Hi Stampers! I hope your week is passing smoothly and happily!
I'm going to get right down to business as I'm feeling a bit under the weather. But wait. Instead of getting right down to business, first I see a squirrel and must go off and research the origin of that oft-used phrase. They say it either stems from the idea that the weather affects our mood or it is believed to be shorthand for the phrase "under the weather bow," which referred to the windward side of the ship's bow, which took the brunt of the high seas.
Okay, good. I think it's both. Let's move on:

Okay, good. I think it's both. Let's move on:
This "artsy" coloring was done by applying DI to my teeniest one-inch acrylic block, one color at a time, and then just "stamping" it onto the paper and smooshing it just a little. I stood my Corner Garden stamp up in front of me while I was applying the inks to the naked paper, so I could sorta aim my smooshing in approximately the places where the blooms were. I suppose it would have been easier to stamp the image first and then smoosh the colors, but I, well, I just went the other way. I think I was afraid the black ink would smear. Or the hamster was at lunch.
The whole coloring process took like five minutes and I just love how it ended up when I actually stamped the image onto my smooshed colors. I'm usually a "color inside the lines" kind of gal when it comes to coloring, but I have to say this rebellious outside the lines behavior worked beautifully with this line-drawn stamp. To give some added interest, I popped the image panel over an embossed card bottom.

No twofer card today. Instead, look who came for a visit to the Playhouse!
This tall and pretty lady is none other than Susanne Vargas of Keep in Touch. She and her handsome husband and sons traveled from the East Coast to the West Coast on holiday and Hammy and I were fortunate enough to be included in their itinerary!
Susanne is as sweet, kind, and fun in person as she appears to be on her wonderful blog! It was a true pleasure to meet her and spend some time with her. It wasn't enough time, but it was fantastic! If Susanne is new to you, you'll be doing yourself a favor if you go and get acquainted with this beautiful lady and her incredible cards!
~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!
If I didn't have an ADD husband and son, I wouldn't have understood your squirrel reference. "Oh look, a squirrel!" is said a lot around here! I think it was also used in the cute movie, "Up".
ReplyDeleteI really like the effect you got with the smooshing on your pretty card -- I never thought to use my tiniest acrylic block.
Hope you are feeling a lot better by now, Darnell! How fun for you to have had such a special visitor. You both looks tickled pink in that photo. :) Adore your card. I am an in the lines kind of gal myself as well and still I adore the out of the lines feel of this card. What a great look you can achieve with a stamp block and some ink. Wow!
Firstly, hope you feel better soon and secondly, wishing you a happy belated birthday! Hope you had a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteHaving been away for a week or so with very little Internet connection, then being asked to work every day this week supply teaching has resulted in getting behind with my blog visiting and commenting. :-( I've just been looking at all the fabulous creations you've posted over the last week or so. I must try that technique with the cover plates - the results are stunning! xx
Hello Darnell,
Gorgeous card. Beautiful job smooshing. I hope you don't have what I have had for 4 weeks. This horrible cough and no energy. I am starting to get some energy back this week but still have some coughing. Yuck it's not fun being sick in the summer. So hope you are feeling better soon. Fun meeting another blogger. Great picture.
ReplyDeleteInside or outside the lines, this card is a winner. Wish I could produce something like that while smooshing. Need to practice.
ReplyDeleteYour card is gorgeous, as always, Darnell! I've not got the stamp set, but I'll for sure add it to my wishlist now after seeing this :)
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful card and the details on how you created it. I also hope you are soon feeling much better. Take care!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you aren't feeling 100% Darnell! Hope you are back to rights real quick! I love the 'artsy' look of your acrylic block stamping, you did make me smile when you said that it would probably have been better to stamp the image first, as that is the sort of 'back-to-front' type of thing I always do ;) But it turned out just fabulous anyway . . . which is NOT like mine! Thanks for joining us at Happy Little Stampers! Hazel xx
ReplyDeleteA beautiful summer beauty, Darnell! Love this technique that you created your card with and I will be trying it too with my small square blocks!
Hope that you will be feeling better soon.
Hugs XOX
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous you & Susanne got to bond and I wasn't invited. Just because I'm in NY & have never even been to California doesn't matter. In fact, that's exactly why I should have been there. Can you please get Hammie started on teleporting me there? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOk now for your card, I mean work of artsy card. How fabulously you have colored outside the lines. Stamp the image first? I would never expect that of you, my friend. Feel better!
What a great variation on the smooshing technique. I love how you're able to individualise the colours to particular areas on your stamp. Been wanting to do this and hadn't had the patience to sit down and nut it out. Thanks for taking the time. :)
ReplyDeleteYour smoothing card is really arty! Great colour choice too - fabulous card! I hope you feel better soon - take care! xxxxx
ReplyDeleteHow fun for you and Susanne, it is always so much fun to meet up with blogging friends in person, always a wonderful treat. Love your sweet photo too, you both look fabulous. And just like your card, simply fabulous Miss Darnell, love your smooshing.
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell....I'm a colour in the lines gal too but I'm definitely going to give this technique a go, your card is fabulous and so simply pretty
ReplyDeleteThis is GORGOUS Darnell. Your rebellion certainly paid off and has produced a wonderful card. Will definitely have to try that idea. Hope you're feeling better now and have a super weekend xx
ReplyDeleteSure hope you are feeling 'above the weather' by the time I got around to zipping in to enjoy this pretty card. Aren't you clever to think of using the smoosh technique with this particular stamp, as it was just absolutely spot on to use with the colors (and yes, being organized you, you smooshed the right colors in the appropriate place! I'd never think that far ahead!) And of course you had the 'sparkle-ies' in just the right places too. I'm liking the way you've overlayed the embossing with the main panel too. You've had a great season, getting to meet so many of your blogging buddies (with a couple more to come!). I count myself very blessed to have been in that number! Big hugs and hope you're getting ready for this next adventure. Big hugs. TFS & have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI too am am in the lines kind of person. I do however like to see a well done artsy bit of rebellion now and again. Really nice work Darnell. Cherokee and Jill both say Hi.
ReplyDeleteLove, Hugs and Blessings
Jim
If Hammy was at lunch it just proves you don't need that hamster to create a wonderfully rebellious card. (Shhh don't tell him I said that.) I think that was the perfect stamp to use with that technique. Yay! for meeting blogging friends. I'm so glad the playhouse was open for visitors that day.
ReplyDeleteGaspingly gorgeous, Darnell ... the outside the lines smooshing is so deliciously unstructured and free ... and so brilliant with those lovely stamped blooms! How fantastic that you and Susanne got to meet and spend some time together ... in the Playhouse! What a wonderful photo of you two beautiful girls! Hugs & Bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteCool, idea. I have this very stamp, and don't use it often because it's time consuming to color.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card and beautiful picture of you and Susanne! So fun to meet up in person.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the TOP 10 at Virginia's View! LOVE the watercoloring...oh SO Trendy:)
ReplyDeleteThe lovely colours you have smooched so cleverly onto your card front looks great, Darnell!! And that flower stamp is just gorgeous!!! Beautiful card!!!
