A very special hello to all the Moms around the world who we are celebrating today! And a belated hello to those moms in places like the UK who had their Mother's Day celebration back in March. I received a lovely card and a beautiful bouquet from Dan and Rachel and the twins and I am cyber-sending this card out to Rachel, in turn, and to all of you wonderful moms, wherever you are!
Like so many, I did not have a happy childhood, but as an adult I was blessed with a wonderful MIL and many "adopted moms" who more than compensated for my youth. Cheers to moms, the memories of moms, and those who are moms at heart!

For my card, I used some rediscovered store-bought blossoms. This one was made by Jessica Swift.
I added some sponged ink for a little depth and topped the confection with an SU pink ruffled pearl. The "ribbon" band is a length of Washi tape. Since I don't have a "MOM" stamp, I used a "WOW" stamp from SU "Friendly Faces" - no, that's not right, it's "Friendly Phrases." After I post this, I'll pop it off and turn it around so it says WOW once again and, wallah, I'll have a celebration card in my stash.

And here's my twofer card:
The blossom is a Memory Box die called, "Prized Chrysanthemum Outline" and the NBUS sediment is from Stamping All Day. (Thank you, Viv!) I filled the negative petal openings with two shades of lilac and lavender. The smell is heavenly. The leaves were cut from a die I can't seem to lay my hands on this minute, which is odd because my desk is clean. My guess is there's a naughty hamster around here somewhere.
The thing is, I mostly made this design in order to have a play with doing leaves the way my friend Loll showed us how in a superb video. It looked amazingly involved (to me), but it is really easy to do. I just love the end result and the difference it makes, compared to the 1D leaves I normally stick on my cards, is enormous. Thank you, Lolly!

No feeth up here; it finally is dry and not so windy, so the garden waits. First some actin with the lawnmachine by the daughter, me using the broom and than polish the two teak tables and bench, let them dry and put oil on it. Clean all the stonepaths and all around the pound, so all looks more normal instead of some kind of green :) Sleeves up and go do my fitness!! :) Have a great sunday!
FAB makes and pix, thanks for sharing and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to you too
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your retreat, catch you on your return

These cards are both beautiful Darnell and I love the dimension on that pretty pink blossom and your clever sentiment which can be twisted back the other way, and the second is such gorgeous colours and the inlay with the prettily coloured and shaped leaves works wonderfully. I had no idea how difficult your childhood was until I read your piece from 2012 which brought a tear to my eye, but I am very pleased that your adult life has been so blessed and that you and three of your sisters now get together on a regular basis. I realise how lucky I was to have a 'regular' childhood and loving parents. x

I love the way you've done the duo tone inlay and this is a gorgeous look to this super great die. You used it so admirably. ReplyDeleteGorgeous blooms, Darnell ... in the vase and on your cards! The dimensional pink one is lovely ... if the sentiment was whirlable it'd say Wow, Mom (which I guess is what Dan says all the time!). LOVE that scented lavender-lilac crysanthemum ... it's crisp and clean and simply beautiful! Hope you're having a wild sister time! Delighted to have you playing along with us at Time Out! Hugs & Bisous, my friend, Anita :)
