Hi, hello, how are you?
I hope all is well! I didn't mean to be gone that long, sorry. The days are no longer whooshing by, they're warpspeeding by!
Not much has happened except that the Mister nearly cut the end of one of his ginfers off using a Mandolin to slice potatoes on Saturday night. It was only the second time it's been out of the cupboard since we bought it three years ago. (You know, sort of like my NBUS crafting supplies!)
The Mandolin is a really cool tool ~ as long as you use the guard that comes with it. You know, the one that was sitting right there next to the machine. Poor Mister. He's had a rough year. Four hours in the emergency room and some glue and he was good to go, except for feeling like a moron.
"No need to be embarrassed," said every medical professional we saw from the moment we walked in until we walked out, "we get at least one of these a week!" Needless to say, the instrument of horror was boxed back up and stowed away again without use.

I badly needed a card fix yesterday and remembered a few challenges that I wanted to make a card for earlier in the week. So I made this:
Simples, but fun. Using a pretty soft suede paper in my specialty stash, I die-cut the word celebrate from Winnie & Walter. The stars were stenciled using a stencil handmade by my friend Lolly (thank you!). The "you" is from The Alley Way Stamps. The clear star bling is from SU.
Do you sometimes pronounce the pee in raspberry just for the fun of it? Or say low-q-a-shus for loquacious?

Challenges
- Addicted to Stamps and More: CAS. (Nearly at their 200th Challenge, so congratulations since I may not be able to join in for that celebration!)
- CAS Mix-Up Challenge: Stamping + Die Cut + Your Choice (stenciling).
- CASology: "Congratulations." I'm thinking celebrate can be interchanged with congratulate?
- Color Throwdown: See below. (Nearly at their 400th Challenge, so congratulations since I may not be able to join in for that celebration either!)
- The Paper Players: Celebrating their 300th Challenge! Congratulations!
This is the perfect opportunity for me to say thank you to all the wonderful challenges we have up and down and all around the streets of Blogland! Thank you to all the hundreds of design team members and guest designers who work very hard to keep us enthused and challenged and inspired! Mwah!

My trip prep is going well and I'm keeping a keen eye on the history-making events occurring in the UK at the moment. I'm already beginning to quiver with becitement even though I have 23 days to go before I leave. Quivering makes everything from typing to tying my shoes very difficult! I need to remind Hammy that he is here to settle me down at times like this, not just color in his adult coloring books from Hamster's Handiwork. He also needs to start thinking about what he wants to pack for himself since I can't very well go without him!

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!* I hope your first days of summer are filled with sunshine!
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Ohhh my goodness a first I think. First to comment, of course thats of course if I dont take too long. Wonderful card, love all those stars around the die cutword. There are lots of brilliant challenges around arent there, sometimes too many to pick from. I end up pro crasti nate ing too long. So exciting going to England especially with their latest decision not to seperate from Europe. So much happening, it will effect so many things, amazed today when the prime minister said he was resigning, our dollar plummeted even more (dont know why it effects our dollar, will have to read up on that ) but we are already so low. But of course that means we are brilliant to visit, so keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteDelightful card, Darnell. I sure like the happy vibes coming from it and the bright and fun colors. Well done! So sorry to hear about the mister. Gosh, he has had a bit of a time of it. Maybe it's time to donate that thing! I'm very excited for you about your trip. Time flies and also drags for you I'll bet. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. :) Hugs!
ReplyDeleteFirst, let me say your card is pretty special...simple and yet very creative, and the colors make me happy! That "celebrate" just sings across your card! Second, tell DH that I, too, just almost cut off my finger with my new-to-me mandolin! Of course, I had been yelling at my DH to quit nagging me to use the guard....I always put it on close to the end....well, it was a little closer to the end of my thumb than I realized! No stitches but boy, does it hurt!
ReplyDeleteDarnell, your card is brimming with happy and celebration, and is perfect for your chosen challenges. I love the diagonal feel of the card and your stars are perfectly stenciled. Enjoy your trip prep and travel safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell! My Dad was very strict about "proper" pronuciation so I don't play with words - but I get a kick out of your wordplay! Why is that darned "p" in Raspberry if we don't pronounce it anyway?d Love the card - so pretty with all the stars. Have a great day! Hope your Mister gets healed up soon.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your happy and bright card Dolly! Great job with stenciling, and beautiful mix of colours. Love the texture on your card base.
ReplyDeleteAs always, it's a delight to read your blog and always a puzzle with how your mind works. :) I know I'm going to be saying ras-p-berry many, many times today --- thanks for that! :)
Sorry to hear about Mister. It really has been a tough year for him ... poor guy!
Thanks so much for sharing your fun and cheerful card with us at CAS Mix Up! Lolly xx
Just realized that I should have signed my comment as Lolly Thom-p-son! Have a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteGreat card Darnell!
ReplyDeleteMan-do-lynn has been know to shave many finger prints off in this house.......LOL!!! It took me YEARS to realize that little tool thingy is an important tool for slicing and dicing! Now I have a processor with a guard for the fingers. :)
Glad to hear your preparations are starting to pull together for your pond jumping trip. Yes, I've been keeping an eye on the news too.........and praying.
Give all my best to all our bloggy friends there for me.
Wonderful starry card - I love it - so perfect!! All of us who know YOU - definitely CELEBRATE you!!! Have an awesome day and sorry about the mister's finger!! Keep happy!!
ReplyDeleteA perfect way to celebrate with a bright happy card! My mother has used superglue forever to hold skin together.....she was ahead of her time! Have a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the poor Mister, this is really an unlucky year for him!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful CAS as always, lovely colours and the stenciled stars look great!
I never could understand why that 'p' is in raspberry... our Canadian visitors went home thinking that nearly every word here had a silent 'something or other' in it!
ReplyDeleteYour card is an absolute delight Darnell and brightens up a very dull day (not the weather this time). Referendum, resignation, uncertainly is what we have to look forward to here - I wish there was a whole silent 'word' in Politician... lol. Hugs, Annie xxx
Well, I guess I am behind the times because I thought a mandolin was a musical instrument and I HOPE there is no pee in my raspberries!!! But with 20 cats, 1 dog, and 7 chickens, who knows? :) I hope Mister heals quickly and is back to plucking a mandolin (that's the kind for preparing roast duck, I guess) instead of slicing himself with it!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you to have this epic trip to England! Thanks for sharing your pretty card. I have lost my mojo completely. My blog is dead. But it gives me hope that I will find the missing mojo again soon when I see bright and happy colors like you used on your card. Hooray!

PS.....I do say the "K" in k-nee and k-nock just for the fun of it. :)
Oh, dear! Poor Mister! I am sure that really hurt too! But I must say I do love the card that you created. Gorgeous colors and love the stars on it. It certainly does look like a fun celebration card.
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor Mister! I have one of those too and it sits in the closet. I have a mini one too and it sits under the cupboard. Sigh I just feel like I can do the slicing faster with my knife cause by the time I drag out the gadget and set it set up, I could have already hand sliced whatever I was going to slice. Make sense? Yeah, I know, it doesn't. lol I would pass them down to someone but don't really know anyone who will use them. I do use the little one once in a while and like that one better since it is a mini sized one. I don't slice tomatoes in even slices, so that's why I got them. But since I'm not slicing for anyone else, I don't care if they are even or not. lol Ok, moving on here....Love the card! Simple but oh so festive! Love the colors you used too. Yay, so glad the trip stuff is going along smoothly. What is Hammy waiting for, he'd better get packed soon or else everything he will want to take will be in the wash! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear from you but NOT with the news that The Mister has has another oopsie. Wow! I, personally, use and love my mandoline but the slicing guard is usually firmly planted in my hand. So very sorry he got hurt, they're aren't anything you should fool with...yikes! Still, glad that he didn't lose a digit. Having had knife accidents, myself, know how bad they can be and equally embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteYour card certainly is fresh and cheerful. Love the texture on that diecut and those pretty stars. Very happy.
Good that your trek prep is coming along well...bet your excited. I know I'd be.
A lovely bright and beautiful card.
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous post and no I have never pronounced those two words like that, will have to practice.
Yes it has been a bit of hectic time here and I have to say that I am pleased with the results, not that it really effects us at our age but you have to think of the Grandchildren and as the song says, The children are our future.
Have a great weekend.
Kath x
Hmmm, the only mandolin I know is a musical instrument, and from the sound of the Mister's confrontation with yours, I'll just keep it that way! How is the poor guy going to keep body and soul together when you and Hammy are traipsing all over the UK?! Who will raise their eyebrow when he forgets to use the Mandolin guard?
ReplyDeleteYour happy little card is just the thing to clear the cobwebs and give your creativity a boost...and to help inspire all of us. Just thinking of Hammy scribbling in his adult coloring book makes me giggle, but I worry about his being able to fit his hamster wheel into carry-on luggage. Glad you were able to take a break from your travel plans to play in your Playhouse, if only for an hour.
Aww poor Mister really has had a rough time. I hope there's a lock on the box so he can't use it while you're on vacation! Gorgeous card, as always xxx
ReplyDeleteYour a star with this card, Darnell, (Hammy too)! Love that sueded celebrate and the bright, pretty sponged stars too! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at CAS Mix Up!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the Mister...I hope he heals well and quickly (his finger and ego, that is)!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fabulous CAS card, Darnell! Your suede paper was such a great choice for your die cut sentiment, and I love the colors you chose for your stenciled stars! So happy you played along with us this week at ATSM! We always enjoy seeing your beautiful creations in the gallery!
Fabulous card! Love those colorful stars.
ReplyDeleteOuch! I hope the finger heals quickly for Mister. I'm glad you didn't have to use a Mandolin to die cut the beautiful suede, Darnell. The stenciled stars really 'shine'.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that the Mister had a mishap with the Mandolin. They are lethal! We got rid of ours a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteGreat CAS card - love the design with all those celebration stars. xx
I love your 'celebrate' card Darnell, and the stars stencilled in all those pretty colours go beautifully with the gorgeous green of the die cut sentiment. The mister has had a year to remember for all the wrong reasons and hope his finger soon heals. x
ReplyDeleteOMG poor Kevin. Love your CAS card and the soft colors. Have a good week end. BBB
ReplyDeleteMy big miss pro nunciation is lah ZAGH nah (lasagna), unlike your loquacioius and raspberry :)
ReplyDeletePoor Kevin - he has had a rough year of sorts, but I know he'll now have a healthy respect for that mandolin ----- if indeed he ever uses it again!
I like this festive celebration card with all of the stars, sparkle, and happiness written all over it! Have a great weekend!
What a year the Mister has had. Hope all better soon.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card thanks for sharing with us and happy packing!
I am glad that Mister is okay. Mandolins are very dangerous-why I don't have one!! LOVE your pretty card. The different color stars are stunning!!
ReplyDeleteGosh I so love your card Darnell! As always, your post made me grin but not the bit about the Mister playing with the mandolin - eek. Made my knees go all funny feeling - hope he heals soon and that you hide that thing before leaving for the UK!
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs
Di xxx
So glad you took some time to create and what a sweet card you made!
ReplyDeleteAnd you gotta keep an eye or two on the Mister, especially in the kitchen it seems!
Hugs,
Susanne
Darnell,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made time to create this fun card! Gotta say W&W big, bold sentiments are all-time favorites in my stash. (No NBUS when it comes to those!)
Also glad to hear Mister is okay. Talk about scary, huh?!

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the Mister :( but glad to hear he's OK. Love your bright and cheerful celebration card. I'm pleased that you managed to fit in some crafty time between all the prep. Have a wonderful week-end!
ReplyDeleteuh ha, poor Mister - sounds like me when I fell recently and ended up at ED - so embracing!! Thanks for the warning about the mak-hine, I will neva buy one!
ReplyDeleteLove your card Darnell - so cheerful and happy - hope your craft fix quelled the quivering.
Blessings
Maxine
Another great card! Glad everyone is OK! Never a dull moment! Good to know that your Mister is once again, on the mend!
ReplyDeleteSuper CAS card Darnell!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty and happy celebration card Darnell - makes me want to put on my dancing shoes! Love the CAS design.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the Mister's mishap and hope he feels better soon.
Loved the card ,cheerful colors and perfect for guys too :)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the potato slicer incident !I could totally understand as not a week goes that I don't have my finger under the knife.sometimes escapes just with a slice of nail and sometimes not ;)
Hi Darnell :o)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Mister's incident. I hope he'll get well in a warpspeed. :o)
STUNNING CAS card!!!Fabulous design, beautiful paper, pretty colors... Love love love everything!!
I wish you an awesome day. Hugs!!
Milka xx
Hi Darnell, Loving the lovely bright coloured card.
ReplyDeleteOUCH! I hope your hubby's finger isn't too painful.
Hope the weather is nice when you visit here. At the moment the temps aren't bad and we are getting some sunshine, but also a fair bit of rain. It's more like April weather than June.
Hope you have a lovely weekend. Sue
Not long now. Hope the Hubby stays away from all forms of torture or kitchen equipment til you go!!! Want him & Hammy both well;).... Love your card. CAS is the bomb, I say!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card!! My son has one of those mandolins also and you guessed it, he cut his finger. Of course he wasn't using the guard either
ReplyDeleteThat's always been my concern about using a mandolin. Hope the Mister recovers quickly.
ReplyDeleteLove your bright cheerful card. I have to make "stars" card for a swap, and I may figure out a way to CASE this.
Love your card, it's zingy! Hubby is known to regularly attempt to maim himself at work. That's why his little finger no longer bends after they had to do a sling graft. Interesting times in the UK, apparently "May you live in interesting times" is an old Chinese curse. We the pound dropping you might be able to stock up on more craft stuff whilst you're over here! Cara x
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic CAS congratulations card. Love your color choices. Thanks so much for playing along at CASology this week.
ReplyDeleteOh dear poor Mister! He's certainly had a rough year! Hope his finger is healing nicely. Lovely card Darnell , suitable for so many occasions.
ReplyDeleteJuly will soon be here - whoop, whoop!
Absolutely right on for CASology this week Darnell! Love this sweet celebratory card! The colours and the perfect sentiment! Oh poor Mister, the mandolin can be such a beast. I have heard so many sad tales about people who don't use the guard! Hope it heals up quickly, tell him not to be too hard on himself. I spent 6 hours in emergency an year ago because I almost cut my finger off when I was making a salad with a really sharp knife and not paying attention! Fortunately I still have all digits, but that wasn't the first time I had done that!!
ReplyDelete...and thank you for sharing with us at CASology this week!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell
ReplyDeleteSee, this is what happens when you let fellas loose in an unfamiliar environment (kitchen) with their unnatural love of gadgets!
Is he safe to leave for 3 weeks on his own, with only a tin opener and microwave for company?
Beautifully composed card and I'm intrigued by the thought of suede card. I've achieved something similar in heavy handed attempts to remove unwanted splodges.
Looking forward to meeting up over a burger and milkshake.
Ang x
Ps.....in answer to your questions, no and no. Lol!
I'm so glad to hear that Hammy is coming over with you too. Can't wait to meet him. And you of course!!!!!!! Your not going to be talking all proper are you. What does loquacious mean anyway. Suitcase is down out of the loft and I'm busy buffing up the crown jewels. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteLove the very fun card! So sorry Mister got snagged by the mandolin. I hope he will be healed by the time you and Hammy leave. Glad to hear your packing is going smoothly. If you're like me, you'll take everything but the kitchen sink. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteYikes!! Poor Mister! They used glue to fix him up huh? You could have just squeezed some Glossy Accents on there and skipped the ER altogether!
ReplyDeleteLove the card (that suede paper looks so cool) and I know what you mean about needing a card fix - I haven't been in the Craft Cave since Monday and I'm getting the itch...
I usually end up spitting unintentionally when I pronounce the p in raspberry. I do, however, pronounce "plaid" like "played" - cos plaid, laid, maid, paid!
Poor Mister!! Are you sure he'll be ok when your gone? I love your card and your post and I'm realising that you're as mad as me... Just that you write it better! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteAw poor Mister he's been in the wars again !hope he's feeling better and love those bright and cheery colours you can feel the celebrations popping off your card!!x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card. Oh dear, poor mister but it could have been worse. At least he is in the kitchen doing something, my hubby is very 'kitchen challenged'. I hope you are doing well, Hugs xxx ps.. it's been super busy around here, not much time for the craft room or blogging...
ReplyDeleteHeel soon pour the Mister and love the bright colours you used for the card; they make it such a cheerfull one! It looks like someone here is also speeding up time...so many hours short in every day... Hugs, Gerrina
ReplyDeleteOoooh poor hubs hope he's not in too much pain...your card is lovely as always the style and colours used along with the star's truly is beautiful xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and vibrant celebration on a card! I'm so sorry about the Mister's finger, yikes! You definitely don't want to strum that type of mandolin!
ReplyDeleteYikes about the fingers. Glad to hear he didn't loose any! Great card! I love these colors. I wish I had time this weekend to make a card for color throwdown! I'll have to tag these colors and use them in the future! Beautiful CAS card! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the stenciling and the great die cut. I hope your husband continues to feel better:)
ReplyDeleteSuede paper? Wow, I really thought you had embossed that! Beautiful! I love your card, such festive, happy colors! Thanks for joining us at CASology and thanks for your kind words to all the challenges you played along with this week...you are so sweet! (Sorry to hear about your husband's little "incident"...hope he is fully recovered!)
ReplyDeleteOuch!!! Poor Mister. Yep, he has had a bit of a rough go! The Mandolin does slice and dice in a really cool way...but it does have a mean streak! Yep, got a scratch or ten from this rig !!! But it sure makes fabulous zucchini spaghetti!
ReplyDeleteLove, lovE, love this CAS card! Pretty colors, a sprinkle of stars, a cool sentiment and tons of white space! Soooooo swoon worthy!|
You must be getting so becited! I think about your trip often and want to give you a huge HIGH 5 for doing this! Definitely a Bucket List event. You are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!!
I love your gorgeous card Darnell and I'm very excited for you and your trip ahead! (Wish I was going too) I wish you safe and happy travels my friend:) I hope kevin is recovering from his ordeal, poor thing - hugs xx
ReplyDeleteFun celebrate card...love the diagonal design!
ReplyDeleteAmazing card, love the stars and the bright colors!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, Woah! those mandolins are soo dangerous, I'd lock it away if I were you, poor Mister :(
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your new CAS card, it's so pretty, great colours and design!
Well, as for your question, when I'm spelling I will sound out the word but not if anyone's listening :) Then I do google search and keep a low profile. I like the fun side of your language experiments, keep 'em coming LOL
Hugs Gay xx
So wonderful and fun!!
ReplyDeleteLove this card, Darnell and that suede paper looks so neat to work on.
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly, throw that Mandolin in the trash! Everyone I know who owns one has been to the ER with an injury like Kevin's or worse! :-o
I hope that your Mister is well and he can ride his motorbike without problems, after the accident with slicing potatoes. Poor guy!
ReplyDeleteYou have created fabulous card. I like pastel colours and simple design.
Hugs, Sonja
Oh the poor Mister! I hope his finger is ok now, bless him! That gadget belongs in the bin! Loving your bright cheerful card, lovely colours! Stars always look fab. Not long now till your visit! I hope your quivering stops! Yes, history making events going on here, and not good ones in my opinion. Hey ho, we shall see! I am trying to concentrate on the nice things like your visit! Yay! xxx
ReplyDeleteBrilliant card Darnell!!! Have a great trip.
ReplyDeleteLove the pretty, bright colours in your card. Your poor DH! I hope he is more careful while you are away!
ReplyDeleteVery cool card! Thanks so much for playing along with us at the Color Throwdown!

ReplyDeleteWhat a cheery joyful card, Darnell! Love the CAS overall look but it still has that required pizazz! Hope the mister is well on his way to 100% now, glad nothing worse happened!!!
ReplyDeletePoor Mister! Hope he heals quickly and completely. Your card was such a bright spot in my day - like seeing stars in a good way. he he
ReplyDeleteDarnell, it is such a joy to visit you today. I am so sorry for the Mister! Oh my... hoping for calmer days ahead. Your card is the burst of brightness my heart is craving today! Maarit
Hello you ... finally I made it! First off, I hope that by this time, Kevin's finger is healing nicely ... and that there've been no more unfortunate events to plague him! Second, I can feel your becitement from here ... you're going to have the most amazing adventure! Third, your card ... completely chock full of energy and happiness ... suede paper ... sounds deliciously touchable! Finally ... raspberry ... yes to the p ... and plenty of others ... and sometimes I leave out letters that should be pronounced like the last e in epitome! Big hugs to you, Darnell ... LYAMYHMA ... Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cute card and great read. It always fun at your playhouse. Been busy too and hoping to clean craft room after my last cation that too three tries to get one I liked. Wedding card. Took pictures maybe I will post tomorrow. We love your creative cards and journaling. See you again soon
ReplyDeleteYour card is so much fun Darnell .... love the bright coloured stars.
ReplyDeleteHope the Mister is feeling better .... he's not having much luck this year is he xx
Eventually I get to your blog posts, admittedly in the wrong order, so I now know what has happened to Mister, and pleased to hear he is mended and has all 10 digits once more. That gadget sounds ghastly... throw it! Although be careful doing that or there may be another trip to the ER!
ReplyDeleteLovely card as always Darnell, I love a stencil and I like the way you have used the bright cheery colours to accentuate the celebrate - wonderful! I cannot keep track of all the challenges - I wish I could, your blog certainly helps with it. So much inspiration out there - we are lucky indeed!
Oh, the poor mister, Darnell - four hours in the emergency room - through out that thing - next time he might loose a finger!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your cheerful card with all the pretty little stars!!! Wonderful CAS design in lovely bright colours!!! Very cute!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI am very well. Thanks for asking. Oops, mandolin mayhem and digits in the mangetout. Glad they could glue him back together. Great card. Hugz
ReplyDeletePoor Mister, that was a real Emma Gen See (how my MIL pronounces emergency). Beautiful card and belated happy birthday.
ReplyDelete
