Hello Stamplings!
ZOOM, ZOOM, I'm popping in today from up in the Vancouver area where I am happily crafting at my second retreat with Loll and friends. If you missed it, you can find last year's recap here. It's such a great time because these ladies are very fun and very talented when it comes to mixed media, so it's a blast to stretch my style horizons with them!
I'll have more to report on that later, but for now I have a coupla more inspiration cards for you as a reminder that we are halfway through our May Twofer Card Challenge #16 where the brief is THINGS WITH WH⎈⎈LS!
I used a little toy airplane stamp for my two wh⎈⎈l designs. I have no idea who the manufacturer is of this super cute trio of toy vehicles. I thought it might be Paper Smooches or Lawn Fawn, but I've searched there and generally on Google, SU, and Pinterest and confound it, I'm at a loss.
Onefer
Isn't this one wheelie fun? It's for a youngster's birthday. Or it could be for an oldster's birthday since I'm convinced after age 60 we start regressing in a positive way and becoming more child-like. I'm not talking about mental deterioration, which is sad and not positive. Rather, I mean in the way we recapture our zest for the little things in life. We stop and look at bugs or at the clouds passing overhead. Or we play with the grandchildren's toys even when they aren't visiting!
Challenges
- Double D: Frames mood board.
- Inkspirational: Adventure.
- Stamp Ink Paper: Let's hear it for the boys!
Twofer
This is a wheelie QACAS card if ever there was one. I'm going to use it as a Thinking of You card. I stamped the airplane on SU pp and added a foam SWAK from my NBUS "Filled With Love" die set by Penny Black.
In case you are unfamiliar with the expression, SWAK stands for "sealed with a kiss." And here is some interesting information I found when I searched the etymology of the expression:

I hope I've inspired you to both kiss someone and play along in our May Twofer Card Challenge! Thank you if you've already played with your wh⎈⎈ls! The challenge closes at the end of day on May 24, 2019.
In case you are unfamiliar with the expression, SWAK stands for "sealed with a kiss." And here is some interesting information I found when I searched the etymology of the expression:
attested from 1911, in a legal publication quoting a letter from 1909:
"... Well Kid I don't know nothing else to say only that I hope to see your sweet face Sat. Good by from your Dear Husban to his sweet little wife. P. S. excuse bad writing and mispelled words take all mistakes as kisses. S.W.A.K. * * *" This letter was postmarked at Des Moines October 20, 1909, addressed to Carrie Sprague at Jefferson, Iowa, and reached the latter place October 21, 1909. [State v. Manning (a conspiracy-to-lure-women-to-prostitution case), Supreme Court of Iowa, Nov. 16, 1910, reported in "Northwestern Reporter," Volume 128, 1911]
Popularized in soldiers' letters home in World War I. It probably is meant also to echo the sound of a kiss.

Oh Darnell, these cards are such sweet ones - love the SWAK one, although I knew it as SWALK - sealed with a loving kiss... The triple image card is super fun.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you have taken Hammy with you on your retreat, or he may go visiting a lady, and you know what trouble that caused last time ;-).
Blessings
Maxine

Too cute, Darnell...sadly, I have no idea who belongs to this stamp set, either...but I do love how you've used them. Now, you'll have to excuse me while I go kiss my better half.
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome Twofers and thanks for teaching us all about SWAK!
ReplyDeleteAn inspirational post, with fabulous cards
ReplyDeleteFaith x
Such vibrant and fun cards and great use of the little toy aeroplane stamp.....I have a DH who would love it, the card that is....lol x
ReplyDeleteWonderful designs and love the sentiments on both of them too x.
Have a fabulous time with your friends, craft lots, laugh lots and make loads of memories x.
Both cards are just adorable, the little cars are the cutest ever and I love the little airplane. As a young woman I always used to put SWAK on all my letters to my then boyfriend and you have reminded me that the very first record I ever bought was Sealed With A Kiss by Brian Hyland - wonderful memories!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying your time with your crafty friends. Hugs, Annie xx
I don't think I'll be able to join in on this challenge as we are in Oregon for the next week. Loved seeing your inspirational examples, though. Those little toy vehicles are sweet and remind me of my son's toys 40 years ago.
ReplyDeleteTwo fun and pretty cards using the cute little plane and love the film strip type shape to display the two sweet little cards, and the aeroplane of course, and love the design of the sentiment, and then the plane looks great towing the message which I have seen before but great to have the info on it too. I'm sure you are having an interesting and fun time in Vancouver with Loll and friends and look forward to hearing more about it. x
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh, these are so dang cute and I mean really, really cute as in delightfully cute! I think at our age we tend to let our hair down more because we've already reached the pinnacle of coolness and we just don't need to get any cooler. Right? Well, I hope you're all letting your hair down up there in BC. Say "hi" for me, okay? The article you shared is interesting re State v Manning (luring to prostitution). What's up with that, I wonder? Darnell, thanks for sharing your frames card with us at Double D. It's always fun to see you there!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Darnell...love the zoom one especially. I bet you are all having a ball in Vancouver. xx
ReplyDeleteGreat work Darnell
ReplyDeleteso clever and fantastic
