Hi there! Here we are again, whooshed around to another Friday in the blink of an eye!
Ah me, I've decided I should make Valentines all year long like I'm doing with Christmas cards. There are just so many cute products and not enough time between Christmas and Valentine's Day to play with them all! Of course, I wouldn't use the Happy Valentine's Day sediments, but love goes with any sediment, right? Who wouldn't want a hearty card any time of the year?
Having said that, however, I'm here with a birthday card for Friday's DJKASE! Sorry for any confuzzlement.
The card artist and follower that I'm copylimenting today is the brilliant Karen Mead of Made by Meadie. Karen is from Tasmania Australia. She has been blogging since August 2011 and her work is consistently fabulous and clean and simple (CAS)! It was very difficult to narrow the choices down to one.

Then, yay, the decision was made easier for me when I saw that Papertrey Ink {capture the moment} has a challenge going on to celebrate their 7th birthday! Happy Birthday, PTI! Thank you for the free color and sketch downloads and the opportunity to win prizes!
I was delighted to see that the layout of one of my favorite Karen M. cards was pretty close to this PTI challenge sketch:
And I was inspired by these PTI challenge colors:
Here is the card made by Karen that I chose to DJKASE. Karen posted this card on her blog on May 11, 2013:

Isn't it adorable?!
Changing Karen's layout a bit to work with the PTI sketch, I made this:

Darnell's card |
Karen's duck, Gerome, and my duck, Gunther, are cousins. Gerome's grandmother and Gunther's grandmother are brothers. Unfortunately, Gunther's family's line is endangered given that he is from a closed stamp company. In addition, the line is very well known by Ornithologists all over the world, not to mention dental hygienists, because if you look closely you will see that Gunther has a full set of teeth. Other ducks peck at seed corn with their beaks, but not Gunther. No. Gunther can eat his corn straight off the cob! Dude!
(Psst, I realize that Gerome is a duck and Gunther is a goose, but Gunther doesn't know he was adopted, and he for sure doesn't know he's a goose, so please don't say anything about that. Also, some people use geese as watch dogs and I know Gunny looks a bit menacing with those eyes and those teeth, but he's really gentle as a duck.)
Thank you, Karen, for all your wonderful support and inspiration! I hope you are pleased!
~~~
I forgot when I was posting this to add that I used all kinda snippets on my ducky goose card, so I'm going to take it over to Pixie's Snippets Playground to show the other girls. Di has ducks there, so Gunther will feel right at home. I think I'll get through the gates in time for my second visit this week.
And because the sediment is definitely over the edge, I'm popping this entry in the "Over the Edge" challenge happening at CAS-ual Fridays.
I noticed something in the PTI challenge instructions that I didn't notice until after I posted my card: we were to use one of the designer's free printable art designs on our card. I linked my card and then I modified it to follow the PTI rules. I printed the superb circular HB design by Lizzie Jones, cut it out, and popped it on my card to link this version.
Where do you find these stamps Darnell, this duck is so funny. Did he come with the hat or did you add it on? Anyway a cracking card by Karen in the first place, and a sensational DJKase by you. x
ReplyDeleteFabulous - LOVE how you CASed this - those googly eyes on the duck - haha!
ReplyDeleteThis card just quacks me up! (sorry, couldn't help that...) Great CASE of Karen's card. I'm sure she's thrilled that you've done this. Love your bold stripes behind Gunther. He's just ducky...(darn it!, I did it again!) even if he was adopted, and I won't say a word! It's always fun to drop by your blog, D. Have a great weekend. Bev
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun :) I like those colorful stripes behind the duck
ReplyDeleteYou've cased a very cute CAS card and you've made yours so pretty and colorful.
ReplyDeleteLove that Gunther has all those teeth....but, very strange. Ha
Them there duckies/geese are very cute! You did a wonderful job CASE'ing that card.
ReplyDeleteNow then Miss D this CASEing malarky must be catching because you inspired me to CASE one of your wonderful CAS cards. Have a lovely weekend huni xx
I suspect that Gunther might be on some medication due to that inbreeding (although he's adopted) and I suspect that you've "borrowed" some from him. I'm not judging.... not judging! Medication is good for the soul. I'm sure Gandhi said that.
ReplyDeleteYour card is so silly! I love the googlie eyes and teeth?!!! oh my.
Fun card Darnell. Is it me or is he tipsy. Visiting the punch bowl often I see. Smile. BIG smile.
ReplyDeleteThis DJKASE is brilliant, even if he does look a bit.....not sure what but those googly eyes are very penetrating! Thanks for making me smile though, I love the back story too...so funny. I like your last minute change too - clever you! Big hugs, Annie xxx
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun card Darnell, I love Gunther and was delighted to read his little biography! Good job you checked the criteria:) sorry for my lack of comments lately it's been a bit manic here:p
First off, your card is just delightful. But what is even more delightful is your writing and the way that I always leave your blog feeling happy. Love the duck story.
ReplyDeleteTeeth? wot teeth!! I'm too busy looking at those googly eyes that are following me all round the page. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteDUCK!
FORE!.
Hugs Mrs A.
Super fun card and so was the post, Gunther looks to be a tad older than Gerome, great colours.
ReplyDeleteKath x
Is red wine good for keyboards? I only ask as I just took a very delicate sip of it as I read your post, Darnell. I should know better than to have anything in or near my laughing gear when visiting ... I'm sure it'll clean up! Anyway, Karen's Gerome was fabulous ... and wild and fiery Gunther is equally so ... even though he may be a tad more unconventional (which is always good)! I'm still laughing so staying away from the red stuff! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteCute - looks like the AFLAC duck!
ReplyDeleteF.A.B.U.L.O.U.S Miss Dippy. Love your goosey/ducky critter: especially with those googly eyes! Makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes!
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Duck/Goose - Fabulous card!
ReplyDeleteQuackin' funtackulous...silly goose. So colorful and silly.
ReplyDeleteso very cute both of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, I read your story and the tears ran down my face. You make my day! Gunther looks great, adopted or not!!
ReplyDeleteKarin x
Darnell, love your card and Karen's - your post had me cackling with laughter...I too want to make VDay cards all year round..so essentially I do, by making the Anniversary cards :) Cx
ReplyDeleteOh my! This is so fun!!! I love the google eyes!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, you have me rolling! I love Gunther...teeth, crazy eyes, and all!
ReplyDeleteYou quack me up!!! Awesome card!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell - I absolutely love your gorgeous fun card and I feel so honoured that you picked one of mine to case! It made me laugh to see it again....I think its the ONLY card that I have ever made with vellum on it (vellum and I are not on speaking terms)Thank you for your kind words too - they mean alot to me:) I laughed so hard at your story about our duck and goose cousins....you have made my whole day - hugs xx
ReplyDeleteHow do you do it, Darnell? You always make the whole wide blog world laugh and chuckle and cray happy tears! Gunther is hilarious! Very handsome in front of those colorful stripes! Thanks for his background story! Love this DJKASE idea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun card Darnell and a great CASE of Karen's card. Hilarious story! Cathy x
ReplyDeleteGoosey, goosey, gander. Where shall I wander? Over to Darnell's blog that every one is fond of. That's includes me. lol
ReplyDeleteAbout that change to the printable, unless I'm mistaken, that was a separate challenge. If you left it as it was, you could have entered the challenge at CASual Fridays with it as the sentiment is "over the edge".
OK...you know I'm laughing at your family story & Gunther is really quite a cute guy. Karen P had cased you, left a link so made it an easy trip to drift over this way. Loved Karen's so adorable card, and really loved your CASE of it as well. Haven't seen either of these birds, but they are totally amusing & cute. Now thanks for the story of Gunther, I promise I won't spill any beans, and will love him like a brother if I see him in the Playground. When I get a chance to visit again. Don't you just love the keys button. Makes it easier to sneak in, I hope! TFS a delightful card & cute story & oh, all of it! Have a great wkend, & hugs. (You're getting famous, you know that? :-})Kin I have your autygraf?
ReplyDeleteGunther looks like a seriously crazed party animal!! Fun story about his background Darnell and a FUN card!
ReplyDeleteI'm not partial to geese because when I was about 7, a goose chased me and bit me on the bum! However, Gunther doesn't look like the bum-biting goose, despite all those teeth so I'm going to say he's adorable - as is your card.
ReplyDeleteYou ROCK, Darnell!! Love your little duck and sweet stories and the wonderful, positive spirit here on your blog. Thank you, thank you for being my "new friend"--I look forward to getting to know you! :) ~Rebecca
ReplyDeleteYou are too FUNNY, Darnell! Thanks so much for an explanation about these 2 boys...WOW!
ReplyDeleteYour card is over the top adorable! I love your color choices, too...so fun!
Oh, and thank you so much for the heads up on the CFS challenge...and of course for your sweet comments on my blog ~ Hugs back atcha!!!
So cheerful and fun! A real party card:)
ReplyDeleteHilarious Darnell! Looks like a reall 'party animal'.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say though - it looks like there's been some inbreeding with a very unfortunate result. I blame you if we end up with strange looking ducks in the Playground!!
Hugs
Di
xx
I am loving the googly eyed duck/goose!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Hugs, Sarn xxx
Fun card, Darnell, and a great case!
Fabulous case of Karen's card, Darnell! Gunther looks like he's in full party mode!
ReplyDeleteThis duck looks like he's been partying big time! LOL! I'll let him keep thinking he's a goose!
ReplyDeleteOh!! What a fun image, he is one happy fella!. So much fun Darnell.
ReplyDeleteDuck...goose...your card is great fun!
ReplyDeletei don't know whats funnier poor old gobbedly goose Gunther or your post. He really is a rather odd looking creature with those crazy eyes and teeth no wonder the stamp company has closed…..although i do love him he made me giggle. You are such a riot Darnell you really must write a book and of course illustrate it.
ReplyDeleteMarie
this made me giggle, the wobble eyes are such fun and I agree Karen is a great inspiration x
ReplyDeleteFun & silly!! You are a silly goose in fact, but I wouldn't want it any other way!! ;))
