Sorry I haven't been around for a few days. I've been making Easter and spring cards for mailing. Once again, I forgot that they need many days for delivery. Slap.
You might have noticed on occasion that I have inside access to lesser known people, animals, and cartoon characters who have famous relatives. The archives holding this treasured information are located deep underground and they can only be accessed through the bottom of Hammy's cage.
So, for instance, last month you learned about St. Patrick's lesser known Uncle Patrick. Today, you are going to meet Bugs Bunny's lesser known grandfather, "Rugs Bunny." When the staff at the Leon Schlesinger Studios first brought the anthropomorphic figure to life, they were making a takeoff of the father hare created by Cal Dalton in 1938.
Most people don't realize this earlier edition also had a cartoon father dating back to '02 and he is the subject of today's class. His name was "Rugs Bunny" and he proved to be incapable of withstanding the fame associated with being a popular cartoon figure.

Rugs, lacking in self-discipline, was both a heavy drinker and a candy thief. Horrified that children would have their Easter candy stolen by the sweet-toothed sot, the film studio quickly and secretly put Rugs under wraps. {bahdumchuk.}
Here, in a rare photo taken before his commitment, we see Rugs with his tummy fully distended and his jelly bean crack half gone from the jar.

I'm sorry you had to see that, but I have decided that part of my legacy as a blogger is to bring you the true history of these images. We have previously talked about how every family has "that" relative and how we all like to pretend that we aren't really related to them. But, in fact, we are.
As we've heard in Dr. Phil Osophy's class, we wouldn't be where we are today without navigating those painful ruts in the road we've encountered and peeling the stinky onions we've been handed. Along the same molar plane, I believe that all of our ancestors played a role in shaping who we are today.
I should write that down.
My card consists of four stamps, a bit of fussy cutting, and a bit of coloring and glossing.

I may not be posting much for the next several days before and after Easter, depending on how things go. Like so many of you, we have company coming for Easter and the weather is sweet. I am throwing open the sashes, getting in the corners, and under the beds. And that's just playtime. After that I'll tackle deep cleaning and plant some spring bloomage. I love this time of year!

Darnell, like many others, I find all your posts very delightful and the interesting story of the Rugs Bunny is something I would like to read out to my little one. And about the card, it's super-cute!! :)
This is super fun, and usually how I feel after eating half a bag of jelly beans! Carri~Abusybee

Rugs is a cutie patootie!
Great card...brought a smile to my face!
Have a wonderful Easter...like you, we are finding the arrival of Spring heralds a huge list of things to get done! lol
You are so good doing Easter cards, I am very impressed! Love the little historical story today, I have not heard of 'Rugs' before, perhaps stories of him must have been lost in time.... Your card is fabulous, I absolutely love it! If we don't see you before, hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend. Big hugs, Annie xxx
Bwwaahaahaa! LOVED hearing the story of Bugs' granddaddy! ;-)
Such a gorgeous card too, and the jelly beans give it a perfect touch of colour.
And I'll just pop my DT hat on, in order to thank you for playing along at Crafting With Dragonflies! x
I loved reading your story Darnell, thanks for making me chuckle.
Your card is fabulous, I especially love the the glossy jelly beans!
Wishing you and your family a Happy Easter.
hugs Sue xx
Such a fun card! You're good in combining stamps to an original card! Enjoy your week, Gerrina
Oh what fun Darnell - I adore your card and am still giggling at your post :) I bet that Rugs Bunny will likely have a bit of a tummy (notice I didn't say belly - oops I just did!) ache!
Hugs
Di xx
HeeHeeHee...what a great way to start my day (especially since we had overnight (naughty word coming) SNOW)...so I appreciate a bit of humor this early, much better then crying...cute, cute card and story!!!
Bwahaha!! Love the tale of Rugs Bunny and his inglorious shame. Love your card even more, especially because of all the techniques you used. This is phenomenal and such a cheeky Easter card. Happy Easter and don't get deeply sucked into the wormhole called spring cleaning. ;)
Lol!!! Oh such a fun post and such a fabulous card!!
Super cute story Darnell. That card is a chuckle grabber for sure.
Oh dear, I'm pretty sure *I'm* that relative! lol!
LOVE this fun story - I bet the twins would get a kick out of it too! - and I hope you have a LOVELY Easter!
Really cute card and fun post. You'll see why I've been MIA if you go to my blog!
OMG!! What a cute image! Love the story on Rugs Bunny
Ha ha ha . . . that card and story is priceless Darnell.
Happy early Easter wishes going your way.
Hugs, Sarn xx
I am so glad you shared the backstory of Rugs. We are so out of the loop so it's wonderful we have you. Makes me feel so bad that I don't know these things! Love your rendition of him and I can see why he was chucked to the background. The candies are so pretty. I thought spring was here and was going to start by cleaning the garage, however, it snowed last night and is back to freezing!
Well, you certainly exposed Rugs Bunny. I did not know he ever existed. :-) I think he likes candy as much as I do....and, especially he likes jelly beans. Poor tummy will be aching soon.
Cute, cute card!!!
It is so good of you to take on the the responsibility of telling the blogworld about the relatives of famous characters! Thank you for educating us and making us chuckle with another fun card! Rugs Bunny does look like he might regret that last jelly bean he ate...
Super cute and FUN, made me giggle :)
I guess you know how terrible smart you are and what a vocabulary not to mention on heck of a good imagination. I read every drop that you wrote and believe it all!
Do tell - what does Mwah mean.
I always knew rabbits had secrets and now you have gone and proven it!
Sandy xx
I have a sunny smile on my face to match the lovely weather outside, after reading your funny post! Such a cute card, and I'll never look at a bunny in the same lights again!
Hugs

Your blog posts always bring a smile to my face, Darnell! Very cute card! Have a blessed Easter with your family and friends! Hugs!!!
Who knew Rugs even existed before? Not me! I love the police photo of him caught with the goods in his belly though - it's proof he really does exist! :)
Rugs really does look like he's been hitting the sauce lately! BUT, he made into a cute card just the same. Precious!
Hope you have a wonderful Easter.
lynn
I don't know where you found that Rags stamp but I do understand why you got it. He is just so......so you. I think you need to write a book of Tall Tales and Other Folklore.
Hi Darnell
Well thank you very kindly for such an auspicious welcome.
Despite Rug's untimely demise, I think you have captured the essence of his spirit in this wonderful card. . . . . Its what he would have wanted.
Best wishes.
Ang x
I always enjoy your card creations but I also have so much fun and learn so much as well from your writings. Thanks for the history of Rugs Bunny! He was quite a character it seems! If you don't get back before Easter, I wish you a blessed one now.
Rugs Bunny is totally cute! I love how he's leaning up against that half-full (or is it half-empty?) jar of jelly beans. Yum!
Totally in love with "Rugs" and his inability to sustain from gobbling the treats! Not that I just ate a whole box of macadamia nut chocolates...or anything like that...but just sayin'...
Awesome jellybeans - bright colors and awesome flecks of highlights on the candy! Rugs rocks!
Thanks for making my afternoon happy as ever!
Sounds like my kind of guy.
Fab card, fab post and fab better Bunny than Bugs.
Have a good Easter.
Kath x
I love this, a lot! A fabulous quirky image perfect for Easter and I now have to get some jelly beans soon lol! Thank you for your lovely comments sweetie and I hope you have a good and lovely Easter with your friends Karen x
Rugs bunny is too funny! you too!
Oh Darnell! you never cease to amaze and amuse me!! Love your sugar drunken bunny!
Have a great day!
Patti
I love Rugs Dippy, how come I've never come across him before now??? He sounds much more fun than Bugs.......hehe Super card and I know just how he feels after diving into that jar! Wishing you and the whole family a wonderful Easter.
Hugs.

Your Rugs Bunny made me giggle, it is such a fun card. Thanks for joining us at ATSM this week. Monika x
I wondered what had happened to ole Rugs! Those jelly beans look so good, I can't blame him for dipping in. He didn't have to eat so many though! A fun card and delightful post, Darnell!
How lovely, what a clever idea, love the card, thanks for playing with us at Crafting with Dragonflies, blessings Hilde
I always thought Bugs bunny's problem teeth were caused by eating too many carrots, now it is clear they are in fact a legacy from ole grandpa Rugs and his jelly bean addiction. So so sad !
Love your card depicting this great piece of history Darnell I could be tempted by one of those jelly beans myself.
Hope you have a wonderful Easter.
Hugs Lottie x
Such a fun fun card!!!! I love that bunny!!
Oh your posts always make me smile! I do like Rugs bunny and his jar of jelly bean crack!!! The shine on the beans is fab! Thanks so much for playing along with ASM this week!
Oh what one finds when you pull up the carpeting or dig into ancestors. Where do find these tales or is that tails?! Go easy on the furniture now girl but try to have anyway. Hugs
aarrggh hands aren't working tonight...have fun anyway without breaking the furniture :)
Poor Rugs BunnY!!!! I hope he has been going to BB (that's the same as AA in bunny land) Our card is hilarious!! And so cute!
Thank you for your sweet comments on my blog. I look forward to your postings. I love your sense of humor. You make me laugh.
Rugs Bunny, that scoundral! It's nice to see that everyone, even our favorite cartoon characters has 'those' kind of relatives.
Traci
Oh dear...by the time I finish reading your post, I'm laughing so hard that tears are running down my cheeks! Honestly, Darnell...I wish you would write a little book for us, complete with all your little funny sayings and expressions...PLEASE?
Your card is so adorable! I love how 'Rugs Bunny' is sliding down the side of the jar with all those yummy jelly beans! You really nailed it!!!
I've been a busy girl creating a gazillion cards for the Mama Elephant challenge...wish me luck on this one - I'm gonna need it!
Sending you hugs and warm wishes for a Happy Easter! And, take it easy moving all that furniture...we don't want anything to happen to you! Thanks so much for another great post, Darnell...I really enjoyed it!
Too funny! This is so cute, Darnell!
crazy lady! Love this image and thanks for joining us at ATSM
Just popping by. Dialysis is taking it's toll on me, but I do love to check what you're doing even if I don't always comment. Love the Bunny, so cute!!!! Take care, ♥ Karen ♥ x
Well, who knew?! It's good that we have you to keep the history straight Darnell! Love that 'stuffed' bunny!
Oh, Darnell --You've done it again -- I don't know which is better: your story or the card. I enjoy them BOTH! Thanks for connecting me to OhBabs at love2colour (via our hubs blue cars. It amazes what a fantastic community you help to support! What is your Mr's hobby? I don't recall reading about that.
Oh Darnell this is such a cute and funny image, and I love the jar with the jelly beans. I must say I think you missed a trick when you said they put Rugs Bunny under wraps, you should have said they 'swept him under the carpet'..hahaha.
I bet someone else has already said this but I just couldn't resist the temptation. Joking aside, you do come up with some wonderful ideas, and this is just great. x
Love Rugs bunny Darnell and your stories are always so funny! Happy Easter:)
Val x
What a splendid depiction of Rugs, Darnell, with his awesomely yummy looking jelly beans ... thanks for the entertainment ... oops, I mean history lesson! Anita :)
Well Darnell Rugs Bunny certainly does look like like he is on a candy high. I always suspected Daffy Duck having some issues with his exaggerated lisp and all but not the bunny. Thanks for the huge laugh.
Hugs Diane
Hee hee great card and post. You do make me smile. You are so clever with your words. I think I always sound so boring :-) Have sent you an email re the lovely card you send me. Happy, happy Easter. Anne xxx
I was so looking forward to my visit this afternoon when I had a couple minutes uninterrupted (so far!). No disappointments here either. Loved the story of Rugs (yes my family has 'those' relatives too!). Didn't know all that bad stuff, but I'm sure happy that little Bugs showed up on the scene (and he has a few bad habits too...guess it's in the genes - or is that 'benes'?). Cute card. That glass jar really looked like translucent glass too. That poor Rugs..guess he just had one too many. Ka-UTE card. Even cuter story. TFS & Hugs
Hi there, sweet, crazy Darnell! I miss you too! I've had no time to join in at WOYWW for ages, but I haven't forgotten you! I was looking at those lovely moons you stamped out for me only the other day and thinking how I should use them soon!I rather like Rugs! I have a soft spot for that kind of bunny and prefer them to the goody goody kind! There's no hope for me, I fear!
Have a great holiday. Happy Creating! Julie Ann xxx
I'm pretty sure you couldn't tell the difference between Rugs and me these days, even side by side! Slouched, half passed out, barely coherent. Nope, you could not tell us apart!! LOVE the card!! HAPPY EASTER sweet friend!!!
I have one of those relatives. Er.... I mean all my relatives are one of THOSE people. I suspect I was switched at birth... I mean when I hatched.
Anyway, I feel that my life is more complete and fulfilled now that the curtains of secrecy have been ripped from the wall exposing Bugs and the sordid roots that he comes from. Now pass those vodka infused jelly beans over here.
Late to the party again! Bad me, bad me! I did get a peek at this earlier, just haven't had much time to do anything other than work! blechhhhh. Sweet card, and what a great 'history' lesson! I have a whole boatload of "those" relatives. Only it wouldn't be jellybeans they'd have a belly full of... Oh! did I say that out loud??!! Anyway, it's always GOOD to come and visit your blog. Only happiness and fun found here. Blessed Easter dear friend!! Bev
P.S. did you know you can fill a bowl with gummy bears, add vodka and the little basta**s will suck it up like a sponge? When I don't have YKWs anymore, I'm trying that!!
Looks like you've been having fun in the playhouse! Very cute card. Hope you have a wonderful Easter, Darnell.
Teehee, we all have ONe of Those relatives…or are one of them ourselves, lol.
Cute image and fun story :)
LOVE the story of Rugs Bunny and this fabulous card Darnell! You made me smile. Happy Easter and thanks for joining us this past week at ATS&M.
What a wonderful story. Cute card and I hope you have a fabulous Easter.
Holy cow you have 72 comments already! You are the most famous blogger celeb I know and love. Thank you for the history lesson. As I am laughing my head off at how incredibly clever you are. Love this fun Easter card and so glad to know that I am not the only one who forgets about delivery times! Sorry I have been a bad commenter lately, but the task has not been easy as my shoulder keep tensing up when I type! I have been admiring your talent from afar as I always do! xoxo
Thank you for the great explanation for your brilliant card Darnell :D That Bunny is totally fabulous, look at his tum!!!! LOL Have a wonderful weekend :D x
You are just so funny! Rugs Bunny, hmmmm, just to cute and what a fabulous little story too. Now on to your card...just too darn cute, I love jelly beans and think I would have to do the same thing that Rugs is known for doing. Just too cute! See you Monday!!!
ROFL Darnell - hilarious post! Love it! It reminds me of a friend of ours who is a retired librarian at a college of arts. Every few years they would have a Shakespeare festival and do lots of open air theatre, and always around this time, she would start pulling the pannelling away from the library walls, and discover hitherto unpublished scenes from Shakespeare plays - uncannily it was always the one they were performing that year! (She was a very bright lady. She wrote them herself! All in Iambic Pentameter and Blank Verse! Lol!)
Thanks for your wonderfully enthusiastic comment on my blog about my new sewing machine. I think I've got my work cut out from now on, learning how to use it! I've already got a special project in mind as a thank you for Mum so watch this space!
Have a happy Easter,
Shoshi
Thanks so much for sharing the story of Rugs! LOL Ummmm...maybe it was a good thing he retired! :) So glad that you were able to capture an image of him for us to see! :) Your card is adorable! Dear old Rugs needs to slow down on his jelly bean habit!
Good thoughts on navigating the painful ruts and being shaped by our ancestors!
Have a great day!
He's a funny bunny! thanks for stopping by my blog and also becoming a follower! thought I would pop over see you too! xx
haha! This is such a hoot! I love the card, it's made even better with the story, of course! :)
Oh Darnell! You are too funny! Love that bunny and his jelly beans. Great card! :-)
Yes, I too have some "Rugs Bunny" relatives in my family; best not to think of them (and it's not jelly beans causing the slouch either!). Your history lesson and card: delightful! As for spring cleaning - can I say I envy you? I'm in the midst of 'late winter' cleaning, because the darn snow just won't stop falling! Gahh...Maybe in June...July...HAPPY EASTER to you and your family! May it be filled with family, friends, celebration and, of course, chocolate! Hugs~c
Oh, what a lovely post, again, Darnell!! Loved reading it and your card is just sooooo super cool!!!
Have a lovely Easter!!
Greetings from Africa!!
Cute and funny card. Sadly, I, too, am addicted to jelly beans :)
Darnell, you are a HOOT! Love your story about Rugs Bunny. I also love your card! How wonderful to have it for this time of year!

Nessa xxx
Clever use of four different stamps to make this fun Easter card! I like!
I hope you had a wonderful Easter and that you didn't feel quite as bad as Rugs Bunny after some overimbibing!
Ha! I have a few Rugs Bunnies in my family (she says with a turned up grin and eyebrows lifted). Just love reading your commentaries while enjoying your creative take on challenges. This is super!
You are such a delightful writer Darnell, and Gosh, I think you should be published! I loved your little story and loved your sweet card even more. How cute that Rugs bunny is with his full belly and part empty candy jar. lol Just to stinkin' cute I say! Hugs
You really need to seriously consider writing a book, Darnell! Your imagination has no bounds! Love all your stories about the stamps you use on your cards, and this card is absolutely fantastic! Hope you had a fun Easter! ((Hugs!))
