Bejeweled and Ombred Friends

Hello Stamplings!

Happy Hump Day! Thought I'd do a quick mid-week post with a coupla QACAS cards. Thanks to a gift certificate, Hammy and I are off for a mani-pedi appointment. What's that? Yes, Hammy is having a double pedi. If Karen is there, he's very patient and stands so still while she does his front paws. I'll try and get a photo this time, but Karen is very wary. I think she might be wanted by the law or in the witness protection program because she weirds out if she sees someone holding their phone up like they are taking her photo.

That actually happened to me and my sisters once when we were together at a restaurant. We asked the waitress to take our photo and afterwards we noticed in the photos that one of the men at the next table had noticeably placed his hand up to block his face! We were goofing off, so it took a few minutes for her to take three photos and in each one his hand was still up as a shield to cover his face. I've always wondered what his story was.

Okay, squirrel time over. Here's my onefer:
At the recent ESCR, we each took turns leading one or more techniques. The lovely and talented Nancy (Scandinancy Creates) taught us the Cut-Up Stamping technique. Such a simple technique that adds a ton of interest and dementia just by inserting your sediment inside a cut out channel of the image! There are lots of ways you can cut your channel depending on the look you want. (Jennifer McGuire video.)

I colored this "Bejeweled" stamp by Penny Black using the direct-to-stamp technique where you color on the stamp itself, spritz, and stamp on paper. I'm not sure who makes the sediment because I borrowed it from someone at the Retreat.

Twofer
When you make a direct-to-stamp image, you should always spritz your stamp again and try one more stamp off. Usually it's inky enough to give you an image that you can use for another card. This card was made from a second generation stamping of the first card. The friend sediment is from Gina K's Stitched Leaves set.

And a real quick Threefer:
Using my Clarity brushes, I inked the 3D circle stencil from Dylusions in shades of pink. Over the top is an ombre-inked stamp from Inkylicious which was a gift quite a while ago from my friend, Linda. Thank you, Linda!

Okay, off we go! Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

  2. It is just too funny about that man, it sounds like the basis for a good story! I hope you and Hammy enjoy(ed) your pedis...

The first card is just gorgeous, I love the grainy look of the flower and the whole design is just stunning. I usually forget to do a second stamping but that card is so pretty I must try to remember. Your ombre card is beautiful too, I love the colour!

Happy hump day to you too my friend. Hugs, Annie xxx

  4. Perhaps the man was afraid his wife could see him on FB. :-) Because he said to her that he goes to buy the salad...
All three cards are fabulous. I like effective design on the first card. Wonderful CAS. Card with the second generation of stamping is genious with focus on the sentiment. The sentiment on the third card is so sweet and so true! Thank you for the worry. :-)
Have a nice day! Hugs, Sonja

  7. I think that man was probably a card maker listening in on y'all's conversation and wanting to hear new ideas but didn't want you to know that he was listening. When he heard the acronym QACAS he thought you said crackers and used some crackers with glue to make a mixed media technique. He then went on to produce the product and made millions.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    Lovely cards.

Kudos to Hammy for staying still will getting the pedi. [Bunny]

  19. Well consider me bejeweled, bedazzled, and beguiled by these beauties, D! I so tickled to have you join us the week at CTS!! LOve the split panel, and those gorgeous glitzy blooms... did you sprinkle brushos on the stamp, then spritz? I'm totally taken by this look!
and those words... sigh... so true! I feel you, Sister... xx

  21. Direct to stamp colouring is one of my fav techniques. I love both prints. Your ombre stencil is pretty groovy, it gave me a bit of a psychedelic trip :)

  22. Love the first cut-up card - beautiful colours from your direct to stamp inking up. And the second is so pretty and soft - a perfect backdrop for a bold sentiment. Great ombre effect on the third card.

Now I'm off to clean the house before my sister arrives tomorrow for a 10 day visit - I'll amuse myself while I'm vacuuming with inventing stories for the man who kept hiding his face!

  24. Well, you've been busy...I hope the mani-pedi & pedi-pedi are relaxing for you and Hammy. As you know, I am not fond of having my photo taken and I'm not even wanted for any crime. Must be a lack of confidence (story of my life). Anyway, you seem to be on a real roll love the direct to paper technique you've used. Oddly enough, I've been doing that today too.
Hope you an yours have survived the heat...or maybe you didn't have any. If so, you're a lucky duck.

  30. Three beautiful cards and I love that Penny Black stamp. I think I have it in my stash as well. One of these days I will have to try the direct to stamp technique again. I don't know if I have juicy markers though to work with anymore.

  34. Two beautiful floral cards Darnell using this lovely straight to stamp technique, and love the split design with the sentiment stamped within, and then the die cut and stamped sentiment you have added to the second. The Threefer is just fantastic and the 3D effect is splendid and the three colours you have used really work to give the ombre effect and a fantastic sentiment to finish which also has the ombre effect to I think...a double whammy...lol. I hope you and Hammy enjoyed your pampering foot care. x

  35. Great cards!

And in regard to your mystery man...He may be just like me...and hates to have his picture taken!!!!!!

  36. Such lovely cards.

Love the technique on the first one - another for my must try list! ;)

  37. An abundance of prettiness Darnell! Now you have thinking about the guy in your photos LOL!

  38. Pretty cards today. I hardly ever do the marker to stamp technique, and I need to give it a try again. Interesting story about the restaurant patron. It would be interesting to know why he covered his face--he's definitely not a photo-bomber!

  39. Gorgeous cards Darnell but the first one really caught my eye and now I must look up the links to see how it was really done. Such a clean looking card I simply love it! Thanks for sharing and enabling.

  40. What a lovely trio of cards Darnell and the watercolour look to the stamping on the first two really appeals to me. I must practice this 'cos whenever I try it, I get runs. Must be too much spritzing! Hope you enjoyed your mani-pedi.

  41. Your trio of cards is fabulous! I love the first two images and how the stamped-off version looks so pretty more as a background than as a hit-you-in-the-face image! Great ideas and designs, and I'm sure your camera-shy fellow diner has his own story about covering his face, much like you cover yours on airplanes LOL

  42. Perhaps the man was being tailed for insurance fraud and he should have been home in bed! LOL! Three great cards, Darnell. Love the softness of the flowers and the almost circus like quality of that amazing sphere in #3... wow, these are excellent!

  45. As you would say about that third card, Darnell ... pinkilicious ... and I would add positively so! I gasped at the first two ... WOW! I've no idea how you achieved the stunning variation of colour on those beautiful blossoms and leaves, but good grief, they're spectacular! That technique needs to be on the next LH list ... please! Hope you both enjoyed the mani-pedi/double pawdi, Darnell ... how blissful! LYAMYHAHMA! Big hugs and bisous, Anita :)

  46. Just love your side tangents!! These cards are all fabulous! Love the way you broke apart the panel to reveal the sentiment. Your last card is so fun! I have never seen a 3d stencil that has such a great effect! Super color choice too! Thanks for joining the gals and I at JUGS!! HUGS!

  47. Well my take on that man was he shouldn’t of been in the restaurant and didn’t want his family to know he was up to no good..lol your cards though Darnell are stunning l love the split floral image and the sentiment placed at an angle on your first card also as always the floral images are stunning on all cards sending lots of love xx

  48. Really beautiful PB cards, Darnell! Must try the technique Nancy brought to the retreat as it does add so much interest, yet so simple. Your second stamping is perfect for a soft background with the sentiment over top. Interesting story about the fella covering his face. Hmmmm... maybe he was someplace he shouldn't have been or with someone he shouldn't have been with. Or, yes, maybe in Witness Protection. Probably Witness Protection. Way cool stencil on your bonus threefer card! Isn't the sentiment the truth? Nice!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Were you in Iowa when you had that photo taken with your sisters? For some reason I have it in my head that all witness protection people get moved to Iowa...unless they are from Iowa, lol! Anywho, Your flowers are gorgeous! I love the variation of colors throughout, and how clever to spritz it a second time. That stencil design is so fun on your third card! Reminds me of a disco ball. I love the sentiment stamping to match the background! Miss you, my friend!

  50. I hope you both had a lovely day at the salon .... I'm off there tomorrow. I've never been one to go and get my nails done, always done them myself. However Lauren took me as a birthday treat earlier this year and now I'm hooked!! Hubby's not impressed though!
Gorgeous cards, I love the floral ones especially with the cut out sentiment, I need to try that. Love the stencil design too xx

  52. This is one of my favorite PB stamps and I love how you've used it. You got just the right amount of spritz. I usually end up with a watery mess. Your second image is as pretty as the first.

Your ombre stenciling is amazing. The blending of colors make for a cheerful friendly card! Thanks for sharing this with us at CAS Mix Up!
