Encrusted Embellies

Hello Stamplings!

If you aren't into mixed media, you might be thinking, "Oh, dear, that is too bad. She's left her embellishments out in the rain and now they've all become encrusted." Or you might think I have some new medical condition and you're hoping it's not contagious!

I'm good, thank you, and I'm tickled to share some playthings with you from my recent holiday adventures:

Onefer
I should have taken a photo of my beautiful encrusted birds from the side so you can see the stunning texture and dementia from another angle. The colors and schparkle are really bedazzling IRL. This is a cool technique I played with during the ESCR get-together. It's not the kind of card you can send in the mail unless you want to ship it like a teacup made of the finest china and pay a small six figure ransom. Instead, my little friend Verna is sadly back in the hospital again so I will give it to her when I visit tomorrow.

Making encrusted embellies for your cards involves lots of layers of embossing powders and glitters and flakes of anything ranging from red pepper to snow. I mean, if you want. There are no limitations and if you can't get the pancake griddle out of your husband's sight, you can use your heat gun. For more information, Mr. U. Tube can help you or, better yet, you can visit Lolly and she'll explain it better than I can.

Here's a birthday card with an encrusted butterfly I made using the same technique:

EditorialWell That's a Fine Kettle of Fish

By now we all know about the Blogger issues with comment notifications no longer appearing in our inboxes, but has anyone noticed that we all now seem to be "no reply bloggers?" A "no-reply blogger" is a blogger who hasn't entered his/her email information in settings and that means their readers are unable to click on their underlined names in a comment to send an email reply in response to any questions.

I noticed this week that all of you who have left comments are now classified as "no reply bloggers" when I know some of you weren't before. I'm assuming this is another protection we have been given by Blogger thanks to GDPR even if we didn't request it. I know I shouldn't complain because it's a free service, but it would be so easy for them to send out a mass mailing to let us know when changes are made, why, and if we can override them.

Having said all that, my research is not scientific and I could be wrong. To test whether my suspicions are right or wrong, I would like to know what happens when you click on my name in any comment I leave on your blog. I'm way behind in my visits, so the next time I leave you a comment, when you click on my name a normal email box should open. I have set up my settings so that my email address should appear in the top line. Does it? Or on the address line does it say my name, followed by "noreply-comment@blogger.com" for my address?

I hope I'm wrong and my email address appears as it should. I'll feel like a silly old fool, but I'm okay with that. If it doesn't appear, then my (and your) settings have been circumvented!

Sorry for the rant, but I enjoy the social aspects of blogging as much as I do sharing my cards and I'll be very sad if the new rules impact us innocents and reduce or prevent us from being able to easily connect with each other as we've been able to do for many years.

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!

  2. I just tried clicking on your name and it just took me to your Blogger profile page *sigh*. Not that the no-reply thing was ever foolproof - I have my email details in my settings and yet only a few people seem to ever have been able to reply to me by email. Same thing the other way round - when people commented on my blog AND I GOT EMAILS notifying me, the few who were able to reply to my comments by email also came through in a way that I could reply to the notification emails and it would go straight to them - that doesn't happen any more. So frustrating!
Anyway back to the important stuff, those wonderful encrusted embellies, they are all kinds of gorgeousness, especially that butterfly. Stunning!

  3. BLOGGER? Meh! I've long since given up wondering why they make some of the "improvements" they do and just ..... suck it up! If it ain't broke, why do they keep fixing it!?!??!?!

Still, like Jane says, back to the important stuff ... two fabbylicious cards today, Darnell. So sorry to read about our friend being in hospital, I hope she will love your card though and soon be back on the road home again!

    Happy Wednesday

  4. Beautiful cards, Darnell! I have never seen this technique before— it looks very interesting.
I’m not sure if I quite understand the “no reply blogger thing,” but on my published comments page for my blogger, when I click on your name, it takes me to a page with your name, photo and contact info.

  5. Two beautiful cards Darnell, and this encrusted multi layer heat embossing is so pretty, and love the 'c' shaped frame for the gorgeous birds, and the dry embossed background looks great with the lovely marbled butterfly. The last time you commented on my blog was the last Twofer Challenge and am not sure if that was prior to the new privacy laws, but pressing your name took me to your blogger page and I could look at your blogs or further down on the left pressing 'e-mail' allowed me to send you an e-mail. I also tried pressing your comment at the start of the list here and that worked in exactly the same way, but maybe I am not understanding what you mean as my computer knowledge is somewhat limited. x

  6. Gorgeous cards!! Not sure what blogger is doing, but it seems to me that everytime an update is done there is always a problem with it.
    Have a great day!

  7. Beautiful mixed media embellies, Darnell. I especially love the butterfly one. But then, I am a bit partial to butterflies. The marbling is just lovely.
On May 28th, when I clicked on your name from a comment that made it to my inbox, it shows no reply blogger. I think you are correct in that everything reverted to that. Darn. A friend of mine said she read that Blogger is trying to fix the issue where comments are not being emailed to authors. Maybe they will tweak that, too. Fingers and toes crossed. Hugs!

  8. I'm Sonja and I don't like new rules on blogger! I don't have nothing to hide. And I like to be in contact with my blogland friends. So... finally t I have said this...

And now to the bright side of life - to your cards. :-) Wonderful technique this layered embossing. I like the effect very much. And your cards are fabulous.

    Have a nice day!
    Hugs,
    Sonja

  9. These are fabulous cards, what a wonderful technique and you have used them perfectly, how FUN!! Good old blogger, what more can I say!!

  10. Beautiful cards, as always, Darnell. I've only ever been taken to someone's Blogger or Google+ profile page when I've clicked a name. Never tried right clicking but that might bring up the email?
    Hugs,
    Em xoxo

  11. Love the encrusted embellies! I’ll bet the dementia on those birds is wonderful :) yes, good ol’ Blogger if there’s a way to screw us they will. And I was just going to get to blogging(new iPad!) Many hugs Nan and the Girls

  12. Yep like others clicking on the name or the picture takes me to that person’s profile page. Maybe blame it on the EU they started all this crap.

  13. Oh dear Darnell... my first thought was that you might be in need of a Q-tip, and alcohol!! Then I was bedazzled by these sparkling birds-on-a-wire and I'm happy to say the ewwww was replaced by OHHHHH!
Thanks for entrusting us with your encrusted beauty at CTS!
now... for that issue of no-reply - your first line, as received in my email box reads: noreply+feedproxy@google.com

  14. Hi Darnell! I love embellishing almost as much as layering, so your post today was a joy and a hoot! Such beautiful embellies, and gorgeous cards. Your posts always bring a smile. Thanks for the reminder to embellish my diecuts! Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Love your beautiful cards Darnell, especially the butterfly one. The colors in the marbling are so pretty.
I don't like the new way blogger is doing either. I like to receive the comments by email so I can reply. I hope they fix that issue.
    Have a wonderful day.

  16. What a unique and amazing technique and looking forward to seeing lots more of them with all the wonderful creations you made when you were away crafting. Both cards are beautiful and sorry to hear that your friend Verna is back in hospital. This layering of the embossing powders, flakes etc is so addictive and I love it too. Thank you for joining in this fun challenge at The CAS Mix Up Challenge with your amazing card x I too have noticed that some bloggers that used to come up with their addresses etc are now no-reply-bloggers...All these changes and most of them not for the better x

    ReplyDelete
  17. What a super way to decorate your cards with those beautiful embelishments! You really did have a good time; new technique is always so great :)! Hugs, Gerrina

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh boy, the depth and texture on your embellies is amazing. Certainly can see why one wouldn't sent them through the mail...crushing all that gorgeousness would be a crime.
As for this GDPR crap and my lack of technical knowledge, I feel reall put upon by these recent changes. I'm with you...the social aspect of bloging is important to me and I feel discouraged that it has all been taken away. NUTS! I'll give your test a try though.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Another terrific technique to try and what great results you got. The birds just glitter and your butterfly card is stunning. I wish I could help with blogger but the only things I know about it are things you taught me! I'm still trying to change my email address at the bottom of a comment that says choose an identity where it says email follow-up comments with an email address. The one that shows is the one I had when I joined blogger and is no longer used. When I click on your comment I get your profile page.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Your encrusted creations look stunning and fabulous, I have to learn this technique!!! :D Thanks for sharing your works and the YouTube tutorial!
Love so much especially the butterfly, WOW, such amazing ancient feel!
Yes, it's how you says: noreply-comment@blogger.com
The new european laws are very annoying. My mailbox is always full of unwanted mails as spam etc etc but my blog friends are blocked by stupid privacy issues :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. Another new to me technique! Love these mixed media encrusted creations!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Your cards are so beautiful and I love the dimension and encrusted look of your designs. As to commenting, I have the same issues. Also when you leave me a comment I can now get it in my email if I leave myself a comment and mark the box where it says to send Email Follow-up Comments to (my email addy) but I could not send a reply back to you as you are a No Reply Commenter. If it changes the next time you leave me a comment I will let you know. This sure is upsetting to everyone they change our ways of visiting like we did before.

  23. Two beautiful cards with your encrusted jewel die-cuts, Dolly! This such a fun technique and no two will turn out alike. Love the sweet row of birds. This card will cheer up your friend Verna. Hope she is doing well and will soon be home.

The butterfly is so pretty. Love the colours and the marbled effect. I clicked on your name in your last email reply and it took me directly to your Google profile. So far, so good with that part of the changes. Love, Lolly

  24. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card with us at CAS Mix Up! L.L.

  25. Hi Darnell, Both cards arelovely and that technique is fab.

I've never got email notifications. I have always just looked to see if I have any comments to authorise. Hope you an get your problem sorted. Sue

  26. Howdy you encruster, you. Looks like you had a LOT of fun doing all those pieces. As for blogger. Eh.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Love seeing your encrusted jewels pieces from our retreat being turned into cards. I have one in the works right now that I hope to post soon. Love what you did with those beautiful birds on the branch - they look perfect sitting in that partial circle.

As for silly blogger - it all boggles my mind. I just do what Loll tells me to do!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. First up, when I clicked on your name on a comment you made on my blog, your Blogger profile came up, showing your three blogs.... Yes, I noticed the 'no comment blogger' now shows for everyone - I really do wish they would stop messing us around!!

I really LOVE your crusted birds and the butterfly looks beautiful too, and what a lot of embellies you have to use now. It looks like you had lots of fun creating those!!

So sorry to hear that Verna is poorly again, I hope she does not have to spend too long in hospital and that she recovers reasonably well.... Big hugs, Annie xxx

  29. Oh my Auntie, I am loving this encrusted technique! So cool looking and I bet to depending on what all you use, it is sparkly! Your bird card is so pretty and I can see all the texture on those birds. Love that butterfly, so completely different looking but again I can see the texture on it. Love this! When I click on your name, I get sent to your Blogger: User Profile Dashboard that shows your picture, the "contact me", your web page, when you started blogging, the blogs you are on and the blogs you follow. Hope that helps! Love and hugs, Brenda

  30. We unfortunately live in a world of fix it for the few. I won't go on. Having worked in a bureaucracy for many years - the mentality of not getting sued wipes out common sense - in my opinion.

Your encrusted pieces are such lovely gems. I do love thicker embossing and I'll have to check it out for details. Fabulous cards.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I will have to try that blogger thing because I have not notices. However, your cards are AMAZING!! I remember doing this technique eons ago and now you make me want to try-I think. It can get a bit messy as I remember-one reason embossing is not my thing. Your cards are lovely, though and I like all the creations you made!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Two gorgeous cards, Darnell! This technique is amazing! And I love all the beautiful embellishments you made! I am your new following, coming by Liz's blog. Kisses, my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Two wonderful and beautiful cards! Love whatever you did to those birds and the butterfly to make it so pretty. See, that's how much I know about mixed media! Yikes! I love your cards though and maybe one of these days I'll venture into that technique because it's so lovely.
As far as Blogger......oh goodness......life is too short to worry our pretty little heads about it I think. Someday they'll get it all straightened out - and then something else will go screwy with it. It keeps us young and on our toes! Or at least on our toes...... (Smile)!

    Lynn

  34. Well aren't these embellies nifty! The birds are extra fun and I like your fancy butterfly. Beautifully done Darnell!

    ReplyDelete
  35. And then there's autocorrect! Your birds have dementia?! No way! (pretty sure you meant dimension) They're gorgeous! I get tired of all the changing, for sure. It's always better for them but not for us. I'm with wordpress so the change might be different but I'll check next time!

    ReplyDelete
  36. your crusty old crows look wonderfully bejeweled and bedazzled and the butterfly marbling is exquisite :)
we had so much fun making our encrusted card ornaments didn't we.

I'm still somewhat of a blogger newbee so haven't noticed many of the changes other than the notifications. Thanks for the updates.

    ReplyDelete
  37. All the embellishments you made are pretty awesome. It must have been fun to do all that heat embossing with friends. I can only imagine the oohs and aahs and intermittent giggles. Both your cards are wonderful. You've showcased those embellishments beautifully.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gorgeous encrusted birds, Dolly. Your little friend will Love her card. When I clicked on your photo on your last recent reply to my last card it took me to your profile. So ok here. Hugs..

  39. Oh Darnell you and Hammy have been so busy - has he been helping finding things to glaze?? I hope so, you could have really interesting found objects in your embossing. Fabulous cards!
I went to your blogger profile, but your email link on there did not open anything ....

  40. This is a very different technique and one that I shall have to explore further. I love your gorgeous cards that you've made and the embellishments.

    Sue xx

  41. You do have some rather lovely encrustations, Darnell ... both the especially texture-y flock of birds and the smoother, marble-y, elegant butterfly. I'd love to see this technique in action! Blogger ... sorry, can't help with that one, being on Wordpress. However, you appear in my Feedly list just as always ... and without a 'no-reply blogger' notice at the top of the post. Also, when you leave me a comment, your email comes up as it should (though your blog link no longer does, though I guess that's because you've changed how you leave a comment). The silliness must be limited to blogger. Could always change to Wordpress!! LYAMYMA ... SYMFDTM! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)

  42. Gorgeous cards Darnell ..... I love your encrusted embellies. The birds look amazing, so much texture, and I love the butterfly.
Don't get me going on Blogger ...... it's driving me nuts!! The last comment I had from you Darnell was back in May before all this hooha, started and your email shows up just fine.
Since all this fuss with the GDPR I've noticed my Blog traffic falling off and comments are getting less and less these days. Now maybe that is GDPR .... or maybe it's just my Blog!!
    Take care hun xx

  43. When I click your name it takes me to your profile... From there I can access you, if you know what I mean.
I love your encrusted embellies! Beautiful cards Darnell and so pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Love, love, love your encrusted critters! They make a very special card! Sorry to hear that Verna is in the hospital again. I know your visit will cheer her!

I evidently do Blogger differently than you do. When I click on your name in the comments, it takes me to your profile page and your email is there. If I click on that, a window to send an email pops up with your name on it. It does come up in Outlook not Gmail. I don't ask for email notification.

When I click on my name in your comments, my profile page comes up with email listed below my avatar. I'm guessing that goes to my email?

I wish they would quit "fixing" stuff that works fine to begin with!

BTW, thanks for sharing your "crusties" with us at CAS Mix Up!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Your embellies are excellent! I bet it was fun to watch them melt and blend together, especially with crafty friends around to enjoy it with you. So sorry to hear that your friend is back in the hospital. I had that Blogger problem when I tried someone the other day that previously, I could email. I thought maybe she changed a setting, but it sounds like we all did!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Aaahhh, memories! Both of your encrusted jewel pieces are beautiful, Dolly. I remembered how sparkly and gorgeous your trio of birds on the branch looked and using it for the CC&S sketch is perfect. Love it. Thank you for joining us at Less is More. xx

  47. Gorgeous cards, Darnell. Interesting embellishments. Thank you for joining us at CAS on Friday. Luv, Wilma

  48. Such lovely cards.
I haven't had time to look at the recent changes to blogger. I am rather frustrated that even though I am clicking from my blog I have to be signed in to goodgle to leave comments on most peoples blogs makes using a blog to leave comments rather pointless I think.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Amazing technique!! it is incredible the texture and dementia! (giggles) you created! wowie!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Darnell, oh it’s all so frustrating this blogger thing isn’t it. I have wordpress and have done a lot of changes to my blog for GDPR so need to investigate whether there are similar issues, especially as I changed my subscription mailer recently. On that note, not sure if you saw my blog post asking you to resubscribe. I would hate you to think I had popped my clogs and was no longer creating!! Your two cards are gorgeous, the birds look amazing with their crustiness! I need to try and see whether I can attempt this! And the marbled butterfly is lovely. I have tried that Technique before and couldn’t get it to work with my powders. Sigh. I’ll have another go! It’s really pretty when the powders mix. Sending hugs your way, Lisa xx

    ReplyDelete
  51. Simply stunning, both cards. I love the pastel shades of your encrusted pieces, giving a pearly look that I adore. I like the transition for the branch too. So much harmony in both pieces. BEAUTIFUL!!
Thanks for joining us at CAS Mix Up! xx

No reply bloggers: well I clicked on your name, brought me to your profile where your email can be found. Wish I could find a solution for my Wordpress restraint. I understand the why to all this, I just wish they could send us the REPAIR to get back to my NORMAL. Glad you asked, thought I was special case ;) lol

    ReplyDelete
  52. This technique makes fantastic embellishments and looks like the MOST fun to play at! How awesome they'd look on a picture frame or box or something. Your birds and butterfly and, ohhhh, everything in the photo are gorgeous! Blogger... an unfortunate turn of events. When I click on your name it takes me to the same page as always and there's your blog list and email link. It's the only way to email a reply. Frustrating! I emailed a whole bunch of replies (including one to you) before I realized they weren't going anywhere. They don't come back as undeliverable or show up in sent items, either. They simply disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I've done a few bits of mixed media - mostly the gelli plate - but these are quite spectacular. I bet you had a whale of a time playing around with that and getting messy. I will have a look at the whole Google thing. I hate not getting the emails to say I've got a comment either.... xx

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wow! These cards look so cool, Darnell! Can't wait to see how the embellishments were made... heading over to Loll's place. Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well, you ladies obviously just had WAY too much fun making your plethora of encrusted beauties! I love your birds - and that beautiful butterfly too! Julia xx

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've heard about the encrusted technique but have never seen it up close before. Well, as close as my laptop screen will let me. It's so beautiful and I LOVE that you managed to find a place for them on this week's sketch! Hoping to see more encrusted beauties from you!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Could you hear me going "ooh" and "aah"...these encrusted embellies are stunning. (and my fav is the butterfly, but I do love those birds!) What fun you guys had in your retreat, and what smashing new skills you showed each other. You've put this technique to super duper use here! Love both of 'em. One of these days I might get a chance to try it. Still haven't managed the faux enamel yet! TFS the update on blogger. I was able to click on your comment with your name, and come to your blog. So you didn't show as a no-blogger. However, I'm looking at comments made on the blog since no email notices. I've tried the comment right after I publish, that hasn't helped. So as Churchill said "KBO". The win10 will come...I just have to be patient and don't get annoyed because 'normal things' are taking me longer to figure out how to do. But I shall. Keep. Positive! I didn't expect delivery to be as fast as it was. And it's the simple things that are bogging me down. (like shutdown - on the 1st night here! But Google is hep-ful!) TFS & hugs. Have a great weekend.

  58. Great texture on these cards!

  60. Your diecuts are fantastic, Darnell! I particularly love the jewel-encrusted trio of birds on your first card, they’re so glittery! Thanks for the heads-up about the no-reply emails. I think we’ve all been turned into no-repliers. Every email notification I clicked 'reply' to was a no-reply, even for people who definitely had their settings right before Blogger interfered again.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh my, Darnell, I trust your medical condition isn't contagious, especially across the internet. ;) What an exotic effect that technique gives to your die-cuts! That crusted, marbled look to your butterfly is incredible. It could easily work as a lovely broach. Love it! Great card! Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

  62. Wow Darnell... You are beginning to be such a pro at mixed media! Really love those birds and the butterfly too. I can imagine how amazing the texture and shine looks in real life! You've used some of my favorite colors too! Thanks for joining us at Less Is More!

  63. Got here eventually, I need to retire so I can spend all day crafting a visiting blogs instead of working! Hmphhh!
What gorgeous cards! Loving those birds, the textures and colour mixes looks awesome, and the close up of your butterfly made me 'ooooh aaaah'.
Thanks so much for sharing with us at Less is More, Anita x
And don't get me started on GDPR, facing it daily at the office and it's driving me bonkers...still! xx

  64. That technique is so cool and I can see all the texture and glitter on the birds, Darnell. The butterfly is also gorgeous. I don't have a lot of glittery, flaky stuff but I do need to try this again with a griddle instead of my heat gun.
