aMUSEing Ardyth; ColourQ #182 ~ Reminders re Ugliest and Fusionest!

I think I missed a whoosh in there and that will never do!!  Whoosh it's Saturday!

As the craft wheel turns ~

I made a card for week number 10 of the fantastic MUSE challenge, just in the nick of time.  I think I've only missed one while I was out of town and since this week the MUSE is a very good friend of mine, I had to play along!  Our MUSE is one of the Queens of the Clean and Simple (CAS) card:  Ardyth of MASKerade.  Here is Ardyth's inspirational card:

It is, of course, the epitome of a bright and brilliant "Ardyth card."  How wonderful to be reowned like that!  Wait.  What?  Not reowned, definitely renowned!

MUSE is the brainchild of the uber talented designer, Jackie Rockwell, the Design Team ladies are awesome card artists, and you folks enter stunning cards!  This week was no exception and as time was running out, my head was spinning.

I saw this really fun idea over at Pinterest all about making circles with the ends of paper towel or t.p. tubes.  Then I realized I didn't have any empties ~ when you don't want one, they're all empty!

So I wondered, as I was fixing dinner last night, what could I use instead that would be fun and different?  How about one of the potatoes I was about to peel?  Do you member doing that in Arts and Crafts?  Or was that only at my Camp for Wayward Children?  And what kinda word is "wayward," anyway?  Nevermind.  Not now.  Move along.

Very well, then, potato stamping, but what inks shall I use?  Well, why not the excellent colors on the inspiration board over at ColourQ #182?  Why not indeed.  Here they are:

So I took my potato and I inked and stamped, like so:

(Parenpathetically, I have to confess that was a little bit hard for me to do because I'm sorta known in the family as Mrs. Potato Head because there are few no foods I like better than potatoes.  I grim aced and stamped with it, but don't think right afterwards I didn't cut off the inked part and eat the rest!)

~~~
After trimming my Designer Potato-Patterned Paper, I put together this card:
I hope you like it, Ardyth!  It was a fun card to make!
~~~

  16. You sacrificed a potato (at least part of one) for little ol' me?! I'm honoured! And I love what you did with this - great colour combination and I love the brads (I think I may still have some of those around somewhere!) I'm so glad you played along!

  17. Who needs stamps anymore. You are going to put PTI and SU out of business. There will be a run on potatoes when the world gets a look at your potato card. It's just brilliant, pretty, and probably delicious, too.

  23. Amazing card Darnell, you are so crafty and very creative. I love what you did with that potato, have you tried celery too? I used that for my class at school to make Valentine's Day card, cut the bottom off about 4 inches up and dip it in red paper and you have a beautiful flower, so if you have celery laying around give it a try. I have no problem using celery since I don't like it. Are you just so excited for this new challenge and the ugly card post too, so much fun to be had here is blogland.

  24. Great card! Love the texture from your potato stamps! If I recall correctly, you can also crave designs into them to make your own pattern stamps as well!

  25. I once did a painting technique on a wooden frame using a potato and some glaze. That frame is not nearly as colorful as this, but I love it just the same! Thanks for joining us at colourQ with your very unique card!

  28. Ah yes, potato art from the 3rd grade....but nothing as lovely as this came from my childhood potato smashing! Your posts are always entertaining, Darnell! Thanks for the memories and a chuckle or two or three! Happy Easter to you and family.

  33. It need someone with a certain type of imagination to think of using a potato Dippy.....how uber-inventive was that! lol it's turned out amazing and the colours are gorgeous. I used to have a set called the potato head family where you stuck elements onto potatoes to turn thrm into Mr Potato Head, his wife and two children - kept me aMUSEd for hours........

    Happy Easter to you and your wonderful family.

    Hugs.

  34. A humble potato was sacrificed for the greater good - a great card, in fact. Really nice work and so original. Well done, Darnell.

  36. Darnell, I read almost the entire post out loud to my husband. He thinks you & I should be committed to the loony bin (with plenty of potatoes and wayward children). Doesn't that sound nice? :)
    This is just too fun - I too would have to eat the rest of the potato. I'd have ink marks around my mouth.

  37. Wow, aren't you clever! Who would ever think your gorgeous card started with a potato!! Very cool!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Your potato stamping is AWESOME, Darnell! I love this - one of my faves of yours ever.

  40. ACK!!! Darnell! I so love your potatoes!! Don't worry, I don't want your specific potatoes, just really am in love with the work your potatoes did. So very abstract and, well, interesting! Thanks for the shout-out on Jackie and Leslie's Fusion challenge on Friday too ... I'll be looking for you there : )
