Spring Tag and a Style Epifanny

Greetings, Stamplings!

Don't forget the April Boo-Boo Hop/NBUS Challenge #11 is coming soon!

I had an unexpected long lazy Saturday laid out before me yesterday, so I took advantage of it to play in a coupla challenges. I went a little outside my comfort zone and made a multilayered tag!
That little flower center on the bottom right is pink; I don't know why it looks red. And it's hard to see that there is a black tag behind the white one to mimic the black bottom border on the tag I was CASEing. In the photo above, it appears to be just a shadow, so here is a closeup:
I used a NBUS stamp and die set from My Favorite Things called, "Build-able Bouquet" and a NBUS sediment from a 2013 (cough) SSS "Happy Every Day" stamp set which underwent some surgery to fit the design. The triple scored tag is from PTI. I added a few other little stamps I have in my stash and the b/w twine and, of course, lots of winking.
What happened was I found out that this business of die-cutting and stamping and coloring and layering flowers and leaves is HARD and I almost had a complete metal breakdown! I sure do love the style when other people do it and I have several more NBUS stamp and die sets like this, but geez-loo-eeze, what a lot of fiddly time-consuming work it is!

So my epipfanny is that I'm just plain lazy. My style is LAZY QACAS OLC and that's the twoof.

And my desk? Please!
For ONE TAG!!!!!!!! ONE! Hammy just laughed and laughed. Oh, look, there's another wee flower that I could have used.

Sure, fine, laugh your own ephifanny off! I don't know how you do it. Seriously, how DO you do it? Practice? I think I need to watch some videos. Or is the secret to spend a coupla five days doing nothing but cutting and stamping and that way you have a pile of them for when you need them? Let me know because I have to admit, it sure is a cute and happy finished tag so I might stray out of my lane again!

  1. I totally agree Darnell! Your tag is a floral beauty but yes so much faffing for one tag eh! I don't own any of these flower/stamp/die combis....I still choose to either stamp flowers directly or fussy cut.I also just make inky backgrounds and die cut a batch when I have the time. I must admit though all die cutting takes its time and is hard on the hands. However the results are so pretty. Don't throw the die cuttng out of the window yet!Happy nearly spring.Hope you are really well now? Hugs xxx

  2. Hi Darnell, Loving the tag. It was well worth all the gubbins on your desk.

Hope you have a nice day. Sue

  3. Well Darnell, it was certainly worth all the effort because it is downright gorgeous!! Those delicately coloured flowers are so beautiful and I love the design of the tag too. I agree, it is a lot of faffing doing so much die cutting and I don't think the mess on your desk is too bad at all - not when compared to the mess I make!

Sadly my laptop will not allow me to open that little ditty.... Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Big hugs, Annie xxxx

  6. If you think your desk is untidy you haven't seen mine or the floor. Max loves to come in and pinch the odd bit of card that has found it's way there!
Super tag by the way! :)

  7. Love this tag Darnell it has such a contemporary feel and the dimension is fab! I know what you mean about the faff I'm a lazy crafter :)

  8. So well worth the faffing about. Your tag is so pretty, love the colours and the layout is gorgeous. I personally don't use many die cuts with stamps and I am hopeless at fussy cutting so I tend to do stamping and masking....just to throw another combination in. However I love the layering and the look of the wonderful creations done with fussy cutting. I really must do more of it to get better x Thanks for sharing x

  9. Fabulous tag Darnell and so worth the fiddling and faffing though! I have to say, I am with you with the QACAS style! On Wednesdays when I go and meet up with the lovely crafting ladies that Linda introduced me to (who YOU introduced me to - Linda, I mean - ah, you know what I mean) I usually take some NBUS stamps, stamp some images up and then have them on hand to make a card with - I do try to do that on a Thursday, so that the ladies can see the finished article, but I have to say, I am not a big fan of the layered stamping, I don't mind so much the die cutting of the stamped images - not my favourite thing to do, but I don't mind it too much - but I find the layering of the images almost impossible for me - they never seem to layer up correctly (that's my excuse of course ;) I'm just rubbish at it) Well, have a great day my friend. I hope it's better than here at the moment, it's pouring with rain, blowing a gale and freezing cold . . . roll on spring!! Have a wonderful Sunday! Luv n’ Hugs. Hazel xx

  10. Adorable tag!! Love the layers. My desk is messy also, but I do know where everything is. I try to clean it but it seems to go back messy.

  11. Your tag is so pretty spring-y, Darnell! Fabulous job on the placement and arrangement of the die cut flowers! Btw my craftroom looks messier than that, even after I made a one layer card :)! Thank you so much for sharing this with us at The Flower Challenge!

  12. Lovely tag Darnell. I like the dimension and all your faffing was worth it! Sad to say the last pic will not open on my computer :(

  13. I'm right there with you on being a lazy crafter. I am extremely lazy. Tend to just love my stamps and ink...and am ready to go! Love, love, love your amazing tag though. It is 110% gorgeous!

  14. Regardless of how long it took the tag is lovely. Beautiful coloring, layering and placement. You done good! I couldn't open the educational info either. The other pictures loaded just fine. That really is a huge mess for one little tag. I admire your dedication to the task!

  15. Your tag is so pretty, Darnell! I hear you on the efforts it takes to make just one. Probably why I steer clear of making them. ;) I'm glad you tried it and ended up with a beauty. I say a messy desk is the sign of a creative mind. So go forth and create with abandon! :) Hugs!

  17. Your tag is so pretty - I love the layers and the flowers. You adapted to this style excellently, something I have never been able to do. But then I don't have your creative genius. I laughed at your "lazy" comment. That's a cute description! I, too, can't see what your friends sent. Do you think you could e-mail it to me? I'm very curious to read it. Have a wonderful day. BTW, I love your messy desk - LOL!!

  19. Beautiful tag. It's great when your desk looks like that after one tag. No wonder Hammy was in hysterics. I really like the look of the tag and wish I did more of that. Maybe one day.

    I can't wait for the boo-boos.

  21. Have tears rolling down my puffy cheeks from the definition of a word witch that, incidentally, I can bearly prononce. Seriously, where do you and your pals come up with this stuff.
As for the tag, despite the lack of hair remaining on your head and Hammie's gibes, it came out beautifully. I understand fully what you mean about the construction and design issues, though. Drives me wild, too.

  22. I love this pretty tag with it's lovely springtime look, it is well worth the effort to make it and the messy desk.

  28. Girl, you have a language all your own, and the poster at the bottom should surely hang on the walls of your playhouse! I can't stop snickering as my eyes always found typos in the newspapers, and now this is so funny and off the wall, my brain has no clue what to do?! I hope I'm not headed for a metal breakdown! LOL Oh yes, the tag - it's so pretty and layered so well with those fresh spring colors! I can't imagine creating such chaos to make one teeny tiny little tag? Oh wait - your desk looks clean as a whistle compared to mine!! LOL Happy stamping every day :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Boy and howdy, I know what you mean about all the die cutting of stamped images to make an arrangement. I learned the hard way. These days I just hand cut and leave a lot of white space. Nevertheless, it sure made a pretty tag! Those flowers are so cute and perky and shimmery. I like the idea of finding my happy every day, too. Yup, my room looks like an explosion after one card sometimes. Yay for using more NBUS. I keep trying to catch up, but it's always getting ahead of me. Got a kick out of the acrylogia definition! Oh, and, hey... thanks for sharing your super-adorable tag at Double D!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, I love your tag Darnell! Looks like perfect placement on all those flowers too. I know exactly what you mean though......I can get all that stamped, colored, and then cut out but then I'll sit there for days wondering what the heck to do with the mess. You did a fantastic job on this though and you need to do more!
Funny tag and probably true! LOL! Doesn't look like I'll be having a nervous breakdown because of this though. Probably something else, but surely not that!

  31. Your tag is just beautiful. Love the spring colors. It is a gift even without a gift attached. The die cutting is well worth the effort. And yes, I do multiple die cutting while I have them out. I keep the ones I don't use in a little tray and can pick them out for other cards.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You always crack me up, Darnell! And sadly that's how my desk looks after even the simplest card. You are not alone! I haven't figured out the secret yet! Your spring tag is adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  33. My desk looks like that after one card, too, Darnell!!!! Love your stunning tag with all the die cut and stamped little flowers - all the hours of hard work was worth the effort!!!! So beautiful!!!

  38. Your multi-layered tag is gorgeous and to look at it no one would know it was outside of your comfort zone. And, I am glad you write the way you do as I am always getting a chuckle or two from your posts. Not only is your artwork outstanding but your sense of humor is injected into each of your writings as well and that is a pure pleasure to read. You cheer us up! Thanks my friend!

  39. Woohoo, it worked Darnell! I just love that there are so many errors in there too - glad it is not just me who makes the odd faux pas!! Hugs, Annie xxx

  40. Beautiful tag Darnell! And once again, you have me laughing my epiphany off!!! Thanks for always bringing smiles to those of us lucky enough to follow you!

  41. I love your cheerful tag, so fresh spring colors, this looks amazing! I do have a couple of flower + die sets and yes it is true, it does take some time to do all the die cutting and stamping (or the order might be stamping and die cutting, depends on the dies that I'm using!)... But in the end the flowers tend to look so wonderful it feels that it was worth it. :) Usually when I have all the stuff out I stamp and die cut a couple of extra flowers so I have something ready for future... And using the misti helps in stamping large amounts of die cuts -there's some fab videos about it. I've done it a couple of times when making kits for friends and it's not too bad -it's a more fun chore than washing dishes for example and you don't have to think much while doing it! :) Have a great new week!

  42. Totally love the tag, such pretty colours and love images and I like the way you have coloured them.
    Great post too.

  43. A lot of layers and a lot of work. Frankly stamp/die set combos are not only expensive but they frustrate me. I want it to look perfect and sometimes I have to trim it so what I do is fussy cut. Your silliness has a word, who knew. Glad you found time to play this weekend.

  44. Beautiful tag. Love the pretty flowers and the touch of the Wink of Stella.

  45. ROFLOL! about your desk! I can stil c the desk what's Hammy laughing bout?! Love the tag. And love cutting and stacking layers. I miss it so... I still make a huge mess painting. Getting paint everywhere! Love love the end piece.! Hugs

  47. I do believe that there was a lot of work included in this tag, but it looks fabulous! Using stamps and matching dies is out of my comfortable zone too. :-)
    Have a great week!

  48. I've a couple of the cut and stamp flower sets and have wondered why I have so rarely used them. Now I remember, too much work! Guess I should stop being so lazy; if my friend Darnell can do it, so can I. LOL

  49. Gorgeous tag. Worth the effort. Good for sharing your workspace - mine usually looks like that! with a tini tiny A4 space (if I'm lucky) to work in until it drives me wild.

  53. Oh Darnell...have I mentioned how much you crack me up?! Where would blogland be without you??!! (Don't answer that!!) I'm so glad you persevered with your tag as it turned out just lovely! And now you can say you did it and don't ever have to do it again if you don't want to...unless of course you want to!! :0) I really enjoy fussy cutting little images and layering them together, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. Maybe try some calming music in the background next time (if there is a next time!). And by the way, my desk looks like yours ALL the time...I've been told it's a sign of a creative genius! :0)

  54. Fabulous floral layered 'springy' tag..... worth the mess! Oh don't tell me about mess.... I can do that in a few seconds ...lol! As usual thanks for the good laugh Darnell. Maybe you should write a book? Have a wonderful week x

  55. Thank you for showing you craft room because mine looks the same! When I see someone's craft room all nice and neat, I have the faint desire to want to trip them if they walk by me:) I love your tag and I see the black which sets the tag off great with the black used for the flowers. I see the pink and never thought I saw red. The wink of Stella makes the tag look perfect. I also had to laugh at the grammar thing you posted....so funny!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I hate to tell you Darnell, but your beautiful flower tag was worth all the angst...I think! I have the same exact issues with flower bouquet styled cards...so much time, fussing and disastrous mess in the craft room that is it really worth all that...in your case today, I am going to say YES...sorry. Hugs my friend.

  57. Beautiful tag Darnell! Love the pretty blooms and gorgeous use of white space. So so pretty. Had a good giggle at the acyrologia explanation too, so funny and so you! Hugs, Wends xoxo

  58. Lovely, spring-infused tag! I like the layering. Hadn't thought of doing that on a tag. There are lots of techniques that I am oh-so-poorly at. I keep thinking that practice will improve my skills, but it doesn't really seem to work that way. Maybe it's just too difficult to teach such an old dog new tricks. I'll just keep plodding away at this cardmaking thing until I'm really, really old. Then they'll say, "Gee, she's not so bad given how ANCIENT she is!"

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hello Darnell. :o) Your tag is GORGEOUS!! LOVE it!! :o) I enjoyed reading your post... it made me giggle. You are so fun. :o) Big hugs!! xx

  63. Hey there, I know that mess. It must be oozing all the way to my craft room, like the blob. As for your tag, lady, you gave me a quick breath of spring, which is much needed with a 21 degree wake up! I think I shall go curl up in that feeble position for warmth. Heh!

  64. Oh Dee you do make me laugh! you sound as crazy as I am too lol ;) I know what you mean about stamping and die cutting and doing matchy matchy things isn't easy is it. That's why I like simple CAS styles I think.Anyway thank you for sharing your beautiful flowery tag with us over at 'The Flower Challenge'and we do hope you will play again with us soon ;) huggles Vee DT xx

  65. I adore your beautiful tag Darnell and love the layering, colouring and winking and it might have been a lot of heaving and straining but the end result was definitely worth it. The colours are such pretty pastels too and the under black layer does show up and goes perfectly with the baker's twine. I smiled at the plaque, though I must say I had never heard the term before. x

  66. Gorgeous card, Darnell, and well worth the effort. I spent 2 hours die cutting yesterday, then lost my mojo after just 3 cards. Ick. Thanks as always for the laugh, too.

  68. Oh Darnell! So happy I'm here to help you, because yes, die cut flowers and leaves are so fiddly and then you get them laid out PERFECTLY but when you go to glue them down they all move and look like a three-year old arranged the bouquet. The secret is... and this is top secret info so you'd best keep it to yourself because if this gets into the wrong hands it's curtains for the free world as we know it... the secret... I'm serious about the um... seriousness of giving you this info. I feel you can handle it and you seem the trustworthy enough and ADULT enough to handle this. I hope I'm not wrong. Okay, here goes... the secret is... just say "aw fark it" and glue them bitches down wherever they land and call it good.

  70. Love the tag and all the pretty flowers! You did a great job! I think the secret is to stamp, cut & color ahead of time so you will have plenty to pick from for future cards/tags. That's what I'd do, I think. Sounds good, anyway! :) Have a happy day!

  71. Hi Darnell,
what a wonderful tag and such a lovely design too.
Those flowers are so ooooooooo! pretty.
I can understand why my feeble brain switches letters around when typing now. lol.
I ecpect you find our English spelling such a pain as I do because there are so many words that are spelt difficultly, and don't seem to need the odd letters that they put into them.
We need a bloggers dictionry don't we. lol.
I find these days I have to use my spell checker more and more now.
Oh old age has a lot to answer four.....for.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

  73. You wonderful woman you!! Darnell, I so enjoy reading your posts - you say it like it is, for so many in the same frame of mind and desk. You brighten everyone who visits, day and prompt one and all to use NBUS, step out of their comfort zone and extend the hand of friendship via blogging - and weeeelll done your tag is just gorgeous, soft, layered and floral (I'm just a flower person at heart)... and all for such a tiny work of art. I often sit here at my desk and wonder why do I do this... sometimes hours over choice of a design, then colour and stamps, it goes on...but in the end I find I'm over with the basic house stuff and at my desk in a flash and at it again. What do you do with all the cards you make.... I use some and then bundle up others for my mum who gives them to trading table to raise funds for good causes. My tags all end up on cards. Well best get moving this morning, itching to stay at my desk with 3 projects in motion, but haven't had breakfast or hung out the washing.... so Darnell, thank you and again all the work on your tag was well worth it... ps love the 'acyrologia' too, Hugs Robyn

  74. Your tag is a beautiful homage to Spring, Darnell. So happy you traveled outside your lane to create this. :-)

  75. Darnell, What a gorgeous tag! I think most of us crafters spend way too much time fussing over one card, one tag, one scrapbook layout.... but it's all about the details... right?! So glad you took the time to create this multi-layered beauty that the gift recipient is sure to treasure. :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm sorry you almost had a meltdown over this incredibly gorgeous tag...cuz I LOVE it!! In fact, it's probably my favorite creation from you ever!!

  77. Worth all your efforts, Darnell--gorgeous bouquet & I adore the triple tag! Gotta admit--arranging a die cut bouquet or wreath or whatever takes me FOREVER!

  78. amazing tag, so springlike and fresh ...
ooo, and I know the desk, mine is exactly the same, all the time, uf ...
    big hug

    ReplyDelete
  79. Oh I hear you Darnell, I don't do a lot of stamping and die cutting as I don't have that many sets (or the energy to die cut lol). I almost bought that MFT set though, and it is so pretty, I still might. What you need is one of those scan and cut machines! Then it is much easier, I am told. But your finished tag is so beautiful, so I think definitely worth all the effort. I find it very hard to place so many elements (Yana Smakula is great at doing this by the way)... It takes me ages to place three elements haha! And you picked such a beautiful colour palette too, it's a gorgeous tag 😍, hugs Lisa x PS, I had x2 boo hoos in the space of 2 minutes the other morning so I have saved them especially for your challenge. There will be about 150 by the time it starts!

  80. I've been missing awhile but it was such fun to come visit you today... My that tag is pretty but I'm with you when it comes to layering... I get fed up halfway through. I'm glad you didn't give up - This has to be a winner!
I did laugh at the educational info ... I just think you are clever and very quick witted... Heck you could be a Scouser! Have a great day Darnell!

  81. Your tag is so beautiful; delicate like the first springflowers!
My desk is already filled with stuff all the time; I have about 50x80cm and that is it. When finished with someting I have to clean the desk right away, just as the floor...where I "parked" some boxes with stuff I used :) And then I start again... The only thing I am strikt in is to clean everything after 1 project is done and that is what I do from the beginning of my stamping and that makes that I can start a new project right away. That's what I like; from my head straight starting to get it on paper (or something else). Good luck with getting ready for your next project :)! Hugs, Gerrina

  85. Gorgeous tag! I love your 'off the edge' layered flowers and I LOVE the way the fishtail shows the black edging. Don't believe I've ever seen a tag like this, and so pretty. I am finding just stamping the layered flowers is not so easy as it's made to look (even with Misti helping). You did a terrific job on assembling this pretty one! And had such a hoot reading about acryrologia. Would add that one to the Bloganition section but that explanation is too long to sit and type! Sure is funny though. Just read that you had a UK visitor over to play in the Playhouse, and thought "What fun, and how exciting for you both". Big hugs & TFS

  86. Funny isn't it how the more CAS a project is, the bigger the disaster the craft room turns into???
    LOL
    Your tag is awesome!
Thanks so much for playing along with the SPRING COLOUR PALETTE challenge with the SHOPPING OUR STASH crew!!

  87. Hi Darnell
Your tag is delightful and well worth all of that mess lol!
I'm soooo glad I'm not the only one who turns my desk into a bombsite when playing.
You ought to hang that definition on your wall, talking of which, nice to see your Cash's Hummer on the playhouse wall 😉.

  88. I like cutting and sticking and layering things up in precarious piles on my desk that are just begging to be given a little shove towards gravity every now and then!! Love your tag and especially appreciate all the creativity that went into accomplishing it. I guess your lying down with a wet cloth in a darkened room.
just had a thought. Thats zackers wot you need in the cabin. Black out curtains/blinds. hugs Mrs A.

  89. Personally, I LOVE your tag. You are very talented and I doubt you are lazy!

  90. You're a riot, Darnell. I feel the same way about one layer cards as you do about stamping and cutting. I don't do anything ahead of time because I 1. can't find them when I want them or 2. can't figure out how to use them. No matter the struggle, your tag is darling. I love the way you partially colored the flowers and leaves and the layout is great. I'm so glad you shared this with us at Just Us Girls.

As for that 'syndrome', little Miss Grammarian here had to stop reading after the second sentence. It was driving me crazy. ;)

  91. I just found another little bit of happy for today in your sweet (though labour intensive!) shimmery tag, Darnell ... and in this laugh out loud post! I have to be in the right frame of mind for all that stamping and die cutting too ... when I am, it's fabulous to see it coming together ... when I'm not ... eek! Ahhh, Cyrol O'Gia ... bet you could tell a fabulous tale about this little known scribe!! LYAMYHMAYASAS! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)

  92. Oh, wow! This tag was totally worth all the effort and the mess. Wait a minute, what mess? It's tidier than my desk ever is!

  93. Can't resist a catch up :-) Love you pretty floral tag, and I agree with Shirley Bee above, your desk is way tidier than mine.

  94. Ha! I LOVE your layers and beautiful tag, and especially the craft room it was created in! Oh my you are a funny lady. Seriously, your tag was worth all the effort and agony. Beautifully done, gorgeous layout. So glad you played along at Tag You're It!

  95. I can only empathise with the mess you seem to have created along the way...
Tidying as you go = disruption to craft process, wouldn't you agree?
    Such a sweet tag. X

  96. Darling card and are you sure that is your work space and not mine??

  97. Your tag - awesome! I agree - too time consuming for one lousy tag....that is the main reason I don't make them and then what the heck are you going to do with them??? A card I can at least send to someone or sell it....my desk by the way always looks like that, but only in the best case scenario. Usually it is a lot worse.. Acyrologia - for sure you have the worst case of it ;), ha ha ha, you should have been a comedian!

  98. Now, see, all that diecutting and placement anguish paid off. Congratulations on your Tag Your It! win. By the way, I totally agree with Cornelia, you should have been a stand-up comic.

  100. My goodness...I'm always late for the party! Your sparkly flowers are so sweet, and work perfectly with your tag, Darnell! Great job combining all of those challenges, too!
So, it's called acyrologia??? How cool is that?! So, now you can tell everyone you have a 'condition' and they'll think you're special...which of course, you are! I recently found out that I have something called 'Hyperphonia'...extreme sensitivity to certain sounds like nails on a blackboard, which we all have. I go CRAZY when someone slurps their coffee or chews on hard candy...stuff like that :) At least now I know it has a name!
Hope you have a great weekend ahead...sending HUGS, Barb xo
