Round and Round

Hello Stamplings!

Happy weekend! Of course, if you're out playing because it is the weekend, I'll just say to you that I hope you had a great one! We are entertaining the grandtwins and granddogs this weekend and so far they are all getting acquainted with Nellie just fine. It's a houseful! A house full of joy since today is also the Mister's birthday!

I had some time to get a bit inky during the week and I went from a round daisy focus pocus to a round wreath focus pocus.

Onefer
This is pretty arty for me, eh? I made the background recently by scribbling shades of purple and blue Ziggies on my acrylic block, lightly spritzing the block, and then smooching my paper face down into the ink. It ended up being a meh (to me) background that I set aside to dry, wondering if I'd ever use it.

Then along comes the CAS Stencil Challenge where Julia wants us to use a baby wipe to remove ink through a stencil and suddenly this little background came to life. You just never know! To finish, I added two sticker butterflies and a simple sediment framed to match the card base. You can faintly see Hammy's effusive efforts with winking all over the flower.

Challenges

Twofer
This QACAS design consists of a black card panel run through a snowy e/f. Attached is a wreath from Concord & 9th's "Magnolia Wreath," simply and partially stamped in black on the white die cut. You can't tell, but it is stacked three-high. A simple circle sediment from GKW was added to the center. It's an unexpected color for a Christmas wreath card, but I like that about it.

Challenges
  • CAS(E) This Sketch: See below.
  • Simon Says Stamp: STAMPtember collaboration with Concord & 9th.
  • TIME OUT: Photo inspiration. I was going to add the sediment in a pop of green as seen in the photo, but in the end I liked the striking effect of just leaving it black and white.

Nellie (9/19/19)
My photo table is the vantage point for this picture of Nellie wandering the yard and getting acquainted with her new home. The only difficulty we are having so far is calling her by the proper pronoun because our last two dogs were big Labrador Retrievers and both were male.

Mister: "Where is he?"
Me: "She."
Mister: "She. Where is she? Has he been out?"  !!!

Repeated similarly several times a day. And when the Mister pets her, he says, "Hey, little Buddy." So if we don't get it straight, Nellie may become Buddy. But that's okay, we love him her either way!

~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!
  8. A very happy birthday to your Mister! I'm sure he is in his element with his grandsons visiting this weekend. Have fun celebrating! Your cards are beautiful. I really like how different they are. Happy you were able to use that beautiful background in such a lovely way. And the dramatic and graphic wreath card is fabulous. Your little Nellie is so darn cute. Hope the gender thing gets worked out or she may turn into a little Nellie from Little House on the Prairie! LOL But, really she looks way to sweet and cute for that to happen. Happy weekend, my friend!
  9. First, I love your cards. I'm CASEing the daisy card.I'm not arty, so your smooshing technique is my way of getting a beautiful background. Second, Nellie/Buddy is adorable. It is lovely here in Delaware today. I've enjoyed a walk around the neighborhood and now will have some crafty time. How good can a day get?? Enjoy your weekend with your grands (sons and dogs).
  10. Aaah, Nellie looks a little charmer and glad you are having a fun weekend with family and dogs, and Happy Birthday to the Mister too. Now for the cards which are both gorgeous. I love that inky background and the baby wipe daisy looks great with the pretty butterflies and a lovely sentiment, and then your rather dramatic Christmas card with that dimensional wreath design. It is great to think outside the box sometimes and different in this case is perfect. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. x
  11. Zowie, that ink smooshed background really sings now. Have to try that tecknique soon. The B&W Christmas card is very striking...someone's going to love it as much as I do.
    Happy Birthday to your most significant other, the Mister. Hope the twins, dogs, Hammy and you make is special for him.
    Gender is something we never got too picky about in our house. Steve thinks all dogs are male and all cats are female...never considers how they reproduce.
  12. Beautiful card designs and both so well done. Enjoy the time with the family too! Have a great weekend.
  13. So the baby wipe took the color off even after the Zigs dried? I tried that technique and couldn't get anything to work to save my soul. Your big daisy on the blue is lovely, Darnell, and why not black and white for Christmas. It's elegant and classic.
She is so fluffy and cute...I just want to reach out and pet her :) Happy, Happy Birthday to the Mister! Sounds like a fun weekend having the grandtwins and granddogs...Enjoy! Barb xx
    Happy Birthday to the Mister.
    Nellie looks like she is having a great time exploring.
  32. Good grief! There's nothing meh about this background! I absolutely love the daisy you 'wiped' out of it and the butterflies are the perfect embellishment. I like the unexpected black and white Christmas card too. It can only be given to someone who's having an elegant, minimalist Christmas! Lovely to see that Nellie is making herself right at home and either the Mister will get the hang of it or Nellie will just be in touch with her masculine side! How about making her the Budmistress?! Hope you're having a happy weekend with your birthday celebrations and loved ones x
  39. Love your cards, Darnell! The white Daisy coming through the blue & purple inks is genius, & I love the black on white wreath! Something you don't see very often, but it's beautiful.
    Thanks for your card! I appreciate you thinking of me. I'm making progress, but the incision is itching like crazy!!! Should be able to get rid of the sling in about 10 days. Yes, I'm counting!
    Second ..... Nellie looks soooo cute!!
    And last but definitely not least ..... your cards are stunning. I love the stenciled daisy on the first one, it's so pretty and such a great effect from the lift technique.
  49. Happy birthday to the Mister! It seems you both have a quite loud weekend with boys and dogs. :-)
    I like artistic background on your blue card with a daisy. Fantastic done! <3
    The black and white Christmas card is very inovative. You have "broken" black background with dry embosing very well. Nice done!
    Thank you for sharing photo of Nellie. I have to smile about her changing gender. :-) Our parrot did it by itself. :-) We called him Rocky and after 18 years "he" has decided to becom "she" and started to lay the eggs...
    Have a great week!
    Hugs, Sonja
  50. Both cards are so striking, I love the white stencilling on the beautiful blue background - I bet you are glad you didn't thrown away that background now, it looks fabulous.
    I always love black and white and although I would never have thought of the combo for Christmas, you have inspired me to give it a go now!
    Belated birthday wishes to hubby, I hope he had an enjoyable day. It looks like Nellie is settling in well, she is just adorable (I may say that a lot!).
    Hugs, Annie xxx
  51. Nellie looks right at home. It's funny how quickly you can fall in love, isn't it? I'm in love with your cards, especially the soft daisy on blue which was an unloved background till you got your baby wipes out. I still need to put some effort into finding that big new box I recently bought. Your Christmas card is striking, as black and white tends to be, and I love the unexpected look for a Christmas card. Cool looking wreath. Hard to show dimension against a black background. My weekend was busy work, not even stamping. Today was time out with the dogs and still no stamping. I sure don't want to lose all that stamping momentum I had built up.
  52. I'm wondering how you managed to remove that much ink with a baby wipe, it looks like there had never been any ink in that (previous) blue spot! The black and white card is very elegant and beautiful!
    Hugs to you and Nellie, and Happy belated Birthday to the Mister 🎈!
  53. I love your smooshy background, it made for a perfect sunflower! Your next card is quite intriguing in it's stout, bold color! Enjoy your Mister, your grandsons & granddogs, and especially your new "buddy"!
  55. Two beauties, Darnell - just love the big flower stenciled out of your background! And what a stunning black/white Christmas card!! Sweet Nellie/Buddy too - bet you're glad of the company!!
  57. Awwww. She's adorable. And so lucky to live at your house. Alles Gute for the Mister. And kudos on your artsy fartsy creation. It's just lovely.
  58. Your flowercard is stunning! Love the blue and bit grungy look! And the x-mas card is one that will stand out in any bunch of cards! HB for your hubby and hope the dogs kept all in whole pieces? Hugs, Gerrina
