Hello Stamplings!
I'm not sure about that title. Have you seen the reports lately about the crap they are recovering from our oceans? I guess a lot of the debris is from ocean liners just dumping their trash in the sea for decades. That can't be right, can it? I'm glad humanity is learning little by little how critical our natural resources are to future generations, so we don't end up with paper towel oceans and no peoples.
Here in our card-making corner of the universe, we make pretty things with our paper towels!

As long as I had all my nautical stamps and dies out, I made a coupla other cards for other challenges. I used Lolly's paper towel technique for this card. (Lolly taught this technique at the 2019 ESCR.) I mopped up Brusho ink with a paper towel and pressed it onto a mixed media panel. If you look closely, you can see the little dot design of the paper towel. The happy popped-up whale from PTI was given a second offset black layer for a shadow and Hammy added a googly eye to bring him to life. The wave die is from Simon Says Stamp.
Challenges
- CAS Mix Up: Paper Towels. I used a paper towel, plus stamping, plus Brushos. There are videos about this technique on the site.
- Paper Players: CAS PP455. Any cards for kids.
- Sweet Stampers: Dies and/or punches.
Twofer
Using the piece that remained after I die-cut the panel for my first card, a sediment sticker Hammy picked out, and a Crop-a-dile, I made this super QACAS birthday card for any age and any gender. Shazambam!
Challenges
- CAS(E) This Sketch.
- Just Add Ink: No stamping.
- Krafty Chicks: Masculine.
- TCP Tuesday: Clean and simple.
- The Male Room: Happy 6th Birthday!

Hi Darnell, Love the cards.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a nice day. Sue
Two super 'sea' cards. A very effective and handy technique.
ReplyDeleteYour so right about the dumping of debris Darnell it's a worrying thing with our Children being left to clean up the mess that is destroying our world. Brusho's really do love the absorbency of those tissues, those die cuts really set the scene. Fab twofer with an extra cute addition of a googly eye..
ReplyDeleteI evaluate everything I craft with now and even more so what I throw away.
Have a super week, creative hugs & wishes Tracey xx
P.S I love boneless chicken :D
Hi Darnell unbelievably what is being recovered so sad at times especially when it effect the sea life your card though makes up for it...it’s so lovely xx
ReplyDeleteTwo great 'sea' cards. I like the blue tones!
ReplyDeleteLia xx
Oh Darnell what stunning cards - and so glad Hammy is helping - his placement of the eye on the whale is perfect, and the sedmiment of the second card is appropriate - give him a rub from me and tell him how well he is doing.
ReplyDeleteLoving your use of the paper towels.
Blessings
Maxine
I love this fun and creative card Darnell! The Brusho/paper towel technique really does create a very ocean vibe. Thanks for sharing at Just Add Ink.
ReplyDeleteWow!!Love the effect of the papertowel for the ocean water!! Amazing both! I have to try this technique!
ReplyDeleteThey're both so gorgeous!! I love the colors and the technique you used!! Have a great day!! Big hugs :)

Great technique, and I must try! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteTwo fab sea cards Dolly Daydreams. x
ReplyDeleteCute cards! Awesome technique!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Marilyn ❤️
I've been aware of our trash being dumped into the ocean, but watching 60 minutes the other night brought to light just how serious this problem is! I agree, we must all do better! Anyway, back to the card - what a great technique with the paper towel and I love the resulting card. It's so clever how you inserted the sentiment into the waves - what a fun look!
ReplyDeleteI almost missed the boneless chicken and safe text graphics - too funny :)
ReplyDeletevery sweet with a fab background Darnell
ReplyDeleteGr Karin
Lovely scroll dies. Your paper towel technique makes a very effective pattern on your card. Chantell Just Add Ink
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not for throwing paper towels into the ocean, I'm all for taking a gorgeous mop up towel and making an ocean for a card! Beautiful colors and patterns! What vibrant colors, my friend! The whale looks very happy! And your twofer ocean scene is a fantastic QACAS! Shazambam for sure! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at CAS Mix Up!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors on the cards. Once I got to the end and saw the boneless chicken and safe text pictures I lost most of my train of thought. Not hard to do these days anyway. Loved these. They are so funny.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if our oceans will ever be as clean and pristine as years earlier. We won't be able to eat anything out of the ocean if we can't keep it clean. [Bunny]`
what cute and creative ways to use the paper towel technique, Darnell - love both of them!
ReplyDeleteBrushos made perfect colors for your waves and the colors are gorgeous on both cards. Fish are dying with plastic inside them and getting trapped in the ocean debris. I'm glad to see so much attention is now being given to make people more aware. I'm aware, I just can't seem to get to the ocean. I love the safe text information. There is a stamp that says "Lets eat grandma". Use commas. "Lets eat, grandma".
ReplyDeleteBeautiful paper towel creations. They really do look like the ocean with those fabulous colors. I don't use paper towels much but just might have to ink up some more often now.
ReplyDeleteGreat cards, Darnell xoxo
ReplyDeleteYour paper towel ink transfer turned out great, Dolly! The perfect colors for a seascape. Loved how Hammy brought the cute whale to life with a googly eye:-)
ReplyDeleteFun QCAS 2nd card with your leftovers too:-) Love and Hugs...Nancy
And what the oceans ingest we too eventually do. Your paper towel oceans are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteLove the cute whale with his googly eye. Your paper towel ocean looks great. TFS
ReplyDeleteYou have managed to transfer the ink beautifully from your paper towel Darnell and I love the colours, and what a sweet die cut whale and he has certainly got his googly eye on something or someone...lol, and a wonderful idea to put the words in amongst the waves. What pretty slightly larger waves on the leftover piece, and the simple sentiment and rounded corners finish it perfectly. Glad Hammy gave some great assistance. I don't know how you managed to get such strong colour. I have a card to put up shortly using this technique and I found it took me ages to get anything like half as much colour to transfer. You obviously have the knack. Maybe if the ink is really fresh in the towel it works better and mine had been sitting for a few days. Oh well, I shall keep trying...lol. x
ReplyDeleteShazambam is right...you're sure handy with those paper towels. The color is fantastic...and love all the little dots. Hope you're enjoying this cooler weather as much as I am.
ReplyDeleteSadly, it is on the news every day about debris in our oceans, but it seems that some just never learn. I dread what the future holds for our children and grandkids....
ReplyDeleteYour sea themed cards are gorgeous, it always inspires me when people do this, mine usually turn out to be hideous but I love yours! Hugs, Annie xxx
What a cool technique and like your cards with the awesome ocean waves!
ReplyDeleteAwesome ocean made with your paper towel, who thinks up these amazing techniques? I don'[t know that I have sea critters...I will have to go on the hunt in my arsenal! Heart Hugs, col
ReplyDeleteWonderful card!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gloriously colourful ocean you have created, Darnell. So well done! Thanks for joining us again at Just Add Ink. x
ReplyDeleteI like the colors in your oceans! I also like the sentiment tucked among the waves on the first one. Two terrific cards Darnell!
ReplyDeleteFabulous twofers from your one piece of paper towel transfer Dolly! Love the bright ocean colours. The first card with the whale is adorable! And I love the leftover piece that you've used on the second ... it's awesome! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up! Love, Lolly
ReplyDeleteFabulous twofer Darnell. OMG that little Whale is adorable, great kids card and perfect paper towel transfer with all that texture :)
ReplyDeleteWell, you taught me a new technique with your first card! I had no idea about the paper towel technique. I will have to give that one a try. Tell Hammy I love the googly eye on the whale. It definitely makes him more animated. Your QACAS birthday card is the perfect one to have on hand, too--it works for any gender.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the trash and plastic in our environment. It saddens me to see the pictures of those islands of trash floating in the ocean. I am trying to avoid using plastic as much as I can.
Great cards! Love the paper towel technique and it seems to work brilliantly with the Brushos! Ugh... plastic... it hurts my heart
ReplyDeleteThese are both fab and I clearly remember the beautiful paper towel moppings up you made at Swindon....this challenge SO reminded me of that!
ReplyDeleteLove the texture too!
Chrissie xx
What a great masculine card! Thanks for sharing your work with The Male Room. I hope you'll be inspired by our new challenge too!

PS. the quotes are hilarious, gave me such a laugh and the plastic? Around here I see more younger kids throwing waste than older, even though their ones being taught about how dangerous it is for their futures. Is it me?
Amazing paper towel twofer, Darnell - just love the sweet whale with googly eye and great take on the sketch using the left over waves!!
