Hello Stamplings!
How are you? I hope your week has been going great!
I was standing at the counter at a doctor's office yesterday (just routine) and they had one of those little 2019 calendars taped down on the counter to assist patients with follow-up appointments. The receptionist and I were looking ahead to December and at the very same moment we both looked up and locked eyes, horrified to realize that it was already time for them to tape down a 2020 calendar! My head spun around three times as she hissed, "I swear I just took down my Christmas decorations!"
I mean, it was really freaky how that lady and I seemed to share the same brain there for a second! (Insert snark from the hamster on my shoulder: "That poor woman!")
~~~
Let's move on to my Twofer of summery garden cards and not look any further down the calendar for a minute. (Sorry about the odd lighting from the late afternoon photography.)
The prompt for this month's Twofer Card Challenge is "Garden." The NBUS garden stamp that my Twofer designs have in common is the pair of darling polka-dotty Wellies holding a garden bouquet. It's "Showers & Flowers" by Simon Says Stamp.
Onefer
For this QACAS design, I simply colored the stamped image with Prismacolor pencils on Altenew parchment paper. I framed the image with a NBUS die-cut Double Stitch Scalloped Rectangle Frame from Poppystamps. It's nearly impossible to see it, but Hammy added his usual dose of winking to add schparkle to your day!
Challenges
- AAA Birthday: Game #3: For the girls.
- Less Is More: Celebrations.
- TIME OUT: Inspired by words. (Who could not be happy with flowers?)
Twofer
For this one-layer note card, I stamped the same Wellie bouquet on a card base and then I fussy cut a mask of it which had been stamped on a piece of scratch paper. With the mask in place, I over-stamped it with an old wooden stamp of a line of clay pots from Great Impressions. I also stamped an old SU grass stamp. The entire scene was then watercolored by me using my Ziggies and winked by Hammy. Lastly, I stamped the arched sediment, which I believe is also from SU.
Challenges
- CAS Watercolour Card Challenge: Bouquet of flowers for my sweet friend Bon-Bon (Bonnie Klass)! Happy Birthday, twin!!
- Inkspirational: Designers Choice: 3 or 5 of something. (Three clay pots.)
- Shopping Our Stash: The dreaded one-layer card.
I hope you'll find some time to create a Twofer of Garden cards! You have until the end of day on July 24th. We are sad to see Loll step down as a Designer because of her many other commitments, but she will be staying on as Administrator, thankfully. We are pleased to welcome Cat to the team as a Designer and we have two awesome Guest Designers (Kathy and Robyn) joining us! Check out what the entire creative Team has made to inspire you over on the Twofer challenge blog!
Of course, these drawings are much nicer than the crude ones I did on the back of an envelope before making my cards, but I wanted you to see how this simple process helps me quickly determine if my design plans are distinctly different from each other before I begin to create. It also helps me think what occasions my cards will be for. Just like you, I love how Twofer challenges me every month to step outside of my comfort zone and stretch my design skills! Mwah!
~~~
I asked in the title to see how your garden grows and I hope you'll show us in your Twofer entry post! Here's mine:
No veggie gardens any more, but we do enjoy the blooming flowers and trees. This is the view I have from my desk chair as I look out the north window of the Playhouse. Lucky me! Between the birds, squirrels, lizards, and hummers, something is always happening to distract me and the Hammeister! It's no wonder we get so behind!
~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!
I’m always looking forward to the Twofer challenge. Garden is a very fitting for the season and is perfect for many an occasion. The wellies are so eyecatching on your first card, your coloring is perfect and I like the pop of color from the red frame. Your one layer card is beautifully detailed. Clever masking job with images that go together perfectly.
ReplyDeleteDarnell I love your wellies and they look so different...amazing what design can do to stretch stamps. The clay pots look like they always were part of the stamp. Fabulous set of twofers.
ReplyDeleteLoving your cards Darnell, but when do I not?
ReplyDeleteGood to see Hammy has some snark, as well as schparkle duties. Good to see he has acquitted himself well this week.
Blessings
Maxine
Two fabulous cards as always. Your garden view is lovely too! Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteYes time is flying Darnell and I share your feeling :) Two beautiful cards did you make and great for many occasions. Your own garden looks gorgeous too, enjoy it ;p
ReplyDeleteGreetings Miranda
Lovely both the cards, and such beautiful effect of wink of stella on the second one, well done to Hammy too! :D
ReplyDeleteYou have a sweet garden, love the view from your window!
Hugs
You madde great cards with the same stamp and I like both of them.
ReplyDeleteLia xx
They do say that time flies!! Loving the dotty wellies.
ReplyDeleteSweet stamp and beautiful designs Darnell..let's not discuss the rapid passing of time...I KNOW it has speeded up in recent years.
ReplyDeletexx
Both cards are so beautiful!! I love how you've used the image on both!! And your garden is gorgeous!! My craft room is in the basement with only one small window, so I covet your space!! Have a great day!! Big hugs :)
Your cards are so adorable! Love your beautiful view of your garden! I too cannot believe that half the year is over already.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Marilyn ❤️
Are we suppose to take down our decorations and tree? Ha Ha Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteLove your view from your She Shed. Beautiful. So are both of your cards. I especially love the SU grass stamp. [Bunny]
This summer is FLYING by and to even think about Christmas-EEEK!! Love the two cards. That boot image is one of my favorites!! I wanted the stamp set just for that but didn't buy it (though I should have the way I have been spending this month!!) Your coloring with the Prismas is GORGEOUS!! I do not have the patience. I love the red frame around it, making the image POP. Your second card I love that you added the three pots. I rarely use two stamps, from different companies like this and now I need to go look at what I have. GREAT design on both cards!!
ReplyDeleteAnd your garden is GORGEOUS!!
I love the combination of pots and wellies; they look great on both cards! The colours make a great difference in feel'of both cards.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful garen-vieuw! Enjoying mine here as I work and enjoying the neighbours garden when I am crafting :) Hugs, Gerrina
I love how you did the masking on the second card. What a great way to stretch that stamp!
ReplyDeleteBEautiful cards!
ReplyDeleteSad but true, the time is passing by to soon...
ReplyDeleteI like your garden twofer. Cute stamp wonderful colored on both cards. It is such a nice one layer garden scene on the second card! You are so organized by crafting. You even make the sketches! Great! I'm not so organized. I like to improvise. Sometimes it works. :-)
The look out of the window in your playhouse is wonderful.
Have a great day! <3
Hugs, Sonja
You had me at polka dots. Love that sweet, fun little wellies stamp! My sister once did flowers in a pair of her husband's old work boots, which was sweet, but I like this garden even way more! The bright colors on your parchment paper base looks fabulous. Love that scalloped frame, too! And all those pots and lawn that you've added in on your second card is amazing. I think I'd still be working on that! Tell Hammie he did a good job of winking, too. Clever, clever cards. Gardens don't have to take up an acre...they fit perfectly in a pair of boots! The view out your window is dreamy. Full of life and color. I get to look out on Michael's gardens...lucky me! Sending hugs. xoxo Bev
ReplyDeleteFun twofer cards. That image is very cute water colored. Your view from your playhouse is awesome! I get to look at a brick wall
ReplyDeleteTWo pairs of polka-dotted Wellies??? You ARE one lucky girl! and aren't we the lucky ones to have a share of your view of such a wonderful garden! one day, I'd love to see the real deal!
ReplyDeleteCurrently my garden grows more colorful each day, it sings with bees, and [80 new pairs of] butterfly wings!!!
xo
Your mouth should be washed out with soap for even mentioning December! I love the flowers in the polka dot boot. I like that you made a sketch showing your process. I am getting in a rut, a garden rut of course, and this helps me think outside the boot, er, box. I will not post a picture of my garden. Dead grass because of the heat and no rain lately is not an attractive picture.
ReplyDeletetwo lovely cards Darnell...a better use for wellies than wearing them too! You have a lovely view from your crafty hole...great to be able to appreciate nature. xx
ReplyDeleteOh goody...this challenge theme is one I can really get into. Think the coloring of both these cards is just plain fabulous. Love that SSS wellie stamp and you've done it true justice with your cards.
ReplyDeleteI love your polka dotted wellies with their sweet flowers growing out of them! Your garden grows beautifully. That's a beautiful view from your Playhouse!
ReplyDeleteHello Darnell, loving your cards and the wellies are fab, and all beautifully coloured. A lovely peek at your garden through the window, thanks for sharing, Kate x
ReplyDeleteOh 2020 will be here soon!! I love the photo of your garden, what a lovely view. Both these cards are fab, super masking on the second, love how this shows how different one image can be used. And adore that red frame for the Time Out card and really picks out the red in the image. So good to see you at Time Out x
ReplyDeleteIt is such a lovely garden to be distracted by and if we had hummers and lizards I would never leave ours! Fortunately for my crafty commitments, we have neither!
ReplyDeleteYour twofers are gorgeous, I really need a pair of spotty Wellies now! Hugs, Annie xxx
Darling twofers, Dolly. Wonderful watercoloring of that sweet image. Two great designs... so clever to sketch out your layouts.
ReplyDeleteYour garden from your playhouse looks beautiful... lucky you indeed. xx
Your Twofers are so gorgeous and I love the boots with the flowers. That is so cute. I hope I can find time to join in but this might be a month when I will have to just pass it up. Too busy with company coming.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully colored bouquets in boots images for your two gorgeous cards, Dolly. I loved your coloring with pencils on your 1st card and Zigs for your 2nd:-) Your designs are so different for your two different occasions. I woke up this a.m. with visions of Twofer Gardens in my head:-) That is usually the 1st step for designing for me!! Whatever works...right?!?
ReplyDeleteSorry to see Loll go. I don't know how she manages so many challenges. Will be wonderful having Cat as a new designer. Love and Hugs..Nancy
Hi Darnell, I love both the cards. So cheery and colourful.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks beautiful.
Hugs
Sue
Beautiful cards and a beautiful garden! What a fabulous Twofering theme - I love it, Jo x
ReplyDeleteLove these, brilliant watercoloring and masking. Wish my garden had such lovely sunshine sigh..... xx
ReplyDeleteLovely cards! What an amazing view you have from your window! I love it!
ReplyDeleteTwo great cards, love the Wellies! Your view out the playhouse window is a marvelous distraction . Pretty sure I would get nothing done :-)
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards, Darnell and so interesting to see that you do a sketch of your designs first. I don't think I've ever done that, except for following an occasional sketch challenge. That probably explains why my cards rarely turn out like the design I have in my head when I start! LOL! Lovely photo of your garden through the Playhouse window, full of colour. You wouldn't want to see the wildlife in our garden - the ants have been creating ant hills in the middle of the lawn! It seems to be a bit of a problem locally this year. xx
ReplyDeleteTwo brilliant cards and with a great image and some super colours and two lovely designs. Lovely garden photo too.
ReplyDeleteAs you know my birthday is in January, and when I was little the three weeks to my birthday seemed so long and I thought it was never coming, these days I have hardly finished opening my Christmas presents and it's my Birthday. (no I do not get a huge amount of Christmas presents)
Kath x
Such a fantastic twofer, Darnell! I love those cute wellies and it's so fun to see them colored so differently. The blue and red birthday boots look amazing on the kraft cardstock, and I love the bright red frame. Those clay pots are a wonderful addition in your "thinking" garden - you've created quite a scene!
ReplyDeleteYour Twofers are so pretty Darnell and I love the welly boots filled with the sweet flowers and so sparkly from the winking by Hammy, and love the picot rectangle frame on the first, and you have masked and added the pots wonderfully well on the second, and they look as though they were always part of the image, and love the added grass and your colouring on both is fabulous. Talking of fabulous your garden looks so full of colour and fauna as well as wonderful flora. With a view like that it is no wonder you don't get as much done as you would like, I would be distracted too. x
ReplyDeleteVery cute card, Love the little boot. Thanks for playing at AAA Birthday, hope to see you join us again. Tina DT
ReplyDeletePolka dot Wellies...sign me up!! Your cards are a real treat Darnell and so darn cute! Love your view too!
ReplyDeleteLove the cards, and those Wellies, they call them Gumboots here in Australia, but I prefer Wellies LOL, Thanks for playing along with our challenge at AAA Birthday,hope to see you join in with future challenges too hugs XoX - Alli C -DT
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I could use my Wellies for plant pots :) Two great cards Darnell and wow look at that garden grow :)
ReplyDeletePerfectly wonderful, fun wellies! I love wellies! Your cards are perfect, and I especially love that red half-scallop frame too!
ReplyDeleteYour garden grows beautifully -- though I am not surprised!
Those little wellies are so cute. Wish I had a pair. I really hope I can find the time to enter the twofer challenge this month. I've got company coming--and that will take up some of my crafting time--but I'm going to give it some thought. Thanks for sharing the photo of your garden view. It's gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteJust love your darling wellies with flowers, Darnell - great coloring on both cards and such a fun theme!! Love your garden too - I have no garden and my landscaping needs an overhaul. Hence no photo! At chorus we're already rehearsing music for our Christmas show - enough to make you panic if your Christmas card production isn't on track!!
ReplyDeleteTwo great cards Darnell. Your colouring is fab. I love the grass stamp such a useful one to have. My daughter was asking me only yesterday about us booking a day's annual leave for our usual C shopping day....not say that word in full yet ...lol xx
ReplyDeleteLOVE this sweet image with the flowers in the wellies!! Great work with colouring with pencils, Dolly! Now I know how to use them better, I hope to use them more ... see tomorrow's post if you have time! :) The bright colours of the boots, along with the bright red scalloped border and parchment background are amazing together to create a really happy and fun birthday card.
ReplyDeleteYour second card is adorable. Love the line up of clay pots and your sweet flowers in the wellies. Fantastic watercolouring on all elements to give them a dimensional look. The soft blue sky finishes off this adorable garden scene. Great work my friend! Love, Lolly
I love the second one with the masking! Gorgeous
ReplyDeleteWhat a view :) My small craftroom window looks onto the neihbours fence. We're so close I can hear her music - saves me playing mine! My lounge window has a lovely view though!
Beautiful view from the playhouse. Perfect picture for your beautiful garden cards. Some awesome coloring on the pots! Great cards, Darnell. Hugz
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, your two cards are beautiful, but I especially love the gorgeous view from your Playhouse. Our gardens are blooming and doing well for being in just their 2nd summer, lots of rain this spring helped :) Have a great day, hugs xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous creations as always Darnell!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the crew at SHOPPING OUR STASH for the dreaded one layer challenge!
Polka dot wellies! What could be cuter for a summer garden!! The one on its side looked like it could be a perfect place for a certain hamster's afternoon nap!
ReplyDeleteLove your garden-themed twofer! Beautiful flowers growing out of those fun polkadot boots! Great idea to use the image alone for one card, and with the extra pots around it in the other (great shading on those pots, by the way). Also love the view of your real garden - how wonderful to get to look right out on the birds and the flowers!
ReplyDeleteDarnell, two fantastic twofer cards. Your water coloring is so awesome. Love these.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great stamped image to use for the garden prompt. Both cards are wonderful with very different designs and occasions and what fabulous inspiration. I too find that sketching out the designs first does help me. Great colouring on both of your beautiful cards and love the little scene you've created on your'thinking of you' card...x Thanks for sharing the photo of your garden form your playhouse window x.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a scene builder, Darnell, but I love that grass and those clay pots that you added on the second card. You did a beautiful job with the Zigs on that one and with the pencils on the other one.
ReplyDeleteNo need to tell me how fast time is going! lol ;) Both of your cards are so sweet and pretty! Love them! Your garden looks like a very nice place to sit and enjoy everything around. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs, my friend.
These cards are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing the beautiful photo of your garden! You are very lucky to be able to look out your Playhouse window at such loveliness!
ReplyDeleteTwo really stunning cards, Darnell! I love that you chose bold bright colors on Kraft for your first card...especially the pop of red...WOW! I'm also really impressed with all the details you included on your 2nd card...it reminds me of a proper English garden! Thanks for inspiring me to play along...I'm already working on my cards :) Hugs, Barb xx
What a beautiful view from your window, Darnell! Hope the weather has settled down & the migraines are gone! 2 great cards with that darling rainboots image--beautiful coloring!
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell! Wonderful post with two lovely cards. Love the way you brought additional stamps to your design nr 2 -makes the stamp with the wellies look completely different! Believe it or not but I found time to enter Twofer challenge! It brought me a lot of joy and I hope I would be wise enough in the future as well to dedicate more time to card making! It's just when you are a bit tired and feeling not so motivated to DO anything Netflix etc is so much more tempting... But making these cards made my day today! Thanks for the great challenge and hugs from your friend in Finland! xxx
ReplyDeleteTwo garden beauties! Hope to get to play.
ReplyDeleteLovely polka dot wellies, Darnell! Your prismacolor colouring on the neutral background is delicious (as is Hammy's winking) ... and the bold red frame really brings that fabulous image to life! You created such a sweet scene with the welly bouquet ... awesome masking ... those terracotta pots look as though they've always been there! What a wonderful view you have from your window ... no surprise you are always so inspired ... and inspiring! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Time Out! LYAMYHMCA ... CS! Big hugs and bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteFancy wellies and I am happy!! What gorgeous cards Darnell and a gorgeous garden too xx
ReplyDeletePolka dot wellies, now there's a thought! Fabulous cards Darnell. Thanks for playing at AAA Birthday, hope to see you join in with future challenges too.
ReplyDeleteLove those fun dotted wellies! And yes girl, we're going to blink and Christmas will be here! Remember when we were kids and we would whine mid-summer that Christmas seemed so far away? Those days are long behind us now. Welcome to adulting. LOL
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view ....... I'd never get anything done if I had that to look out on.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous twofer too! Love those wellies! xx
Oh Darnell, it's so awesome to see your beautiful card on the SHOPPING OUR STASH gallery, love the vivid, fresh colors on the garden boots, what a lovely pot they make.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with us at SHOPPING OUR STASH, hope you come and play again next time.
Hugs.
Maria Rodriguez.
Your cards are very pretty! I love images with those galoshes! Thanks for playing our Time Out challenge!
ReplyDeleteTwo gorgeous cards Darnell! It took me nearly an hour to scroll to the bottom of the comments today! I love the spotty gum boots or wellies as you call them over there. Thanks for sharing with us at Watercooler Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards yet again Dee! love your pretty garden too, ours is mostly a Spring garden and my OH does like to leave bits for the insects lol so not showing any pics just now ;) hugs Vee xx
ReplyDeleteCutest stamp, Darnell, and you sure changed the look of it simply by adding those pots and giving it a different layout! Now I'm all smitten up with your garden view. I gave my stamp room a bigger window just so I could have a garden view when I force myself to come in for the day. 'Course mine is all woodsy and northwest looking and instead of lizards I have those dratted, but beautiful deer. Your sun gives you beautiful flowers. My butterfly bush is blooming now, too. We came home after a week away and everything seems to have exploded into color. It must have been sunny and warm while we were gone.
ReplyDelete
