Happy Weekend, Stamplings!
You've whooshed through another week, halfway through the year! I hope you have a wonderful weekend with a bit of time for getting crafty!
Last week I saw that the CAS Mix Up Card Challenge wanted us to play with tissue paper and to be honest, I thought, nah, I've got so many things on my "Try This!" list, I'll just pass on this one.
Then I saw Loll's Video and I couldn't wait to give it a try!
Onefer.
I made a large panel from the tissue paper with the DI colors you see and then I cut that into four smaller sections to make four cards. For the card above, I added dimension with MFT frame dies. Loll showed how beautiful gold looks on the tissue paper, so I added lots (and lots) o' dots using Delicata "Golden Glitz" and overlaid both frames with a gold Hugs sediment.
Twofer.
I decided to use another piece of the tissue art as a landing strip for a dragonfly. To add more pahjazzle, I used the negative of the dragonfly die as a stencil and sponged random dragonflies in the same colors I used for the tissue paper smooching. Then I embossed the panel (which is glossy) with a Sizzix e/f.
The above photo has a shadow that makes it look like the gold dragonfly has wing defects from a boating accident, so here's another angle:
Threefer.
As I was pulling out various paper options for what to partner with the tissue paper, I came across some gorgeous gold-embossed acetate sheets from (I think) SU which, natch, have never used. And I veered off the tissue paper course, but stuck with the gold.

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

You can see I used a brad. Brads haven't been used much since Brad dated Jen, but I still have some and I'm not afraid to use them now and again.

I think the thing that has stopped me from using the acetate is how to adhere it to a card. For this design, however, the butterfly holes provided the answer. Well, that, and more brads! Here's the recipe and I'm sorry it's a bit violent:
I measured the acetate sheet and laid out the design. I stabbed two holes in the acetate where I wanted the gold brads to be. Then I lined everything up again and stabbed two holes in the gold panel. Using the brads, I then impaled the butterfly to the acetate and then to the gold panel. Then I adhered the gold panel (with everything stuck to it) to the card base with foam tape.
It took me longer to type that, than it did to make it!
I thought at first that the card was schparkly enough without a sediment, but the more I glanced at it across the room, the more Hammy changed my mind, especially when I thought of this Impression Obsession die. I die-cut it from adhesive gold paper and slapped it onto the acetate.

I now return you to your regular scheduled programming. The children can return to the room.

Hi Darnell, I'm glad you decided to play along in the tissue paper challenge as your cards look fantastic, love the colours and the gold does go so well with them. Your butterfly on the gold card looks none the worse for wear, considering the stabbing and the impaling lol! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteAll of them are absolutely stunning, but the dragonfly one is the stunningest. But I'm a total sucker for anything dragonfly related, so I had to think that, didn't I?
ReplyDeleteExcellent way of attaching the acetate to your card. I find I rarely use acetate or vellum because they both have attachment problems, and since they refuse to go into therapy we're stuck when it comes to sticking them.
Jane
Fantastic cards !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the first one themes !!!!!
Ineke X
Great work with the tissue paper and a bit of glitz never goes amiss. I'm sure no butterflies or dragonflies were harmed as they say!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful cards, Darnell! I especially love the artsy look of your first card and the dragonfly stenciling in the second card -very creative use of supplies! xxx
ReplyDeleteThree gorgeous cards Darnell your dragonfly card is really eye catching ...I don't use acetate very often but like how you've attached yours.
ReplyDeleteGreat technique using the acetate
Have a great weekend
Anne
Wonderful set of cards, Darnell. I love the look of the tissue paper technique, the colours are amazing! Now, I was going to try out that technique today at my local crop and craft day after seeing it on so many blogs lately, but could you believe it, I couldn't find any tissue paper! Not a single sheet! I know I have some somewhere, so it will have to wait for another day. I smiled when you said you had 'some' brads. I must have thousands, enough to last several lifetimes! ........along with millions of eyelets. 😉 xx
ReplyDeleteGolden delicious, indeed, Darnell ... the shiny, rich butterfly and dragonfly cards are both gorgeous enough ... add to them that first, golden dappled, glinting, summery tissue background stunner, with the lovely scripty sentiment stretching beautifully across it, and you have a terrific trio! Spectacular! LYAMYLALHAHARWE! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo! Another faberoony selection of crafty goodness, Darnell
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Kathyk
Great cards! Love that tissue-technique and the gold looks so elegant! You slowly must get less paper; you find so many ways to use it... Hope you have a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteAll this wonderful gold just makes my heart happy Darnell, what a collection of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWowzers, three stunning card, but I think the dragonfly one is my favourite, I just love those pops of colour. Hope you're still resting and taking things easy (crafting counts as taking it easy of course) x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards!!
ReplyDeleteA whole lot of pretty going on in your neck of the woods. Great job using that technique encouraged by Loll. Even in you veered off course the golden butterfly is beautiful. Thank you for the giggle and the delightful cards. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think making cards was hazardous to your health but with all the stabbing and jabbing going on I have to rethink that! It's way more violent than I thought. I have had the handle of my big shot twirl around and hit me in the hand so I guess it could be. Now, on to the cards. Oh Darnell, you've done it again. Three gorgeous cards and oh that dragonfly card. I love the colors and design of it. The touch of gold on all three is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty Darnell and who knew tissue paper could produce such gorgeousness?
ReplyDeleteI love the gold butterfly one... I have that die but as yet, mine is still a decoration and hasn't been used. It's a very pretty die though and I'll get around to it and hopefully make a card as gorgeous as yours.
Three GORGEOUS cards Darnell, and even though there was quite a bit of violence to the last one, I still enjoyed the end result!! :0) I think my favorite though is your first card with the gold speckles on the tissue paper...so colorful and just illuminating! Hope you have a wonderful weekend...cool here but nice and sunny!! :0)
ReplyDeleteWow thee are fantastic Darnell...love them all...very inspirational. Hope you are progressing well, certainly your mojo for cards seems in full flow! xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, just love your tissue paper with gold outcome ... your card is beautiful. I found the technique fun and easy to do. Hugs, Marilyn
ReplyDeleteGreat set of cards Darnell ..... so glad you played with the tissue paper, stunning results my friend. I must admit I was having fun doing the same yesterday. Enjoy your weekend xx
ReplyDeleteYour cards are so awesome Darnell. I'm glad you gave it a try. Stunning. Hope you are having a great summer.
ReplyDeleteMy Word Darnell...such fabulousness for a Saturday. Super Super cards. I might have to try that tissue paper thing...yours looks so lovely and I am intrigued. Love that you pulled out a brad or two or three I have a shload of them so there is hope yet. Happy Weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow! All of the cards are so awesome in every way. I love the tissue paper background you made and adding the gold elements was a perfect combination. Those are delicious colors too you used. And, the last one with all that gold is also an elegant and outstanding work of art. Thanks for sharing your designs.
ReplyDeleteCutting the tissue paper into four smaller sections is a great idea, Darnell! Your background is gorgeous. I love that you added shiny gold dots to the background, echoing with the gold die-cut sentiment. The dragonfly DIY stenciling is beautiful too. They look like they're circling around the gold one. Hideko
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful cards, and this is only the 2nd time I heard of the tissue paper technique, so now of course I'm going to have to investigate! I love the gold touches on each card, and the butterflies and dragonflies are equally lovely! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteFabulous array of cards Darnell love the tissue paper with all that gold. Hope that dragonfly didn't suffer on being impaled! 😂
ReplyDeleteVal x
a gorgeous trio of golden deligts, Darnell! Kinda liking all that shiny stuff and the old school brads, or course. My brother Brad should take up some gold work - (smile).
ReplyDeletefab cards, love them!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many great inspirations in one post !! I love all the cards, but the last impression made on me is the greatest card. Great design, this card is incredibly beautiful and elegant. Gold, it was an excellent choice.
ReplyDeleteBożenA xoxo
Wow, I just watched that same video and have been getting inky all day too! I LOVE your cards and the colors you got with this technique - I love them all but I think my fav is the first one - love all that white with the colorful tissue paper - it really pops! Thanks for the fun and inspiration Darnell! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous array of card Darnell, the first one is my favourite , super colours on the lovely background, looks stunning against the white frames.
ReplyDeleteLove the way you have stamped over the EF.
Take care
Kath x
Thanks to you I have another technique to try...as if I didn't have enough already. Checked out Lolls' video...now I'm itching to cut up some tissue paper. Though, chances are, my results probably won't touch yours. May I just say...WOW! (at the top of my lungs). You really gilded all your lilies beautifully. Sorry about the butterfly...lepidoptery has never been my forte. But what a card! Brutal though it was to make it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! So unique and creative!
ReplyDeleteWow, a lot of golden deliciousness. Love all your beautiful cards. TFS
ReplyDeleteA stunning collection of cards! The vibrancy of the colours is fabulous and the designs are amazing. Stunning photography.
ReplyDeleteElaine
Pick me up off da floor momma! ROFL'ing and avoiding injury. All the stabbin an jabbin is the reason I gave all my jenless brads away. Hope the new owner has plenty of bandaids handy. ;) :) Fab cads Darnell! Thankfully you and Hammy were not injured the aking of them. Hugs
ReplyDeleteWow! I must come back and check out Loll's video! Your cards are stunning!!! I am so bad about just making one card at a time. I NEED more cards than one at a time, plus it takes me all day to make one card! I am so impressed with your threefers!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell
ReplyDeleteYou are spoiling us with 3 glorious cards.
The schparkly tissue paper on the first card is inspired. May just have to try that one.
Hadn't noticed the maimed dragonfly until you mentioned it lol!
Hope you are healing well. Oooh, bumped into pink haired Christine at a craft show last week. It was lovely to see her after our burger joint gathering last year. Hasn't time flown!
Best wishes.
Ang x
Such stunning cards. Love the coloured tissue paper. I too have a stash of brads must use them! :) Very clever way to um attach the butterfly
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards Darnell. I love this tissue technique. I love the acetate you have used, So pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous colours and a great technique using tissuer paper Darmell. I adore the first with touches of gold and the beautiful stitched frames to show it off, and then the mixture of stencilling and embossing with that gorgeous butterfly is great on the second. The gold acetate is stunning too and the gold stitched panel and large sentiet finish it perfectly. I hope you are having a good weekend. x
ReplyDeleteYes definitely golden delicious! All three are amazing Darnell, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh girly girl! These tissue paper mixy uppy cards turned out so pretty!!! Makes me want to break out the fun stuff and get busy. Except that the Cubbies are playing...and the season is half over already, lol!! Anyhoo... Those gold sparkles look amazing! Could totally be a painting! The 'hugs' is so perfect and you've framed it beautifully. Then there's the cool dragonfly card. Now, I usually pull the legs of my...brads (haha fooled ya, you thought I was going to say dragonflies!!), but by using it at it was purposed, you've done 'brilliant' one more time. LOVE the colors and the stenciled beauties, too. That last card, however.... is something extra special. The acetate had me fooled until I kept reading. The open butterfly is the perfect compliment to those quatrefoils. Absolutely gorgeous. Dang girl. A trio of loveliness. Sending hugs and a bunch of I miss yous. Bev
ReplyDeleteYour cards are really quite regal with all that gold! I love them all, Darnell. They're CAS but with lots of color and interest. Besides, of all the insects out and about, dragonflies are one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteWOW ... amazing three-fer post Dolly!! So happy you tried out the tissue paper watercolouring. Your colours are GORGEOUS ... especially with the gold! Love how you've used smaller pieces so you can get main panels for four cards ... I do that too! :) Love the dragonfly and the background with the stenciled dragonflies in colours that work perfectly with your tissue panel. The embossing folder adds lots of texture and dimension. The gold card is another beauty. I really enjoyed how you put it together. Taking out your frustrations by stabbing your card pieces is a great idea. Bet you were mellow after you finished making it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out about my video ... you are so sweet! And thanks for sharing your beautiful Hugs card with us at CAS Mix Up! Lolly xx
The gold is a definite WOWZER, just love all that shimmer. Tissue paper can be addictive :)
ReplyDeleteWow...Gorgeous tissue paper CAS design, Darnell for our CAS Mix Up Challenge...But there is more..3 more gorgeous cards. Each card is so beautiful with so many creative techniques, embellishments, etc and designs. TFS all your beauties my friend. Thank you for joining our CAS Mix Up Challenge too. Hugs..
ReplyDeleteThe gold looks amazing on the tissue paper. Some wonderful cards x
ReplyDeleteWell Darnell this proves to me that you have a sadistic streak with all your stabbing and impaling (of course I would NEVER do anything like that!!). For all that your cards look wonderful. Love the tissue paper ones, especially with the gold added, and also the acetate (despite the violence). I do hope Hammy is safe!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
Apologies for being late to the party, all three cards are gorgeous. I will definitely check out Lol's video, who knew tissue paper could look so good! Love your gorgeous colour choices too, especially the way you picked out the colours for the dragonflies on the second card. You did a great job fastening the acetate on the last card - thank goodness for brads! Hope you are having a good weekend! Big hugs, Annie xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, Loving the cards. The Dragonfly one would be my favourite.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a nice day. Sue
Gorgeous cards Darnell!

ReplyDeleteYou ahve been super creative! All three cards are gorgeous. I think my favourite is the gold butterfly.
ReplyDeleteI sure do love your tissuey backgrounds with the gold, whether splattered, die cut, or impaled. Very pretty stenciled and embossed background on the dragonfly card. Wow x 3 today, Darnell!

ReplyDeleteOh I've seen that tissue paper technique and it looks so amazing the results I really should try (added it to my ever growing list of a million techniques to try!). Love all the gold on these cards too and I won some brads in a friend's craft room clear out and have no idea what to do with them. Some of them are super sparkly as well..... hmmm.... need to investigate!!! Thank you for the inspiration. xx

I'm all inspired to play with tissue paper and inks, it's been a while since I did that. Might even incorporate a brad or 2 :) Have a great week x

Ooh those tissue paper cards look awesome! I must hop to see how it's done and give it a try. Love your impaled butterfly card too! Inspite of the violence! Tee hee! I have loads of brads and don't think to use them, maybe I should! Hugs xxx
ReplyDeletePlaying catch up after vacation! Lots of prettiness happening here on your blog while I was away Darnell. I love your fancy dragonfly card. And that little vase of tulips is as pretty as can be!!
ReplyDeleteOMG Darnell ! What a gorgeous trio of cards ! I love them all ! May be the first one is my fav one, what a stunning and striking background you succeeded to do with Loll's technique ! Incredible how gorgeous it is with the addition of the gold dots ! Superb ! But the two other cards are also very beautiful and I love the golden acetate panel you've made. It is so delicate and sophisticated ! It's really an artistic trio that you offer us ! Thanks for sharing and for inspiring ! Wish you a wonderful rest of the week ! Hugs !
ReplyDeleteWow, these are gorgeous cards, Darnell! I absolutely adore the first one - the bright colors and the dots of gold are so luxurious-looking.
ReplyDeleteWOW WOW gorgeous cards, I LOVE the tissue background, I'll check out the video :) I hope you are doing well, I've been MIA for a while. Take care, talk soon xxx
ReplyDeleteNot sure why we quit using brads & now I'm digging mine out! Love all these cards, Darnell! That last one is a stunner & the second one is just over the top creative with the stenciling & dry embossing & beautiful tissue paper piece! The first is clean & fresh & gorgeous! Good thing I didn't watch the video (thought the same thing as you)--too much already swimming in my brain & not much getting done--haha! Hugs, Greta
ReplyDeleteSo glad you decided to give a try with the tissue challenge Sis! what beautiful cards - love the touches of gold with the pretty colors of ink! and how fun to find that lovely paper in your stash to use with the golden butterfly on the third! thanks so much for joining us in the CAS Mix up challenge! Julia xx
ReplyDeleteWOW, each one of these dazzlers is solid gold! Love the designs and tissue art and acetate, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours on the first two cards and loved your sneaky fix of acetate with the butterfly brads on the third! x Anne
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to know where to start with all my comments!! Firstly LOL "violent"... I wondered where you were going with this until I came across "stabbed" and "impaled". I get it. Too funny, but also such a pretty card and those brads are a great way to adhere the acetate (staples are also good, and if you can be bothered, a sewing machine is good). Secondly the tissue paper cards!!!!! Wowza! Pretty pretty, especially LOVE the gold which is now on my list to buy, what a true gold it is. Never tried tissue paper on my cards, adding to list..... I am going to need 9 lives to try everything I want to try in this hobby.....hugs, Lisa xx
ReplyDeleteI was away this week so I am going to have to look at that tissue paper tutorial. I adore the cards that you created using this technique!! The first one is my favorite with the gold touches!!! Your third card-acetate? I think I need to pull the stuff I have out now!! I LOVE the effect!! I hate adhering it myself to a card and usually don't wind up using it unless I make a shaker. Great design!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I stopped by...not just to see your beautiful 'threefer' but I always enjoy reading your posts ~ A landing strip for a dragonfly? You are too funny, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job with this technique! I love all three of your cards, but I am partial to the first one with all the gold Delicata ink that you added to your design...so beautiful!
I hope your week is off to a great start ~ Sending hugs and thanks for all of your lovely comments on my blog...You're the bestest!!!
Total awesomeness - all that shimmery gold and the colorful tissue paper comes together perfectly! Thankfully those insects were never alive - can't see you as a killer of those beautiful creatures ;)
ReplyDelete
