Babies, Easter, Christmas, Fourth of ... Wait. What?

Greetings, Stamplings!

Don't forget the April Boo-Boo Hop/NBUS Challenge #11 is coming soon!

Coming Saturday, April 1st!

Not only is spring in the air, but Easter is almost in the air, and not only that, there's a new baby in the air! Well, I mean, not right now. This baby girl isn't even born yet and, of course, one should never throw a newborn baby up in the air, for goodness sake. But after a few months, she'll love it!

The new baby girl I'm talking about belongs to my friend Lesley Croghan and her husband Corey! Many of you know Lesley because of her own blog (Always Playing With Paper) and as the owner of several of the challenge blogs that we all participate in week-after-week. In order to celebrate the upcoming birth, the thoughtful Lori is holding a Welcome Little Miss Croghan Blog Hop on her blog. There are still a coupla days left if you'd like to join in!

I made this:
This beautiful NBUS "Bunny" image is from Stacy Stamps. I colored the image with my SU markers directly to the stamp and then stamped it on the cream card. I used my colored pencils to give the bunny a pink hue. The heat-embossed fussy-cut sediment is from Hero Arts, "Hey Dey Sentiments." The panel was attached to a burlap panel and I added a pink heart for punctuation.

Of course, Hammy insisted that Miss Bunny needed a bit of twinkle in her eye and shine on her nose!
This was so cute and easy, I made a few extras for Easter cards.

Challenges/Hop
Twofer.

Speaking of Easter Christmas, who hasn't made very many Christmas cards in spite of the fact we are fast approaching the Fourth Month of the year already? That's right, you and me. Well, me, fershur. So I took a few minutes to play with Christmas:
Poinsettias are such a classic Christmas image and, for me, they never get old. I had a lot of fun watercoloring two cards using this poinsettia from Waltzingmouse Stamps with my KGT watercolor paints after heat-embossing them in white. The NBUS sediment is from Skipping Stones. You can't see it, but Hammy blinged the poinsettia with Stella.

In spite of using my MISTI, you can see that the sediment is WAAAY up under the skirt of the poinsettia. What happened was I put the first stamped image on the tool to stamp it, removed it, put the second one in and stamped it without even looking. Well, hellooooo?!! Seeing as how I used my old-fashioned acrylic block to stamp the poinsettia image with Versamark for the embossing, I didn't stamp the image prezackly the same way both times ... well, you get the picture.

So there's a lesson for you: the MISTI is not the most incredible stamping tool invented if the operator is an idiot!

Reminder!!

My boo-boo card above is a smooth way to seque into this reminder! (I didn't plan it that way, but there you go!)

On a personal note, I want to again thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers for the Mister. He is continuing to improve by leaps and bounds! Well, okay, by small steps, but they feel like leaps and bounds compared to being flat on his back!

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower.  Please let me know you came by so I can be sure to return the flavor!

  5. Oh my word, the bunny is totally adorable! (I'd say "totes adorbs" but then I'd have to kill myself, and I have too much NBUS waiting to be used to do that)

  7. That first card is so sweet and looks so realistic at the same time; beautiful! And your poinsettacard is beautiful; I don't mind not seeing the whole text; I know what it says anyway... Hugs, Gerrina

  8. Oh that bunny rabbit is just too darn cute for words, especially with the winked eye and nose - great suggestion Hammy!

The poinsettia card is absolutely stunning!! I didn't even notice the teeny tiny boo boo on the sentiment, it doesn't take anything away from the card at all!

Glad to hear that Mister is improving too! Big hugs, Annie xxxx

  9. Your bunny is so sweet and your poinsettia is bold and beautiful, Darnell. I discovered I had not created as many Christmas cards this month as I would have liked, so I'm happy I managed to squeeze in another one this week, inspired by Cornelia's Muse card.
Happy to hear the Mr. is doing better. DH is going to schedule an appointment for another CT scan today. Fingers crossed everything will be OK.

  11. Gosh, that sweet plump bunny looks as though she's just ready to be stroked, Darnell ... what a beauty ... and so cute with the delicate pink hue and sparkly eyes and nose! Your watercolouring is gorgeous on the poinsettia ... it's positively bursting off the card with all the dimension and depth you created! There I was thinking you'd tucked the sentiment rather nicely into this bold bloom ... and then read it was a blooper ... ooops, I should read before I think! LYAMYMAHYWIGW! Hugs & bisous, Anita :)

  12. Two fabulous cards Darnell and I adore your sweet bunny making a super Easter card and a great way to introduce Lesley's new little girl to come. The Poinsettia is gorgeous coloured with your Gansai Tambi paints and a great card even with your slight boo boo. So pleased The Mister is slowly progressing and hope that complete recovery will happen in the not too distant future. x

  17. What a wonderful bunny image, Darnell, and I think the sentiment looks fine where it is but I understand what you mean about double checking. ;)

  18. Hi Darnell, love your pink bunny, perfect for the soon to be parents. That is a Bobby Dazzler of a poinsettia, gorgeous and of course the sentiment was supposed to be peeping out!! xx

  19. That is the sweetest bunny! I want to snuggle with her and pet that soft looking fur. Your Christmas card is so pretty even with the boo boo. It really doesn't hurt anything. I am so very happy Mister is doing so much better. It's sounding like there won't have to be any surgery and that has to be wonderful news for you both.

  20. Love that bunny...I want to stroke him , he is so realistic. Like your poinsettias too Darnell...but no I can't think of Christmas yet! If my mojo comes a knocking at your door please send it back in the right direction...hope the mister is improving...well I did tell you swinging on the chandeliers must stop at some stage in life!!!! Hugs xx

  21. Well for goodness sakes! If that bunny isn't the sweetest image, and what a great idea to make her into a new baby card!! Brilliant. She's colored perfectly! LOVE the burlap; what a great way to add dimension and interest without taking anything away from the bun-buns. Love this, and I'm sure Lesley will too. Darling, darlin'!! And I rather like how your sentiment is hugging your poinsettia! I thought you did that on porpoise until I kept reading, lol!! I think it turned out rather well! Your watercoloring is beautiful, btw. Such rich reds...just beautimous! Missing you. xoxo

Lovely Christmas card too, so beautiful watercolouring!

  24. Oh Darnell that bunny is just so sweet, especially with the twinkle in her eye! Lesley and Corey are going to love this. Love your poinsettia card too, and if you hadn't said so I'd think the placement of the sentiment was quite deliberate, as I think it looks perfect slightly shadowed by the leaves!

  25. Your bunny card is adorable, Darnell!! I love the soft coloring you gave it and the burlap bg is a fabulous design element!! Thanks for the kind comment on my card, and I am so glad to hear that the Mister is steadily improving!!!

  28. First...glad to hear that the Mister is leaping and bounding his way to recovery. Phew, makes me tired thinking about it but good for him.
Second...that bunny. I'm smitten beyond words and love that you tinted it pink. Such a sweet baby (or Easter) card. That burlap is a beautifully, textural and rustic counterpoint to the image. Perfection.
Third...personally, I like where the sentiment is nestled next to your pretty poinsettia...looks like it belongs there.

  29. Ohhhhh, that's a big, beautiful bunny stamp! One of my NBUSs is a bunny stamp, coming up close on the list. Bunnies make the sweetest baby cards, and I love it on the burlap. Sheesh, I have a whole pad of NBUS burlap paper, too. Love, love your card! And the poinsettia is another big, beautiful stamp. Fabulous impact on the white. I'm struggling along with monthly Christmas cards. It's so hard to get in the spirit, so I appreciate the encouragement.

  31. I love that bunny stamp!! And how perfect to make it for a baby card...just two weeks now if Leslie can hold on... Love your poinsettia, oh I don't think I would share all my bloopers, too embarrassing and too many to even count, the recycle bin sees a lot of messed up stuff!! But I do seem to collect a lot of stuff that I surely need, only to be sitting there waiting for some ink. Darnell, that Mister...I think you need to keep him on a very short leash! I am so happy that he is improving, I am sure he feels like baby steps are not nearly fast enough for him or you, for that matter! Take care...patience my friend!! Heart Hugs, Col

  32. I love the rustic look that the burlap gives to you sweet bunny card Darnell, and I'm impressed that you are keeping up with Christmas before Easter! I've been having a bit of a blog break because of life getting in the way, so I was so sorry to hear about Kevin when I visited today. I'm glad he is on the mend and I'm sending hugs over the airways.
    Take care

  38. LOVE your cards, my friend--especially the bunny one! I have a gorgeous Magenta bunny stamp from many years ago & now I'm going to get it out for an Easter card. Each year I think of it AFTER Easter, but you reminded me in time this year! I have my NBUS card ready to enter on the first which happens to be hubby's son-in-law's BD--yah! The stamp is one I actually tried to sell at my LSS garage sale & they've been closed about 5 years. Now I'm glad I still have it!

  39. Hi Darnell,
2 wonderful cards and such very super designs.
Love the bunny one and you have stamped it so wonderfully too.
    Gorgeous work on it.
Your Rudolf card is also very wonderfil and the poinsettia is gorgeous and coloured perfectly as well.
I agree about the Misti it doesn't allow for operator error as I have found out quite recently.
Lots of crafty love and hugs from my house to yours. Jenny L.

  47. Two fabulous cards Darnell, wonderful images and great designs, well one great design, the other would have been if not for the Misti getting it wrong, but like your attitude "Publish and be dammed" as the old saying goes.
I don't have a Misti but have just got a Hampton Art thingy and was really proud of myself for adding a sentiment is a specific place only to find it was not straight, well when you have to place it face down, how can you tell?

  56. Your first card had me wanting to hug that beautiful bunny and hold a baby at the same time! Your second card had me feeling very ashamed of my measly stack of 2017 Christmas cards. I really have to get on the stick and get some more made. Loved your CAS card. I think I might even have a similar big poinsettia stamp, so maybe I'll give your idea a whirl.

  79. WOW! WOW! WOW! I darn near fell off my chair when I realized that the bunny WASN'T pre-printed! It seriously looks like it's been professionally printed! Hammy had an INCREDIBLE idea - the 'wink' is amazing and adds such a 'real life' look to the eye and nose!

Never too early to get rolling on the Christmas cards! Love your beautiful water colored poinsettia and how the sweet white space makes it pop right off the page! Regarding the sentiment - I'm calling it a 'great miss' on the stamping cuz I really like how comfortable it looks snuggled up against the leaf!

So nice to hear that Mister is recovering in 'small stepping leaps and bounds'! Before you know it, he'll be back on that motorcycle!

  85. Lovely bunny card - reminds me of a Netherlands dwarf I had when I was little! Gorgeous rich poinsettia card too x

    ReplyDelete
  86. haha! What were you telling me about the MISTI Darnell only yesterday?? And you were very brave to stamp the poinsettia image with an acrylic block - I only use mine on smaller images now as I cannot trust myself to stamp properly. I don't need to remind you of this fact! And that bunny is so adorable - I have never coloured my stamps and then stamped them before. I have seen many people do it, but only have Copics and am a bit scared to do it with them. Maybe with my ziggies though... or maybe not after yesterday. Love both of your cards as always, and I am pleased to see that it is not only me that is thinking of Christmas :). Hugs, Lisa xx

    ReplyDelete
  87. Gorgeous cards, as always, but please stop wishing the year away. I never get started on Christmas until at least half of it has gone. Grin.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Oh stop I haven't made one Xmas card yet and your sentiment I like in this position. I have been playing a bit with changing the positions of sentiments and it is quite fun and thus looks fab. Like the texture of your first card plus bunny is a vintage kinda look x

  90. What an adorable bunny card and I especially like the detail and subtle colouring, how lovely to use it for a New Baby card too. Gah! I've not even thought about Christmas (thinking maybe I should considering how behind I get on things these days). Your vibrant poinsettia is delightful and inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing and lovely to see you in the Uniko Challenge gallery again. Hugs Bev x
