Hello Stamplings!
Oh, my, what a busy summer this is turning out to be! We have the unexpected pleasure of spending the weekend with the grandtwins again so we're all smiles! We'll be staying close to home this time so they can see a lot of their friends before school starts again on Monday. That summer holiday sure whooshed by! Seems like only a coupla weeks ago we attended their 8th-grade graduation.
It's the 10th of the month, so that means a new Twofer Card Challenge is starting up and I'd like to share my Twofers with you to get you all becited to play along!
The prompt for August is 🌊NAUTICAL🌊.
The stamp my Twofers have in common is the NBUS surfing duck from Gerda Steiner Designs set called "Catch a Wave." I saw the duck on Trina's blog and had to get myself one asap!
Onefer
Here I gave the surfer rose-colored shades, which Hammy glossified, along with his surfboard. Little Duck Dude is walking on the sandy portion of a rainbow-colored pp panel. It's unclear if he'll have a siesta under that amazing paper-pieced Purple Onion palm tree or simply head for those blue ocean waves.
The sediment is from the same set. This birthday card is intended for a male friend who has an August birthday in a place where August is hot, hot, hot. Here is the inside with a cute swordfish that is also part of the same set:
Challenges:
- AAA Birthday: For the boys.
- Double Trouble Paper Crafting: Thing 1: 3-2-1 Recipe: use 3 colors, 2 pp, 1 sediment. Thing 3: Create a card with a nautical theme.
- Gerda Steiner Designs.
Twofer
For my second design, I made a square card with rounded upper corners. I cut the aperture using my NBUS Rolling Wave Collage die from Memory Box and then I placed a piece of stylized ombre colored ocean pp behind the opening.
I stamped and die-cut Little Duck Dude and then Hammy and I donned our surgical gear and removed his surfboard. There was a small "enhancement" during the process. Cough. While I covered up the boo-boo with a pair of gingham paper-pieced swimming trunks, Hammy glossified his sunglasses and soon the little guy was enjoying himself body-surfing the waves. His straight-forward look seemed perfect for this simple sediment from GKW.
Challenges
- A Place To Start: Use paper piecing in your project.
- Simon Says Stamp Wednesday: Use a die cut.
- TIME OUT: Relaxation.

I hope you'll join our linky party at Twofer Card Challenge #19 with your two sea-worthy cards following the rules. The talented Design Team and our Guest Designer Natalie have made super cool 🌊NAUTICAL🌊 Twofers to inspire you!

ReplyDeleteOh Darnell what a fabulous wee duck - and so versatile in the ways you can use him - loving both the cards, especially the one where he is wearing swimming trunks!!

Super cards, Darnell! I can see why you fell for that duck - he's a cutie, Jo x
ReplyDeleteThese are all so cute, Dr. Darnell. Love the surgical procedure and the swim trunks you gave the duck. Beautiful paper on the surfer duck and the swordfish cards.
ReplyDeleteFunny picture of one of the boys sticking his head in the sand. If we did that people would just thing we were crazy. . [Bunny]
I love your adorable duck! SUPER cute cards! How smart to remove the surf board in one and I love the paper pieced swim trunks! Enjoy your kiddos. Ours went back to school on August 1st. Hugs, Sharyn
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the white ducks trunks … think they come in my size? with a top to match?
ReplyDeleteSo ducking cute, times two!
=]
What fun cards Darnell and I love the gingham shorts...so sweet!! xx
ReplyDeleteOooh, love a duck! So so sweet, no wonder you could'nt resist getting him Darnell, and I just adore his sunglasses, beautifully glossed by Hammy, and the surfboard too with those wonderful bright multi coloured stripes, and sitting within the pretty die cut circle with his very fetching trunks on the second, and such a fabulous piece of dp in the background. What a fun photo of whichever grandson it is..lol, I hope he didn't stay down that hole for too long, and I hope the new school year goes well for both Adam and Henry. x
ReplyDeleteSo much fun - love them.
ReplyDeleteBTW your link here from the blog is broken and I also visited Kara and hers is the same.
I always love your cards, but after seeing this, You missed your true calling. A surgeon it is! How cute is this duck and his shades! These are both such fun cards and make me laugh. The picture of one of the twins made me laugh even harder. We've all had days like that.
ReplyDeleteDarling lil ducky! I bet its the tree! Love that checked shirt on your second ducky too! That wave die is so cool. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteSuch fun cards! HOw fun to be spending more time with the grands! Ours just made an unexpected trip last weekend to visit us. IT is the best!
ReplyDeleteBy goodness you are on a card-making spree. This image is adorable and the cards are so creative.
ReplyDeleteHope you are staying cool. There is an advantage for us being relatively close to the beach and on top of a hill (albeit small).
Have a good one, Barb
I have not only enjoyed your visit, but in a wintery day, with high winds and tree limb off, it's good to see the sun again with these fabby creations, love the duck. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteFaith x

A Mermaid's Crafts
Quakers are these ever cute! Love the dapper due in his gingham trunks!
ReplyDeleteSaw our card on the Gerda Steiner challenge blog. So adorable! Thanks for sharing some creative ideas.
ReplyDeleteOkay, just let me say that duck is stinkin' cute and, yes, I saw Trina use him too. What I like is that rainbow of color that reminds me of the tropics. Hope he doesn't get sunburned or he'll be Duck l'Orange. And, personally, I love the gingham trunks on the body surfing fowl...just too adorable for words.
ReplyDeleteI hope there is something really wonderful in that hole your Grandson dug or maybe he's burying his head in it because summers almost over.
They’re both so cute! Fantastic colorful striped paper with the palm tree enhancing the tropical feel. Love the look of movement from the DP and die cut on the second card, and the duck’s bathing shorts is such a sweet little detail.
ReplyDeleteYour little duck dude is so cool, Darnell ... whether he's surfing on his gloriously coloured dp island or sporting those oh so cute and rather dapper gingham trunks in the ocean! 'Course, his sunnies are perfect all glossified ... Hammy did a great job! It was awfully obliging of the twin to join in with our challenge this month ... I'm thinking it might just be H! LYAMTBLMA ... CS! Big hugs and bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute cards, Darnell! Your little Duck Dude is absolutely adorable, and I love your choice of patterned papers...so vibrant and fun! Great idea to add the swordfish to the inside of the first card, too! Thanks for sharing that great photo of your grandson...there's nothing better than being a kid at the beach :) Hugs, Barb xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous cards, Darnell, your little duck is just adorable and he looks wonderful in his little pair of swimming trunks. xx
ReplyDeleteA really super cute image, love it. Two really super cards, great backgrounds and colours. Love the swordfish card too.
ReplyDeleteKath x
What a cute little surfer duck! Love his rosy glasses! The water looks so inviting so I'm not sure why Henry/Adam was hiding his head. Enjoy your time with them.
ReplyDeleteThat is one hot little chick! It really is trying hard to look cool! Such fun both cards! Your grandson looks like fun, too!
ReplyDeleteTwo adorable cards. I'm pretty sure I can do the twofer this month (If I find the time!) I have lots of stamps for this one! (Doesn't always work that way! Smile!
ReplyDeleteCute Pic!
I looked at your cards and my first thought was... It can't be the 10th already!!!! By golly it is! Oh my goodness where does the time go?
Two perfectly cute cards, Darnell, and I love your Little Duck Dude too! Who is it? One of the grandtwins, I'll bet! :o)
ReplyDeleteTwo great cards Darnell, love the theme for this month's challenge. I'm on vacation this week and will be working on 2 cards :)
ReplyDeleteSo neat to spend more time with the grandtwins! Can't believe it's school again already! Such fun Twofer cards with that adorable duck & I love the masculine BD card!
ReplyDeleteWell, talk about putting your head in the sand--that grandtwin of yours has illustrated the concept perfectly! Your cards are also fab illustrations of the Twofer nautical theme. I will do my best to join in, but no promises. We have soooooo many family birthdays and anniversaries this month, plus we're getting ready for a month-long trip to Europe. So much to do...
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and fabulous cards and that duck is super cute or is that cool.... I think he looks like he is pouting in the second card with the surgical manoeuvre and then having to wear trunks as a result. Great work from Hammy and of course from yourself Darnell x Brought a warm smile to my face x.
ReplyDeleteHope the Grand found what he was looking for and like someone else said...maybe he is not looking forward to going back to school! x.
Lovely to see Duck in such different characters! He looks much more confident in Surf Dude mode but maybe that's because, in the sea, he's wearing the super high-waisted swim shorts that mom made him wear? Surf Dude is happy to go au naturel! Loving that sea! And the inside of the surf card is so fab it could be a card all on its own! Lovely to see the pic of Grand - such a handsome fella ;)
ReplyDeletex
How funny!!! :D Both your cards make me smile and the photo too!! :D The surfing duck is very cool with those glasses and such stunning designs, very creative!!

oh look! It's a dauk!! (sorry, I've seen too many of those tv ads with Irish gentlemen in the pub talking about a duck) What a fun pair of cards with a cute little duck sporting shades! Love the contrast of both cards, and that picture of the grandson deserves a *caption this* contest LOL
ReplyDeleteTwo fab cards as always. Great fun designs, and I love the surfer dude duck ... he looks so cool in his shades! xx
ReplyDeleteWell, your little ducky is making a fashion statement that is not up for rebuttal! Nice save and a great entry for our paper piecing challenge! Your card is nicely executed and visually interesting. Thanks so much for participating in our challenge at A Place to Start! Hope to see more from you this month!

Fab twofer with the surfer duck, Darnell - thanks for the fun theme and inspiration! Especially love the rolling waves background on your hello card!! Har, har - looks like grandson is digging a hole with his head - fun to have them with you, I'm sure!!
ReplyDeleteBoth Duck Dude cards are just adorable, I especially love the swimming trunks on the second dude and the waves in the background are fantastic. Hammy did a great job, as always, with the winking!
ReplyDeleteThe male themed card is fabulous too, just perfect for someone living in a hot climate! I cannot imagine what one of the twins is doing there, but I am guessing it is Adam.... Hugs, Annie xxx
Hi
ReplyDeleteOh wow those rainbow colours are so vibrant, could have done with borrowing his sunglasses! Super cute and very cool looking dude and a fantastic card. Thanks for playing at AAA Birthday, hope to see you join in with future challenges too.
ReplyDeleteLove those ducks... and the pic of the grand twin! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWonderful Twofers. I hope I find the time to play with it but if not will enjoy seeing what others do.
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN post and a great challenge for this month Darnell! Your little surfer duck dude is totally adorable, and I'm loving him in all his rainbow glory card and the curly waves card with the gingham swimsuit...gotta love those happy accidents! The head in the sand photo of one of the boys is priceless and totally made me laugh! Aren't grandkids just the best?! Had so much fun watching our 2 this weekend and getting caught up on all my nana hugs and kisses!! Happy Monday my friend and hope you have a great week! :0)
ReplyDeleteThat is one cool duck! Those shades look spectacular in vivid colors and b&w! I love your rainbow stripes that take on the look of sand, grass, ocean, and sunset sky! Such a fun paper pieced palm tree too. Your gingham-clad body surfer is so chill (do I sound hip?)! Such great wavy background AND foreground! Question: "Why did you put your head in the sand?" Boy answer: "I dunno."
ReplyDeleteLove how you pulled in that second design paper on the palm tree, and whale for your nautical. Such a pretty rainbow of colors on the background paper. Thanks for sharing with us at Double Trouble and please come back for future fun challenges.
ReplyDeleteThese are such fun cards Darnell! That dick sure is a cutie and really fun to play with-love how you did some surgery for your Time Out card. I adore that swirly die cut-so perfect with that background paper-all flows so easily. Thanks for joining Time Out
ReplyDeleteGoodness, you really created a couple of cool ducks! The little guy in the gingham trunks has a lot to contend with in those strong waves! And I adore your bright sunny design with a creative rainbow of colors creating a wonderful beach scene. Some paper piecing and lots of shiny gloss make these perfect for the nautical theme! Love your photo of one of the grandsons. Aren't grandkids the best--we just got home from taking one of the granddaughters on a zoo/history tour. She is such a joy!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Darnell, these cards are too stinking cute!
ReplyDeleteThese two look amazing! Your duckling looks super cute and I love both card designs. The stripes in the colorful one look so striking, I want to try something like that... Great design. The patterned paper in your second crd is perfect! I kept staring at it thinking "how did she do THAT" and then realized it must be patterned paper. :) Thanks for joining us at Time out!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute duck and who doesn't love a rainbow. Thanks for joining in with this months challenge at AAA Birthday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab character that little duck is. I just love how you used him both times and would be hard to pick a favourite. Both so inspirational. I can fully understand you having to have him when you saw him on someone else's bog - I feel the same way now I have seen him. Cute guy or what?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos and the beach one is great!
Hugs, Neet xx
Love that little duck... so adorable. Wonderful twofers. xx
ReplyDeleteLove both of your cards Darnell. That is definitely one cool duck!
ReplyDeleteThe little duckie is the cutest surfer, love both your cards Darnell as well and the commentary, you brighten everyone's day, hugs Robyn
ReplyDeleteWhether it's A or H, I think this is a great idea. After commenting, I'm walking down to North Beach and sticking my head in the sand, too! What a fun photo! This will generate a ton of laughs when he's older! What a duck. Chillin' on a rainbow beach with a cool board and spectacular shades. This is bright, fun, and I love it!! Loving every element on your second card, too. The pp, along with that wavy die looks great. And of course, he looks very cool standing in the water in those shades. Darling card! You're so darn creative!! Going to run and try to stay on this roll this morning...xoxo Miss you. Bev
