Ello Everyone, it's Thankful Thursday!
I enjoy taking a quick second on Thursdays to be thankful for some of the little things that we take for granite. Today I'm thankful for pot holders.
I worked yesterday, so I am D. Lin Quent on my online card class funwork for Day 7. Just skipped over it, like a da hoppa scotch, but I will go back. Today I used the technique from Day 8, which was yesterday, and I may be back later with funwork from Day 9 (today) to ketchup. Whatever, sorry. So on Day 8, we learned how to make our own inkpads. This isn't new, a lot of you have probably done it. I have heard of it, but today was the first time I actually did it. It works!
The terrific Jennifer Mcquire was our teacher. I didn't have any felt pads, so (per Jennifer) I used three baby wipes folded over, added ink drops from my SU! reinkers, and walla, an inkpad:
So that's the homework part from class. For my card inspiration, I wanted to play in this week's MUSE challenge #3, where our Muse is the outstanding card artist, Laurie
Willison. Here is her gorgilicious card:
I love Laurie's layout and CASEd the two-panel front, with the connecting band across them, popped by the layered square panel. For my colors, I played with this week's always fun colors at ColourQ. I hope you get a chance to play along!
Isn't that headband sensational?!
You might be surprised to see that I didn't use those amazing Valentiney colors for another Valentine. Nope I did this:
So, there you have it. My card ended up looking pretty distressed. Also, it's distressing how difficult it is to photograph distressed cards.
I'll be honest, I don't really like the distressed look (so sorry, Mr. Tim), because, well, it distresses me to think the little card is in that state of anguish. So sad. But my baby wipe DIY inkpad coverage presented this way, so I went with the low flow. Next time I make my own inkpad, I will add more drops of ink. (It's not so splotchy bleh IRL.)
I'm so delighted to have Ria of Ria Gall, joining us and sharing her talent! Please visit her and make her feel welcome on our little adventure! Thank you, Ria!

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy your

Did somebody say Scotch? .... make mine a double!!! How do the babywipes relate to the Scotch - do they clear up the drips????? Seriously, I love your off the wall humour Darnell, and your ingenuity with your baby wipes and distressed card - faberoony.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursty (that'll be the Scotch!)
Kathyk
My first try with the babywipes ended up in the trash! I really like these colors used this way. Great take on the MUSE card too.
ReplyDeleteLove the gradient hexagon background! I'm often "distressed" when trying to take pics of my cards that really do the justice. Great work!
ReplyDeleteI love your distressed colors especially with the graphic feel of your card. Great take on the LO design. Darnell, I took a look around the playhouse, what a wonderful space to play. I would love to be there on an early summer day with those windows open and the breeze softly blowing in...looking out at your beautiful garden. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great technique..I'm going to have to give this a try. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of CASEing Laurie's card, and I like that you made your own inkpad from baby wipes! The distressing is quite a different look for you, and I likey :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome card!! I love the colours you chose for your ink pad 😄
ReplyDeleteSo so COOL!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome triple threat Darnell. You are so brave to make the inkpad, you may have made it seems a bit doable for me. Your Muse card is gorgeous, fun and flirty.
ReplyDeleteWell, how interesting this was! So neat that you learned how to make your own ink pads! I have been stamping for years, and I've never done that. I love your card! I think the blended colors look super! I'm not a fan of distressing either, but I think yours works beautifully!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a blast!! I love how the sentiment turned out!
ReplyDeleteThanks too, for playing with us at Muse!
Not so distressing that you hopped on the scotch I hope!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely on my list of things to try! (The colour pad not the scotch hopping so much LOL!)
What a fun design made with your own little inky pads!
ReplyDeleteYup, it's the pretty end of distressing Darnell and a lovely result.
ReplyDeleteI gave lots of my distressed style stuff away when I realised it was waaaaay too stressful, so we're of the same mind!
Hugs, Di xx
Fabulous card Darnell, loving the look of that technique
ReplyDeleteDarnell the distress ink technique turned out wonderfully! Such a fun card and the way you used Laurie's layout looks fantastic!!! Great job combining challenges!
ReplyDeleteLike you I am not really a fan of the distressed look but I love how soft and pretty this one turned out Darnell. I am always in awe of how many cards you are able to make in a week and still hold down a job!!! Your Valentine cards look amazing.
ReplyDeleteI like the distressed look and the colours are gorgeous! xx
ReplyDeleteLOVE the background, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou keep on learning and growing. Pretty card.
ReplyDeleteI'll just say super-dee-dooper! And I was blown away by your baby wipes ink! Cool. Gotta try that! Bev
ReplyDeleteFun card! Love your take on the inspiration card and your new baby wipe technique! TFS!!
ReplyDeleteFor a distressed card it sure looks pretty happy. I am not that into distressed cards myself,( although some of my cards might look like they are) only because I am not very good at it . This is very bright and pretty Darnell.
ReplyDeleteAwesome how you tried something new, I hadn't heard of that technique before. You could sure make a ton of different color combinations. Love how you combined the challenge colors! Great result!
ReplyDeleteFunky, artsy and cool! (picture me flashing a Peace sign). Another A+ on your homework. This mixed marriage of distressed and clean & simple really works on your card. The colors and the embellishments keep it fresh and fun. Love it!
ReplyDeleteVery cool results Darnell!
ReplyDeleteI think this card is wonderful and I love the distressed look. I also enjoyed reading how you made your card. It was funny! I've felt the same way about distressed cards from time to time.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm a distressed kinda gal....so I lurves (as Hels would say) your distressing card! And since I giggle so much reading your posts I have to run to u know where I'm gonna follow ya! Keep the t.p. handy. :D
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell. Your card looks bright and happy to me. Not distressed at all!!! Hee Hee. x
ReplyDeleteTHis is such a funky card - I am also doing the online card class and have just loved it! I am really enjoying Muse too - your cards have been great. I loved your spirograph card so much that I went out and bought the newer version of spirograph to play with!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun technique! I love that background! You are sweet! Hugs to you girl! Thanks for playing at Muse this week!
ReplyDeleteFabulous card, this technique is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteGreat card love the way you made your own inkpad and the little brads are just awesome.. Was a fun design to work with, and your card is fun.
ReplyDeleteSandy :)
