My Reminder Cards for TCC #8!

Hello Stamplings!

Happy to see you whooshing in here on Friday, where I'm reminding you that we are halfway through the current Geometric challenge at Twofer Card Challenge. You have until the end of day on August 24th to play in this super fun and super challenging way to stretch your design skills!

This time I used a triangle stamp as a petticoat for a rhinoceros! Stop it, no, I didn't. (Although ...!)

This time I wanted to show you that you don't need to make your stamp or die do things you never dreamed your stamp or die could do in order to play in Twofer, so I used a triangle stamp as a - gasp - triangle stamp for both my CAS designs!
The triangle used on both cards is from PTI's Sketched Shapes.

Onefer
I needed a masculine Thinking of You card for a friend who is under the weather, so poor Hammy had to sit this one out to keep the foo-foo to a minimum. I strategically placed the triangle to represent an arrow pointing to the sediment. I underscored the sediment and added an arrow from the same stamp set to point to the YOU. A colorful plaid mat adds some cheer-up coloring.

For my second design, I kept things rainbow colored and marched my triangle across the OLC using an acrylic block, first in one direction and then back the other way, alternating colors as I went. In order to cover up the not-so-neat edges of the stamped horizontal panel, I thinly cut and added two slices of black mirri card to either side.

Using the same shiny black, I die-cut and added the "enjoy" sediment from Penny Black and topped it off with a cupcake and candle from GKW. I also gave Hammy his own cupcake since he didn't get to go all winky on these cards.

  1. Yay - I'm first.... I am so glad you gave Hammy a cupcake for his restraint with the glitter and glam. I hope he didn't get indijestion from it???
Love your cards Darnell, especially the second one with the overlapping triangles.
Fancy you behaving yourself and making two conventional cards.... I have some plans that i hope to get onto card this weekend... time will tell if I am successful.
    Blessings

  2. Fun cards, Darnell.
Looks like sitting this one out really took its toll on Hammy, since he looks a lot paler than I remember him. Good thing you are giving him some schweet schtuff to recover.

  5. Wonderful examples of the challenge, Darnell. I really like the use of the triangles, especially on the second card. So fun. I almost spit out my drink when I saw the picture of "you" holding the mini cupcake for Hammy! That is hilarious! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Hugs! :)

  7. Two terrific twofer cards Darnell and they might be conventional but still very inventive designs. I think you should have given Hammy a bib with that scrummy little cupcake. x

  9. I always gasp when I see ‘geometric’ as a theme and steer well clear, it really scares me!! But you have shown us how to make it not so scary...but still a little for me!! I really like the CAS design and how you used the stamp as an arrow...inspired! And fab use of the rainbow colours for our Ink challenge. You know the rainbow take on this p, I missed. I think this is why photo challenges are my fav as I am always interested in how we all pick out different elements. I find it quite fascinating...yes I know, I am kinda weird!! Great to see toy at Ink and Time Out xx

  10. Looks like Hammy enjoyed his cupcake. :)
Love both of your geometric card designs, especially the one with the rainbow of colors and yummy looking cupcake. TFS

  11. What a great male card using geometrics. I love the plaid paper too. A fun use of the triangles all across and back in beautiful colors. The black mirri really makes them pop. I know Hammy is happy with his cupcake treat. I have to be careful giving Molly bites of my treats otherwise she would become diabetic!

  12. You have used this triangle well, my friend! I love how you've used it to make a plaid! The single triangle is perfect for a guy! I think Hammy was probably well pleased with the cupcake. He can double up on the glimmer next time!

  13. Love that rainbow of triangles on the cupcake card (I want a cupcake!!!) and the way the colours overlap and blend. The other one is a great trendy masculine card. You are so good at these Twofers (as you should be since it's your challenge!) but I struggle - finally had an idea for this geometric one so hope to have time this weekend.

  14. I really love both of these cards Darnell, I have not seen that stamp set from PTI in a long time, it was always a favourite. Love the rainbow of triangles! Hope your summer is going well--mine is literally disappearing. I haven't been around a lot, it has been a bit of a tough one for me.

  21. August 24!!! I better get busy...totally lost this one in my pea brain somewhere so thanks for the reminder. Love your CAS vibe on the first card and the pp is the perfect cheery touch. The second card is pretty awesome with all that color and the shiny cardstock. Love that sentiment...which brings me to Hammy ability to eat a cupcake. I had no idea he'd like it....hmmm.

  22. Two brilliant cards, Darnell, such clever ways of using the triangle stamp. The arrow really draws the eye to the sentiment on your first card and the black strips on the second card highlights the lovely stamped triangle panel. xx

  25. Love these awesome geometric cards. Triangles are a favorite geometric shape of mine - I have a "thing" for the Pythagorean Theorem. I think both these cards would work for a masculine human. Thanks for the inspiration. I always need ideas for the men in my life.

  28. Yep, great minds on that triangle stamp, Darnell! Mine were all monochrome-y ... yours are deliciously rainbow-y, bright and downright happy. I'd still love to see that petticoat if ever you get the chance to make it :). Good to see Hammy has a balanced diet ... he's holding that cupcake in both paws! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Time Out! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)

  31. Fun triangle cards, Darnell - just love the graphic look of card one and all the colorful overlapping triangles on card two!!

  32. Both cards are really fun, Darnell! The first just shows you can let a simple element take centre stage to make a great card! It looks so simple but can be so difficult to achieve the less is more look!!! Love the use of the triangles on the cupcake card. Fantastic background strip! Thanks so much for joining us at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week!

  34. The pattern you created for your second card looks trendy and like it was made sketching with pencils. Very cool and colorful. Your first card also looks modern, and fun too.

  35. Love your cards! I have a triangle die I hardly use, but when I do, I always like how it turns out. Thanks for the inspiration! Also, great challenges to join!

  36. Good ole Hammy for keeping you on the right track to avoid too much schparkle and schine. I love the simplicity of this and the rainbow vibe going on. xx

    ReplyDelete
  37. Two super cards and great designs with your triangle stamp and I hope Hammy enjoyed his cupcake xx

  38. I have that set and am always thankful for ideas on how to use it! Thank you! Love both ways you used this triangle but especially the fun border!

  39. That panel with the overlapping rainbow triangles is so attractive, Darnell. Using the strips was a great way to edge them off and call attention to them. I love that plaid DP that brings out the color of the stamping. Or does the stamping bring out the color of the DP? ;)

  40. Love your cards, Darnell, especially that clean and simple first one. What a cleverly designed masculine card. The shapes and coloursin the background designer paper are the perfect compliment to those on the front. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

  45. Thank goodness you gave Hammy his own little cupcake so I don't have to start feeling sorry to him! Love the way that candle is blowing sideways for all it is worth.

  46. Well, first you made me spew my morning coffee. A petticoat for a rhinoceros! Hmmm... it could work and I know YOU could do it. However, you've made these creative and colorful cards instead and I love the twofer of them. The plaid in #2 goes perfectly with the graphics.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oops, I meant "the plaid in #1", but also love the stamped design in #2. Did I get it straight this time? Sheesh!

  48. Amazing what you can do with a simple triangle - love both of your cards and the rainbow of colors you used. So good to see Hammy - but he looks a bit pale - has he been getting enough sunshine???
