A site for my handmade cards, accompanied by my photos and written meanderings which are occasionally witty, often tongue-in-cheek, and rarely profound. Beginning in June 2013, you'll also see lots of NBUS, which is an acronym I coined for Never-Before-Used-Schtuff. NBUS Challenge #6 ~ Day Five!

Greetings!

Can you believe we are halfway through NBUS #6 already? Yup, flies time when you're having fun! If you want to link up, the tool is below. (Using the Page Down key will save some wear and tear on mouse wheels and fingers.) There are a few rules, so make sure you check those out to be in the drawing. Thank you so much to everyone participlaying!

It's the weak end, so do you have crafty plans? We are in for a rainy weekend, which we all love cuz we need more of it. So far this year, the El Nino weather forecast has been El Stinko.

But it's not about Spanish today, it's about Irish. Today I'm presenting three St. Patty's Day cards. We celebrate here because the Mister is half Irish from his dearly departed mother, Genevieve. Even though it's not until the 17th, my mouth is already watering just thinking about corned beef and cabbage with carrots and potatoes and Irish soda bread, all washed down by a lovely dark Guinness for the Mister, a wee dram of Jameson's finest for me, and some Red Lemonade for my furry sidekicks.

Do you need to go get a snack and a beverage now? Go ahead, I'll wait ...

Okay, up first:
I've used white glossy card stock and snippets of stripey green. The NBUS is the awesome Layered Banner die by Papertrey Ink, as is the "Celebrate" sediment from the matching stamp set heat-embossed in platinum. The shamrock and greeting are ancient, from Stampin' Up. IRL, the greens match better than they appear on film. No Academy Award then for this card for cinematopography.

Challenges
  • Curtain Call: Anything goes, with optional Key Lime photo inspiration.
  • The Card Concept where my friend Ardyth is the Guest Designer: Shamrocks, patterns and greens. And, gah, I need those cookies! My card style is CAS - clean and simple.
Up second:
A lovely Irish blessing that sees ink every year. Nothing NBUS here, but the laws of Generational Ireland require the annual making of a card using this blessing. The background is smooched and the ancient greeting is from Personal Stamp Exchange.

Up third, with two men on and nobody out, we have another annual crowd favorite, which, you know, knowing me, I have to make:

I'm sorry. Any monitor cleaning bills can be forwarded to the main office.

It will come as no surprise that this greeting is from River City Rubber Works. The fancy ankle-breakers are from All Night Media.

Challenges
~~~
Enjoy your day! Enjoy the NBUS #6 Challenge! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!
Three great cards Darnell. I've never seen that banner before. It's fantastic. The Irish prayer is a real old favourite and the last - well it's great. The 'black stuff' is my favourite tipple. Have a lovely day. Barbxx
Lovely cards Darnell.
Hope you have a nice day. Sue
These cards are such fun, but I especially like the Irish saying with the turned ankles! Those little high-heeled shoes are enough to make the ankles turn without having a hateful heart! LOL
Loving the cards, the last sentiment indeed left me needing to wipe the iPad! Thank you for your very kind words on my blog. Just wondering if you've tried chocolate Guinness cake? Google Nigella Lawson chocolate Guinness cake, it's divine. A friend of mine insists I've got to make her one for her wedding cake when if she gets married! There's no calories in it, honest. Have a great day, Cara x
Hi Darnell,
oh these cards re so super and very lovely.
Great St Pats designs, and wonderful use of super crafty items.
I have a Grandson who has a Birthday on St pats day, and my Grandparents came from Ireland, and I don't make these type of cards, but I must have a go this year.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Why is it that everytime I visit here, I find another item that "I-HAVE-TO-HAVE". The Hubby had his DNA analyzed because his sister is a genealogist and insisted. It came back that he's 95% if Irish descent. (Apparently, that high a percentage is very unusual.) I feel fortunate that the entire house hasn't been changed to green. Being mostly Irish is his excuse for everything. Anyway, I need the Irish Blessing (because it's a favorite of mine) and the one by River City (I fell off my chair laughing when I saw it).
That being said, I feel that you've created some winners in this very green post.
Joyce said...
Love all the beautiful green on this post, Darnell. I am hoping we get some rain down here, too. We are in need of more rain to cause more green.
Hi Darnell!! I finally got a chance to link up - thanks so much for sponsoring this challenge! I always look forward to it. Love your St. Pat's cards - the sentiment banner on the first one is amazing, and being Irish myself, the quote on the second one always has a special place in my heart. Congrats on being featured on Leslie's It's the Little Things blog!!!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend...
Jill<<<< ----- who has a headache, and I think it's because it's after lunch and I just realized that I didn't drink a cup of caffeine yet! I'm now logging off to get a cup of coffee! Maybe I'll have some Irish coffee!
Karenladd said...
Hmmm, is this a bad thing that my favorite card is the last one with that snarky sentiment!? (snicker...) I'm really going to have to try that smoosh technique after seeing these beauties!
SHartl said...
I'm stuck at home with two sick kiddos but my Mom was nice enough to come for the weekend while hubby is away to help out, so I can actually leave a comment for a change! These pretty patterned cards are just about my speed and they look awesome. I need to make a batch of these to have on hand when I don't have time for a lot of fancy cutting and coloring. Thanks for the great idea and for the new prize. I've never even seen Brushos so would love to win a set!
What fun St. Patty day cards Auntie! I am so loving the last one, that sentiment just cracks me up. Love the banner on the first on and the CAS design of it. The second card is just beautiful, love the sentiment, the smooshing and colors. Wow, look at all the beautiful entries in your NBUS challenge! I'm in awe, but not really because the NBUS sentiment has made it's way around blogland and everyone wants to play along since we are all in the same boat. I think I could play ever day for a year with all my NBUS. lol I need to try harder in using it. Thanks for all your hard work on these challenges, you have really started something here! Hugs, Brenda
