Hello Stamplings!
Happy Sunday! I am making amazing progress in my CAP proceedings! That's Clean and Purge. (Haha, sorry, I have Aacckronymitis!) When I've taken a break to surf your posts, I see that a lot of you are doing the same. It's all very revitalizing, isn't it?
Of course, you know this means the Big House will be next. We did a complete remodel in 2007 and I just realized that the small cupboards over the refrigerator have not been opened since then! Obviously, I don't need to keep whatever is up there and it's not the only crevice that should be emptied. My new thinking is that empty shelves are okay. Just because I have room for something doesn't mean I have to save it for Justin Case!
But that's not why you called. Even as much fun as organizing is, I can't help but stop and get a card fix every now and then. Here's a quick Onefer I made to keep my toe in.

Using an MFT stitched circle, I die-cut a hole in some glossy paper. Then I masked off a panel and sponged circles using a stencil, a large dauber, and Oxies. I die-cut a globe die from MFT out of pp and glued it in place inside the circle. Hammy helped by lightly washing the sea with blue.
The MFT globe has words underneath (it's a one-piece die) that says, "You mean the world to me." I didn't have room to put all that under the globe, so I scrambled the letters to make the word "wonder" and attached them to a strip of vellum.

An Idea
I was wondering how you would feel if you received a handmade card that was just a beautiful card front with a written message on the reverse, like a postcard, except that it would be enclosed in an envelope with a stamp on it so you would still have the fun of opening an envelope?
Not counting one-layer cards, I'm thinking that the most fun I have making cards is creating the front and not the part where I have to prepare and score a card base to attach it to. If I skipped that step, I would be saving lots of time and trees. It especially seems like a good idea for batch-making birthday cards and Christmas cards because I make so many of them.
What are your honest thoughts? Have I lost the plot or am I a genius? Would you be offended, or feel short-changed, or do you think I might be on to something?

This card is a stunner Darnell! I love the globe cut from patterned paper, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteBackless cards, now there's a thought. For most occasions yes, but maybe not for Christmas as so many people like to display their cards by hanging them over a string or ribbon. Actually though I rather enjoy the whole scoring and folding part, even creating the basic card blank gives me a "Look, I made that!" feeling, plus at the moment I am making a definite attempt to remember to decorate the insides of my cards as well as the outside, so while I'd be happy to receive backless cards, I don't think I'll be making them.
Hi Darnell, Love the card.
ReplyDeleteI want to have a good sort out of my flat, but just not done it yet.
I like making the front of the card, but hate doing the inserts. I think it's a great idea, although the person receiving it will have to perch it somehow, or pin it to a board, as it won't stand up on it's own. What would you call them Flat Cards, Flatties.???????
Hope you have a nice day. Sue
What beautiful colours - this is so artsy. I saw it in my blog feed and hoped you'd entered it into City Crafter - I see you have - it's perfect for it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMe too on the cards. I honestly make many cards that I never send out anyway. I do think there are card-makers cards and other cards you'd send to non-crafters! Why not a postcard?
The purge begins today as all the Christmas Decs are down after 12th night, once they are away I have a long list of to do's to make my way through! What a fabulous way to use those papers they have brought a whole new *World* of dimension the scene. Amazing CAS composition Darnell.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year & best wishes for 2019 (and the purge..!)
Creative Hugs Tracey x
Happy New Year Darnell, love this globe card. I put a paper insert in my cards so people could recycle them if they want to, just need to carefully peel away the little strip of double sided tape. But backless cards sound good, if there was such a thing as a postcard stamp it would make it real! Cathy x
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I have to give your question some serious thought, because I like the idea of not having to mess with an inside. It would definitely be something I would have to get used to...but why not a postcard? Beautiful stenciling card BTW! do you want me to send you one and see how it feels? Heart Hugs friend!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely is your card Darnell and what a gorgeous globe love the layout too! hope all goes well with the clean up it's something we all have to do it's tiresome but rewarding once it is take care sending lots of love x
ReplyDeleteA delicious, bright, vibrant pp globe, Darnell ... those bubbles of colour are just perfect with it ... fresh, fun, fabulous! Decluttering ... so theraputic ... and means there's less to do afterwards ... go you! Cards ... a postcard-in-an-envelope style of card is one that used to be in vogue here a lot ... seems to have diminished in popularity now, though they are still around. You may just be onto something ... and start a new trend! LYAMYMA ... big hugs and bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeletePS ... think you have a heap of spammy comments before mine ... no idea what it says of course ... could be sweet words!! A:)
Bright and beautiful card, Darnell. Love the colors and the composition. I don't think I'd mind a post card, but it would be a lot harder to display on the mantel or shelf. Do you have a stack of card bases already made up? I've started doing that and it makes it pretty easy to "finish" the card. Good luck on the CAP proceedings. I should probably do that, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous, cheery well designed card! I like a full card but I have seen postcard stamps and that would work and be attractive.
ReplyDeleteI received a Christmas card that was a post-card design - though mailed in an envelope. Totally gorgeous! My little Card Tree held it perfectly! I wouldn't mind it one bit, D. But I should remind you, it's the inside that comes first in my heart - all about the words. In fact. Next time we are together, remind me to tell you the story of 'it's a wonder!'
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your beautiful world with ours at CTS!
=] M
I'm purging too, it's a bad work, I would prefer enjoying my free time :( LOL :D
ReplyDeleteLovely card with that globe cut out from patterned paper!
Hugs, I'mm in hurry, this is my last day of holidays and have to do a lot of things before back to school :(
I love your colorful world and stenciled dots. Kind of the reverse of Bokeh! I have mixed feelings about your idea of card fronts with the message on the back. If one was going to pop the cards on a board or card tree, it would work great but not so good for standing on a shelf to admire. I don't think anyone would object to getting happy mail either way.
ReplyDeleteThat globe die is awesome and the springy colors you used made it beautiful. Reminds me how small the world is on the internet. I always work on the card panel first, then decide what c/s to use or pattern paper so I would be okay with this. The panel is done, the card is done. I do have one issue though. I color with Copics on most of my cards and that color goes through to the back of the panel. I would have to mount that card front or use another panel behind it. I agree with Bonnie, as most people would be happy to receive something in the mail.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super fab card :-)
ReplyDeleteI could do with a bit of a clear-out !!! I LUV the idea of the one side card :-D xxx
I'll come help you purge. My friends run when I tell them that. I do love to be somewhat minimalist. It doesn't always work but I'm pretty good at it. (Never look in the mister's garage........it's a scary place)
ReplyDeleteI think the flat card idea is great if you're selling them to those that want to sell them again after they put the backing on it. Otherwise I want to display mine.
Love your worldly card. Distress Oxides are so lovely to work with.
Let me be the first to coin your FLAT acronym........Flat Lovely And Thin
[Bunny]`
Love your wonderful card, Darnell, with its very fresh, fun design. It's a beautiful take for all the challenges you're entering. Clearing out is my top priority for this year and not just my card studio, but the closets, cabinets and basement.
ReplyDeleteI think a postcard is a great idea. It would be a lot less work and save trees. Like others have said, it would be perfect for some cards, but not for all. Love your ideas and your blog. Enjoy your day!
Pretty card Darnell. I think receiving a one layer/one piece of paper card would be just fine. Save those trees!!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your purging!
Lynn
Lovely card! The colors are so pretty! I lvoe your card idea!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for doing a clean-out! That's still on my list from last year hehe but I'll eventually get it done. I am reorganizing my dies though. Your card is so pretty, love the colours! As for your question, I prefer the traditional card that opens so I can display it, but I've also received a couple postcards and they were appreciated as well. Best wishes with your clean and purge!
ReplyDeleteJustin Case is alive and living in my house.
ReplyDeleteSo is Mr P. Aper-Mountain and Mrs Aversion Tocleaning
Great card Darnell - and I think I am with you about the card front only - except the backs of mine are usually full of ink and schtuff that's been laying on the desk..... x
Cards without a back are so much easier to photograph and store LOL. I don't mind getting postcards. Would be a postage saving as well. It's a pain when you have a pretty layered front and then having the base card sends it a tiny bit over the cheap seats. Good luck with your purge. I threw away some christmas wrapping paper today that I was gonna keep...... Now I deserve a cup of coffee and a little bit of crafting. Hugz
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun card-love the globe!
ReplyDeleteI definitely think postcard cards
would be a timesaver, tree saving
idea! They may save some postage
for the more layered, embellished cards.
Great idea!
Thanks for your help Darnell, I will try to see if I can do it right next week, LOL, but sure thanks for a helpful tip on the linky tool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and lovely card, thanks for being a great support here at CCCB!
Fab globe card Darnell ! Doesn’t it feel so good to CAP?! I’m still amazed each day how much room I have to move around now in my studio. :) Love the idea of just a card topper ie; postcard type card. In fact, that’s what I’m starting to do. So much easier for me being one-handed now. Mwah! Hugs to you and Hammy from Me and the Girls
ReplyDeleteHello Darnell, and a very Happy New Year to you. Clearing out is always a good thing, it seems to unclutter the mind too.
ReplyDeleteLove your card and yes the world is a wonder, if only the human species weren't destroying it. The colours are fabulous and design too.
Your idea about post card type cards is brilliant, I certainly wouldn't mind, Kate x
Wow, this is stunning, Darnell. Fabulous design and colours. Thank you so much for joining in at CAS Stencil!
ReplyDeleteHehe your acronyms make me smile Darnell!! And that " world " looks delightful
ReplyDeleteCheers
Dr Sonia
You're starting the year out right with this bright, colorful & fun card. I do believe I see a winner. Think your idea of card fronts only is a great idea. The recipient gets the joy of a surprise work of art and the pleasure of hearing from you. Besides that, it's possible to recycle it, slap it on a card base and mail it on to someone else. Win-win.
ReplyDeleteLove this card Darnell! It's simply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous card!! I love the pretty colors!! Good luck with the purge!! I need to do that, too. I love the idea of a one sided card!! Makes total sense to me!! Have a great day!! Big hugs :)

A Mermaid's Crafts
Great card (As always)
ReplyDeleteHey, I like your idea...I wouldn't mind if you send me card that way...
Actually, My neighbor (who comes to my (almost) weekly craft night...
beat you to it...She made her Christmas cards that she handed out to us on craft night that way. It was just a one layer card...(not folded) and she signed it on the back...
As to displaying my cards...I'm lazy so I like to do things the easy way...
I just tie a string along my wall...tied and stretched along my curtain rods...from one curtain rod on the wall to the other...card displayed in between...
and attach my cards with small clothes pins that I have...which would work well with cards that are one layer and cards that are folder on the top, etc.
Jill <who is trying the impossible task of getting organized
WOWZZZER! Love your card!!
ReplyDeleteNow for your question........I think it is a super great Idea, and I would love to be added to your list. I agree, the designing the front is the best part....then the rest it becomes a "task", then there is the "inside" that needs to be dealt with ( started leaving mine blank years ago) That is why I enjoyed sharing post card with Deb for so long.
You are a true genius for coming up with the idea to send card fronts! I'm slapping my forehead right now wondering why that idea never crossed my mind before, but I LIKE it! You could even design the back like a post card!! I might just have to give that a shot one day, thanks for the brilliant idea! Oops - I almost forgot to mention your card!! It looks wonderful and I love the earthy design of it (knee slapper, Bwahahaha!) Don't mind me Darnell, I think the cloud of dust in this craft room has saturated my brain as I rifle through this stash, deciding what to keep and what to purge. So far I'm doing GREAT with procrastination! (hopeless, I know)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your beautiful earth die cut for your Wonder card, Dolly. Hammy did a perfect light wash for the water too. Purging is a wonderful cleansing feeling!
ReplyDeleteIf you sent out only a card front card the receiver could display on a palette and then reuse if they added to a card base. An instant Twofer! Would sure save trees at Christmas time. You might only want to send to card makers. Others might not get the concept or just think you forgot to finish your card..lol!
Love and Hugs, Nancy
Fabulous card! Using patterned paper for the land pieces was brilliant and makes such a pretty design. And how clever to create your own sentiment from the globe lettering. "Wonder" works great! I like your idea of single layer cards though I do like to display mine standing up. I have a bunch of clear display bases that would work though. Must make one and see how that works.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of a purging, cleaning, organizing nut, so that sounds wonderful to me. It's how I've started my new year, too. Making a card is part of cleaning your stamp room, isn't it? Use some supplies and make something awesome like this. Your stenciled sponging is so beautifully done and I love the globe die cut from patterned paper. Clever how you rearranged the letters. As for your question... the card front is the star of the show. Even one additional layer would hide any Copic coloring that might bleed through, and there's plenty of room on the back to write a nice message. Any kind of card I receive means a person was thinking of me and that's a lovely thing. I could no sooner say you should make folded cards than I could say you should make cards with all die cuts or all flowers. It's an individual style choice. I know you make and send a staggering number of cards, so I say go for it. I can't stress enough how I enjoy every single card I receive, no matter the look of it. Think of all the cards that get made and never sent. Now, that's a pity.
ReplyDeleteI think Leslie Miller's comment pretty much says it all regarding how we make our cards.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good time to clean and clear out and reorganize. Sounds like you are doing well with yours Auntie! I love your card, the paper you used for your world is so fun, love Hammy's sponging too! How clever that you used the letters to spell out another word, love that! But my favorite is the sponged polka dots! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteFabulous card for the challenges, Darnell. The colors are lovely and bring spring to mind or is that just wishful thinking. Though it is an almost balmy 61 degrees here today.
ReplyDeleteI save my crafty friend cards and put them in a wall display so not having the cardbase for it to stand on would be no hardship whatsoever. YOu might be the epicenter of a new trend in the cardmaker world.
What a fabulous card - I don't use PP with dies enough! I absolutely LOVE your idea of the card front without the base attached. They are also easier to stick to a board on your wall, which is what I do with most of mine. You go for it! Also save card stock!! xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a great card, love those sharp colours and "wonder" really is the most perfect sentiment. I applaud the idea of a non-folded card, rather like the big brother of an ATC!! xx
ReplyDeleteLove your world card...the colors especially. Your idea sounds good for me as I struggle what to put inside a lot of the time. Maybe not for Christmas cards, though as I display them standing up. Like others said, receiving a card, any card is such a joy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Darnell, I love those colours and the sponged circles! I love the idea of a postcard, it sort of reminds me of those trick cards that don’t open ( you know the ones that say on the back “don’t bother trying to open, there’s no money inside”) LOL. And Justin Case, well he is all over the place here, thanks for telling me his name! I have a lot of Ron’s here! Anyway thanks for sharing your card with us at Less is More.
ReplyDeleteI just adore the colours on the globe, they are so cheering on these very cold and dull after Christmas days... and what a great idea you had with the sentiment! Love your card!
ReplyDeleteAs a child I was just as happy getting a postcard or a card and would most definitely not be offended to receive a front only card. I think it is a great idea and agree it is the most fun part of the card to create. Hugs, Annie xxx
What a wonderful patterned paper to use for a world map, Darnell. I made slider cards for my grandkids for Christmas to include a gift card and I only did the front since one of the slide-outs had my name on it. I print sentiments in all my cards so I will continue to make the entire thing but I'd accept a card that is just a front from any one of my creative blog friends.
ReplyDeleteYou are a GENIUS ! I love your idea of 'postcard in an envelope' card . I keep all cards received for inspiration when my feeble brain can't come up with anything. Storing single panel cards in a proper sized basket would be a cakewalk. I sure hope your idea catches on!
ReplyDeleteLu C
Beautiful "World of Wonder" card. That pattern was just perfect for your globe. As to postcard-type cards in an envelope, it would be harder to add our "handmade by..." stamps. It would also be riskier to enclose a check or even a little cash (which I hesitantly do on occasion for my grands), as it might be detectable through the envelope. I really don't mind creating my card interiors, now that I have enough stamps, tools and cardmaking knowledge to do so. I know postage is really getting expensive, though, so that's a big vote for your idea. And I have a number of nieces and nephews who send out those photo cards for Christmas, and they're almost always just a flat piece of cardstock. It seems we could do a mix, see if we get any feedback and go from there.
ReplyDeleteJust in case has taken over several rooms in our house and it is time to make him not so welcome!...we have started with the Christmas decs and as they have gone in to the roof space we have parted company with those that never see the light of day...you watch ...this year come December we will want something that has gone!!..lol Wish I could be as strong with the craft stuff! Love your world card Darnell...let hope this year is a better one for all of the world! Hugs xx
ReplyDeletehi dear Darnell,
ReplyDeleteI saw this in the playground so popped over to say Hi. I’ve almost made a card for Lolls’s new challenge ...actually two! But not a two fee. It’s funny / sad how new one starts and an old one ends isn’t it?
A grand card, do love the colours. And the Bokeh look..
The design is excessively clever too, who’d have thought your wonder word came fro something else. I’ve a set of small alphabet dies I must dud out one day. Yes I need you to come and do cull, the house has and still being done as is the craft room. I’m cleaning boxes in house of which ther were eigh and now one but lost inspiration.
Re card idea, I think they both have a place. Mrs A does that on her cards sometimes when upcyclign an old card.
Personally I think writing of nice lengthy greeting with loving thoughts inside is important and also like to include a verse to encourage somewhere.
Have a new blog ..second link below I’d love you to pop over and join in if you possibly have time!
A new year idea long thought and prayed about and I’ve taken the plunge. I pray the Lord May bless it.
Sending prayer hugs for every blessing for you in 2019.

Glad your clearing out is going well Darnell, I think I will have to do some of that myself soon. I love your globe and sentiment cut from that bright and pretty paper, and the added stencilled circles in similar shades of blue and lime green look great and love the curved top corners which work so well. I think there is some mileage in the postcard in an envelope idea, but perhaps you could add a strip of card fixed to the back to use as a strut to make it freestanding. Maybe this would take as much time as cutting, scoring and folding card for a base which would defeat the object, but love your beautifully designed cards however you decide to make them. x
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool idea for the LIM challenge! As for kitchen reorganizing - going through the same motions with getting rid of some of my upper cabinets and replacing them with shelves. Turns out that most of the stuff I have in my kitchen is rarely used, if at all, LOL! Time to change this!
ReplyDeleteCute, CUTE card Darnell! And 5 challenges to boot...I am so impressed!! I love the idea of a card front only card too...the only draw back I can see is that they won't stand up on their own for people who like to display all the birthday or other occasion cards. Although I guess you could lean them against something... I say go for it...the recipients will still be just as happy with a card front as a full card! I mean who doesn't love happy mail!! :0) And yay to you for all the CAP! I'm doing the exact same thing! I started with my kitchen and my sweet hubby bought me a new 2 step ladder (because I seem to be shrinking in height and can't reach the 2nd and 3rd shelves of my cupboards anymore!!) that is really helping me out! I am quite embarrassed to say though that I found products in the backs of my cupboards that had expired in 2013! I really am a clean person and love a neat a tidy house, (except for my stamp desk that is!) but you wouldn't have known it by my cupboards! It feels so good to have them all cleaned out now though...lovin it!! Hope you're having a great start to 2019!! Hugs! :0)
ReplyDeletelife is one big never ending purge :)
ReplyDeleteLove your earth die and your sponged circles, awesome card.
The world is a wonder and it's all the more wonderful with YOU in it! Your card is marvelous and the idea of a postcard is kinda nifty. Maybe someone should create a challenge for that!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!!! Thank you for joining us at City Crafter, good luck!!! Amy DT
ReplyDeleteYour card is wonderful (see what I did there?) . And your card front idea is just fine. It is the front and the message that people want to see, so that fold is a waste of time and paper. In terms of displaying, I bought a couple dozen of those card clips stand-things a few years ago on Amazon and they are still sitting unused in the box. Would be perfect for displaying back-less cards. The jury is back and you're a genius! BTW, thank you for the gorgeous, gorgeous embossed card you sent me and apologies for taking so long to leave a comment saying as much.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, artsy card Dolly! LOVE these bright and cheerful colours. Great work with the sponging! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Stencil, sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about a one layer card. I would love to receive any type of card, but I would probably send most of mine with a base. I like to display the cards I get and they need to stand on their own on the mantel, but could lean them up on something as well. For the number of cards you make and send, it totally makes sense. I know cutting and scoring a card base is extra time and work. I make up a whole bunch in advance and then when I'm ready to create, the base is ready and waiting. I do the same for card inserts as well. Love, Lolly
Love this awesome globe card Darnell - and I am so glad Hammy can now 'do' watercolour washes too... he's learnt well, as the wash looks great to me - my congratulations to him ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, save the trees and your time (and $ in the long run) and send postcard type cards.
Blessings
Maxine
I love these colours, so fresh and bright. I like the postcard idea. I have been asked to make batches of these before. The only thing I would say that it is hard to display these and I love to see the cards sent to me on my coffee tables etc x
ReplyDeleteI surely do hope that there was nothing scary in those cupboards that haven't been opened in a while!
ReplyDeleteFabulous LIM entry and a great take on the theme too
As to the card vs postcard ..... actually, I match the insides and reverse of my card too thus making it way more fun that JUST the front. That said, I see nothing with sending a "postcard" greeting.
Happy 2019 to you and the Mister
Kathyk
Darnell, I love your sponge stencil card - you always give us something different - your world map is great, dies are really diversifying aren't they? Thanks for playing along at the new CAS Stencil challenge.
ReplyDeleteNow for the purging, yep I'm trying to do that around here too, started downstairs with boxes not opened for years, I have to be ruthless, 'cause I'm a bit of a hoarder... makes you feel good though.
Now the no card idea, I think has it's merits, I certainly wouldn't mind getting a postcard - I have a string strung across my craftroom window (and around other spaces in the lounge) and use mini pegs to hang them. I don't have a lot of standing space so it suits well - I'd like to say that I also leave my Christmas cards (and birthday cards) out on display for months - I get weird looks, but people have taken the time to send them out so I can appreciate them for longer, not just one glance and they're forgotten.
Have an absolutely wonderful year, looking forward to reading your fantastic blog posts, you always bring a smile to my face... HUGS
I love the bright zingy paper that you've used for this fantastic card Darnell.
ReplyDeleteSue xx
What a bright and happy card that is! Yet again, I realise that I do not use patterned paper enough. And that is why I got rid of a ton of it last week! I have kept a few packs though and really should get around to using it!
ReplyDeleteThe cards with no backs is an interesting one. I don't think it would bother me too much to receive one like that but someone mentioned Christmas might be a bit more tricky and I think they are right on that as they get displayed differently then.
Not only would you be saving on cardstock, you are saving on postage too - no small issue when it comes to Christmas cards. I almost went broke in December!
Lisa xx
Gorgeous card, Darnell. I love the idea of backless cards xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour card is FABULOUS, Darnell! Love it! And your idea about a 'postcard' type of card...LOVE it! Why have I never thought about that?! lol I wouldn't feel short changed or anything of that nature. To receive a card or 'postcard' or anything crafty from a friend is a pure treat! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs
Everything old is new again! As you know, I've been working through my family's genealogy which includes over 150 years of letters and postcards and photos, oh my! Those postcards, or "postals" as they called them, were many times their own photos or artwork and placed in envelopes! I say, "Go for it!" Now, on to the card: I LOVE the whimsy of that patterned paper paired with the stenciled dots! I LOVE this card!
ReplyDeleteLove your take on the CTS sketch, Darnell! The colours are gorgeous and that paper is cool. I actually thought it was stripes of washi tape!
ReplyDeleteThis house desperately needs a clear out and a purge but so far I've been too busy playing with crafty stuff (gotta go with it while the mojo is cooperating) and reading reading reading! I got a part-time job at a local bookstore and the first thing they did was give me a pile of ARCs to read. I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven!!
As for your card/postcard idea I think it's brilliant especially if you're just sending a short and sweet note. Think how much more cardstock you'll have to play with! And I definitely wouldn't feel short changed - happy mail is happy mail with to without a fold in the middle of it! :)
Fun card Darnell. I am still re-organizing and recently bought new non- slip hangers at Costco - boy what a project.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend of 50+ years and she recycles all my cards. She discards (recycles) the back and uses the front piece and comments that the card was made by her friend Barb. There is a piece you can make and attach to the back of the card to make it stand up.
Idea worth thinking about. :) B
Such a cool card, Darnell! 'Clean and Purge' made me giggle. It's totally what I should be doing lol! Yes, I do like the idea of a kind of postcard in an envelope. Hugs, April xx
ReplyDeleteLove your bright card Darnell! Blue and green--two of my fave colors! Cleaning and purging is such a great feeling! I always feel more creative when things are tidy. I think your idea about just a card front is fine, especially for mass-produced cards. It's a good idea to use from time to time! Hope your 2019 is off to a great start! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOf course you are a genius my friend...Great idea to do just the fronts of cards and send them but I do like to display my cards...standing up x
ReplyDeleteFabulous card Darnell, so unique and such vibrant and wonderful colours. The design is stunning and clever you to re-organise the letters x See I told you, you are a genius x
Cool card!! I really love this design!! and at first glance I thought you used stripes of Washi on your die cut but this pp is delightful!!! Great take on these challenges!!
ReplyDeleteYes I am doing the CAP thing : ) love that!! One thing I want to focus more on this year is the NBUS mountain I have!! I think I got so in to DT work that I failed to create "for fun"... no not that I have fun with my DT cards.... for me... or something. Anyway! I hope to do a lot more creating with my much loved - sometimes OLD - sometimes bran new favorites.
I love the idea of creating card fronts only!! I am not sure my in-laws would get it but surely for fellow card makers it is a sensational tree-hugging idea!!
Have a great week Darnell!
Such a lovely card.
ReplyDeletePurging & reorganising definately! Trips to charity shops with bags of clothes having 4 kiddos it is endless. Came back the other day to find Ms 19 had done out her things again. Must take on the craft space but having trouble getting my head around it after doing everything else!
As for backless cards. I can see the advantages but I'm one who likes to display my cards - but where there is a will there is a way. I could always use a bull dog clip to make a stand couldn't I? You really could be onto something :)
I think you are a genius regarding to the card front with message on the reverse. It is a great idea! I would be happy to get such a card.
ReplyDeleteIt is also a great idea to hold a cupboard free for "just in case". :-) We all have a lot of things in such a cupboards that we never use and never open them.
I like your world card with stenciled detail. Nice colors and nice idea to make just one word from the big inscription.
Have fun with CAP project! :-)
Hugs,
Sonja
Fabulous card, Darnell, what a great globe die. Looks wonderful used with pp.
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting on the fence with the postcard type cards. Although I can see the advantages, I like to display my birthday cards on a shelf. Shop bought cards are hung up on ribbon at Christmas, but handcrafted cards have pride of place on a shelf all together. xx
What a fun card! I love how you used ombre colors from blue to green all over the design, makes this card very cohesive! Wonderful dimension and details too! Thanks for joining us at Less Is More! About your "sending only the card front"-idea: I think there's absolutely nothing wrong in that. I think the recipient wouldn't even think that there should have been a folded card -she/he would just think they are receiving exactly what they are "supposed to" receive! :) However, I nowadays (I moved to smaller spaces last fall and had to re-think many things) have a stack of pre-cut card fronts and a stack of pre-made (or store-bought, they are actually cheaper...) card bases. I've noticed having them made ready saves a lot of time and makes everything more convenient. It took maybe one hour one evening to prepare the stacks (I also prepared some of my fave big die cut shapes as card fronts) and now I just grab them and it's fast and easy. :) I also used to hate it that after creating the front and after having that fun creative moment you then had to start scoring the base card!
ReplyDeleteGeez...Talk about being late for the party! Oh my goodness, this is such a beautiful card, Darnell! I love your color palette and how Hammmy washed the sea with blue...he is so sweet :) I also love your stenciled circles and how you placed the sentiment on vellum (I must do more of that)! Such a lovely card and perfect for the CAS Stencil Challenge...thanks so much for playing along with us this month!
ReplyDeleteOk, well, I think you're a Genius with your card panel idea...I do it all the time, store my cards and when I need one put the base together. It just works! And, I would never be offended if I received a card that was just the front panel and a little 'love note' on the back :)
Congrats on your CAP proceedings :) I've been too lazy since the holidays, and really need to get back to it...thanks for your encouragement! Have a great week...Hugs, Barb xx
Colorful and fun globe card, Darnell! I love how you used the pattern paper and arranged the die-cut sentiment on the strip of vellum! Hammy did a great job of paining a light blue wash.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't CAP process make you feel great and accomplished?
I think a postcard type card is a great idea. I guess it's more eco-friendly and it saves our time & energy. I really don't have much preference. I'll be as happy to receive a postcard type as a regular folding card.
I forgot go say "Happy New Year!"
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Yes - I'm CAPing as well (just in the craft room right now), but I seem to CAP for 30 minutes and then buy more things and the piles begin again.... I feel so good when I'm CAPped - but can't seem to keep it going..... Love your card Sis - the paper you used for the globe pieces are PERFECT! and your stenciled dots are so bright in the green and blues! Thanks for sharing with us in the first CAS Stencil challenge! and I think your one layer card idea is perfect! It would also keep the postage down on a very layered front! great thinking you!! xx
ReplyDeleteLove your cute card and your idea...I don't enjoy making the insides either. You may be on to something!
ReplyDeleteActually, I enjoy the challenge of making the inside - coordinating it with the front using part of the same stamp or a related smaller stamp and choosing the right wording.
ReplyDeleteWhen I made single panel cards in the past, I sent them as postcards - might as well let all those postal workers along the way enjoy my artwork! Somewhere in my stash/hoard is a "postcard" stamp to use in the middle of the back.
BUT I love to get cards and would not "return to sender" no matter what format "sender" chose to use........

What an interesting idea--post card in an envelope. The only thing I wouldn't like is not being able to display it on my shelf. Beautifully unique card with that neat die--love the colors you used, Darnell!
ReplyDeleteBack in English! I love your card Darnell great design! And I love your idea of just making 'postcards' too!! Like you I enjoy making the front but there the pleasure ends...
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous card here Dee! great watery look to it too and how clever.About your question, I would be happy with whatever card I received if it was handmade as were all know how much work and love goes into each and every one ;) hugs Vee xx
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I just love your card and usually I would scurry off to find all the things to make it myself but my resolution is not to do that anymore! Like you I have been purging and reorganising and thinking I need a NBUS challenge lol!
ReplyDeleteAs for backless cards, did you know about this die?

Wow Darnell - what a brilliant card! LOVE the map and how you twiddled with the letters is just genius!
ReplyDeleteWe need to do a really serious overhaul of stuff we never use as well! So I feel your pain - but it's lovely when it's done of course! There's one of us here who will not part with anything in case it comes in handy at some point! And it isn't me either! Err, OK so I do have different rules for craft stuff :)
Hmm, single flat cards rather than folded ones. When I lived in Germany (boarding school as you know) we used to go into the local town to buy our Christmas cards for special school friends. They were always just one-sided, much like a pretty postcard with deckled edges and a sprinkling of glitter over the traditional image of a Christmas tree or similar. I'm happy either way to be honest - I use white tack to adhere Christmas cards to the internal doors here - and have to seal the cards closed with DST otherwise they flop open and get caught as you pass them.
Hugs
Di xx
your card is so wonderful
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, love your bright card, great die and fab idea to cut from paper, and clever to scramble the letter Said! I love decluttering too. I'd have to come up with a new way to display my cards, but novel idea of yours. I keep my birthday cards up from March till July when I have to make space for the other half's ! Xxx
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a Spotlight Artist at City Crafter Challenge Blog.
