Leaves of Many Colors

Hello Stamplings!

How are you on this fine weekend, already ten days into April? I used to say we whooshed from one date to another, but that word seems inadequate nowadays, doesn't it?

Then I went to my The Saurus and found out that it really is the best word after all, although I do love the sound of velocious and I think we should bring it back into popular usage. Then again, it does sound an awful lot like ferocious, so maybe that's why it went into obsolation.

I'm looking out my window on a beautiful day in awe of the giant Japanese Maple tree fully festooned with new leaves. The green hue is almost neon bright and I'm not sure if the photo can capture it. Lots of plants are breaking out in many shades of fresh green and they are just lovely, but that towering maple green grabs all the attention. And I'm sure on the other side of the world you are equally in awe as you enjoy your leaves turning all the warm colors of fall!

Why all this talk about 🍃🍂🍁leaves🍁🍂🍃?

You guessed it, that's the prompt word for this month's Twofer Card Challenge! And here are my makes to inspire you:
The leaf stem my card designs have in common is from Paper Smooches.

Onefer
For my thinking of you design, I used a background I made during a crafty Zoom session with friends. This technique is called "faded water stenciling." It's a fun and easy technique which you can see demonstrated in a Splitcoast video by Dina Kowal. I've removed the sediment from the packaging so I can't tell you who makes it, but perhaps some kind reader will know.

As you can tell by the rather plump glossifying, Hammy is home again!🐹 Because of the delay, he and Fitzwilliam🐸missed a fun tour of the Greek islands, but they were more than ready to be home!

Twofer
Haha, look at that winking! You should see it in real life! Even as tired as he was, he still kept a steady hand, bless him. I gold-embossed the sediment and decided a bit of beautiful leafy Washi tape was just the bit of sumpin' sumpin' the design needed.

Thank you

I hope you'll be able to join in with your leafy creations! We are delighted to have Guest Designers Alison and Natalie with us this month! You will be inspired by their designs, as well as the designs of the entire DT! I do appreciate all your support of the Twofer Card Challenge and I hope you have fun while increasing your stash!
~~~
I will leave you with a few more funnies from Mamie:
  • My wife asked me to take her to one of those restaurants where they make the food right in front of you. I took her to Subway and that's how the fight started.
  • During the Middle Ages they celebrated the end of the plague with wine and orgies. Does anyone know if there is anything planned when this one ends?
  • I see articles about people my age mountain climbing. I feel good getting my leg through my underwear without losing my balance.
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!* Keep safe!

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse, especially since I've been slow with my return visits because of my back. Special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!

  6. What a lovely soft, leafy background, Darnell ... such a delicious contrast with the black scalloped frame and that plump glossfied sprig! How's that for both of us being similarly inspired through the ether ... black frame over a soft leafy background ... great minds! Your birthday card is shimmeringly charming ... the washi is such a gorgeous addition to the ombré leaves and elegant gold sentiment! Good to hear Hammy is back safe and sound after his adventures ... he sure makes his mark! Oh, and thanks for the funnies ... they raised a chuckle here! LYAMYHAHMA ... SWTCFSLY! Big hugs and bisous, Anita :)

  7. So glad to see Hammy (and Fitzwilliam) got home safely, albeit without seeing the Greek Islands :(. All that travel must have inspired him to go to greater heights with his winking and glossifying.
    Wonderful cards Darnell, and I love that leafy background you created.
    Yes, the leaves are turning and rapidly falling here now...
    Stay safe
    Blessings

  8. So happy to hear that Hammy and Fitzwilliam made it home safe and sound and that Hammy is still happy to help you wink all the things. :) The sneak peek into your backyard shows a beautiful space in which to wander and dream. And your cards are just beautiful. The technique on the first card is so pretty and I like the bold of the black elements helping it pop. Contrast it with the light and bright and sparkly second card. Beautifully done! Thank you so much for sharing. Have a lovely weekend.

  9. Leaves always look serene and calm...and both cards are beautiful!
    The weather here has gone from 25 C on a wednesday and the next wednesday -2 C ! And this weekend will be a gray and rainy one; so mature took a small break and the blooming is very slow this year... Not only waiting for that to happen...also waiting for the opening of the shops (in need of some basics) and one thing to leave this world... Enjoy the weekend!

  11. Oh yes, spring is on it's way here in the UK, not quite as vibrant as that fabulous tree of yours just yet!! What super cards these are and the washi just the right sumpin' indeed. Fabulous funnies!! xx

  12. Thanks for making me smile with the funnies! The leaves on your tree are beautiful and your cards are just lovely. Just spent 3 days returning from phoenix to Michigan. Love when we get into Missouri and we start to see trees budding and colors getting greener. It is a wonderous sight. Michigan is still a few weeks behind that but we are seeing some green which is nice.

  13. Ooh, that background is just beautiful. I will have to go over an see how it's done. That is just the kind of thing I like to try. The fresh green look of your second card is gorgeous and I'm glad to see Hammy busy again. Thanks for having me. x

  14. A great pair of cards for this month's challenge Darnell. I will have to check out that tutorial you mentioned. Thanks for having me along this month!.

    Love seeing a view of your Japanese Maple in your yard. They don't get that big where I am.

  15. Very pretty cards Darnell, we aren't seeing any more snow, but it is also early, we may still get a blast of it but currently we see brown. A few more days of sunshine and we will start seeing some green. Pretty leaf cards, those are some of my favourite to make..

  16. Welcome home, Hammy. I love your glossing and winking. The background on the first card is wonderful, Darnell. I went to check out the video and remembered I saw it earlier and then promptly forgot about it. I've written it down now so I can try it. I love how the leaves fade on the second card and it matches the washi too. Beautiful!

  17. Both cards are beautiful. I love the background on the first card. I always enjoy your chatter and Mamie's funnies are a hoot. Our trees are leafing in all colors of green. The daffodils are gorgeous all around the garden and in several vases in the house. They won't last, but we enjoy them while we can. Thanks for all the smiles you bring us. Enjoy your day!

  18. These leafy cards are the bomb. I love the first technique and the pretty designs on both cards. Now Hammy and Fitzwilliam have a trip to look forward to next time. The winking looks great, Hammy. You can tell he takes that seriously. I will bring the wine! I do tend to fall over putting in my right leg.

  20. Hi Darnell, Loving the theme of the cards and I love green, so a double whammy.

    I'd say the days and months are going by like greased lightening.

    Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend. Sue

  21. Two great cards! Your faded water stenciling turned out perfectly and makes a great background for that beautiful glossy leaf (welcome home Hammy!). Love the other card with all those shades of green for the leaves!

  23. Came for the cards, stayed for the giggles. You've certainly fulfilled both of my purposes...that pretty leaf is simply lovely on both cards. Hammy glossed and winked them to the nth degree. Bet you're glad to have him home. Hope you're feeling chipper and as bright as that maple in your yard.

  24. Your leafy cards are both so gorgeous! I think leaves work for all sorts of occasions. I love the winking so Hammy although tired did a fantastic job. Thanks for the humor too.

  25. Your leafy cards are fabulous!! Love the first one with the faded watercolouring technique. Your black frame and glossy leaf sprig really pop off the gorgeous colours of the background. Your second card is AMAZING with the different shades of leave sprigs ... ombre at it's BEST! Love the all sparkle ... so happy to see Hammy is back and working hard! :) Love, Lolly

  29. Your leaves Twofer is a symphony in green, Darnell. And it is obvious that Hammy is back. :-) Fantastic cards. The background on the first card is fabulous. Just the way, I like the most. Birthday card is just great in green and gold. I like the leaf stem you've used for both cards.
    The look out of your window is stunning. I like spring and all shades of green that nature gives us in April. Thank you for the funnies. :-)

  30. First of all, let me say that I'm so glad to hear Hammy made it home safely, and was ready to jump right back into his job of sparkling and glossifying everything...let him know I think he did a GREAT job for this months cards!! I'm loving the background on your 1st card Darnell...such soft and pretty colors and they really make that black scalloped frame and glossy leaf cluster POP!! Your 2nd card is just as beautiful with the row of sparkling leaf clusters, but as goofy as it sounds, what I really, REALLY like on the 2nd card is the strip of washi tape! I have rolls and rolls of that stuff and all I ever think to do with it is put some across the back of the envelope flap! I wonder if there's any such thing as washi tape classes??? Anyhoo...love both your cards and glad to hear you're enjoying Spring too with all the new colors popping up every day! My favorite thing right now are the daffodils that just bloomed this week because, well they're yellow and that's my favorite color!! Get to go see my grandbabies next weekend too, so I'm one happy girl right now! Oh and thanks for the reminder to put my twofers in the NBUS gallery...always forget but I did just do it! Take care my friend! Hugs. :0)

  31. Two beautiful cards, as always! OK, I have to admit it... I can't say that I don't have any stamps with leaves on them... (I probably have lots of stamps with leaves on them that I have never touched ink.) I just have to think of an idea to use them... two different ways. That's where the real challange is...smile

    I love you little jokes from Mamie, at the end of some of your posts.
    It makes my day..

    I have a question ot ask..."Who is Mamie" She seems like whoever she is...she has to be as joyful to know as you...

  32. Two gorgeous cards. Love Hammie's winking.

    I must have sensed something I played with my Papersmooches botanicals yesterday too! - no pics yet maybe next week - it's wet, cold and miserable here great time to sit with a blanket, something warm and my book.

    Love Mamie's funnies you shared.

  33. Be-leaf me, I love your leafy creations! I'm hoping to create a couple of leafy makes over the next few days. If I do, I'll definitely enter the Twofer challenge! I'm glad Hammy is home safe and sound with his bedazzling talents intact.

  34. OOOH Darnell, your leafy cards are fabulous and I'm wondering if that Maple tree turns to glorious red in the Autumn - they're spectacular - green or red. Now though I am laughing out loud with your funnies from Mamie...I'm not climbing any mountains or par-tis-i-pating in any orgies. Hugs Robyn

  35. Spring is on the way here but....it was frosty last night and the cars had frost on them this morning! Both cards are beautiful Darnell and enhanced by Hammy being home....he was missed x. Thanks for the funnies at the end Darnell, which made me chuckle x.

  36. Those are some vivid green leaves for sure Auntie! Looks beautiful out your window. So inviting. This year is zooming by for me already. I still can't believe we are in April. Loving your twofers Auntie! The color combo is so pretty. Those leaves are fun too, love how your used them. You must have the best stash of washi. lol I love that washi on the second twofer. Glad Hammy is home and wasn't too tired to do his glossifying and winking. He did an excellent job! Hugs, Brenda

  39. Two wonderful acts. I love the first one for its shiny leaves. This glaze looks great on black leaves. In the second tab, I love the gradation of the colors of the leafy twig. And I love the horizontal fine leaf washi tape that fits perfectly with the card

  42. I love Japanese Maples! I wish we had one. Your cards are so pretty and fresh looking and absolutely unique!
    I love the word 'obsolation' - I might have to use that!
    Also love the funnies, especially the last one🤣🤣🤣
    Ps: Some leaves are turning pretty colours here, but I might have to take a road trip to see more. We don'y get the beautiful Fall colours you do.

  45. Your maple tree is just stunning, I always enjoy the fresh greens of spring too. although we have had sunshine here, it is still really cold and it was frosty this morning so the spring loveliness is a little slow this year. Both your cards are great, I love the background on your first and the lovely ombre printing on your second. wonderful shine too of course xx

  46. I'm sure I love leaves every bit as much as flowers. In fact, this Paper Smooches leaf is one of my most frequently used dies, although it appears that it might be a stamp here. Love the gloss on the first and the shimmer on the second. The background is so beautiful on your first card, too. Please tell Hammy "welcome home" for me. Our maples aren't nearly so full up here yet, but we're enjoying many signs of spring. Each sunny day brings out more and more. Rich and I laughed and nodded in full agreement about putting on the underwear, hahahahahaha! Thanks for the funny, Darnell!

  47. Whooshing is good for me (the word, not the actual whooshing which is a bit exhausting for me!) and you're right about velocious: being far too fierce for comfort! Like you, I'm loving watching all the leaves unfurl in those fresh bright greens. Your cards are both beautiful and I love that you used similar colours but they still look very different! I'm also so impressed at the coordination of that washi! LOL at the funnies - thank you for always making me laugh :) Mwah! Vicky x

  48. I 'whooshed' right to the comment form...it is a good word, while 'farthingale' is an interesting word, it sounds rather uncomfortable. Something to do with an underskirt, and I would definitely fall over trying to get the damn thing on...while drinking wine and skipping the whole orgy thing due to the broken hip from the fall, lol! Don't ask me where all that came from...must be grandchildren hangover! Anyhoo.... Great minds think alike, for sure. Those PS leaf dies have been and will continue to be among my top faves forever. Love how you and Hammy have made such beautimous cards with them. Glossy and shimmery. Perfection on paper!! These cards perfectly demonstrate the concept of Twofer. Simply amazing. Stay safe, and sending hugs. xoxo Bev

  49. Both of these are so pretty Darnell, love the shades of green. Things are happening here fast. All the snow is gone, the lilacs have buds, the crocus and daffodils are popping up so that can only mean one more snowfall? or that spring has actually sprung. We'll see.
