Normally, I would start with a line about where to click if you are looking for my NBUS Challenge #3, but wait a second! I've got a little surprise for you for the coming week!
I've been a fan and consistent participant in the CASology challenge since the very first cue card. In fact, I was a guest designer there almost exactly two years ago when it was only week 30! It's wonderful to see it still going strong and if you haven't had the pleasure of playing there, I hope you'll join in!
And now, it is my utmost pleasure to bring you this week's cue card!
NBUS = Never-Before-Used Schtuff
I'm sure you are pickled tink right along with me that my little coined aackronym is the CASology cue card challenge word and I hope you will join us in both challenges this week!
Basics
- Make a creation using any schtuff (old or new) that has never been used before.
- Link it up here to join in the CASology Challenge #129 (ends Monday 1/19/15).
- Link it up here to join in the NBUS Challenge #3 (ends Thursday 1/22/15).
Remember, if you are linking to both challenges,
please keep it clean and simple
coz that's how CASology rolls!

My CAS / NBUS Inspiration Card
The NBUS poppy and sediment used on my one-layer card are from the "Pretty Poppies" stamp set by My Favorite Things. There are sparkles galore with glitter gold in the flower center and Wink of Stella all over. You can't really see it, but even the little bling has bling! It's meant to be an uplifting card after all!
I thought this design would also work as a sympathy card. Here is one I made using a Spica gold pen for the flower center to keep the card more somber.
This stamp set is so lovely. There are even matching poppy dies available, which I have and which are NBUS, but I really liked this design using just the stamps.
I'm partial to poppies because we are fortunate to have poppies growing wild in California. In fact, they are our state flower. Here's a picture I took last May of California poppies growing wild along the coastline.
Thank you to Melissa and the entire Design Team of talented card artists for letting me play along this week, thereby promoting each other's challenges (how cool is that?!), and encouraging the obliteration of NBUS all over the world, one creation at a time!!
Please make sure you click over to CASology for the details on rules, etc., and to see the other sensational creations the Design Team has made for you using their own Never-Before-Used Schtuff (NBUS)!!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on being GD over at the CASology blog. As much as I love your first card (I think we should start an Addicted to Wink of Stella association if it does not exist yet), I think I like your sympathy card even better. Perhaps it's because that beautiful image does not really need any dressing up. We have lots a wild poppies here on Crete and I love them. They are also my husband's favourite flower.
ReplyDeleteSo incredibly excited to be collaborating with you this week. Your cards are both simply lovely and CAS-as can be. Did I hear a rumor that Oxford is adding NBUS to their dictionary this year? If they can add #, can NBUS be far behind? I've been naughty lately so have plenty of NBUS to choose from. Unfortunately I don't keep it separated so I'll have to go looking. I, too, am in love with poppies and yours are spectacular, Darnell. Congrats on your collaboration with CASology and the guest design spot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pointer to Casology, they're great.

Congrats on the joining up of the two challenges! I have a feeling it will be very fun for all involved. I have to say I adore your poppy cards. Having grown up in Southern CA and then living in the high desert, I took poppies for granted. I have a framed photo of them in my hallway and it's surprising how many times I look at that photo and smile. I found a place that sells seeds and I am hoping to grow some here next spring/summer. Fingers crossed!:) Your cards are lovely. You definitely caught the bling on the first one!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, what a beautiful card, love poppies! I've just been over to enter your merged challenge, OMG how many entries are there?!!!!! Well done on your D spot:)
ReplyDeleteVal x
Congratulations Miss Iowa. How proud all of your friends are of you. To now have your NBUS Challenge a part of CASology's weekly cue word is incredible. I will get a card or two done shortly but I am still struggling with my energy level. Way to go!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on this HUGE honor...so well deserved cuz you are THE bestest in all of blogland!
ReplyDeleteLove the glammed up version of the first (great photo that captures the 14K gold sparkle) and the subtleness of the second card. So cool to see how the card transforms with a simple change! The scored lines - ahhhhh...
"Hamsterated" - love it!
NBUS is not yet in the dictionary, but it should be. At least it is now well known all over blogland.

ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful and love all the glittery goodness.
ReplyDeleteHugs Diane
You are a supper star Auntie!!! lol I love that you were asked to be a GD for CASology and how exciting to have the cue card be NBUS! I love it! And I am totally in love with your cards! The first one, oh my, the bling, the sparkle=swooning! You second one is just perfect for a sympathy card with your poppy being toned down a bit with the sparkle and shine. I too love poppy's and we have quite a few of them here in PA too, but instead of growing wild (I wish they were) you will find them in people's gardens. Around a mailbox, etc..Thanks for the fun cards and thanks for being so dang talented! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteDarnell, I cannot take my eyes of that stunning poppy! WOW! You've taken a simple flower stamp to a whole new level. It is lovely as it comes, but all of the sparkle makes it extraordinary. The sentiment is so unique and beautiful... I love this card so much and I'm always such a happy camper when I visit you. :o) Congratulations on your guest designer spot, too! They are blessed to have you! :o)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,

ReplyDeleteIsn't this beautiful! So CAS and absolutely lovely. You really captured the sparkle and shimmer in your photo. It is so difficult to show the Wink of Stella shimmer, but it's wonderful in real life. Love the crisp contrast of red on white.
ReplyDeleteYeah, for joining in with Cas-ology, Darnell!!! That is just super - congrats!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd your cards are stunning, Darnell!! I love the red poppy - the toned down one is beautiful on the sympathy card and I love all the sparkle on the other one!!! Beautiful!!
Love the photo of your Californian poppies - they are one of my favourite flowers - had some of them in my garden when we were still in Cape Town!!! So beautiful!!!
Have a super weekend!!!
Hey Darnell!! Your card is simple beautiful!! That poppy is amazing. I wish I could working with floral like this! Your card is CAS at its best!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card and love both of the designs. We have those orange poppies growing wild where I live in NZ. I love them because they are such a bright and happy colour. Will think of you when I see them next! And well done promoting both your challenge and CASology's. You know how much I enjoy that challenge, and yours, so its a match made in heaven!!!
ReplyDeleteHi. I just wandered over from the CAS blog. I love seeing all of the CAS cards, but I haven't joined much on their challenges because I usually can't stop at CAS when I make cards!
ReplyDeleteI saw that you started the NBUS Challenge and am interested because I have plenty of NBUS!!! I am in between craft rooms (basement flooded this past summer, dear hubby has promised to make one of our spare bedrooms into my craft space, but other projects are ahead of it!), but I hope to join in on few of your challenges. I LOVE your Playhouse :-)
I love poppies, are delicate and full of life. If you have a flower girl, it was poppy. I love them and your cards. They are so beautiful.
