Gnomes in Love and a Flying Pig!

Hello Stamplings!

I'm pickled tink to have actually used some newly-acquired NBUS for my cards today. You know how sometimes oftentimes the new schtuff lingers for months and years before I use it, so sharing these cards is a proud moment!

Onefer

Now I know you saw these guys all over Blogland at Yuletide so they aren't new to you, but I didn't get mine (from Simon) until after the holidays so I have used them to make an anniversary card.
What you might not know is that both the men and women gnomes of Sazinwagnsh wear beards. I know, odd, right?! (I hate to be stereotypical, but you can usually tell the females from the males by how soft and shiny their beards are.) So in the photo above, Mrs. Enivl Ganome is in the watercolored purple and Mr. Schlmre Ganome is in the blue. They are holding the heart between them. The blue heart pp is as old as the hills; it is matted with shiny gold. The sentiment from GKW is heat-embossed in gold.

Twofer
And this little piggie is fresh out of the paddock at Gerda Steiner Designs! I had to have him as soon as I saw Gerda's pre-release artwork. I made him an interesting color on accident. I smooched my w/c paper by scribbling my blue Ziggies on my glass mat, spritzing the ink, and schmearing the paper around in it like a pig would. Then I stamped and clear-embossed the pig and balloon from the "You Lift Me Up" set and Ziggied them both.

I thought I could paint over the blue background and the green worked just fine over the balloon, but the pink I used on the pig did not cover all the background blue. I didn't even notice it until I uploaded my photo. But, hey, it's art which means a blue and pink and brown flying piglet is just fine! To add even more pizzazzaz, Hammy winked the balloon and the pig and glossified his sunglasses!

The Mister

Long-time friends of my blog know that The Mister (Kevin) has struggled with back issues for decades. It was manageable over time because the episodes when the nerves would pinch were at first years apart, and then maybe once a year. But last year all that changed when he suffered from four excruciating episodes in one year, so he set things in motion to have surgery to bring him relief.

That surgery happened yesterday. It went well and the surgeon was very pleased. I'm so happy for him that he will no longer have to keep himself tightened up all the time to avoid an episode. All those years of doing so, however, have given him a steel core which will now aid in his months-long recovery.

I'm not sure how much nursing he will need that will keep me away from the computer, but I do have a scheduled post coming up on Saturday for the annual Turner Syndrome Awareness Hop. I hope you'll stop back then. 😍 MWAH!

What gorgeous cards - and if you can have a flying pig then of course you can have a pig with blue patches. Call him a Gloucester Old Spot, they have grey patches which if you squint hard enough could be classed as blue.
Hope Mr Darnell makes a speedy recovery and doesn't need too much nursing!

Your gnome card is adorable and I love your piggy card! Prayers for the Mister for a speedy recovery! My husband had major back problems also. He had three surgeries in the last 10 years for his back. He still gets some pain but he keeps doing things that he knows he shouldn’t do like pick up real heavy things.
Have a great day!

Darnell, I really like both of your cards. I made a bunch of gnome cards in December...they are so much fun! Your little piggy is just charming. :-) We are so pleased that you (and your little piggy) joined us this week at Watercooler Wednesday.

Two cute cute cards. I have been looking for some gnomes - just haven't found the ones I want just yet. And then the pig - rainbow pig - absolutely darling. Good luck to hubby in his recovery from his back surgery.

Okay, so now you have challenged me to get out Mr. Curly Top Ganome and get to using him. As for piggy in motion...if it is moving, then it can be any color it pleases. A balloon ride is a great way to scout for a new mud puddle. Love them both!

Birgit said...

Both of your cards are adorable Darnell but your flying pig card definitely makes me smile. I'm so glad you linked up to the Double D "Balloon" challenge. Best of luck to you! ps... I hope your hubby has quick healing.

Being in pain is not fun. Especially when it is chronic. I hope this will have fixed everything for the Mister. Tell him to remember to take it one day at a time.

Your cards are so cute. I knew the littlest gnome was the woman by her lovely locks and the pig just looks like a normal pig. They're never one color especially after they've rolled around in the pig pen. So cute. [Bunny]

The gnomes are adorable as a couple. They are on my wish list since I couldn't get them at Christmas. They were never in stock. Pigs fly in my world so I love him and his bluish coloring. He was probably rolling around in the blueberries you dropped and just stayed stained! I'm so happy Kevin's surgery went so well and he won't have pain and spasms anymore.

I love the gnomes as a couple. so cute with that gold heart. Your flying pig withjust a bit of mottled skin is perfect. So glad the new is good about Kevin. Sending hugs.

Mr & Mrs Gnome are so delightful, love the dies and the colours you chose, so pretty. Such a fun description too LOL. First look at your piggy, I loved the colours and thought them so clever, then I read about the colouring and thought what a clever result, it must be 'cause you didn't notice LOL. I really hope hubby is OK and has a speedy recovery.

I'm happy to see you managed to set your gnomes free, Darnell, and I love how you have used them to create an anniversary card. Your piglet card is simply adorable. I can totally see why you needed to have this stamp, and your multi-colouring is what I would call a happy accident.
You two must be so relieved that The Mister finally had his surgery and that it went well. DH had a pinched nerve last summer and it was horrible, so I'm really hoping that the surgery will have put a stop to The Mister's episodes and that his recovery will be swift and smooth.
Sending hugs and positive vibes!

The Ganome pair look like they are ready to celebrate! They make a fun anniversary card! And your flying pig is perfect! Love the colors! He looks like he's been rolling in some fun stuff and he's very pleased with himself! He certainly brings a smile! I'm glad Kevin has had the surgery and I hope once the recovery is over, he will be pain free. XOXO

Verna Angerhofer said...

What a cute bearded gnome couple. I like that idea for an anniversary card and I am sure it will bring much joy to the recipients too. And, that pig is so cool with his sunglasses. I think the watercolors on it are perfect and the blue only makes it look more interesting. I am sure the pink on a real pig could be different shades too. Some have a bit of gray mixed in with the pink and this is what it reminds me of. I hope your dear hubby will have a fast recovery and I am glad he will be relieved of the pain he had been experiencing. You take care too!

Maria said...

I do love gnomes and love your anniversary card, Darnell...so cute!! Love the gold heart and background tiny heart paper! And, your pig with sunglasses and the balloon is so fun and cute...fab coloring!! I sure hope your husband improves with his back pain. I had surgery in my twenties for scoliosis and have a steel rod in my back. I suffer from sciatica quite often, but life goes on. Anyways, I'm sure you will be a great nurse to your hubby and I hope he does very well with recovery! Have a great weekend, hugs!!

I knew right away which one was the girl because her and her beard are shorter. Love your gnomes as a wedding or anniversary card! And the pig! Well, you know I've only just bought my first (ahem) several GS stamps and I'm now a huge fan! They did finally arrive after the USPS oops. This one is so cute and I think your pig is colored perfectly! Love the blue showing through. I absolutely believe in free expression through art, ha! Seriously, though, he/she looks fabulous! Now, The Mister... I'm glad to hear he's in the recovery phase of his surgery and will soon emerge as Steel Man, pain free and happy. Sending hugs to his caregiver, 'cause you made need one now and then.

Hi Darnell, Loving the cards.

Wishing your hubby a speedy recovery (although it will probably take some time really). My dad had to have a disc removed amnd then that part of his back fused. Luckily he was lucky that he was able to get back to a normal life. I have Arthritis in my two lower vertabrea and they are slowly crumbling at the edges, which mean they move and can trap the sciatic nerve. My back can lock up or go into spasms, so I totally sympathise with your hubby.

Knew immediately that Enivl was a girl...hard to miss with her neat beard and lovely lavender frock. I love that you didn't save the gnomies for Christmas...perfect for Spring...maybe they hide the Easter eggs.
And that pig...my spirit animal...Gerda Steiner draws the best critters and you've made this one come alive with your excellent coloring. What a cutie, floating up into the firmament.
Hope Kevin is feeling comfortable, at least. It's truly wonderful that he could get this done before Spring. I'm sure he (and you) are glad the surgery is done and that it went well. Give him a big wet one to make him feel better.

I love your lady and gent gnomes Darnell with the quite unpronounceable names, so cute and love the hearts dp, and then your sweet flying pig with a touch of blue looks fine, perhaps flying high gave him a touch of hypothermia which gave his skin a blue tinge..lol. I love the sentiment on the balloon too. I hope the Mister will heal quickly and I'm sure you will be a great nurse. x

Many healing wishes to your Mister. Back surgery is no fun, but with TLC from the world's best wife-nurse, I'm certain he'll recover in record time. I'll still be sending him (and You) my best vibes for strength, patience, and most of all healing. Your cards are awesome. I have NBUS gnome stamps and a gnome die set, too. I NEED to get them out and use them. Thank you for the inspiration. As for your flying pig, I have no doubt he's gotten a few little bruises from bumping into tree branches and telephone poles, so the bits of blue (and other colors) simply depict the reality of his flight!

Wonderful cards, Darnell. I love those little gnomes. They're popping up everywhere and I must get them! Great colours on the lovebirds, although the beards make them a rather odd couple. ;) I'll have to make a note of the odd customs of those Sazinwagnsh gnomes for future reference. The gold detail and embossing is the perfect finishing touch. Love it! Thanks so much for sharing with us for our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

Fabulous cards Darnell, the pig is my particular favourite, I have a collection of piggies in various forms ( no real ones, sadly) that I have amassed over the years so anything porcine gets my vote!! Your Mister will not know himself. My own Mister had a discectomy several years ago now and it was wonderful to see him standing at his full 6'2" after years of hunched shoulders and back. I wish him a speedy recovery and rehabilitation xx

Oh goodness Auntie, this first card is adorable! I have been seeing these guys/gals all over blogland and I love them. Never would have thought to use them to make an anniversary card though. But it works and it's so adorable! Loving the heart paper too. Love it, but am totally in love with your twofer. That pig just makes me smile from ear to ear! I love how you did your background and then stamped the pig and balloon. I so love the colors on the pig-he is looking so smart sporting those colors! He is oh so adorable too. So love this card! Oh goodness, so glad the Mister decided to do something about his back! No sense suffering if you don't have to. I'm so happy that the surgery went well and they are pleased with the results. I know it will be a long road to recovery, so will pray it goes smoothly for both of you! Sending my love and hugs as well as my prayers, Brenda

I saw a reference to the Mister on your TS post and had to come over to see what it was all about. I'm relieved to hear that this was a planned surgery, but I'm sure the recovery is going to be long and involved. Good thing he has you to bring him hot tea and bug him about not over-doing it, right?
Don't know which card I love more...because those gnomes are just hilarious and so darn cute. However, I think that flying pig is my favorite...or am I just dazzled by his flashy sunglasses?

Do you skip over names you can't pronounce when you're reading, Darnell, because I just did. ;) Even so those gnomes are so cute together and while not a full grown beard, some of us have more hair on our face that we wish. That fat little piggy is cute in any color and I'm glad you posted him even though he is a little blue. It shows us not to be too critical of ourselves. So sorry to hear about The Mister but glad the surgery has relieved his pain. Both of you take time and take care.
