I thought I would go into the origin of the celebration of April Fool's Day, so I checked Wikipedia and I immediately found this line:
Precursors of April Fool's Day include the Roman festival of Hilaria ...
Now you will find a TON of information on Wiki about how the tradition of celebrating April Fool's Day started and how it is practiced in various parts of the world, but I think the best information of all is in that opening line. In fact, I wish that we celebrated The Festival of Hilaria instead of April Fool's Day!! Wouldn't that be hilaria?! I think so. (And I didn't even make that up!!)
Another tibbit of information given is that in some places it started out being called April Fish Day. In places where that is celebrated, a rascallion makes a paper fish and then successfully attaches it to the back of someone who then becomes the "fool." Sort of nicer than attaching a "kick me" sign to someone's back. Not that I would know anything about doing something that naughty.

For my card on this foolish day, I chose to make a bunny rather than a fish. I was inspired by the current Lucky Dip challenge at Less Is More, where the theme is "Round and Round." Thank you, ladies, for another fun challenge!

And here's my card:
I used my circle punches to create the round bunny body out of a store-bought note card covered in pretty springtime words. I used my heart punch to make the ears and feet, rounding half of the heart to make it more bunny ear- and foot-appropopo. The round bunny tail is made from a cotton ball pulled from the top of a medicine bottle. The bunny grass is hand drawn with markers and pencils and a silvery green glitter pen was used to write "Happy Spring" in the lawn.

More paper snippets used in today's card, so I'm off to Pixie's Snippets Playground to share my bunny with the gang there.
As a special nod to April Fool's Day, the newest brief at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is "Lots of Rules." Just kidding! It's "Anything Goes!"
And the current challenge at Simply Create Too is "Easter or Use Bunnies!"
I had a few years of blissfully living in a land I like to call Delirium in between having a young son on the premises and now having young grandsons. Children, with their brutal honesty, have a way of bringing you crashing back to a land called Reality.
Why just recently, Henry was playing in the family room, I was in the kitchen, and Papa and Adam were off doing something. I asked Henry if he would like the Legos which are kept in a plastic box under Adam's bed just inside the door to their room. "Sure," he said. I dried my hands and went to their room, bending over in the doorway to retrieve the box.
I hadn't realized that Henry had gotten up and followed me.
Henry hadn't realized that I was going to abruptly stop in the doorway and suddenly bend over, so he had to come to a screeching halt just inches from my bottom.
Stunned, he blurted, "WHOA! You have a BIG butt!"
I thought about explaining how having a big butt is my genetic body type and that it does't bother me because I can't see it. Or telling him that grandma is all on-trend in this age of Kardashian big butts, but he's too young to know about stuff like that, thank goodness.
And anyways, I'm pretty sure he was just teasing me, you know? I mean, I think he knew he wasn't going to be here today for April Fool's Day, so he fooled me early, right?
{Cough.}
Now where are those walking shoes I bought in the 1900s?

Enjoy your day of hilaria! Enjoy crafting your fishes or your bunnies and slapping them unknowingly onto the backs of innocent people and then yelling, "April Fool" and running away!

In between spring showers on Sunday, the Dukester kept me company as I deadheaded my Azalea bushes. As you can tell from my attire, it must have been all of 67 degrees, which is pretty much freezing cold in California.
You might notice that I have cut off a portion of my backside. The ability to crop photos is up near the top of my Gratitude List. I'm hoping you aren't very good at porportionizing, although, of course, you are, aren't you, being a card artist and all. Well, I'll just ignore that.I had a few years of blissfully living in a land I like to call Delirium in between having a young son on the premises and now having young grandsons. Great take on the challenge! Love the bunny and your choice to make a coloured background for the card! Inky greetings, Gerrina
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute card Darnell, out of the mouths of babes! LOL Don't you love their innocent ability to just say what they see, Not saying that what they see is necessarily accurate! Gonna stop before my foot gets stuck in my mouth!! Cathy x
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, your story really made me laugh and I must remember that little tip of cropping my butt in future photos. Super bunny butt card. Xx
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the LIM challenge! And another witty post to brighten my morning as well!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute card and as always your tales from the playhouse and beyond made me giggle!
ReplyDeleteA day of Hilaria sounds so much fun Darnell, who wants a day about fools? Makes no sense at all! Well done for all your research and I loved the giggle, Thank you :D Your bunny card is not only clever but very sweet, using Spring worded paper a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day, Hugs Gay x
I absolutely adore your gorgeous bunny card, very clever use of the punches. I think it was meant as an April Fool joke on you, are sure he was not talking about the bunny.... Thanks for the giggle though and no - you don't have a big butt at all! Hugs, Annie xxx
ReplyDeleteOh Darnell, you are just too hilaria! ;-). My son has said the same thing to me before. They certainly don't have a filter do they, these young'uns. LOL! Love your cute bunny card and how you made it. Big hugs! :-)
ReplyDeleteI've decided Dippy that you should rename your blog as The Home of Dippypeadia!!!! You are a mine of very usefull(less???) information and I can't wait to learn more every day. Fab bunny card for the LIM challenge. You always get the truth from kids eh??? lol
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Karendipity xxx
Oh Darnell you do make me giggle! I too love the crop ability for exactly the same reason!!! And your bunny card is simply beautiful. Jenny x
ReplyDeleteCute, cute bunny...(I'mm off to get my circle punch...)
ReplyDeleteLove your photos...I can tell that your grandpuppy, Duke...loves you.
We have a grandpuppy too, (we call her our youngest grandchild) She is usually really excited to see us..
but for some reason...last time we visited she was more interested in her new toy than us...LOL!
Great Spring card Darnell! Love the fact you used the Spring paper too and how cleverly you made the bunny :)
ReplyDeleteI did grin about the 'butt assessment' - little scamp!
Hugs

What a Happy Spring card Darnell!!! Super CUTE with the white bunny :) Have a FAB week <3
ReplyDeleteNice card. Interesting thing Hilaria day.
ReplyDeleteStill laughing about your post! Between Hilaria (at first I thought you made that up - it sounded so much like you), porportionizing, and quoting Henry you had me laughing out loud! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh, and very clever to use punches to make that cute bunny!
Happy fish day :) oohh your cards are just gorgeous Darnell I love that Easter bunny although he does look cheeky ;) aww lovely photo of your dog he's beautiful!!!

Grins and giggles. Grins about your sweet bunny card! Love the note card body, and the cottony little tail. Hand lettering??!!! Way to go, my friend. Now. Giggles. As far as butts go... My grandma told us kids that grandmas were SUPPOSED to be chubby. That way they had soft laps and gave soft hugs! Besides, chairs are harder these days...I need the extra padding! Kids sure are funny. Someday, he'll be horrified that he actually said that! And grandma will just laugh. Great card. Bev (a properly chubby grandma!)
ReplyDeleteI love your bunny Darnell, and your clever way of making it. The spring words paper is just right, and you have used such a lovely spring green colour for the background. x
ReplyDeleteSweet bunny, I love his little tail! I really love the photo of you and Dukester tending to the Azeleas! ~hugs
ReplyDeleteA totally cute bunny! and your friend keeping you company is wonderful too! Hard to believe you have Azalea bushes in bloom. Here in NC my daffodils are blooming!
ReplyDeleteEmbrace the booty!!! I mean figuratively not literally as that way leads to lawsuits or paternity suits... can't remember which.
ReplyDeleteCute bunny and I can't help but comment on his fluffy bunny bum!
Happy April Fish Day to you!
Don't kids say the darnest things! Love the inserted fish -- he is cute! :)
ReplyDeleteCute cute bunny card! Well Grandma, he April Hilaria'd you....:):):) hope you chuckled...I am!
ReplyDeleteOh my gawd, I can't stop laughing!! The visual popped into my head immediately as you described it and I'm in stitches! ROFL!!
ReplyDeleteYour card is as cute as a bunny butt with that tiny cottontail - unlike our IRL behinds that have no business being in photos!!! LOL
Such a cute bunny card Darnell, you just make me laugh with your stories. Happy April Fools Day.
ReplyDeleteHugs Diane
sweet pickles that's a fun bunny and an amusing story. Hugs C
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, your bunny card is just so darn cute and very creative, I like the spring words on the paper that you die cut. Oh too funny about your grandson's comments. Maybe it was just because he was close? Kids are can say the funniest things, I recall my granddaughter asking me why I had "grey spots" in my hair as she pointed to my roots. Have a great day, Shirleyxx
ReplyDeleteClever and cute, Darnell ... what a splendid bunny cotton tail! 1st April here we do the fish thing. Did you know that a butt is a fish ... Henry must've been talking about the fish already attached to your back (in elegant French style, of course)when he was so startled by your abrupt stop! Glad that's all explained! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteOMGosh, Darnell...you are such a RIOT! Or, should I say, 'HILARIA'! I lost count how many times you made me laugh during this post...but, you are so great at doing that ~ Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love your bunny card! How clever you are to use circle punches and hearts...not to mention the cotton ball from a med bottle!!! So creative and completely adorable!
Thanks so much for sharing your photo and story with us...I'm sure Henry was 'April Fooling' you in advance...wink, wink!
You have some of the most fabulous out of the box idea's a really true crafter, not following like sheep what everyone else is doing, great respect for that and also for the comedy value of your posts.
ReplyDeleteI also have to say a huge thank you for offering the RD prize to me and I really hope that you don't think that I have thrown the kindness in your face by turning it down, I also forgot to say 'no thank you' to the prize, I really don't enter for the prizes, but I am also on a mission to use up papers that I already have and as I said to Sarn, the stamp was an animal and I just can not colour animals. Thank you so much once again for thinking of me.
Henry, it must be to do with the name, my 5 year old Grandson is called Austin Henry and he told us the other week that by the time he had a girlfriend we would be dead, my eldest Grandson Ethan Henry had such a look of horror on his face and their Dad, John Henry was working away,in Honalulu, so we have three Henry's in the family,
Kath x
Well, let's see....the post is hilaria for sure! Don't you just love those grands when they come up with things like that. My 2 granddaughters and I were shopping the other day and I made the comment (to myself and out loud) that all the clothes were old lady-ish looking. I had to pick them up off the floor they were laughing so hard! Gotta love 'em!
ReplyDeleteNow, on to your card - totally precious! Cute way to make the little bunny too. Love it!
lynn
Love your cute bunny card. Children unfortunately say what they think - I just turn the other cheek!
ReplyDeleteWe were able to enjoy some time in the garden this weekend tidying up and enjoying seeing all the grandchildren playing together.

Thank you for brightening my day!! I had tried to follow you when I first visited you but was unable to see where to do it. Is my only choice signing up for blogloving??
Not sure how to get it done but girl! I AM following you! : )
Patti
I love your hand created bunny! I've spent all afternoon trying to put a stamped bunny on a card and the card isn't anywhere near this cute! And boy can I sympathize with the observations of little boys! Luke tells me I'm fat all the time. I tell him it's protection for my bones!
ReplyDeleteCute card!! I am a new follower and now follow you on bloglovin. I found your blog from MaryH at carolinacardsbymaryh.blogspot.com Would love for you to visit my blog also. http://www.whodatscrapper.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Darnell, I've added you to my bloglist but the link on your blog for blogspot followers is not working... at least not for me but then again...I am fairly certain the dinosaurs were pretty freely roaming the neighborhood when my version of Mozilla Firefox was installed : )
ReplyDeletePatti
You bring so much joy to blogland! Truly, the funniest, sweetest, kindest, person ever! And on top of all that, a sense of humor that makes me laugh out loud every time I visit! You made my day of hilaria a fun one!
ReplyDeleteNow about the card....WINNER! Yep, no bout a'dout it! Clever, creative and so dang cute! You made the wee guy look so hug-able! Awesome grass (as in lawn)!
Whoa!!! What a big bunny!! haha
ReplyDeleteJust kidding! I couldn't resist! Your bunny is precious!!
And once again...you crack me up!!!
Love your creativity with the punches to make your bunny! Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteUsing a store bought card on your handmade card. Is that kosher? It sure turned out cute though.
ReplyDeleteYou gotta love the comments from kids, always so truthful and yet hilarious at the same time! I asked Max this morning 'did he know what a bladder was?'. He didn't and I told him it was 'a bag where the wee waits till you go to the toilet'. He said that his one is quite small and I asked 'how do you know?'....he pulled down his pants and pointed at his 'saggy area' underneath his 'whatsit'. What could I say?? Told him that his bladder was inside his body and that area is for something else and then said we were late for school! So funny. By the way I so LOVE your card and can't believe its circles and hearts, your a genius!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Dolly. First of all ... LOVE your card! So cute ... great design, colors, papers ... and the cottontail - sweet! :)
ReplyDeleteThank goodness kids are so honest ... otherwise, we wouldn't be looking for our walking shoes :) Happy Hilaria Day! :) Lolly xx
Super cute spring card Darnell, love your little bunny! Looks like Dukester is laying down on the job ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are just too funny! As always, I love your funny stories but I do have to share one thing with you and any of your followers how might read this...I have see you in person and and will testify that you DO NOT HAVE A BIG BUTT! Now, with that said, on the your sweet bunny card, just too darn cute!
ReplyDeleteLove your take on the round challenge ~ that's a super cute bunny card!
ReplyDeleteOh, Darnell, you are so funny! There is something to giggle about every time I visit. Plus your bunny card is so adorable! Love the photo too but tell Dukester that garden work does not include on the job naps!!
ReplyDeleteDarnell...me again, wanted to thank you for playing along with us at Simply Create Too!
ReplyDeleteAwwww that bunny is adorable!!! But Miss Thing would like Hammy to know she is keeping an eye on that perky bunny, now that she knows that she is not his one and only. Oh the devastation, the tears I had to deal with this morning!! She is heartbroken - she did not suspect Hammys playboy reputation for a minute! I told her that men are all the same. She feels better now! Haha!!
ReplyDeleteLove the badonkadonk story!! And thank you so much again for your thoughtful note this morning!!! Dumb work is cramping my style!!!
Cute, cute, cute...Mrs Slimbutt!

ReplyDeleteAlong with the other 53 visitors, I did have a laugh at you butt story.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes cropping is good. A pity we can't just crop extraneous bits from our bodies, one day! I love your bunny card and you are so clever cutting a heart in half for the ears.
Such a cute bunny card, Darnell.
ReplyDeleteKids are so blunt with their words...I'm sure it was an early April Fool's joke, though.
Too funny Darnell!
ReplyDeleteI would have got a clip round the ear for that if I had even dared to THINK that thought!
Love that card. I have that paper and never know what to do with it!
Hugs
xx
I missed commenting yesterday, so I'm having a Day of Hilaria today, sparked by reading and laughing heartily at your post! I agree with Geri: you are a shining star in blogland, and with a heart that seems limitless in spreading joy and love! Your bunny: precious! Super cute! Your photo of Duke helping you out: he's got his role wrapped up perfectly (supervisor). Your Henry story: hahhahahaha. Yes, out of the mouths of babes! Love this post x a zillion!
ReplyDeleteHugs~c
Doing a bit of catching up from my sunny holiday in Spain!
ReplyDeleteLove this little bunny you've made of circles and some cut ears and foots, cute! Also loved your colorful card with shiny leaves, so beautiful!
Great post - a card with a bunny backside & discussion of your own ;) Many years ago my little guy was telling some story about "beautiful moms" and used our neighbor as an example - LOL dear husband & I still tease him about it (in fairness, she is beautiful in a leggy, blond model kind of way).
ReplyDeleteAdorable bunny! So glad your buddy isn't around here to comment on my back side! I keep knocking stuff over every time I walk around in my crowded craft room!
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh out loud. It makes me think of two things - Sir Mixalot - I like Big Butts and the Friends episode where that was the only way Rachel and Ross could get Emma to laugh or stop crying - one of those. My girls tell me big butts are in - so you go girl! April
ReplyDeleteSuper sweet card, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteYou left a comment regarding publishing one of my cards.... I give you permission to do that. Could I get a link to where it's going, though, please? Thanks!

I love your card. My first thought was, "cute butt!" And then I read your post and had a real laugh. Thanks for sharing your card with us this week for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. I really enjoyed seeing your work. And I owe you for the laugh. Brightened my day! Thanks again. ~Michelle (who also has a big bottom!)
ReplyDeleteClever and adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh you made me laugh really hard this morning, Darnell! What a joy it is to read your post!
ReplyDeletehugs, Asha
Hoho... what do they say about "out of the mouths of babes" ??? !! Trust a child to be so brutally honest. I reckon though that it's NOT big - he was just too close and it looked disproportionate !!? Yes ???
ReplyDeleteLovely Bunny card :-D
Hugz
IKE in Greece xx
Hi Darnell! Hilarious post today! Love how your pooch likes to sleep right next to you when you're working. Oh for a dog's life!
ReplyDeleteOh that is just PRECIOUS! I didn't realise your grandson liked to live so dangerously!
ReplyDelete67 degrees - oh I would LOVE to have that much heat!
Oh, and your cute bunny card is GREAT!
Hugs, Sarn xxx
what a cute little tushy! :)
ReplyDeleteJust had my usual chuckle here at the Playhouse, and enjoyed the cute card. Clever use of a storebought card to get the paper. Cutie rabbit. I have those same genes as you. It also comes from living a fun life! Gives you more sitting room where there's only a tiny space (or something like that!) Supports your big brain...Oh well, we all deal with it. Think back in the Renaissance..buxom & curvaceous women were the desirable ones, not the skinny scrawnies. (Yeah, that made me feel better too!) Hugs & TFS Loved the bunny.
ReplyDeleteOh kids are so funny--Your post gave me such a chuckle & I adore that picture with you & Duke! Such a clever & darling card, my friend!
ReplyDeleteWell kids say the darndest things - and ain't that great?!?!? Love how you punched this bunny into existence. A heart for ears - I didn't see that coming! Thanks for joining the fun with us at Simply Create Too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hilaria info~that's so interesting! Your dog is so sweet ~I can see he was a big help~HEE! ;) darling card and fantastic attitude~love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, how cute is this little guy ..... I just love his little cotton tail!! Great take on the LIM challenge. Have a great weekend .... hugs Linda xx
ReplyDeleteThis is another late visit for me this week DArnell.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bunny!
Speaking of 'big' ... my granddaughter followed me into the shower last week and gave a similar remark (out of the mouths of babes) about the size of part of my anatomy which comes in pairs! SO I thanked her!
Thanks so much
Chrissie
"Less is More"
Oh, Darnell, another post I have enjoyed so much!! The story of Henry and your butt is hilarious!!! I just love your storytelling style!! And grandmothers need a big butt, 'cause then they've got a big lap as well for grandchildren to sit on!!! (Hope that makes sense!!!)
ReplyDeleteYour bunny card is so clever, Darnell!! I would never be able to come up with something like that!! And my handwriting is such that I cannot dare to use it on a card!! - your's looks very nice!! Very cute card!
