Share the Joy With Those Cards!

Greetings!

I hope you are all doing well!

As you can imagine, it seems strangely quiet around here now that NBUS #5 has ended! But even without an active NBUS challenge, I love it when I see you post that you've used some of that NBUS on your creation!

I'm not only using NBUS today, I'm playing in a brand new challenge! Here is my card:
The polka-dotted DSP is from GKW. I scored the top half of the stitched circle from Lil' Inkers. The stitched tag is from My Favorite Things. The NBUS hummingbird stamp is from Taylored Expressions set "Hovering By" and the NBUS sediment is from Paper Smooches set "Sunny Side Up."

If you've been a friend for a long time, you know how much I love hummingbirds and I have to say this hummingbird stamp is awesome! Here is a close-up where you can see the gold embossing and Stella winking:
I watercolored this little cutie with my Ziggies. I've only used them a couple three times and I can see why they get rave reviews.

The  new challenge I mentioned is Taylored Expressions Share Joy Challenge:
For my card, I obviously took a very literal approach to the sketch on the left and, although it is busy with the polka dots, I still think it is CAS.

I was really pleased when Regina emailed me to introduce me to Taylored Expressions new challenge and I've been waiting until after my NBUS Challenge #5 to play along. While all of the card challenges in Blogland encourage us to create card art, the Share Joy Challenge adds an additional emphasis on sending our cards. Here is their mission statement:
At the heart of Taylored Expressions is a passion to share the art and joy of paper crafting. This inspiring weekly challenge is for cardmakers of every level, from beginning to artisan, to express their creative joy. More importantly, the Challenge encourages participants to share that joy with others. Be inspired. Create a card. Send it to someone. Share Joy!
That's right, when you check the rules, you will find this last one: "Send or give your card to a friend, loved one, or someone who could use some joy! Leave a comment on this post telling us who you sent your card to and why."

Of course, you know I love that idea! BTW, your card can be for any occasion!

The card I'm entering today is going to my dear 90-year-old adopted-mom-friend Verna, who is still suffering from a bad fall she took in January. She asked me to make a thank you card for her to give to her great-niece who takes Verna to many doctor appointments.

I hope you will add this new challenge to your list of challenges and join in the Share Joy Challenge!

Card Donations / Pen Pals / Mister

If you do happen to have a stash of cards, don't forget that nursing homes and hospitals and other organizations would be delighted to receive your donation of handmade cards. You can also search for organizations online.

And if you have become friends with other bloggers through your commenting, ask them if they would like to be your "card pen pal." I now have over 100 card pen pals so I never have a card stash! It's a fun and fulfilling experience, not only for me and the hamster, but for The Mister, as well!

In fact, check out the cards he has received since he has become in valid!
He really appreciates the cards and wants me to thank you! They are a bright spot in his day! The poor darling had a birthday Monday, so a few of the cards are birthday cards, but most of them are get well cards. It amazes him that perfect strangers (to him) would do this for him!

Sadly, The Mister's condition has not improved. The next step is to see a blood specialist next week. There is a process involved which apparently takes a lot of time. This is not easy for a motorcycle-riding active man, but I have to say he's being a very good patient. And bless him, he understands my need to escape to the Playhouse now and then to feed the hamster and have some craft therapy! (Thank you all for understanding that my computer time, however, has been severely curtailed.)

Okay. Wait. Where was I?  ...

Challenges

In addition to the Share Joy Challenge, I am entering my card in:
Pixies Crafty Workshop

I made a twofer, but I will post it separately so I can introduce more new friends in that post.

New Friends Corner

I am blessed to have had several talented new friends join the Playhouse! I will be introducing them to you in groups of five so your visits to them are manageable. Thank you for helping me welcome:

Jen of The Other Fickle Pixie (aka Magic Flying Boots). Jen has been blogging since 2009! Let me tell you, she has a VERY impressive and well-deserved list of challenge awards for her amazing CASlicious cards! You will find no end of inspiration here!

Magan Niergarth. Megan has a gallery at Splitcoast Stampers where she is known as MeganBeth. Pull up a chair with a cushion when you go to visit Megan! You will find page after page of beautiful thumbnail card art in her gallery!

Gail Scott of I Like Paper. Gail has been blogging since 2012. She also enjoys entering (and winning!) challenges and serving on design teams. I know you'll have a great time scrolling through Gail's blog where you'll find awesome 3D and altered art projects in addition to her wonderful card art!

Hi, D!!! Oh you know I'm gonna jump on any card with a hummingbird... this one truly is a masterpiece! You know our temperatures will be dropping soon in Michigan...too harsh for these little loves, so sadly ours will be heading to their Winter homes ... wouldn't it be terrific if mine came to your house???!!!
I love the thought behind the T.E. challenge, and as suggested, will definitely check it out! Squeezes to you and the DH!

So sorry to hear about your hubby's lack of improvement. I do hope things turn around for him, and I hope he's not in too much pain. What a lovely and uplifting selection of cards people sent him! Sending hugs and prayers.

Been awhile I am ashamed to say. Wish the Mister a happy birthday for me. I have been tripping all over myself to try to do at least some commenting. When I saw the hummer I slammed on the brakes and almost slid into office door. Love hummers. Have not been able to attract them back for several years. Oh well. I'll never give up. Excellent card. Off to visit your newbies.

Hugs and Blessings

This hummingbird is a real beauty Darnell and I love your zig watercolouring. The green polka dots in the background go beautifully and the tag with the appropriate sentiment for your friend to say thank you to her great-niece finishes it perfectly. I love those enamel dots too which are a great colour match. x
p.s. I have to speak to someone at the company re. the voucher but may not be able to before Monday as there is an exhibition on til then. Didn't want to keep sending you e-mails as you have so much else to be worrying about at present. x

What a wonderful new challenge. I will have to add it to my list. Your hummingbird is so lovely...gold embossing and coloring makes things so elegant. I love that look. So sorry to hear the mister is having difficulties. Keeping good thoughts. Hugs to you as well.

I love hummingbirds and you coloured him so nicely. This card is great and anyone who receives this will love it. Sorry to hear about your hubby. It is tough on them especially when they are so active. It must be tough on you also because you are the main caretaker so you have to tend to what he needs plus men can't handle it as well as women(sorry but they can't). I am glad you can escape to your craft palace a little-take care of you!

Wow, Darnell ... that's one regal hummingbird, all done up in his gold, vibrant and shimmery plumage ... can I just say he's a stunner of a hummer! Just discovered the TESJ challenge too ... sadly haven't squeezed enough time out of the day to play along yet, but with a CAS theme, I can feel that moment coming on ... thanks for the encouragement! Keeping you and Kevin in my daily prayers, my lovely friend ... hope the specialist appt goes well next week. Wish him (Kevin, not the specialist!) a belated happy birthday! Hugs & bisous, bisous, Anita :)

Tell Mister to hang in there and hope y'all get some good news on all that soon.

Great hummingbird card! So glad you get some crafting therapy. Lots of smiles and hugs from MN to you and your Mister! You do bring joy to us in blogland! Thanks.

That shimmery little hummingbird is beautiful against the gold dots! Hummingbirds are always so delicate, and a joy to watch aren't they? We have two hummingbird feeds at our house but we haven't had a single hummer use one this entire year. However, they ARE coming to our flowers, right outside the family room window...so we enjoy them anyway.
So sorry to hear that your husband's clots have not improved with the current medication and I hope they can figure something out. I'm sure it's bad enough trying to heal from the injury and surgery without throwing in a curve ball.

What a gorgeous card. Love that hummingbird--it looks just like the one that lived briefly outside my front door. Sorry to hear about the Mr. Men are never great patients, are they? Glad you are getting some playhouse time as a break from your nursing duties.

Happy Birthday Mister. I hate that he isn't on the mend just yet. I hope your Dr. visit next week goes well and he (or she) has a magic potion for Mister to get better. I'm glad you posted. I have been thinking about you both but I know you have been terribly busy. Love your hummingbird embossed in gold. It gave him such sparkle and I love the polka dots. Please save the sentiment for you both. We are trying to lift you up in thoughts and prayers and hugs. Thanks for introducing us to your great new friends. They are all so talented and it's so nice to meet people from so far away with the same interests. Hang in there.

Darnell that hummingbird is so beautiful! You do need to come visit soon because I have lots of hummingbirds regularly visiting the perennial garden outside my craft room window. I don't think I have ever seen them stay put in one place for so long. I hope that the Mister gets some answers soon.

That sweet little hummer has definitely found his 'home sweet home'...and I know that he will be seeing lots of ink/love! GORGEOUS coloring, GORGEOUS sparkle and GORGEOUS gold embossing! The polkie dots and scored circle are perfect with your sweet, humming fella!

Sure do wish that Mister's leg starts to improve soon. Keeping him off his bike would be almost as impossible as keeping Danny out of his boat...or me away from Bingo! Happy healing wishes Mister!

Haven't been able to join that new challenge yet, but it's been on my list. I do love sending my cards, so it caught my attention since they make that part of it. I need more TE stamps, however, & that hummer is beautiful! Of course, I'd have to figure out how to color like you if I got it--haha! This card will surely be appreciated! Darn it that Mister is not improving--talk about an unhappy birthday! Hoping that changes very soon!

Darnelle, how are you petal? Going well I hope. I LOVE your card, the polka dots the half circle with the lines and other half plain are perfect then we have your humming bird. I have some humming bird stamps that I have never used, now I want to give it a go. It looks so good. Are they true colours?
Went to the other blogs and now a follower of another one.
Hope the Mister is going okay, must be so hard just having to take it easy all the time and hard for you to keep it happy and light. Men dont make the best patients.
I wondered can I become a penpal, I've never had a penpal for snail mail any way. If your too busy dont worry but I would like to send a birthday card next year if thats ok.

Hi Darnell-
First I want to say - a lovely card creation! I love the hummingbird and that tag!! I am a tag freak and often use them on my card creations - I have all sizes in die cuts! Such a beautiful stamp!

Secondly - I am very sorry your husband is having a health challenge - I do wish him the best and Pray that his condition improves and he can get back on that Harley - well that is what my son drives these days and my hubby had a Goldwing - husband has since 'retired' from driving motorcycles. May God grand your husband a safe and fast recovery.

Third - I am so honored you did a bit of write up on my blog - my goodness that is such a blessing and truly a honor! Thank you so very much for that thoughtful invite to others to come and check out my blog -

I wish you the best life has to offer and above all else to be in good health and prosper - have a lovely day - Blessings - Gail Scott

I have resolved to actively use stuff I have been neglecting!! Thank you so much once again
