MIM91 with PP121 Colors ~ Is That a Pocket?!

And we're back around to Friday ~ Whoosh!

My card today is for a very special man in our lives, our DS Dan, who turns 35 years old tomorrow and will be flying off on a business trip.  That does what wind does, and I'm sorry, Dan.  We will celebrate next week over Thanksgiving!

I had a fun time doing his card and it was quick as minute rice.  First, the challenges.

Over at this week's Make It Monday challenge, hosted by the uberly talented Nichole Heady, we are to make cards with faux pockets. That's the number between trex and fix.  Dawn has made a wonderful video tutorial on Nichole's site.

And over at this week's The Paper Players challenge, colors were beautifully chosen for this season of the year by the also uberly talented Anne Marie Hile:

And I made this.

The leaves die and stamp set were new to me this year and this is the second time I've used them.  I love them.  I thought it would be fun to make a dress shirt with a boot and ear made out of embossed leaves.  (In the photo, the burgandy color looks orangey, but IRL, it snot.) Both of these wonderful challenges lined up for me to make DS a unique and interesting card for his fall birthday.

~~~
We were supposed to meet him 35 years ago on November 1st, but he was having none of it.  We had unseasonably summer-like temperatures that November.  Dan hung out in his warm, dark womb for 17 more days while I beached like a whale on a chaise lounge in the backyard, eating cluster after cluster of grapes from the scrawny single vine crawling along the fenceline.  The poor kid was probably drunk in there on the grapes.  I know for sure I wished I could be.  I didn't have my card-making hobby back then to fill the boring long days of that tenth month.
And then, he was sunny-side up!  (Oh, wait.  Was that prolly my fault what with the sitting in the sun and eating grapes?)  We tried for 21 hours, he and I, every way from Sunday, to meet each other.  It was a slog and a half.  Finally, just when the doctor started coming at him with forceps, the little booger flipped face down and slid out.
Of course, everyone jumped back a foot when he fell straight to the floor.  I'm kidding.  You should see the look on your face!!
~~~

Enjoy your day!   No, seriously, enjoy your day.

As always, thank you for stopping by to visit.  Special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower or leave a comment!

A super 'manly' card for your DS and a great birth day story. Was he a big bubba? My two kiddies both pickled for an extra two weeks and they were pretty humongous when they finally made an entrance! xx

Cute card and funny story! I had a late pregnancy and a long labor, too, I think Nate liked it in there where it was dark and warm and quiet. When we finally got to the hospital we got put in our room and I heard a woman screaming her head off, and I picked up my suitcase and said to my husband- forget it, I've changed my mind. I'm not doing this! 36 hrs later, we had our boy. Have a great Thanksgiving! Barb

I truly get the beached whale reference. My first were twins weighing in at 6.5 and 7 pounds. The third was 10 lbs 2 oz. Love the pocket card. I saw others somewhere and was intrigued.
