Hello there!
I hope you enjoyed the first full week of the brand spankin' new year! I was so hoping it wouldn't whoosh by, but it did.
And I hope this isn't the last time I'll see you and hear from you!
Wait. What?
You may have already heard that Google is going to start the process of cleaning out and streamlining how people access Blogger.
If I understand it correctly, that means if you don't have a Google account and you follow me via the blue "Join This Site" button (Google Friend Connect), you will be dropped as a follower as of Monday, January 11, 2016. (It may not happen prezackly on Monday, but over time.)
That also means you won't be able to comment, which will make me very sad! Right now when you leave a comment, you may see these "identity" choices:

That also means you won't be able to comment, which will make me very sad! Right now when you leave a comment, you may see these "identity" choices:
or you may have more identity options, like this:
or if the blog you are visiting doesn't have a pop-up box for comments, your identity profile options might look like this:
I'm not for sure if the ONLY way you can leave a comment in the future is by the first choice of a "Google account," but I know some of those other options are disappearing. So just to be safe, if you set up a Google account, you will be able to leave comments on anybody's blog.
ETA: Nan writes that it is only the ability to follow that will be affected and not the ability to leave comments. That's not what I've been reading, but it's a relief to know if that's how this pans out! She suggests having a Bloglovin link on our side bars, which I already do, as a way for people to follow instead.
The problem is I don't know how to "see" who follows me that way to introduce friends to friends in my New Friends Corner, or monitor my NBUS Challenge or giveaways, so I'm hoping people will still follow the "old-fashioned" way. If someone knows how I can see who follows me via Bloglovin or Feedly, I'd love to know. Thanks for all your suggestions and advice!

What You Can Do
Setting up a Google account is free and easy and I hope you will take a minute to do that now so that nothing will change between us when Monday rolls around!
Go to https://accounts.google.com/signup. The signup page will look like this:
Simples. As far as I know this does NOT mean you have to sign up for Google PLUS +. I sure hope that's not what it means as a lot of us don't want that. Please let me know if you have any problems with signing up. I would hate to lose you as a follower and I will truly miss your wonderful comments!
I even made you a card to say there are ten things I love about you and that I love hearing from you!
I embossed the card with a "Next Level" 3D embossing folder by We R Memory Keepers and attached little heart stickers in the indentations. I made the heart stickers by running a sticker sheet through my BS using the PTI "Notched Hearts" banner die. I colored the little hearts using my SU poppy parade marker. The NBUS telephone die is from My Favorite Things called "Ring Me." I hand made the numbers and used a piece of confetti as the cord. The center heart and the charm were in my stash.
As it happens, City Crafter is having a "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" challenge, which fits this post perfectly! And at The Paper Players, Joanne has a theme challenge of "All About Numbers."

ReplyDeleteAnne
A great card - love it. Hopefully Google will settle down, but I have noticed a lot of bloggers have comments on losing followers already. I follow you with a Google account, so I'll still be here!
ReplyDeleteKath x
Hi Darnell, thanks for keeping us all aware of this change on blogger! Your card is so wonderful I loved the gorgeous background too! :)
ReplyDeleteSuchi xx

ReplyDeleteLovely card there. You must have patience of a saint to put all those hearts in the dents!!!
Hugs

Thanks for this helpful information , Darnell. Your card is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this helpful information , Darnell. Your card is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteEeeep! I need to tell my tiny handful of followers about this soon - like in the next two days!! Xx
ReplyDeleteYour card is lovely Darnell. Love that phone. I think (and hope) I'll still be with you. Barbxx
ReplyDeleteSuper lovely card :-) I think I will be ok but I am waiting to see what exactly this will do. I have a Google account so should be alright !! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteI saw that Google thing elsewhere...but pretty much have ignored it...hoping most other peeps are members so it won't make too much difference. Oh, why is life always changing? Rhetorical. LOVE the telephone card. Don't see them much these days either. The young ones probably wouldn't know what it was!!!
ReplyDeleteOh what a fabulous card for the challenge!! I love it! Thanks so much for playing along at CCCB!!
ReplyDeleteOh no Google is at it again? Thankfully I have a google account so you will still see me... BTW setting up a Paypal A/c is so easy too ... That way transferring funds to you is easy peasy ... just sayin'
Have a lovely day!
Your telephone card is adorable, Darnell! I'm a googler so hopefully, I'll still be around. I love your idea of giving things away. You've got my hamster wheels turning now too on how to downsize my crafty space. Thanks for an always uplifting experience!! :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for explaining this change in Google procedure Darnell and I have a feeling that I may lose one or two because I seem to have several who I cannot visit so maybe they will disappear. I love your telephone card and the pretty embossed background with the little hearts and the additional sentiment heart works really well. x
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell! Thanks for the heads-up on this change as I had no clue that it was happening. I follow you through Feedly as I don't have a Google Plus account (do have google, but not google +). Hopefully, all you will need is a google account and will not be req'd to have the +.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful the telephone die looks!! Those hearts in the background make it all the more gorgeous
ReplyDeleteCheers
Dr Sonia
Love the card Darnell.
ReplyDeleteSure hope the Blogger issue don't cause too much hassle.
Hope you have a fab Friday and a lovely weekend. Sue
Cute card!! Love the embossing
ReplyDeleteGreat card, Darnell! I hope I've got everything sorted via Google as I'd hate not to be able to comment whenever I visit. Fingers crossed, Jo x
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping those of us who are already committed to Google accounts will not experience any hiccups starting on Monday. :) I have a feeling my daughters would look at the phone on this card and say...didn't you say you used to have those strange looking phones when you were growing up, Mom? You know the dial would throw them off, right? Kids. Hmph! I think your card looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWowza this is gorgeous, Darnell! I love the embossed background and the telephone is amazing! Always so happy to see your card in the gallery at The Paper Players!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Googler ... so I am safe! LOL! I love love love your card! The phone is soooooooooo fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you could translate the Googlespeak for all of us. I wasn't sure what they were saying.
ReplyDeleteJust read your post on clearing out your schtuff. I hate organizing; ;I'd rather be making cards so I let stuff pile up. Just getting rid of stuff might be the best way to go about it. I hope you'll let us know how it's working for you.
DONT PANIC! Peeps will be able to comment even if they do not have a Google account! Google is shutting down its "reader" that's all. It's a gigant corporation's way of intimidation to scare peeps into opening a Google account. Anyone using Bloglovin, Feedly or other reader app will be able to read and leave comments. Or those who are on your email notification list. What this means to you Darnell .. Is it will be more difficult to see who has started following you. Only those with a Google account will be able to use the 'join this blog' on your side bar. Maybe offer a Bloglovin link instead on your sidebar. Hope this calms everyone's jitters over this scare tactic.
ReplyDeleteHello Darnell! thank you for the information as I was not aware of it! but anyhow I have a Google account so it should not be a problem! what a lovely card! and I so miss these phones!!! I wish we could bring them back with a modern twist! xoxo Olga
ReplyDeleteHappy New year Darnell. I am with Google so fingers crossed. Love your telephone card with the fab quilted background and sweet charm. We used to have a telephone just like this only in blue, in fact I think Jim still has it stored away somewhere. It was really funky back in the day lol.I was definitely nodding along to your comment about CPR I think I might show it to Jim (a hoarder) though that might possibly require him to NEED CPR!!. Hugs Lottie x
ReplyDeleteYou can't get rid of me that easily! In fact, you can't get rid of me at all! I'm here to stay, Google muck ups or not! So there you have it. Glad you posted this as I'm sure there are many folks who are unsure what the heck is going on...me included, but being all Googlafied, I should be safe. Card. Gorgeous. LOVE that embossing folder. I'm pretty sure I'll "need" that for my collection.... And that sweet little phone. Gosh that's the cutest thing! Will shoot you a little email in a bit and chat. But I do love your phone card. Smashing for those challenges. Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Bev
ReplyDeleteFabulous card Darnell :o)
ReplyDeleteHope you've had a great start to 2016!

ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping us all so well deformed...

Oooohhh!!! This telephon card is just AMAZING!!! Stunning, impressive, spectacular!... I have never seen one as it! Love, love it so much! The embossing is just perfect for it!!
ReplyDeleteYour phone card is amazing. Takes me back to grannie's farm phone with the party line shared with the neighbours. My how phones have changed... everyone packing a cell phone. Speaking of change, Google is certainly causing some troubles. Hopefully we don't lose any followers. :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable "throw-back" phone! Love it...
ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderfully creative card, Darnell--one of my favorites! I've just been ignoring all the talk about Blogger & hoping nothing bad happens with my followers, but I don't have so many like you. So much for no new stuff--I'm checking out your list--haha!
ReplyDeleteI should hopefully be able to keep following you and commenting but like you I'm not sure how it's going pan out either.
ReplyDeleteAmazing card x
I love this Darnell! The perfect background for the cute phone and I love the hearts added! I have an old Sizzix phone die, similar and for some reason, they just make a gal happy... cuz I had rotary phones growing up I'm sure! lol TFS!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Darnell this is as cute as can be! Love how you added the hearts to the embossed areas--stinkin' clever! Love that big rotary dial too--I still remember using those, lol! Thank you for joining in the fun at The Paper Players!
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I already have a Google account so I won't miss a thing.
ReplyDeleteNot to be greedy, but only 10 things. When I think about you it's many more than ten. Too numerous to count. Enoough of the love fest.
You just keep getting cleverer and cleverer. Confetti for a cord, making your own heart stickers, the list goes on. Such a fantastic card. I smell another winner.
Thankfully, back in the day when we both started blogging, it was done through Google from my end. I do wish they would not mess around with us like this, it really annoys me!
ReplyDeleteYour card is beautiful (as always) and I am off now to write down the 10 things I love about you, but I think there may be more than 10!!! Big hugs, Annie xxx
LOVE that cool phone Darnell! I remember having one like that ;) I'm a Google follower, so I'll still be here! Have a lovely evening! Hazel xx
ReplyDeleteMy Card Attic
Cute card! I have a google account so hopefully none of this will impact me:)
ReplyDeleteThat phone card is da bomb - love it!
ReplyDeleteLove that phone card, so cute with those lil hearts all over that fab embossed part. On bloglovin just click to follow yourself and you can see who else is following. You can do it multiple times to keep tabs. (just unfollow and refollow)
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell! I'm back from my trip so I'm able to comment again. I do have a Google account, so hopefully nothing will change. Love your telephone card with all the pretty little hearts! So cute!
ReplyDeleteGoogle keeps us on our toes :) But I already have a Google account so I will be around LOL. Yiour car dis spot on our theme. I love that hpone! Thank you joining us this week at CCCB! Always a pleasure to have you with us!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY NEW YEAR, Darnell! I can't begin to tell you how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this card!!!!!! I spent many hours on a phone just like this one. IF I received this card in the mail, I would frame it! SO happy you joined us at The Paper Players this week! XX
ReplyDeletePhone a friend Darnell, they may have some advice for you!
ReplyDeleteYou won't loose me that easily that's for sure.
Great card.
Kath x
Happy New Year to you Darnell! What a fun card - I love the telephone and cute charm and the effect of the quilted background, it reminds me of a comfy pillow!! Thanks for joining in with my number challenge over at The Paper Players this week!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, good job I have a google account, although I didn't look at it. I was thinking about new stash from looking at a challenge and you popped into my head! I thought I better see what was happening, and I see I have missed a lot but then again I am having a really tough time right now.
ReplyDeleteCarol x
Love this retro telephone card, which looks exactly like the one I grew up with. Aren't you clever to use a confetti die cut as the curly cord...I love using supplies in imaginative ways! Adding those teeny hearts to the embossing folder is another really creative way to stretch your supplies, although I don't know that I would have the patience to color each one. A huge pat on the back for using up some stuff from your stash!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to the Knauss family.
Love your embossing. Looks like one of those posh button backed headboards or a Chesterfield sofa.
I've had a couple of followers disappear this week already so hopefully there will be no more.
Best wishes.
Ang x
I've just added you on Bloglovin', I do read their daily reports from time to time!
ReplyDeleteYou won't be getting rid of me Darnell :-) Love your tele-funkin card, especially all the hearts.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing all your new and fabulous creations this coming year, and hearing of all Hammy's adventures - and how his family progresses with their training :-)
Blessings
Maxine
THANK YOU THANK YOU for the explanation - I thought it was just me!!!
ReplyDeleteA long time ago I had to open a Google account to leave messages on some blogs. Truly, you can open one and pretty much ignore it and life is fine and no one forces you to be Googly +.
ReplyDeleteOnce you have a Google account then one day you might get your panties in a twist and decide to start your own blog. That way lies madness though. Just Sayin'!
Love that card! Great old fashioned phone. I really like that embossed background. It looks so quilted. Very nice!
I don't like this continuous changes in our peaceful craft world! I hope it would not cause a lost of followers and comments. Thank you for the sweet card with telephone. If there will be anything new, I will let you know. :-)) Sorry for my late comment. A lot of things have happened lately. I have admired your dragon shaker card in your last post. It is just great. :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Hugs, Sonja
Thanks for the information Darnell, I have already lost many who followed me. Love the embossing background, heart and super cute phone.
ReplyDeleteHugs Diane
Thanks for this "update." I follow your blog via email, so hopefully that won't change. But I'll keep an eye out and if I don't see you for a couple of weeks, I'll assume things changed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update Darnell!! I didn't know all this and it is SUCH A PAIN when they try and "fix" or clean up stuff. I like it the way it is. I follow you via bloglovin so I should be okay. LOVE the fun phone that you created with the little metal tag. Great design!!
ReplyDeleteI have a google account so I should be good to go! I wish things wouldn't be messed with as it just send some of us in a dizzy trying to make sure we are doing the right thing. lol If it ain't broken, don't fix it! Oh well, like I said I think I am good to go plus I follow by email and bloglovin. Yes, the new year is already whooshing by. Ready for spring, but not for the year to go by to fast. lol Love the card Auntie, so cute and of course I am so loving those embossing folders. I have two, but of course they are NBUS! Need to get on that don't I?! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteI must have been living under a Blogger rock, so thanks for the update! I think most people use other blog readers over Google now anyway, but I agree, it's unfortunate not to be able to see who the followers actually are. But on to your card, which is just right in so many ways!
ReplyDeleteNot only do I have a google account, I get your posts the old fashioned way, via email, because I don't even know how to use the other way. . . lol! So I hope I ill continue to see you in my inbox daily and to be able to comment, I know I don't comment often, but I read each post and love them all. Thanks for brightening my days!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Maureen
What an adorable card! That phone is absolutely darling with the "hearty" background!
ReplyDeleteEWWEWeWeeee! I had nor heard about the weird Gooogle stuff. You are awesome to lay out all of that info! I'm not going to trip on it until Monday... I remember staying up until midnight on Y2K waiting for everything to stop working... and the only thing that had to be tossed was the 1999 calendar:)
ReplyDeleteI definitely would not want to miss your blogs and creative cards. The funny thing is I have a Google account, but never check it to messages. I only use it because I need it for these blogs. I've survived like this for a while and I'm hoping I'll survive longer with only a tidbit of technical know-how.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your card, Darnell! The old fashion telephone is so cute!!
ReplyDeleteHope I continue to show up as one of your followers~I am a Google Account holder!
PS: Don't know why, but I hate "change" lately ~ sign of an old person, perhaps?
I think I'm good. Seriously, why can't they just leave well enough alone. Someone got "bright idea" I suppose ~ ugh!! Love the quilted look on your pretty card!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Darnell, I second Lisa's comment, why do this people have to make things complicated for us. If it ain't broken, don't fix it!!! Just live it alone, for goodness sake.
ReplyDeleteI have a google account so I will still see your fabulous cards and I hope you can see my blog too.
Love this phone card, what a great idea for both challenges.
Many hugs.
Maria.
What a cute card! I think some days I'd love to have an old phone like that again, because they WORKED! I refuse to sign up for google plus, so hopefully I'll still be following you when Monday rolls around! I think I already have a google account, but I'll know soon enough if I do or don't! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour card is super cute, Darnell! You are so kind to offer some of your stash to other crafters. I know you will bring smiles to many faces.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this Darnell, it is all quite annoying isn't it. I love this little phone, I would quite like a phone like this at home, have a fun weekend xx
ReplyDeleteLove the phone and all the dimension! Only 10 things?
ReplyDeleteI think I'll still be here ..... you don't get rid of me that easily!! Love the telephone .... so much dimension. Enjoy your weekend xx
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Darnell, and what a fit "good-bye" for your telephone die ... I see you were one of the winners at The Paper Players. Darling card. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous telephone card! I have a google account so I will still be here! xxx
ReplyDeleteIsn't technology wonderful? Maybe Good is doing CPR. ;) But I do have a Google account so no worries there. So you're giving away a telephone die but have another one? Now I see why you have to do CPR. ;) Love the quilted background with the hearts.
ReplyDeleteOh, Darnell ... a telephone ... how perfectly timed is that?? And it's all warm and cosy in it's comfy quilted background! Wait till you see what I have to post later ... it's also a little something with tiny red hearts ... are we communicating over the ether d'you thunk?! I'm a very happy Feedly follower, mon amie ... and will be sticking around forever! Bon dimanche when it arrives with you, hugs & bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThat quilted BG looks so great! And to use a thelephone to use numbers; how did you get to that idea; it's so perfect!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I now I'm on google (don't want to go to google+) and the bloglovin followers I have to go to bloglovin to see them; luckely that most of them are on google too and follow me the "old" way...
Hope you have a good weekend, hugs, Gerrina
Grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble... WHY Google?! WHY?! I'm wondering if you would allow me to steal your explanation, because it is written so well?
ReplyDeleteOn another note - your card is oh-so-chic! It reminds me of a 1950s movie with the ever-glamorous Audrey Hepburn. Love the pincushioned heart background.
Thanks for the info on google...somethings I try to ignore but it doesn't always serve me well. The shaker kite card is fabulous. hugs Carole
ReplyDeleteI think I will be snle to stay following you as my blog is through google too! Lovely card to keep in touch!
ReplyDeleteDelightful and beautiful creation. Colours and combination are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIn regard to google account I had to do a new blog, as you know, as google plus butted into my old blog, changed things which I found impossible to reverse and now when I comment I have to verify stupid pictures....why do have have to meddle with our lovely hobby....xxx {aNNie}
I hadn't heard about Google, may I borrow the info if needed? I LOVE < LOVE your card Darnell, that phone is adorable! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great explanation. I love Google friend connect. As you say, it has that lovely feature of iding your followers.
ReplyDeleteYour telephone card is superb. I love that di. Your desing is so perfect with this die!!!
I adore your phone card, Darnell...love that whole dial-a-number thing, still! Thanks for the info about the Google shenanigans; fingers crossed I'm safe, since I am, to use Bev's word, googlified!
ReplyDeleteHugs~c
Just thinking about your comment on my blog, and about the way inspiration works - I see something on another blog, take inspiration from it and make something completely different but obviously inspired by it... somebody sees it and takes inspiration from it and moves off in a slightly different direction and so on, it's like a game of Chinese Whispers with the idea moving on but the result changing completely every time. Isn't creativity a wonderful thing, you never know where it will take you?
ReplyDeleteAnd given that it's not even 8.30 am here and I've not had my second cup of tea yet, that is WAY too much philosophication for one day!
Jane
Hi Darnell,
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful card, and thank you so much for thinking of your blogging buddies.
I have heard a few whispers about this google thing so as you say only time will tell how many of our wonderful friends we may loose.
Hopefully none.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my blog, and your well wishes for my DH.
I do hope you and your family are all keeping well.
A very Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Not good by from me! Oh my ...how I love this darling quilted card with that big phone! Soon the kids will be asking what that is. Love the tiny red hearts in each quilt...so pretty!
ReplyDeleteEek! That phone is fabulous!! Your confetti cord is genius and I love the sparkly heart in the middle. The background you created is gorgeous too. Love love love!
ReplyDeleteFabulous card - love that "antique" telephone! Don't worry, I won't disappear - I'm a google person :)
ReplyDeleteYou got that wonderful embossing folder! That thing is so cool. As to your bloglovin' followers, I think you can see them

Fabulous card Darnell. Love the sweet giraffes and swoops. Ahh, sequins...hope they were easily collected and returned to their home :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the giraffes! They are my fave animal right now!
ReplyDelete
