I am still in love with all things Shari Carroll emanating from the Online Card Class I am taking. She did this incredible emboss resist watercolor painting which had amazing depth and part of the image faded off the paper in an awesome fashion. Several of the card artists taking the class have CASEd her perfectly! I don't have a cool honeycomb or hexagon or similar background stamp like Shari used, so I used a NBUS block background stamp called "Inspiration Mosaic" by Gina K. Designs.
And I made this.
Even though this background stamp isn't as dramatic for this type of painting, it is still a pretty color block of watercolor painting. Like the inspiration, I had the edge fade away and I turned my card to have the fade-out be at the bottom.
Then I went in search of a challenge to give me inspiration for how to use my pretty background. I decided to play in the current TIME OUT Challenge which is "Time Flies ~ Love Lasts."
I pulled out my little container of clock/time stash and found the perfect wood veneer timepiece which I smooshed through a pool of purple watercolor paint.
I giggled out loud when I found that I had a stamp that actually said "time flies!" It's NBUS, and I don't know who makes it, but it was cool to find it. I next pulled out my "love" word dies and knew immediately that the block script of this love die (also NBUS) from Papertrey Ink would be a perfect die for the block pattern of the background.
S'kewl, right? You're with me so far?
And then somehow it all went horribly wrong when I decided to travel back to 2003 and rip off the bottom of my card. My thinking was something having to do with the paints dripping down beyond the block pattern and fading away and so it might be cool to have the card be ripped along the edges of the paints.
You know, like time tearing through the fabric of our love, or love lasts through the torn ridges of time, or ... or? Dude, what were you thinking?

The bottom line (oh, hahaha) is that a lot of work and effort went into this card before I decided to rip into it and I'm for sure not going to not share it with you, even if it means I have to resort to double negatives to do it.
And that's what happened. I'm moving on. I suggest you do the same. Just move along folks. There's nothing more anyone can do for this card. Officer, would you please put up the crime scene tape and bring in forensics? And would someone please find me that doggone hamster?!

I love your descriptive abilities.. though you lost me with the NBUS... not having a clue what that little anagram/acronym stands for...and I love your card, one of my favourite things to play with is time, clocks etc and I love the colours you have chosen and actually like that you let rip... it looks kewl!! ;)

This technique has almost convinced me to try watercolouring. I've seen a lot of the other ones but the scale of yours (bigger blocks rather than lots of little areas (which are very pretty)) shows the versatility of this technique! I saw it on your desk in your WOYWW post and I'm glad to see it here in this gorgeous card!
Your post always make me chuckle! I just love your sense of humor! I used to tear my layers a lot and still love the look. Don't know why I don't do it anymore... You might have brought back a trend! And your reasoning makes perfect sense... "time tearing through the fabric of love"... You did a fabulous job on that background!
I don't think this is an oopsie at all! Actually like the torn edge very much. Very artistic, and don't you dare throw it away! Loved the color blocking, the dies and you are acing this class, my friend. The tearing went perfectly with the idea of time tearing away from us! You're ahead of your time (?). LOL. TFS & Hugs.
I had to laugh at your "crime scene" since I can identify several times over. I once entered a card at Less Is More, which I totally "got". And Chrissie commented that neither she nor Mandi understood how it fit the challenge. Oh, I just about cried. What made it worse, is that I'd won the challenge a few months back and I thought I was one LIM hot ticket card-maker. Nothing like a little humility now and again. Have a great week. I love your bg blocks - lovely colours and I like the fading colour towards the bottom. Love your love die, too, but as for the ripped corner - why not dug out the piece you've ripped off, from the dustbin and try to mend it with cellotape (maybe a plaster would do the job, but you'll have to put it on the inside of the card, hey!!) LOL!!!

Torn edge or not, I think the background is fabulous. The lights, the darks, the mix of colors. BTW I think Hammy may be off filming Sprint commercials. lol I think of you every time I see one.
SCORE on the time flies stamp! And oh, Hammy, my goodness. See what happens when you're off gallivanting? I happen to like the ripped edge - but if you don't like it, then I can understand the desire for the forensics team. :)
