Hello Friends!
I'm stopping in with a card I made for the 100th Challenge over at the always-fun and always-challenging CAS(E) This Sketch. I've been a devotee of this challenge since the beginning and with this celebration, Chrissy has brought together current AND former outstanding design team members to enchant and inspire us! Yummo!
When I saw the sketch, I immediately thought of a rooftop. And since I'm making holiday cards, what better rooftop than a church rooftop?
I used my NBUS Papertrip Ink Tip Top dies to cut several roof peaks out of both gold paper and a scrap of beautiful woodgrain paper from GKW. The sediment is from PTI's "Fillable Frames #8 Mini" and the cross I cut from a gold snippet.
That's it. QACAS. I wish I could have taken a picture in the sunshine for you so you could see how the gold sparkles IRL. Then again, you're here because you have a brilliant Imaginarium on your shoulders so I know you can see it.
I hope you will be able to join in the CAS(E) This Sketch 100th Challenge, too! The link will take you to the website for all the details.

When the twins were little guys, one of their favorite interactive songs was, "Here Is the Church, Here Is the Steeple." (I don't know really know if that's the name of it.) It goes:
Here is the church,
Here is the steeple,
Open the door,
And see all the people!
While you sing it you make a steeple with your hands together and then intertwine your fingers and then you open your thumbs (doors) and turn your hands inside out so your fingers (people) waggle back and forth!
Goodness, they loved it! They would clap and laugh and chorus in unison, "Do it again, Bama!"
Do you know it? Is this a universal song for little children?
~~~
I'm hoping to post at least one more Thanksgiving card (poor Thanksgiving gets short shrift!) and after that I'll be cranking out the Christmas cards. You may be seeing more posts from me as I share them with you and I'm looking forward to seeing your creations, too!
I hate to tell you, but all of a sudden we are down to a measly FORTY DAYS until Christmas!!! If you are mailing cards overseas, that's "gulp" time! Oh, I'm sorry. Here, let me help you up.
~~~
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment and/or join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Looking forward to seeing more of your Chrissy creations. Thanks.
Hi Darnell, I see Vickie (#1) has already told you we play that rhyme in Australia, but mostly I must say your card is stunning, and what a lovely theme - I can imagine how it shines, really lovely. You're up late/early cheers Robyn
ReplyDeleteYay! I got here early! LOL! Your church design is GENIUS, Darnell! I love the addition of the cross on the roof. Simply perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I DO know that little church ditty! Used to play that all the time when my girls were young--and those were the exact words to the rhyme! :)
ReplyDeleteFAB church card Darnell!! I LOVED that song when I was little, as did my kiddies :)
ReplyDeleteLove to stop and chat, but I have to run and post my Christmas cards.... EEK!
SO clever Darnell! What a great interpretation of the sketch...I reckon it's a winner!
ReplyDeleteSo great idea
ReplyDeleteI love It
I wish you and all your followers peace in soul and heart

Such a fabulous card Darnell, a great way to use the sketch and I love the sediment.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend.
hugs Sue xx
That is such a clever take on the challenge Darnell, I would be hard pressed to come with anything!! Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI used to do the 'Here's the church' thingy when I was a child and the Grandkids live it to this day.
Hugs, Annie xxx
What a great card Darnell. Love your take on it. I remember my children doing this too, and they all showed it to my Grandchildren. Memories like this last a lifetime. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs Rita xxx
ReplyDeleteI remember that. We'd put our hands together to make the church and then the steeple and then all the people:)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good day. Sue
Great take on the sketch Darnell - and yes I know the song too!
ReplyDeleteFantastic take on that sketch Darnell! Love your card.
ReplyDeleteLynn
Great card! The thought of a rooftop was the first that popped up with me also... Hope you have a fun weekend planned! Hugs, Gerrina
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Miss D.!! The roof reminds me of stained glass, and the gold...! It's perfect. Love this card. Great sentiment too. And yep, mom taught us the "Here is the Church," rhyme too. Fond memories. Thanks for jiggling my memory. Always like thinking of mom. Miss you. Bev
ReplyDeleteA great interpretation of the sketch Darnell. I love the gold, and the patterned paper looks good too.
ReplyDeleteOur children sing the little church song here in England as well, I remember it from when I was a child, and my children and grandchildren all sang it,and now soon my little great granddaughters will be old enough to learn it too.

How clever are you? Pretty darn clever...all I saw when I first beheld the sketch was a Christmas tree top...as did everyone else. But not you...genius. Of course, I know the "Steeple Song", too. I thought everybody did. Used it to entertain my offspring ad nauseum. She was delighted...my fingers were sore.
ReplyDeleteA roof top indeed, and I am loving your roof top Auntie! The gold is amazing and I love the paper in between the gold layers! The sentiment is perfect and of course you have to have a cross if it is a church. Well done! Oh yes, I know the "church and the steeple" song and yes, I adored it too when I was young and loved when ever anyone would do it for me, just like the twins. It just seemed like magic to me cause I couldn't figure out how the "people" got in there. Another was when someone "stole" my nose. That one really got me and I couldn't figure out how I could still breathe. lol Yeah, I never said I was the sharpest tool in the shed! lol Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteThat's cute you brought me back in time with here's the church I did that as a child to I'll have to teach it to the grandbabies thanks for sharing Darnell and I love your card with the gold it's just beautiful !!
ReplyDeleteStunning design with the gold mirror paper and that dp is lovely too. It's a simple yet so very effective look, and I'm always drawn to the religious themes of this season. Hard to find pretty images to fit it. You made your own, and it's wonderful. Yes, I know that rhyme. My parents played that game with me, and same was passed along to our DD. TFS & Hugs.
ReplyDeleteAwesome design. Great idea making it a church roof!
ReplyDeleteI love the gold and the sentiment. Yes, my grandmother taught us the 'here's the church' and that was more than 50 years ago, and she was in her 60's then. So it has been around for a long time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cards. This steeple one is unique and I am going to try it.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Ohio (US) for over 60 years and know that saying. I've been teaching it all the kids I've come in contact with. Thanks for the memory!
Carole
Great card there Darnell. I love the clean lines and no wonkiness!
ReplyDeleteYes I know the finger people church thing! My big sister taught me that!!
Hugs

This is beautiful, Darnell!!! Love your take on the sketch!
ReplyDeleteClever interpretation of the sketch, Darnell, love it!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great take on the sketch! I love it, Darnell! This holiday card idea is one I must keep!

ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea, but you do brilliant ideas so very well.
ReplyDeleteLove the Church roof, the gold is gorgeous, hope no one strips it off!

I love your church roof top, Darnell. Such a creative use of the sketch! I remember the church steeple song too!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! What a perfect creation for this challenge!
ReplyDeleteDear Darnell, I love the way how the sketch inspired you.:-) The roof of the church is amazing idea and colour gold was a perfect choice. :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day, Sonja
I saw this card and it immediately brought me back to the church yards and the great stained glass windows. So if you were going for evocative of a church, you nailed it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Darnell, this has to be a winner. Such a brilliant idea, and the execution is flawless. I so love your card. What a great idea. Bowing in awe!
ReplyDeleteLove your roof and cross, Darnell. Why didn't I think to use my Tipped Tops? And I can't believe yours are NBUS. For a reason I can't recall, a bunch of us oldies were singing that song at church a couple of weeks ago. I think it IS universal.
ReplyDeleteLove how you added the cross to the design. Yes, we did that saying as kids all the time :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful take on the sketch! I love the gold and tiny cross too! Yep, I remember that little church story done with the hands and finners :) Brings back memories doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love this card! Perfect CAS card! We always did the "Here the Church" with our kids, too!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant !!! This is such an clever card :-) YES - we sang that as kiddoes and I taught it to my daughter :-D
ReplyDeleteHugz
IKE xxxxxxxx
Fab take in the sketch and love hoe you placed the cross, I really need to get some religious stamps for XMas. We have a childhood song that we still sing! When you have been out in the car and coming home at a certain road we start singing a song that finishes as you get to the drive. It is called 'home' I won't write it all out but it is basically about how we all love our home and family. My poor hubby has to sing it now when we go to my parents!!
ReplyDeleteLove your QACAS card. Really nice. Yes we do the same rhyme here in Australia and my daughter, Elysha will entertain my granddaughter for ages with it. They both laugh so much I love the sound of such innocence.
ReplyDeleteYou just know I'm going to love this, Darnell ... the shimmery gold, the hint of stained glass in the DP ... and that cross ... just so perfect ... and modern ... and did I say perfect?? Played with my niece so often with that ditty ... she pealed with laughter every. single. time ... what joy ... and what a lovely reminder ... merci beaucoup! Bisous, Bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely card. I love the cross on the roof and the soft woodgrain paper. That along with the perfect sediment - gorgeous. We always did that saying and popped up the fingers too. The kids would just giggle. Forty days? That can't be right - oh my gosh. I may have to panic!
ReplyDeleteThis feels both traditional and contemporary at the same time. Great design!
ReplyDeletePerfect card for the challenge!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this card Darnell! We do the.. heres the church...... as well. Keeps the littles one quiet for a second or two in church.
ReplyDeleteLovely Darnell, very classy
ReplyDeletehugs Jacee
Simply Paper Card Design
This is a great interpretation of the sketch Darnell and I love the gold with the that pretty sort of marbled woodgrain with the pretty blue colour running through it. I too have to be getting on with Christmas cards as I am way behind. By the way over here we do have the 'here is the church' rhyme with the hand actions, in fact I can remember doing it for my son when he was small, but as far as I can remember we just said it as it didn't have a tune. I don't have grandchildren yet but looking at all the replies it sounds as though it is still around. x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Darnell and a fabulous interpretation of the sketch, hugs Carole Z X
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Darnell! Wonderful interpretation of the sketch. And my kids loved that song too! It was so fun to see the finger 'people' inside your church!
ReplyDeleteI can see how the gold shines! What a fun idea for the challenge, and yes, I taught my kids the same rhyme!
ReplyDeleteLove your take on this sketch and you really make a beautiful church, love all the gold too.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you've interpreted this sketch! Amazing card, my friend! And this time I think this comment will go through...maybe.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah!! love that song : ) Your stunning card is too elegant for that song though wow!! really exquisite : )
ReplyDeleteYou are one clever Vegemite, Darnell... love this card, cute plus! .. and yes guess the other 57 comments have said it is a church steeple , cant see them at mo, and yes we say it downunder too guessing it originated in Uk meslef :D
ReplyDeleteWell done dear friend, hugs and prayers, Shaz in Oz.x
Fantastic interpretation of the sketch. I love all that gold.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute genius! Wowzer, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteThe church song with the hands must be universal as I did it when I was a child and taught it to my children. I wonder how long its been around for?? Love the simple but classy card. You can never go past gold and that woodgrain paper is beautiful. I must join in with this challenge as its one of the first ones I linked to back in January (and I think I even go an HM??). Hope they are around for at least another 100 more!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as always :-)
ReplyDeleteOne word - GORGEOUS.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing a smile to my face (and a wee ache my heart)...my dad loved doing the "church finger song" with the kids when they were little!
ReplyDeleteYour card is exquisite, stunning and elegant! Perfect in every way! Especially loving the wee cross and the sentiment!
Totally a winner!!!
Oh, this is beautiful! Fabulous take on the sketch, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteWinner, Winner, Chicken Dinner...I'm calling it for this GORGEOUS take on the sketch! What a clever idea, and your gold foil papers are perfect! I also love the pastel DSP that you chose...looks like the reflection from the stained glass inside the church! LOVE this card, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteOh, and yes, I used to love singing that song to my children, then grandchildren...it's so funny how some things are so universal :) Hope all is well, Hugs ~ Barb
What a fantastic take on the sketch!! I definitely see a roof!
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say, just . . . STUNNING! I gave up on this challenge as I just couldn't get my concept card to materialise . . . I ruined three, just at the finishing line . . . sometimes, you just know, some things aren't meant to be! :) Hazel xx
ReplyDeleteYour card is a marvelous take on the sketch; one that had me running away at 100 miles an hour (okay, maybe not that fast, but close). Your verse: my niece and nephew LOVE it, especially when my wiggly 'people' tickle their noses!
ReplyDeleteHugs~c
WOW, this is such a great take on the sketch, Darnell!!!! Love what you have done here!!!! The gold looks stunning and I love the little Cross you added!!! Another very creative creation!!! Me thinks this is going to be one off the picks for the week!!! Great card!!
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely brilliant use of the sketch!!!
