Hey! How's it goin'? Happy Sunday Funday!
I wasn't going to post this weekend, but then what happened was I was visiting other blogs and I saw a coupla three challenges that I just HAD to play in. I mean, I just HAD to play in them in that stop-the-presses-and-never-mind-about-whatever-it-was-you-were-doing sort of way. I wonder now what it was that I was doing? It can't have been important. She says, hoping.
So here's my first:
So here's my first:
This card was inspired by the Muse: Christmas Visions card. This week the Muse is the extraordinary card artist Marika Rahtu of Me and Minime Crafting. Here is Marika's adorable card:
Now, seriously, doesn't that make you want to drop everything and play along?! It did me.
My miniature Rudolph with the goofy doofus smile that makes you smile back is from Your Next Stamp, "Believe in the Magic." The presents (some of which were popped up) were paper-pieced and then fussy-cut using two vo SU stamps. The quizzical little birdie on top is a NBUS stamp from Purple Onion Designs, "Stacey Yacula Studio Winter Bird Sitting" and the sediment is from Stampabilities. Appropriate winking, a Rudolph red nose, and googly eyes were applied!
Challenges
- ColourQ: See graphic below.
- Muse: Christmas Visions. Marika Rahtu.
- Rudolph Days: July.

Today's Twofer
Over at Less Is More there is a happy celebration going on as Fearless Leader Chrissie turns 70 years young! Chrissie is a card hero of mine who has become a good friend. She was a huge help to me in my early days in Blogland and LIM remains one of my favorite challenges, so I couldn't pass up the celebration party for Chrissie!
AND, yet another good friend and card hero just happens to be guest designing at the LIM birthday party challenge! Her name is Di and she is the Fearless Leader of another challenge you see me entering often: Pixie's Snippets Playground! At Pixie's the only rule is that you use some snippets (or scraps as we Americans call them) on your creation.
Here you go:
The sweet cake is from Stamps by Judith and the sediment stamp is from PTI. The cake plate is NBUS from Avery Elle's "Fanfare" set. The sweet balloon border was cut from a snippet of SU DSP using a NBUS die from Lil Inkers called "Fanfare Scalloped Border Die." Honestly, I forgot I had it, but Hammy remembered and pointed out that it matched the swirly fanfare scallops on the cake plate perfectly! The corner was chomped and the cake and candle were winked to finish it off.
Happy Birthday, Chrissie, and many more!!
Happy Birthday, Chrissie, and many more!!

p.s. Looks like you had a fabulous vacay on Vancouver Island! I made it my home for several months one summer while in University and LOVED it! We spent most of our time in Qualicum Beach and Qualicum Bay working to feed ourselves and pay the bills - and didn't have much time to be tourists - but loved visting Port Alberni, Victoria and in particular Long Beach in Tofino. The hotel I will never forget - The Wickkaninish. Breathtaking views! We loved it enough to return for our honeymoon. :)
How very adorable the first card is Darnell! The second is a great example of CAS! Both different and both great! You'll be proud to hear I have used 2 more of my NBUS items on today's card!! Have a lovely Sunday! Hazel xx
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas card is my 2015 favorite so far! The critters were a perfect choice to pair with that delightful pile of pressies. Love your snippets birthday card, too. It's colorful and festive. Hammy has a great memory, doesn't he! I need a Hammy to help me remember what I've got to work with, too!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell! I love all of the googling, winking and nose layering going on at your Playhouse...so much cuteness and fun!

ReplyDeletewonderful cards as always. So cute and beautiful is each of them.
Best regards, Synnöve
I can see why you HAD to play along! Perfect cards for the challenges too...so sweet!
ReplyDeleteImpressive entry to the "Muse" challenge. You had me at that reindeer. He's so fun and cute. It must be a he because of the antlers. And then there's that pile of paper-pieced presents (say that quick 3 times, then reach for a tissue). You must have the patience of Job. Sparkles, too, a home run in any book. Your twofer is another stunner. Golly, girl, for not having a post this weekend, you did pretty good.
ReplyDeleteGlad you just had to play along in the Christmas muse challenge, otherwise this card might never have been. It's too cute, love the funny looking reindeer and all that sparkle and glitter!
ReplyDelete2 fabulous cards. Adorable moose and chick on the Christmas one. And love that scallop edge on the b'day card.
ReplyDeleteI love how you incorporated the Color Q challenge in your Christmas card and piecing everything together so it looks like it was just one stamp. The 2nd card is great with that scrumptious cake
ReplyDeleteI agree, Darnell, I had to drop everything and make a Muse card this week, too -- and I'm so glad you did because your card is adorable and perky and fun! So much glittery, whimsical goodness in one card!

And the pile of paper pieced gifts...amazing. A great combination of images & colors. Loved the pretty Christmas candle, and yes, I do understand the stop the presses urge (it's very easy to postpone housework I think). Great cards, happy cards, make me feel good cards! WTGo! ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous cards, Darnell! Love that cute little reindeer on the first card. I think I might "need" a few cute stamps like this and not so many "serious" stamps! LOL! And, yes, I was yelling at you about our never-ending supply of scrapping/card making goodies! I've been really good lately, though. I haven't ordered anything in about 2 months! Yay Me!! That's not to say I don't see plenty that I'd like to have....just trying to have a little restraint (and I've started thinking about what my kids will ever do with all this schtuff!)
ReplyDeleteFun cards!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome stack of presents, Darnell! Are they all for the birdie? Looks like he's claimed them. Rudolph makes me laugh with his googly eyes and silly smile! And what a wonderful birthday card for Chrissie! Love how you've matched the scallops on the side to the cake plate!
