Holiday Greenery ~ With a Twist!

Hello Stamplings!

I hope this finds you well and, if not, I'm sending you squishy cyber hugs with the hope you'll soon feel better. It's always so difficult to be far away from someone we love who could use a real-life in-person hug. Thank goodness we all have vivivacious imaginations so you can feel well and properly squished over the interwebs!

And how are you doing with those holiday cards? It's that time of year, even if it does seem like we just put those holiday decorations away! Today is the 10th of the month, so I'm here with some inspiration for you for the November Twofer Card Challenge. To help you with those ideas for Christmas cards, our prompt this month is:

 HOLID🎄Y GREENERY!

The Holiday Greenery my two designs have in common is the NBUS Bold Borders Yuletide die from Papertrey Ink.

Wait. What? My cards are for the same occasion and that's a TCC no-no!
No worries! There's a fun and welcome twist to TCC this time, so my cards for the same occasion are okay!! Because we are all busy making holiday cards right now, I decided to waive the rule of "two different occasions."

Of course, you're welcome to make your two different designs for two different occasions, but if you want to make two different designs for the same occasion, such as Christmas, go for it!! Just remember you still have to use the same stamp, die, or stencil to showcase the Holid🎄y Greenery prompt on both your different designs!

Onefer
This first design couldn't be more QACAS! I attached a panel of Christmas green glitter paper to the card base and glued the holly frame over that. To finish I glued on the die-cut sediment from Creative Expressions. A couple of clear enamel drops and shazambam, Santa came to town!

Twofer
My second horizontal design uses just one side of the Holly Frame and is pretty self-exploratory. The sediment from MFT was heat-embossed in rose gold e/p.

My perfect color-match enamel bling was Hammy's idea. I used one of those old-timey paper punches to punch a circle from the same paper I used to mat and cut the frame. Then I glued the circles down and glued clear enamel dots over the top.

And to show my appreciation for Hammy's idea, I made three more dots to bling his water bowl. As if he needs any more bling in his cage!

~~~
Join Us!
This is our last challenge of 2019 and I look forward to seeing your festive holiday designs in the gallery this month! It's hard not to use some kind of greenery on our holiday cards this time of year! And as you can see from my cards, your Holiday Greenery does NOT need to be green!!
Pop over to the Twofer Card Challenge where you'll find the Team has made beautiful inspiration cards for you! We are also fortunate to have the lovely Nanc' Leppek as our talented Guest Designer this month!
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!

  1. Beautiful cards Darnell. The green shmarkly one is stunning, and the other a great alternate use for the die cat - well, part of it - and thanks for the squishy hugs - most appreciated and timely tonight, thank you!
    So glad to see a pic of Hammy in amongst all his bling - he really loves the shiny stuff doesn't he, and he is so clever to be able to make it as well as use it!

  8. I love that you used traditional colors but not together. The green sparkle card is beautiful and the red and white is so festive. Speaking of festive, look at Hammy! He is so adorable in his Santa hat resting among his Christmas decorations. Thanks for letting us make two Christmas cards this month if we want to since that is the theme right now.

  13. Wow, loving both of your Twofer cards Auntie! The first one is so CAS but oh so beautiful with the green sparkle paper. Looks like it would have taken longer to make. Love this die! I love your second on as it shows how to stretch this die and get more use out of it and a whole different look. Loving the embossing folder you used and of course love Hammy's clever idea to make the enamel bling match perfectly. He is so clever! Hammy is looking fabulous with all his bling as well. lol Hugs, Brenda

    Oh, your cards are elegant. That Hammy is a smart little fella. Of course he needs more bling. Generous of you to add to his little collection.

    Who makes that beautiful holly embossing folder? I really love that. [Bunny]

  15. D I'm so happy to see that this die is no longer on the NBUS list - it really is so gorgeous! I love both designs - it's wonderful in green or red or any other color I imagine - but it's this fab embossed background with the red that has won my heart today - such a great idea to punch up the holly!
    [your birthday card was so wonderful, too - thank you so much!]

  23. So glad I saw your post as I had not seen any inkling of the next Twofer challenge. So if at all possible I will try to add some greenery to my card making this week. I certainly love the festive designs you made here and I am so inspired now. They look gorgeous and your use of the lovely die two ways is awesome.

  24. Hi Darnell, I love both cards.

    I don't make Christmas cards, but buy charity ones. With only having on real working arm right now, I think I will have to start writing them up a few a day.

    Hope you've had a lovely weekend. Sue

  30. Two fabulous cards Darnell and the frame looks beautiful in white with the pretty sparkly green glitter card, and then the clever use of just one side in a horizontal design with the wonderful embossed holly in the background, and a very clever idea to use little punched pieces of the red card with clear enamel dots over the top to get the right colour for your embellishments. Well done to Hammy. x

  31. Amazing cards, Darnell!! Love them both, such fabulous die you used and great idea using only a part of it for the second card!
    Hammy have had a really fabulous idea with the color-match enamel blings!! Give him many thanks from me for the tip!! :D

  32. Oh so festive! That green glittery background really highlights that pretty coverplate die. And it's fabulous. Cut in white, it really almost outshines that green background. Love that first one! And your second card... Pretty in reds! The embossing folder is stunning, and says 'Merry Christmas' all by itself, but the center panel and those created dots with the side of foliage looks downright amazing. You've gone and rocked these two beauties. Love 'em! Sending hugs. Bev

  39. Your holiday frame die is fantastic, Dolly! What a gorgeous card with the white die-cut over the glittery green background. Even better when it turns out so beautifully and is quick and easy to do! :)

    Your second card is awesome too ... love the RED die-cut! Really pops against all that white space. Love, Lolly

  40. Darnell, your cards are amazing. I love that glittery background for the full frame card. And -- So smart to cut a bit of a line of your frame for the second card. Stunning and brilliant. Fabulous stuff.

  41. Love all the sparkle - can't decide which one I like best. Good use of your greenery. Hammie looks so cute in his Santa hat. Sending best wishes to you and Hammie for a Happy Holiday Season.

  42. Your cards are definitely holiday-handsome! I especially love the green one. It's not often you see a card that is just green and white, with no red or other contrasting color. I need to make a few more Christmas cards, so I will definitely try to join in on the fun this month. Thanks for the inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's some very festive white and red greenery you've got there, Darnell! Loving all that sparkle behind the most QACAS card. What a gorgeous frame/background die that is! I also love how you turned it into a border for your second card. Looks like it just came that way! Embossing folders are my other favorite card making tool... along with stamps, dies, and pretty papers. Clever Hammy for the red bling, too!

  44. You never fail to impress me with your creativity with this challenge. Love the bling and the texture and CAS design of card 2. Thanks for the hug and sending on back x

  47. Two so very different looking cards and oh so shmarkly. I do so hope that hammy has a very big penthouse suite cage as befits his official status of being your right/left hand man. Very hectic here with the errection of the summer house having been a major planning and project management procedure. All finished now and looking Ticketeyboo. Hugs Anne.

  48. You've used christmas greenery in very innovative way on your cards. I like them both. I was quite sure, that red enamel dots on the second design are Hammy's idea. :-)

  61. These are fab, but unfortunately for the challenge, I've finished, written, addressed, and stamped all my Christmas cards. But I promise to take part in one soon! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks for the cyber hugs, Darnell. I can use one since I'm bummed about not entering this challenge. It's difficult enough to type one-handed let alone make cards that way. Fortunately I got all my Christmas cards done before my thumb surgery so I'm good in that department. I just miss making cards. And of course I have so many ideas running around in my head just like visions of sugar plums.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Look at all of that sparkly goodness on your glittery green Christmas card! It may be QACAS, but it really packs a punch! Your partial frame is a wonderful border for the long sentiment. Such a great idea to use the same colored paper under the clear drops!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks for having me as a guest this month! I was being completely truthful when I said the tenth of the month is my favorite day despite it being my birthdate...LOL. As for your cards....This is a really gorgeous die that you have used and I love both ways you've used it! Your embossed background is so deeply etched on the red one and the green one is so eye catching with all the shine! Well done! As for my plans for Thanksgiving, they are not concrete! It will have to be a last minute visit if at all. I hope that is okay! I just don't feel right making any plans when I don't know what's in store yet. I have your number and we shall see. HUGS to you and yours!

  65. Both of these cards are gorgeous but I'm completely smitten with the green sparkly one!

  66. Whoa! I think Hammy needs to come to my house and help me with crafty tips as well, because that custom colored enamel dot idea is genius! I love both of these cards..and especially like the fact that you used the same die for two very different looks.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oooo - yummy frame die, Darnell - just love your twofer! Especially love how you used it like a mantle with the sentiment above! And the sparkle looks amazing on card one!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Great twist for the last 2019 challenge & you've used one of my favorite dies, Darnell! Can't believe I haven't pulled it out in ages, but now I have to. Great idea to cover the punched holes with clear dots for matching embellishments!

  69. My goodness theses are both so elegant and beautiful! I sure do love the glittery look of both cards and CAS designs.
