Good morneve, Stamplings, wherever you are in the world!
As the August Guest Designer for Just Us Girls, I'm happy to welcome you to our third challenge for this month.
JUGS is taking you back in time to your nursery/elementary school days when you played with your primary colors. In fact, if you have them, bring in the children and grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and any rodent pets you have taught to hold a crayon!
How about that for bringing back those childhood memories? Is there any place in the world that doesn't have these iconic crayons? This NBUS stamp from Dark Room Door was heat-embossed and colored with my Ziggies. Eek, I see my sediment from Paper Smooches is not perfectly centered. (Medic! Bring the sequints!) A few wonky stitches and a lovely textured sky blue base and I've made another QACAS card.
Oh, wait. Not yet, girls and boys! You know we have to add a little bit of juezz sais quoi in the form of gloss!
*Haha, what a liar!
~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!* Thank you for making it to the end and I hope to see you in the JUGS gallery this week!!
I don't have a second, third, or fourth card for you, but if you're interested, I did put together some photos from our recent little vacay to the beautiful Oregon coastline.
Because of the dreadful fires in the western US and Canada, the skies were very smoky. The sun in the lower right was actually blood red as a result of the smoke. The photo on the left was a day we had some pretty blue sky as we went south. I had to share the hydrangea photo because the size of them and the vibrant colors just blew me away! I'm in the photo for scale because I'm a large woman, so you can understand my amazement! And the hydrangea bush just out of range to my right was equally huge!
Imagine my delight to find a real brick-and-mortar paper crafting store in the heart of Astoria! The Mister (who you can see reflected in the window!) was very patient while I browsed and bought. We haven't had any small craft stores in the area where I live for years, so this was a treat!
Another treat was this tame sea gull named "Crackers!" We innocently took the corner table inside a fabulous local restaurant in Cannon Beach. I jumped a foot when several minutes later, I heard knocking on the window right next to my ear! I mean he really knocked loud and then he'd wait and then knock again and so on. So darn cute!
The owner told us that Crackers has been coming by every evening for a number of years ~ just him, not a whole swarm of them. Because they serve a lot of chowder, they have little packets of oyster crackers, which Crackers loves. Hence the name. I wanted to bring him home with me to play with Hammy and the twins. We love oyster crackers, too!
Our son told us to take photos of us and not just the scenery, so we obliged. Now normally we wouldn't indulge in a bakery treat just after breakfast*, but how could you not patronize a bakery with such a punny name as "Dough Dough?!" The bloke in the window is the Mister and, despite the angle, he is not wearing a tie with his shorts! He has on a windbreaker with a white lining over a dark-colored tee-shirt. It's his "grandpa uniform!"
~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!* Thank you for making it to the end and I hope to see you in the JUGS gallery this week!!
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure to return the flavor!

You always crack me up!!!! Congrats on GD at JUGS!!!! Dough Dough Bakery... Funny!
Hah yes well my hair dye is a primary colour! (No, no, I mean my naturally youthful haircolour!) Anyway I just love this crayon card....it virtually jumped out at me from the Blogger 'reading list' - it's both artsy and fun. Nice to see your holiday snaps too.
Great GD card, love the added gloss to the wax crayons. TFS the photos of your trip, how wonderful to find the paper crafting store on your travels, it's a shame you don't have any near where you live. So many seem to have closed over the years in the U.K., but we still have quite a few within easy driving distance. My crafty friend Ruth and I have planned to go out on a jolly on Monday to visit two bricks and mortar craft shops and hopefully have time to make a slight detour to visit a third. Fingers crossed. xx
Gorgeous card, we all love Crayola don't we? And gorgeous photos too although the coffee shop in the very last one intrigues me. Is that man in the window really wearing a smart jacket and tie with shorts?
Jane
Hi Darnell, Your card is lovely.
Thanks for sharing your photos of your trip to the coastline of Oregon.
Loved the look of the craft shop. Surprised Crackers isn't huge if he get's fed crackers.
Hope you have a lovely weekend. Sue
Love what you've done with those crayons - they are iconic and must have been around forever and still going strong. Thanks for sharing the lovely pics too.
Beautiful card, congrats for your GD! I'm amazed by your photos, expecially those with that fun gull! I too have a gull that comes every day to me to have food... :D
A fantastic card with those wonderful crayons Darnell. I love the pictures of the Oregon Coast, we drove some of it ourselves at the end of May on the way back to Vancouver and our flight home. It's was not very warm then.
Sue xx
Love this post and sorry I've not been around much recently life and all that stuff just gets in the way.. Your fab card really did take me back I spent hours with those crayons as a child Love the holiday photos looks like wonderful place to visit Love and hugs Carole x
What a super card for the theme Darnell and the perfect sentiment to go with those crayons (which I remember so well). Love the holiday photos of you and the MIster and it looks like you had a fun time. Take care xx
Oh Darnell...I can smell those crayons!!.and what a wonderful sentiment. Thanks for sharing the photos of your break...made me smile, especially the son who said to take pictures of you two and not just scenes that is us to a tee...prefer the scenery to our photos taken. xx
oh my gosh, your card takes me back to my coloring book days as a child! I'm loving the vivid colors! As for the vaca photos, awesome - especially crackers! That story is too funny! Loving the dough dough bakery and craft store too! Looks like you two had a great time together and I'm happy for you :)
Fabulously colourful card Darnell! Congrats on the GD spot! The crayons take me back some! Thank you for sharing your great vacation photos. It's a good job Crackers is a friendly seagull, as a coastal town dweller, our seagulls can get quite aggressive with the holiday makers and they are huge birds with vicious beaks and can (and have) cause(d) quite nasty injuries. It's fun that Crackers has learned to 'knock' to get attention and rather makes a mockery of the term 'bird brain' as he is clearly very intelligent! Have a lovely weekend my friend! Love & Hugs. Hazel xx
My Card Attic
Congrats on your guest designer spot!! Awesome card! Love your vacay pictures also
Love your card and the gloss just finishes it off perfectly. Looks like you had a fabulous break and how sweet was Crackers! Hammy would have been jealous though if you'd bought him home with you. Hope you have a great weekend x
Oh boy...crayons! A wonderful staple of childhood! Wonderful card, too. I really like the shiny look. Thanks so much for sharing the vacation photos. Not fun to have to deal with the smoke and haze, but you managed to capture some really awesome photos. Those hydrangea are glorious! Wow! I would love to have some those colors! Our hydrangea aka snowball bush is really tall, but the flowers are white and don't get nearly so big. Fabulous that you found a brick and mortar store to indulge your crafty love. You know, Archiver's here has been closed for years and I still miss going to that store. Crackers is pretty cool, too! Thanks again for sharing. You got some terrific photos of your vacation. :) Hugs! Have a great weekend.
What a fun card! I still have coloring books and crayons in an end table that the grands used. It was fun to sit down and color with them. I like the primary colors and the matching blue cardstock. Your pictures are great and gives me a glimpse of the Oregon coastline. It's so sad about the fires and smoke but a lovely surprise to find a stamp store. Crackers is adorable and that he knocks cracks me up. I love the mural that Mister is by and we have a pizza place here called "Dough Mamas".
Darnell, at this point I don't even remember what you made. My eyes got big when I saw the paper store, the gull named Crackers and the bakery named Dough Dough. I was mesmerized by those pictures.
Oh, now I remember.........crayons. Loved them. There was nothing like coloring out of the big box that had the built in crayon sharpener. So many lovely colors. [Bunny]
I adore those DD crayons so prettily glossed, and the blue card base goes beautifully Darnell and love those wonky stitches too, making this another great GD card. Looks like you had a great time in Oregon and sad they have had these awful fires but the scenery is wonderful. I love the photos and seagulls are usually a nightmre but this one is cute, and who doesn't enjoy browsing a nice craft store for a few goodies and having a restorative pastry with a cup of coffee...lol. x
A fabulous card. It certainly does bring back memories.
Love your holiday photos. I did a Greyhound trip from LA to Vancouver, stopping along the way. The scenery is beautiful.
My city used to have four local craft stores but in the last couple of years it has fallen to two. One being a Kaiser Craft just a five minute walk from home. so convenient.
I love your card. Your vacation looks awesome! Glad you took pictures of yourselves, and not just the scenery:) Thanks for sharing them.
What a great read. Enjoyed the photos of your time away x Glad you managed to find a crafty shop and also managed to find time to go in and buy goodies..ye ha! Fabulous hydrangeas and love 'crackers' too x Always patronize a bakery called dough dough I say!!! Way to go x Cute card today and love the extra shine and really didn't notice the sentiment not in the centre...until you said....go find a sequin x Thanks for sharing and congratulations again on guesting x
Your card is so fun! It sure does bring back memories...especial that midnight blue color I was so fond of! And I love the pictures of your adventure. We have a GREAT stamp store here in Buffalo, NY! We are so fortunate! I always leave a Ben Franklin and some presidents at that store! LOL!
oh my gosh those crayons are amazing! I love the coloring and that shine!! Great job! The colors did make me think of crayons first and I did go with a school theme for it. Great job!
The crayons are fantastic. And your sentiment is in the right place...the wonky stitching makes it look centered.
Your son must have known my mother at some point...she too had less interest in pictures without her loved ones in them. Scenery is just scenery if you weren't there...but pics with loved ones and scenery...well that's the mother lode.
Have a fabby weekend, and thanks for the pictures.
Haha, funny lady. I too would partonize Dough Dough's. I also have always fancied blue hair. Hugz
Oh wow!! I just LOVE that image and what a fantastic take on the colors this week!! LOL!! Such a fun post and I love all of your photos!! :) Thanks for sharing Darnell!
I really enjoyed seeing pictures of your vacation, Dolly! And regardless of what you say, you are NOT a big woman, but that hydrangea is HUGE! Love your shiny crayons too! Wasn't it fun to get that new box of crayons instead of having to use all those itty bitty pieces in the crayon box?
What a treat to see the pictures of you, your DH and Oregon. Am glad you had a great trip. I adore my local craft store - just one nearby. Oh, and a fun card too - a great post today!
What a beautiful card!! I love the crayons!! The added gloss is a perfect touch!! The sentiment is perfect, too!! And what gorgeous photos!! I love the Oregon coast!! Have a great weekend!! Big hugs :)

A Mermaid's Crafts
You certainly coloured my world today my friend!! I love your beautiful crayon card, I just want to pick up the crayons and colour with them!
How lovely to see all your vacay photos too and so pleased you found a craft shop to visit, there is nothing quite like touching crafty things for real before you buy them... Hugs, Annie xxx
Love the primary colours together! And your crayons took me straight back to childhood and happy hours spent colouring. A great idea for the challenge!
Love, love, love your card! And I always love visiting you blog and reading it - you are such an inspiration to so many. Loved all the pictures and details about the fun times you are having! So happy you are DT at JUGS!!!
Love the Dough Dough bakery! Beautiful pictures huni, I would love to visit the US again one day as there is so much more of it than we had a chance to see. We especially loved Maine and the area around Boston and I adored Florida and would love to see more off the tourist trail there. Trust you to find a nutty bird lol! I bet Hammy is jealous too!
A real life crafting store - I miss those! All we have where we live now are the big stores and they just don't carry the little gems I used to find in the little stores, I miss that so much! Have a good weekend sweetie xx
Fantastic card, fantastic post, fantastic photo's, fantastic shots of Mister in the windows.
Kath x
You done good on the photos, although I'm not sure who the large woman you're referring to is...certainly not you. You forget we met and I outweigh and outheight you. I have pictures someone sent me to prove it. Loving the card. Primary colors make me happy and so do crayons.
You should have captured Crackers by leaving a trail leading into a cage for him. Just know he, Hammie and the twins would become best buds.
It's too bad you had your vacation during all those awful fires...my daughter in Hood River says the sky is weird looking all day and has been for weeks. Hopefully they get a handle on them soon...we have an eclipse coming soon and, I'm sure, folks would like to see it.
Congrats on GD spot! Fabulous card! Brings back a lot of happy childhood memories! Childhood? This OLD person still loves to color!
Thanks for sharing your vacation pictures! They're awesome. I'm guess we're quite fortunate in our area to still have some brick and mortar stores! Within about 90 minutes of my home there are about four of them!
Gorgeous photos, thanks for sharing. I love what you have done with the colors challenge, how much more primary can you get than with crayons? Super cute card, it's such a pleasure to have you with us this month over at JUGS!!!
I love your primary crayons Sis - they remind me of how I would sit for hours and hours coloring in many many coloring books - tearing out the page if I went out of the lines! The photos of your trip are lovely - looks like you and the Mister had a nice little trip and did fun things! have a lovely weekend - we're off to visit the 40 year old son in MD - about an 8 hour drive - I might be pretty stiff by the time we get there and that would be without alcohol! Julia xx
Great card. I felt your primary color lineup missed green, but I see you were limited in your color selection. Love the addition of the gloss.
Thanks for sharing the vacation photos. I had a good laugh at Crackers and how he doesn't invite his friends to come along (he'd have to share then). I'm quite sure Mister is wearing a tie with his tea and pastry. Pip, Pip 'n all.
Well I'm torn between admiring your wonderful primary color (in every sense of the word) card, and your very fun vacation photos...so I'll comment on both! The crayon image is just fabulous on its own, and when colored up and glossed, oh my!! I had to chuckle at your off-center sentiment and emergency call for sequins, but I really do think that sentiment goes perfectly with your wonky stitched frame. Did I mention how much I like the crayon stamp?? Crayons and I have been good friends for many, many years.
Those overcast Oregon coast skies and your windbreakers are pretty par for the coast in my experience, but Crackers is a special bonus. I thought he was a sculpture when I first saw your photo of him knocking on the window...too funny! We stayed in Half Moon Bay, on the northern California coast recently and ate at a cute restaurant by the beach. No funny seagulls there, only a bad case of food poisoning for my hubby! We would have much preferred a panhandling seagull. Thanks for a peek at your trip photos as summer comes to an end!
Such a fun and fabulous card, Darnell! And what great photos! Looks like you had a wonderful time! :)
Love this card! And of course I didn't notice the slight imperfection of the sentiment placing until you pointed it out, but then even before you said it thought, embellie!
And what, you don't google for stamp stores before you travel anywhere? ;)
You are such a good glosser, Darnell. When I do something that large I end up with dimples and bubbles. No worry about the sentiment. It looks like it's elementary and it's supposed to with those wonderful crayons. I love all your vacation photos. It looks like a fun time was had.
Oh my goodness what a fun card! CUTENESS Darnell. Amazing pictures from your vacay too. I love it when I find a brick and mortar store. They are becoming harder to find, but I dive in when I do!
You sure NAILED (hammer hammer hammer) this challenge on the tips of your crayons Darnell. Of course you need shine on them and adding that sentiment just makes this one PERFECT card.
So lovely to see photos from other parts of the world and even better when we see you in them. Oh how fun to have spent time in THAT craft shop. Bliss! Glad you have a patient hubby and you hope you bought lots of great goodies.
What better way to finish than to spend time at that Dough Dough Bakery with yummies to boot. Thanks for sharing. Hugs Ina
I so enjoyed reading your post Darnell, it always puts a smile on my face. My son lives out in Seattle and has said that the smoke has been terrible! Looks like you enjoyed yourselves anyways. Loved all the photos too! Now your card for our JUGS challenge is spot on Fabulous!!! The colors did scream Elementary school for sure! It's been such a treat having you with us and I look forward to next week's card as well! Hugs!
That is a perfect back to school card. And, I enjoyed the article and photos of your vacation too. Looks like all had a great time and so neat you got to meet Crackers too.
Love what you've done with those crayons - they are iconic and must have been around forever and still going strong. Thanks for sharing the lovely pics too.

I love all the sparkle on your crayons! I must have had hundreds of boxes of crayons over the span of my childhood. Thanks for sharing your lovely vacation pictures.
What a cool card Auntie!!! Oh how I loved and still love a new box of crayons! What is it about a new box of crayons?! I loved coloring when I was little too and still do. lol I guess that is what's so great about card making because we can color whenever we want to. Love, love, love the vacation photo's!!! I just love Crackers too, how cute is it that he knocked on the window to you?!!! You and the Mr. look great in the photo's and it looks like you had a grand time! I would so love to see the west coast someday. It's so beautiful out there! Big hugs, Brenda
Your colorful card is fun - especially with the addition of some glossiness on those crayons. Sounds like a fun challenge, but inviting your readers to try their hand at creating something using hair dye could be a bit risky - because one or more of us may actually try it! Loved your photos of the Oregon coast. I have a daughter in Portland, Ore., and a son in Vancouver, Wash., so when we visit them, we sometimes drive out to the coast. Love Astoria and Cannon Beach!! Next time we go, I'll keep my eyes open for Crackers. The seagull.
Greetings from Spain!
What a great post, looks like you had a fab time. Wonderful pics ... I love to see people in pictures too!
I love the simplicity of your card, it really pops!
You are a great Guest Designer!!!
Chrissie xxx
What a great card Darnell, primary colours always look ace.Your trip looked awesome and to find a craft shop was the icing on the cake. Enjoy your Sunday xx
This is exactly what came to mind when I chose these colors! Fabulous! Love how you colored those Crayons and added the gloss. Once again, you rocked this challenge!
It feels good to go back to the basic with those colours! So often I start out with them and get so many beautiful colours...
Your photos are fun and I wish I could see a hydragenea as big as that; they are one of my favorite flowers... Enjoy the sinday!
What a superb card for the challenge!! Love that you added that gloss! And I LOVE your photos! Oh that gull reminds me of one that used to knock on my Aunt's window everyday for food. And that painted fence is fabulous... Wonder if I could do that around my garden???
yep, we have those crayons here, love all the fun colours and I so didn't notice the sentiment was not centered! Great photos, look like fun was had by all!
What a gorgeous gallery of photos Darnell ... looks like you had a fab time. The tame seagull cracked me up. We have plenty of seagulls but definitely not tame ones. They don't wait to be invited for food .... in fact once we even had one land directly on the BBQ .... whilst it was on!!!! Luckily the lid was down ... his feet must have got a little warm, he didn't hang around long!
Love your crayon card too ... what a fab stamp. i love the glossy finish too xx
What a cute card and great photo's of your time away. We haven't had any brick & mortar stores for stamping or scrapping near me in Maine for years. How wonderful to know that they do still exist. Great pic's of you and hubby and I think that little crackers is darling!
First of all, cute crayon image! Those crayons look like they've been loose in a box and been rummaged through many times. Love the pretty gloss! Beautiful and fun photos! Good thing you didn't come up this weekend as the eclipse traffic is crazy. Crackers would have startled the heck out of me, but what fun! One seagull is nice, a flock... not so much. I would have had to stop at that store, too. My hubby has been very patient waiting for me at times like that. Don't come across too many paper craft stores these days. Our local store was so beautiful and fun, but it closed last winter. Very sad! Mister not only looks like he's wearing a tie, but at first glance it looks like he's holding a fishing pole. A great collection of beachy photos. Oh, and that hydrangea is gorgeous! Mine are always blue, but one turns a pretty purple all on its own. I do have a white hydrangea, but the deer ate off the buds so I didn't get to see it this year, tsk tsk.
Beautiful card and great vacation picture. We went to Washington/Oregon two years ago and it was a fabulous trip. Beautiful area.
Hi Darnell
Ahhh, this takes me back to my youth (which wasn't very long ago).
They look just like good ol' Crayolas.
Lovely holiday snaps. You are not a large lady at all, silly girlie! I'm trying to figure out what the weather was like as The Mister is sunning himself in shorts and T'shirt yet you're swaddled up like Scott of The Antarctic lol!!!
Ang x
Such a clever take on the challenge, Darnell. Love it. Thanks to you I played at JUGS in the last round. Hope to join in this one too.
Beautiful vacay pictures BTW... I agree with your son to include yourself in your pictures. Looking good. š
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! š Trina xx
That looks like a fun trip! Thanks for sharing your awesome pictures and stories with us! Your crayon card is fun!
Cute and "color"ful card. Love it. Thanks for sharing the photos of your little vacay in Oregon.
We do have a beautiful coast which you've shown beautifully in these pictures, Darnell! I spent many summers as a child at Cannon Beach & when we lived in Portland we visited Astoria pretty often. Now we stick to the southern coast--lots fewer people. What a fun card! Congrats again on GD for JUGS!
A super card and really great photos from your trip. Crackers is fabulous - I'd like to meat him :-) Lovely to see pikkies of both of you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Fabulous GD card, love the shine on those nostalgic crayons! Gorgeous photos - love the huge hydrangea bushes and Crackers is sooooo cute! A craft shop too - how perfect! I am glad you had such a lovely time! Hugs xxxxxxxxxxx
Beautiful card Darnell!! I love the glossy finish. Beautiful photos of your vacation. So nice to see a local craft store. Glad you had a lovely time. And thank you for sharing your pics.
Such a fun card and beautiful photos. Thanks so much for my card. I've not opened it yet - it's sat on the mantle waiting. Eeek!
Hugs,
Em xoxox
Brings back fond memories, Dolly! I always loved colouring when I was a child. I was pretty good about staying inside the lines too. :) Great way to use the colours from the challenge. The gloss adds lots of shine.
Wonderful photos of your trip. Looks like you had a bit of overcast weather along with the smoke. No matter what the weather and skies, nothing beats being by the ocean (... maybe being in the bakery!). :) xx
A super card Darnell, such a great take on the theme - congratulations on your guest designer spot.
Lovely photographs - I hope you had a wonderful holiday.

Those crayons bring back great memories of the many hours I spent coloring as a child--so vivid.
I'm so glad you took time off--delightful as your craft cottage may be--to just browse amongst all those craft goodies, plus spend QT time on a "date" with the Mister. Indeed, LITS!
Most of all, I enjoy your "punny" write-ups; they always "quack me up". šš
Hi Darnell. Meeting you has been a pleasure and a delight even if it was through the internet. I enjoyed reading about Mister and Crackers..I must say you crack me up hehe. I am now following you and thank you for following me and leaving a comment. I hope you will stop by often just to read a bit and maybe even find a smile.
I loved my crayons just like these, Darnell ... your card took me right back to those lovely colouring-in memories ... it's fabulous and fun ... and thank you! Your photo's are (as always!) brilliant ... such a dramatic coastline ... and what a treat to have found a real craft store ... Kevin must've waited a loooooooong time for you to get done in there! LYAMYLALMAHYWIGW! Big hugs across the miles, my friend, and bisous, Anita :)
Super fun use of the colors. I do love crayons :)
Loving the crayon card , right away brought me back to schooldays!
Your trip looks amazing, and I must say wearing a light coat sounds nice about now! Looks like you two love birds had a great time.
Your crayon card is great and who doesn't love crayons. You coloured it well and the boldness is great. I love Crackers...he looks so funny and determined. Great pictures and I can't believe how huge that hydrangea bush is
Your posts are so good for the soul Darnell. I know I have said it before, but they are! You never fail to being a smile to my face and quite often a huge belly laugh! Firstly, those crayons, goodness me I feel old seeing them. They bring back so many memories, I may even have some squirrelled away somewhere!! I didn't notice the sentiment wasn't centred until you mentioned it šš. And then the vacay photos! Dough Dough is a brilliant name for a bakery, that gull is cute and it's a good job I wasn't drinking my tea when I read the bit about Mister in his tie and shorts. You are priceless! Hugs, Lisa xx
Congratulations on your GD spot, Darnell! Love the fun card with those glossy Crayolas. Great vacation photos too~thanks for taking us along :-)
These crayons are so cute!! LOVE that you used primary colors on them. I always have such a hard time using these colors but you rocked the challenge!! I love your Oregon photos. I want to visit there some day. Totally love the Crackers photo. Isn't nature wonderful?
Love those super shiny wax crayons, Darnell! Your road trip looked wonderful. It's nice when you get to meet some locals, even if they are seagulls š. We're usually behind the camera rather than in front of it too.
