WOYWW 158

Welcome to Wednesday!

Which here in California is actually Tuesday night.  I love visiting the other desks that link up to fab host Julia Dunnit's What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday blog.  (You should join us!)  There are so many of us, however, that I've given up trying to wait until Wednesday morning or, heaven forbid, Wednesday afternoon, to make my post and still pop around and see folks.  I hope it's all right that as soon as Julia pops into my blog roll here on Tuesday night, I'm going to try and post right back so I can start snooping.

Here's what's on my workdesk:

It's four copies of a photo book I put together for me and the sisters of our Eleventh Annual Sister Reunion!  I had it "published" by Snapfish, an internet photo site.  They do a very nice job and when you time it right and get a 40% off coupon, the price is extremely reasonable!

We are in the process of scanning several years' worth of slides into the computer.  I should say Mister is doing that.  Slowly.  In fact, he has ground to a halt now I think of it.  When he's done that, then I'll scan all the photos from the other years, all 40 of them.  And, then, if I'm not dead from advanced age, and as coupons allow, I hope to compose them into theme photo books.  All of our photo albums are disaggregating, so it will be nice to have the photos in the computer and in hardbound photo books before they are complete dust in the back of the closet.

Are you scrappers horrified by this?  I've only done a couple three scrapbooks in my life and I know what a tremendous amount of work is involved and how beautiful and treasured they are when they are completed.  The only downside is how much room they take up on a shelf.  And then there are some of you, no doubt, who are completely green and digital with your photos, albums, and scrapbooks, but I'm not there yet.

Oh, fuzzy milkshakes and alligator paws, I forgot I was at WOYWW where I'm supposed to zip it and be brief!

Bye!  As always, thank you for stopping by to visit.   Special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower or leave a comment!

  1. Great post Darnell, what a big task you've taken on. Apart from a few treasured (well they're all treasured but) photos that I have displayed in my craftroom like those of my parents, children and dogs all the rest are comfortably in my computer.

Lovely view of your garden from your desk.
    Cheers, Elaine.

I'm just getting around to posting my week's offering on WOYWW 158 now.

  2. Good morning (here anyway) Darnell, I think there is room in the world for your type of scrapbooking and also crafty scrapbooking, whatever floats your boat, I say! Your desk certainly looks very tidy! No Mr Linky and it is 6:00 am here. Have a Happy WOYWW, Anne x

  4. Happy WOYWW. I actually forgot what your post was about inbetween reading it and clicking on Add a Comment!! Oh yes, photo books. My sister had one made for my mum last Xmas, and it was brilliant. Definitely want to get one made with piccies of pets that are no longer with us - but may try to do it myself with my Serif software. Wish me luck! Ali x #84

  6. I think those books are great - haven't tried one yet because it will involve my scanning a lot of old photos - such a big job! I'm sure your sisters will appreciate having those keepsakes.

  7. Love the books for you and your sisters. I think it's a great way to put all those pictures together. That way people will look through them because they will actually be done and in a book! Those Snapfish books come out looking very professional.

  8. "Fuzzy milkshakes and alligator paws"? Eh?

These photo books are lovely. I've been tempted by them in the past but I am trying to do my very first scrapbook. I have done all of two pages in it. The shame. It's rather fun though!

  9. Hi Darnell,

My WOYWW post is up now -- thanks for your comment on my Things of the Past post though! ;-)

I've seen several of the snapfish books and they are great! I don't think the scrapbooker's would be too put out by them. After all, it's digital scrapbooking, right.

Oh, and how great to have a sister's reunion! It was only me and my brother - but the thought of sisters getting together just warms my heart.

    Happy WOYWW

  11. Nothing wrong with going digital and you're right about the amount of space it saves too. Loved your earlier post on the nesting kites, how amazing to be able to see them. My feet are a little better today but I'm wearing softer shoes, not ones made of leather! I intend to rest at the weekend when we go camping, should be fun.

  15. Hi, Darnell, happy WOYWW. Nice job on the photo books. I've done a couple of them for gifts through Snapfish and they do a nice job. I love your "fuzzy milkshakes and alligator paws" comment. I use a lot of odd phrases like that to keep from teaching my daughter swear words any earlier than she has to hear them. ~ Laura #109 (Thanks for already popping over to visit!)

  16. Hello Darnell!! I am so pleased you came to see me today as it prompted me to return the favour. I foolishly clicked onthe picture of your playhoue and now I am green with envy!! What a wonderful space, and looking out onto a gorgeous garden as well, my next favourite place to my craft space. (Well I like them equally really, my favourite changes with the weather!!). Coincidentally, I have been redecorating and moved a load of oold photo albums (not scrapbooks just as you say 40 years worth of photos) and they are all falling apart. So I think I have this marathon task to start as well, although I am not looking forward to it. I also thought I would get some of these books done, with special offers they do work out quite reasonable. But it might have to wait till I retire!!

  17. Alligator paws?!?!! I'm not into scrapbooks at all one way or the other. I kind of like your hardbound book for a special occasion and it isn't at all creepy like the first one of these specialty books I ever saw. A guy from work and his fiancee hired a photographer and he followed them around and took pictures of them kissing at different landmarks at the local university all on the same day, then he wanted all of us to see his book. WEIRD. It would be fun to put one together of family for a reunion. I see the potential of these books now beyond the 400 kisses or someone you barely know!

  18. Hi Darnell I think however you preserve you memories is great - its the preservation that counts. I have old video tapes VHS style and I really must get them digitalised before there is no way of playing them. I also have an old and treasured tape of my eldest son chatting as a toddler. Finding time is the problem you are so right. WOYWW Hugs from Helen 14 PS thanks for popping in to visit me. Is it Thursday there now I wonder?

  21. If this is what you want from your photos then it is what you will have. Dont worry about the scrapbookers out there, you do what you are comfortable with. A huge task, you will get there. Hopefully with the discount.

    Have a great crafting week

  22. I've always meant to use Snapfish to make these books and then forget about it, lol! GREAT idea for Christmas presents though. With all our European travels, this would be great too. I made one scrapbook once....ONCE! And never again!!! Too much work for me!

LOVE your little playhouse - so fabulous!!!!

  24. What a fun reason to create a photo book!

  25. I've done a photobook, and also a photocollage before, as well as being a traditional scrapbooker.

I love having something to pick up and hold, and can't see myself ever being completely digital. After all, a book - either a photobook or a scrapbook - doesn't crash and doesn't get a virus, and is instant to load whilst not requiring any electric. See, digital isn't completely green....

Still in awe of your crafting space! Thanks for stopping by.

  28. I think the photo books are a really fab compromise for those of us that need to keep photos accessible and in archive quality...your sisters will be delighted! I've been through the Playhouse door this evening..my word, your organisation and the finish is beautiful. And it's a bit like the tardis!

  29. I did one of those photo books for my 40th (gasp) birthday, they are fun! Did one for my brother for Christmas as the nasty ex kept all his family pics.

  30. The books seem like a really super idea to me. And scanning the pictures onto the computer is just smart thinking! Like you said, they can disintegrate or get lost to an ex, as Angie said, or like my little brother did you can just lose them! Don't forget fire, floods, and well, um, other stuff. lol
Thanks for stopping by my "clean" workspace. ;)

  31. What a huge projct, Darnell. I started something similar last year but it fell by the wayside with the pressure of other stuff. One day I may complete it.

Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, and I'm glad you like my work desk!

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I've been having problems with Blogger not letting me see my comments - it turns out it was a conflict with the new version of Firefox, but it seems to be sorted now, so I'm back again, desperately trying to catch up before Wednesday and the next WOYWW overtakes me!

    Happy very belated WOYWW,
