Inspiration II

Hello Stamplings!

I'm like a well-oiled machine at this point with the finish line just ahead. I hope you feel the same way! Next is baking ~ yummo!

I have a few more cards to share before I take a bit of a break until the new year and I'm going to zing them out to you over the next few days. I thought about putting them all in one post, but if you're like me, you start to get gorfetful if you look at a blog post with too many photos.

Without further a dew let's start with a coupla no-line watercolor cards.

Onefer
This NBUS "Flambeau" stamp from Penny Black was colored with Memento markers directly onto the stamp, spritzed with water, and stamped onto mixed media paper. I filled in a few spots with Ziggies where the color didn't stamp completely. (So, hmm, now that I think about it, it isn't technically no-line watercoloring, but rather, the direct-to-stamp technique gives the look of no-line watercoloring.) I added a border of black glossy paper to the left-hand side of the card to balance out the design.

I wanted Hammy to glossify the berries, but he's already in the kitchen testing the rum for the fruit cake. I haven't used it since last year and he was afraid it might have gone bad. Uh huh. Actually, I'm a great one to talk. I waz obviously init earlier or I wunta fagott'n to ground my shimage.

Twofer
This Stampendous stamp is called "Winter Birds" and I painted and stamped it using the same technique as my first card. After it was dry, I added the sediment and, again to balance the design, I added an embossed pine bough in the upper left corner. I added a plaid mat before attaching it to the card base.

Threefer
I used the same stamp in a different design for this card. Here it is heat-embossed in white on gold glossy paper. I added a vellum sediment banner, also heat-embossed in gold. To add more interest, I added dots of snow using a white pen, scored three lines, and added some gold and white stars that Hammy glued together for me. Before he went to the kitchen.

Your first card is really amazing and and with the bird motif I prefer the second card. The motif comes into its own better.

Three awesome designs, Darnell. I like your gold card with heat embossed birds, I like your colored birds, but most of all three I like the candle. It's really festive card with vintage motiv. My trials with coloring directly to the stamp wasen't even near to the perfection you've made.
By the way, how ended the testing of the rum? I hope without the hangover... :-)
Have a great day!
Hugs, Sonja

Beautiful cards, Darnell! I love the candle. I've not seen that stamp before and the birdies are darling. I'm off to buy cookie ingredients today and the baking starts tomorrow. Slowly getting things checked off the list. Wish I could move a little faster. lol Hugs, Sharyn

Absolutely beautiful cards. Love the birds in the no line. Colorful and so lovely.

Tell Hammy, make sure that stuff isn't rock gut. If he needs to get some new just get it. No taking a nip on the way home though. [Bunny]

The candle is beautiful, even if it's not grounded. Alcohol will cause that and I hope you don't let Hammy drive after his kitchen visit. Love the birds, especially the last card. It is stunning.

The end result with this stamped water color technique is amazing, and you did a great job applying all the colors on these large stamps! The heat embossed design looks great too with a completely different result using the same stamp.

All really beautiful cards. I love the adorable birds on a branch. I forget about the coloring on stamp. Love that no line watercolor look.

I adore the Threefers Darnell, beautifully done, and the candle is a super PB image and perfect for the direct to stamp technique, then your cutsie birds singing their hearts out, such fun and another wonderful watercolour masterpiece, and the green plaid in the background goes perfectly, then the same stamp given a totally different look white embossed on the gold and embellished with the vellum sentiment and layered stars which looks fantastic. Glad you are almost there and enjoy your baking. I'm afraid I am nowhere near as organised but will do my best to get everything done. We mostly spend Christmas on our own so luckily not too much to worry about on the baking front etc. x

Wonderful set of cards, Darnell!! Your watercolor cards are super lovely!! It's a technique that I need more practice with. Love those darling bird images! It make me smile this morning when I saw four blue jays and one red-headed woodpecker out my kitchen window! Wonderful bird image embossed in white against the glossy paper, too! Take care and enjoy the holidays!!

Your two no-line watercolor cards are adorable!! It's a technique that seems easy but I have always the problem of too much water, I don't know why. I need to try again, surely, thanks for the lovely inspirations!
Also you golden card is delightful, and love the vellum for the sentiment!

conil said...

Don't care which technique you used, it looks like no-line coloring to me and I like it...a lot. Can't stop making cards myself...time is slipping away and I am NOT prepared. Hope that fruit cake comes out OK...does rum ever go bad?

Beautiful cards Darnell and now I'm left wondering why have I never thought of embossing with white on gold cardstock?!! Soooooo pretty and I think I need to try that out! Glad you're in the home stretch and that the baking can begin...I'd say I hope I can smell it from here, but afraid my sniffers out of commission at the moment. Dang it! Have fun! Hugs. :0)

You could knock me over with a feather off of one of those darling little birds on your Twofer! These are all fantastic, Darnell! Looks like they took some time, too. I'm doing better here. Decorated finally, and I need to make 8 more cards, but most are in the mail. Yay! Maybe I'll do some baking. Trouble is, that means I'll do some eating, too. Merry Christmas!

A trio of fabulousness Darnell! Those birds are extra festive I like the two different looks you've given them!

A fabulous trio of cards Darnell.... wonderful colouring direct to the stamp, both cards look beautiful and the white embossing on shiny gold..wwoww - elegance, hugs and have a magical Christmas and all the very very best for 2020, Robyn

Cheryl W. said...

You nailed it with these three beauties. Even without Hammie's sparkleizing, they all look great. I think the third one with the white heat-embossed image on gold is my favorite. There's just something so elegant about white and gold together. I finally finished my 2019 Christmas cards today. Guess I may as well start on 2020 cards now. It would be nice to get some done ahead of time.

Karenladd said...

You may be like a well-oiled machine right now, but I'm more like a rusted, sputtering antique that's run out of gas...argh! Why, when we have the entire year to prepare, do I always find myself scrambling last minute??? Well, at least I have a nice stack of cards made and I may even send a few!
Those cheery little birds by Stampendous are adorable and I love how different they look just by changing your style and colors.

Loving the traditional feel Nd look of the candle image. I’ve never tried this technique and I suspect this image sort of looks its best with it. Inspiring to see how different the birdies look used with different techniques, so sweet!

Somehow you always manage to surpass yourself, Darnell. You've created a lovely CAS card with a beautiful pseudo no-line watercolour image. I love the way you've coloured directly onto the Penny Black stamp, spritzed it, and then stamped it. It sounds easy but I'm not sure I would succeed in having mine look like a piece of art. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

Gosh, your direct-to-stamp-that-looks-like-no-line-watercolouring is just dreamy, Darnell ... both on the festive candle and on those sweet birds! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Time Out! LYAMYMA ... LTCTOD! Big hugs and bisous, Anita :)

Amazing works of art Dolly! Love the first two done with watercolour spritz (that's what I call it, but there are lots of different names for this fabulous technique). Both cards are STUNNING! And I love the winter birds heat embossed in white on gold. Very elegant, especially with the vellum banner. You are an inspiration to us getting all these wonderful cards in the mail! Love, Lolly
