Punkins, for reals and on paper ~ CASology #66; ColourQ #211; NBUS #62; STB; and Moxie Color

Hi Dear Friends,

Once again, here we are whooshed around to Friday!  This week we entered the midpoint in October, a month of ghosts and goblins, witches and warlocks, cauldrons and candies corn, and the always iconic PUMPKIN.

I have some punkins to share with you today.

My first card was made for the current challenge at CASology where the cue card word is, wait for it ... pumpkin!
And I used the really pretty fall colors from the current challenge at ColourQ.  Isn't that table of feet a hoof?!
Here is my card:
The punkin image is by Hero Arts (A166) and the sediment is by California Rubber Stamp (C1409).  The bling is by My Mind's Eye.

I made the background behind the pumpkin by scribbling markers onto one of my acrylic blocks, spritzing it with a water mist, and then turning it over onto a piece of glossy cardstock.  It's a NBUS technique for me.
I have "smacked" acetate before, whereby you scribble markers on a piece of acrylic and then lay a piece of card over the scribbles.  When the card is lifted, you have a beautiful background.  Another similar technique is to scribble right onto your craft mat; I haven't tried that one yet.

ETA:  This fun way of applying color to your card seems also fitting for the Moxie Fab World Color Media Challenge, so I'm linking there as well!

~~~
My second punkin card is a QACAS card that I made just for fun.  But then, after I made it, I realized that it was perfect for the current challenge at Seize the Birthday where it's always "Anything Goes" and this time the special "toppings" feature is to use fall colors.
To use the colors of FALL on your project!
I have several sheets of beautiful patterned paper designed by Tim Coffey for K & Company and I've made a few cards just to showcase the paper.  Today I'm featuring the pumpkin paper:
The card and ribbon are SU! pumpkin pie.  I think the sediment is a Hero Arts, but it's unmarked, and the backing green mat is SU! wild wasabi.
~~~

Finally, I have a couple of for reals punkins to share with you.  We have the immense pleasure of having the grandtwins for a THREE-night sleepover!!  Squee!!

I got a great picture of them:
Pretty cute, right?  Look how big they're getting!  This is what I had to go through to get the above picture:
Ya gotta love digital cameras!  Remember taking your film in (or sending it in) to get prints made, praying that out of 36 photos, you might get one that was good?!  And you still had to pay for the other 35 that didn't turn out well?!  Ah, me, one of the many instances where the "good ol' days" weren't.

~~~
Enjoy making your day a good ol' one!  No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS*
 As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment and/or join as a follower!
Oh my goodness, that pumpkin paper is *stunning*!!! And it certainly makes for a gorgeous card.
And yes, I remember very well paying for the development of film only to have maybe two or three pictures worth keeping! Pretty much all my money was spent on photos as a teen, and I have very little left to show for it.
Having said that though, the actual quality of the photos is still better than even ones taken my by professional photographer friends with their top-of-the-range cameras. Can't beat film for that! x
Hi Darnell, I love how you created the background for your pumpkin, will definitely give that a go. That pumpkin paper is absolutely gorgeous and what a beautiful card you have created.
Great pic of the twins, all the other photos are excellent too, they obviously have great fun together - and how lucky are you having a 3 night sleep-over!
I do remember rolls of film and also how expensive it was to have them developed - only to find that some of the photos were appalling - there is a lot to be said for digital (thank goodness!). Have lots of fun with the twins. Big hugs, Annie xx
Wonderful cards Darnell. I love how you have made the coloured background for your first card, thank you for explaining so clearly how this was done, that is a NBUS technique for me too.
Your photos are fabulous, thank goodness for digital cameras! I hope you have a great weekend with your Grandsons.
hugs Sue xx
You do have the cutest little punkins! I love seeing that it takes you as many shots to get a good one as it does at our house! Love your background for your outline pumpkin - it's a cool way to use the colours in the Colour Q. Thanks for joining us at CASology!
As always I started out laughing at your twins pixs when I read your posts! The twins remind me of my sons cutting up when they were that age. Digital is wonderful and boys are exuberant. I haven't tried smacking acetate since that first try when I failed miserably. I will try again. Also I never made a card with dsp as a background. Yours is terrific. Why have I never thought of that. Can't wait to go through all that paper that is just waiting for me to be creative just like you. Great cards.
Love the cards, Darnell! I may need to try out that neat technique with the acrylic block. Love the pictures of the twins. Too funny! Boys are always so silly. :-). Thanks for your recent kind comments on my blog. You're such a sweetie! Hugs!
I would frame the series of photos of the boys - it would make a fantastic collage/photo wall!!! Great cards - really love that pumpkin paper.
Both are stunning Darnell and I love that pumpkin paper!
I have pretty sheets like that. I don't want to cover them up - the paper is beautiful and should be the star. I always feel like I've been a bit naughty when I do it though, lol! Fab photo's of the grands, have a fabulous time and a fabulous weekend xx
My two are 27 and 30 but I've still not managed to get a photo of them without either or both of them pulling faces, so you did well there! Love the cards, especially the inking technique.
Love your technique, Darnell...and the pumpkin is so cute on top...and those two real live "punkins" are adorable...they probably wouldn't like to read that I said adorable..huh? how about handsome? Happy Friday to you!
Dippy - you smack ass when you smack that acetate girl! Fab effect and the K&Co paper is fantabulous. Just loved the photo of the grandtwins..........but loved the other 9 so much more!!! Can only agree about the roll of film when you hoped something had come out of all those pictures that you took on expensive holiday! Now it's such an everyday thing to take photos and upload them onto your computer/tablet etc. Just think if you had to wait a week or more to see if these amazing photos had developed okay - progress is sometimes a very good thing!
Hugs.
Great cards there Mrs Punkin! Love those shots of the boys. Keep those funny befores photos - my Mum and Dad binned most of the ones of me and my sister up to similar tricks and now regret it!!
Adorable pumpkins....all of the them! Those twinks are just the cutest little critters around! Fabulous pictures...especially the ones where they aren't sitting quite so nicely! Ah...boys!
Awesome technique! Perfect colors and such a cool result! Fabulous sentiment - so 'Halloweenie'.
The DP is stunning! Love the simple tag and ribbon.
Oh, how I remember the old 'film' days! Send the roll away, wait forever to have it returned, spend hard earned money on developing, only to find 2 out of 12 pictures worth keeping!
If the boys find out you're sharing their antics with the world, they may behave next time. hahahahahaha
I love that you're trying new techniques. This one turned out great.
Bonnie said...
Love that smacked acetate background! I tried that technique on a craft mat and it didn't turn out nearly this well. Then I didn't get all the ink off the mat and ruined another piece of card stock meant for something else. I think I'll stick to the acetate. That's some beautiful DP on the second card! Makes for a really QACAS yet beautiful card! And who could possibly be cuter than your real punkins (except Luke & Jack who are running even with your two). Enjoy your time together!
That cheerful pumpkin of the first card makes me very happy. Love how you did the background. Have to try that. Great paper on the second card! I should do that with some of my PP and make at least a small dent in it.
Those boys are adorable and yes, I also appreciate that with digital photography you can just shoot away without having to pay a fortune!
Love the punkins! Oh, and your cards too! hahaha. Film. I wish I had a nickle for every bad photo...I have enough to put at least one of my grandkids through college! Great cards, and thanks for sharing your technique. Have a great weekend. I'm off to Scrap and Stamp tomorrow... All day long...Bev
Sweet cards Darnell, you first card with that pumpkin is so fun...and your grandson's are too cute too.
Darnell, this card rocks!! I love that pink is the prevailing colour and that inky spritzy technique is so cool! Really really awesome. Thanks for playing along with CASology this week!
And the grandtwins are hilarious (not to mention total cutie pies - future heartbreakers I imagine...)
Kelly Griglione said...
Awesome job on your NBUT, right?! That background is so interesting!
Your collage of the twinks is soooo funny ... I often like those photos better than the "pretty" ones. Although it's usually only in hindsight. At the time I want to wring their little necks : )
And the only think worse than getting 23 bad photos from a roll of 24 is regretting that you checked the doubles box on the order form. Ugh.
It's me again, I meant to thank you for linking up to Seize the Birthday! We always enjoy seeing your cards here!
Oh yes, we frequently say how great it is to have lived long enough to see digital cameras! I often paid for lots of bad pictures! How neat your grandsons love to be at your place--2 darling kids! I really love the background for the pumpkin & need to try the technique again--mine never look this good.
Hi Darnell, Finally getting back over for a most enjoyable visit. Gosh, the twinks are getting so tall. Bet you had a fun sleepover. Loved both your cards, and admire how you used that beautiful splashy paper so well. I never can manage that. Really loved the 1st card with your coral background and your NBUS technique. Another thing I try, but doesn't turn out great for me. You did it smashing! And it was a great image against that sunsky coral. Great cards & great kids too. Hugs & TFS
