Cheering Up With Color

Hi there!

I hope you have had a great week!

Did you think I had whooshed completely out of the Blogosphere? No, no, but I wasn't feeling my best and that sucked the mojojuice right out of me.

Not only that, but you may remember my sister came for a visit recently. Well, after she left almost a week ago, I went out to the Playhouse to find a note from Hammy that he had gotten bored while I was busy with my sister, so he left to go see his own sister.

Wait. What? I didn't even know he had a sister.

Now that I think about it, he did put the word "sister" in quotes in his note, so I'm thinking he meant he was going off to see one of his girlfriends! Oh, help!

After much sighing and napping, yesterday I decided that I couldn't wait for him to return and I just needed to muddle on without him. To cheer up and get the mojojuice flowing, I switched things up around here, using colored cardstock for both my cards!

Here we go!
This is a simples QACAS card. I used a tempting turquoise card base lined with white panels.Over a double layer of Washi tape I heat-embossed a sediment from My Favorite Things in white and I added two store-bought butterfly embellishments for play.

I wish you could see these butterflies IRL. They are just exquisite little creatures, made by Little B. Here is a close-up, which still doesn't do their sparkles justice. (By the way, they are a lovely raspberry color IRL. I don't know why they turned purplie in the photo.)

Today's Twofer

My twofer was inspired by this pretty Christmas card made by my friend Chriss Blagrave for MUSE: Christmas Visions:
Here is my take:

  • I decided to sorta turn Chriss's pretty card inside out by using old olive as my card base, red as my decorative-edged panel, and black for my poinsettia. I see you cocking your head to the side. Whadya think? Chriss loves poinsettias, so I'm hoping she likes this one, even in nontraditional black.
  • I don't actually have a poinsettia die, but have you ever noticed how poinsettia petals look just like leaves? So I made my poinsettia by layering leaves from a Memory Box "Tender Leaves" die!
  • (I'm not saying that was genius or anything, but if a certain hamster is reading this, he might want to hustle his sweet cheeks back to the Playhouse. I'm just sayin'.)
  • The flower center was found in the bottom of my flower drawer, waiting patiently for this day to come.
  • As Chriss did, I added a flourish (Hero Arts) around the panel, embossed in gold. My sediment is from Hot Fudge Studio, heat-embossed in black instead of gold to balance out the heaviness of the black flower.
  • Chriss added a leaf to her poinsettia flower, but since I used leaves to make my flower, I then would have needed to use a flower as my leaf and even to my heavily-medicated-inside-out way of thinking, that was just too convoluted and confuzzling, so I left it off. Are you all woozy now, too?!

Lets hope hammy oesn't bring his sister/girl end back for a visit cos you know what two hammy's can make!! Laid up myself at the mo as made th mistake of having two icecreams yesterday whilst we were out and then walked quite a bit. Now my legs hated valerie dip ith blood provisioning. On strong pills to counteract the redness and sop it creeping up my legs . If it,s not one thing it's another. On predictive text so this could take a bit of dispersing.
Anyways I Thankyou for your smashing butterflies. I can just see the shimmer from my prone position. Hugs Mrs A.

Fabulous post, and two great cards. I admire your improvisation especially as you have been out of sorts. Do hope you are feeling perkier now! Hugs xx

Fabulous cards Darnell - and I do love the use of coloured card for them. I'm out of the habit of doing that - they look great. LOVE the improvised poinsettia too, I do believe that the red 'petals' are in fact leaves in real life - the flower(s) are the yellow bits in the centre. Don't ask where I picked up that snippet of useless information!

Did Hammy take a little spotted cloth handkie on a stick over his shoulder with his toothbrush and PJs in when he went visiting? :)

Hugs

Hope you recover quickly. Good to know your crafting skills haven't abandoned you, though. Cuz both these cards look terrific. It's a genius idea to use leaves for your poinsettia and personally, artistic license allows for black. It really look great against the olive card stock. Anyway, get well soon.

I hope that you are feeling better now Darnell.
I love both of of your beautiful colourful cards. The blue one is my favourite with the pretty sparkly butterflies, but the second one is gorgeous too. Who would have thought a black poinsettia could look so good? ( you did obviously!!) Creatively clever to use a leaf die to make the flower.

The butterfly card on blue is A-Mazing! Can't image that these elements would have had the same "Sha-zam, Ka-Bam" on white cs. The butterflies really are divine! Great job capturing their shimmer in the photo.

The turquoise card is gorgeous and those butterflies are too! I believe you sent me a card with a butterfly like that but larger! And your poinsettia out of leaves is brilliant. (Who needs Hammie?) Glad you didn't put flowers for the leaves though. Hope you are feeling better. No fun feeling bad!

I'm sorry to hear you've been under the weather. That Hammy should have been taking better care of you instead of gallivanting off. Actually if you look at a poinsettia before it turns red it IS all leaves, so your using leaves to make one was spot on. And you had the perfect leaves to do it. I love the gold embossed stitching around the edges, too.

Those 3-D butterfly embellies are beautiful, and I like the colour combo with the washi tape and coloured cardstock! A perfect CAS card! Your Christmas card is stunning! I love both these cards. The first is so pretty with the blue and the glittery butterflies even if they show purple here. I love the 2nd card and that stamp of "It's A Wonderful Life" Where oh where did you get that?? I must have one and will check out the place you mentioned as I must have that being a fan of that film. I love the black poinsettia and think you did a really great CASE card. It sucks to be ill especially during summer. It sounds like you had a nice time with your sister but hammy needs a little kick you know where. I suggest some nice comedy to watch in the eve or a feel-good movie. "Under The Tuscan Sun" is a wonderful film I think. Mrs. Doubtfire is a fun comedy and a long one but a good one.."It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Enjoy making cards and watching a nice comedy

I think I've only managed 3 CAS cards in my lifetime, casing more than that for sure, and you just make lovely look so easy. I learned something from you, that using a bright color as your base fills up CAS! Definitely one reason I visit, to learn from master crafters, but mostly the humor! Came through Memory Box's challenge. Your card stood out among the other colder cards, and I loved the black poinsettia! Great touch with the embossed stitching too! A favorite in the lineup, lady!

Looks like Hammy may be out of a job, as you're creating gorgeous cards without his presence! Your teal card, with a strip of washi adorned with darling, sparkly butterflies: gorgeous! Your 'inside out' take on Chriss' card is stunning! The black poinsettia against the red has such impact, while the gold embossed 'stitching' is a lovely special touch. The number of posts = the number of followers...impressive! See, you are immensely loved! Sending healing thoughts and prayers that you're speeding along to feel 100%!
