Autumn Lanterns

Hello Stamplings!

How are you? I hope you're doing well! We're good. We're enjoying the cooler temps and busy with house and yard projects. And with the fall TV lineup in full swing, I'm away from my computer a lot more.

Then I saw a few challenges I wanted to hit before they close so made this:
This design features the Penny Black Flower Lanterns. It is not NBUS, but I've only used it once before. I started by coloring directly on the stamp with markers and then spritzing, but it didn't work as well as usual, so I used my Ziggies to paint it in, ending up with more of a no-line watercolor look. Hammy, who is bored with me being busy elsewhere, gleefully added schplatters!

Challenges

And sharing ...
These are off-season cards I made a while back, but I think if I don't pop them on here now, I will forget about them by next summer. I figure some of us will have some warm days again with Indian Summers ~ in spite of the fact that some places are already getting snow flurries!🫤

The jar and sediment are NBUS from The Greetery's "Just Mason Around" stamp and die set. The flowers were all die-cut ages ago, waiting patiently in my stash to be colored. I gave the set away, so I don't know the manufacturer.

I stenciled the backgrounds for a bit of fun. Hammy wants to have a go inking the stencils, so we are having the local cobbler prepare little tiny daubers for his feet. They will be sewn from the finest leather and well-supported because the little feller has weak ankles. (All those years on the wheel you know.)

I'll be linking this to Snippets Playground. The jars and flowers were all cut from snippets.

~~~
And then this happened ...
It's been about four years since the last time, so that's not too bad. I did my best cleaning them up. I'm still finding them with my bare feet. The sequints aren't too painful to step on, but those little tiny beads I had in the container (who knew?) are no fun to step on!
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse, being a follower, and leafing me some love!

  1. Beautiful flower lanterns card Darnell. The no-line watercolor look is so effective. Your other cards are so pretty too. I had to smile at your little mishap. I did something similar once with tiny eyelets which bounced all over the floor. I swept them all up, but still kept finding a stray one or two for weeks after. x

  2. Your alchechengi (flower lantern) card looks awesome, your hand-paint is gorgeous! I planted seeds of alchechengi this Summer, and now I have one plant, but still no lanterns!
    Here there are 21 Celsius degree, weather is still hot so there are a lot of flowers, your mason jars don't surprise me :) The stencilled backgrounds are so cute!
    A floor full of beads it's no fun for sure! I'm sure you will find them for a long time!
    Hugs

  3. The flower lanterns are so bright and pretty and make a beautiful Autumn birthday card! Love the jars of flowers with the stenciled background! Can't wait to see Hammy's stenciling with his new daubers! Those little beads can be quite painful on the bare feet. I've had plenty of chances to find that out!

  4. Your lanterns are lovely, Darnell! I think the Zigs were meant to be on this one! I think your mason jar cards would be perfect for get wells or birthdays any time of year, they're so cheerful! OY to the spill... no fun at all!

  5. These chinese lantern flowers are gorgeous Darnell and the effect of the no line watercolouring is beautiful, and love your three different looks with the mason jars and flowers, such bright and pretty colours, and love the stencilling in the backgrounds. When you spill a jar of tiny beads or suchlike on a hard floor they just spread out all over the place, and are such a job to pick up. I did something similar but onto carpet and it wasn't quite so bad. x

  6. Such beautiful cards, Darnell! Love that first one. Bummer about your sequins and beads.

  7. Gorgeous lantern card, Darnell - just love the vivid orange!! Darling ball jar bouquets too! Ugh - been there with dropping things (including glitter) - my tip: put a nylon stocking over one of those narrow vacuum hoses. Picks up the stuff (just be sure to hang onto the stocking tight), hold it over a container, turn off vacuum & pull the items off. Works well for finding little die cuts that have fallen onto the floor when you can't distinguish them from paper scraps!

  8. Hi Darnell! Your flower lantern card is so gorgeous, and your jar cards are beautiful and I like all the different backgrounds! I'm sure Hammie is not running around on the floor right now with the sequins and beads.

  9. Wow, that first card is gorgeous! Love the colors and the no-line look but still having the veins is pretty too. The spill? Well I bet it's happened to ALL of us, some of us are lucky to have carpet where they just hide -- but be careful!

  10. What a beautiful card your lantern one is Darnell, and I am sure Hammy was more than happy to schplatter it for you, and he did a wonderful job of it too.
    Those mason jar cards are so pretty - just what I needed to see as spring is being very slow to spring down here...
    Those beads sound rather dangerous to one's feet - and talking of feet, we will need a photo of Hammy in his 'sponge dauber' shoes!
    Blessings

  11. Spectacular Chinese Lanterns card with your awesome colouring and splatters.

    Loving the mason jars of flowers made with snippets too. Thanks for submitting your homework to the Playground.
    Once you finish clearing up your spillage, come on up to the Treehouse for a hot chilly with a little dash of contraband I have in my satchel !!! X

  12. LOVE those gorgeous lantern flowers, Dolly! The marker and spritz worked great with a little help from your watercolour brushes. I love the bright orange and green together. Your flower-filled mason jars are so pretty. We are still experiencing summer temps here, but are hopeful for rain this Friday. We've been in a drought with no measureable precip for over 100 days. Yikes! Water restrictions still in place, and some areas so bad that some companies that use a lot of water had to actually shut down. That's a first for here. Make sure to wear shoes in your Playhouse! Love, Lolly

  24. Lovely collection of cards Darnell. The lanterns are wonderfully colored. Your mason jar cards would be great to send mid winter to someone with the blues. They sure would send some cheer.

  25. Your lantern project turned out quite lovely! I think it is so fun when we try something and it doesn't quite work out as planned and rather than toss it, we find a was to save it and you definitely did that. So pretty! Thank you so much for sharing with us at the Color Hues!

  26. Your Chinese lanterns are so lovely, Darnell, and it seems to me a happy accident the spray didn't work, because the zigs created some beautiful colors! Thanks so much for joining our 6th birthday party at The Flower Challenge!

  27. Beautiful cards Darnell! Ouch on stepping on the beads though. Those and glitter manage to find themselves all over the place don't they?

  28. Love the no lines look of these super duper chinese lanterns Darnell and I am really pleased that Hammy had a chance to schplatter!! Looking forward to seeing his efforts when the daubed feet are cobbled!! Hope you are keeping well xx

  29. Oh no! This little things can appear everywhere in the house when you already forget the accident. :-) Your cards are wonderful. I like the watercolor look of the autumn lanterns. And summer flowers are so sweet and wonderful put into the jar.

  30. I think you were meant to color those lanterns with Zigs, Darnell, because the result is sheer bliss. Tell Hammy his splatters were perfect too. So sorry about the spillage. At least it's easier to get them all on hardwood floors.

  31. Beautiful card Darnell. Love your coloring on those flowers. Sure wish I could get the hang of the Zigs - but I'll keep trying. It looks so easy and yet I flub it up every time.
    Ouch is about all I can say on the spill! Maybe it's time to train Hammy on how to pick up things like that!

  32. We had some really nice, warm days...with cool to cold nights. Then we went cold, as the cold front came down and reached down into the south as well. But good warm days are coming back and Savannah will be a happy gal for a while again. Yes, the fall TV lineup as well as the streaming shows that are back keeps me busy in the evening too. What a gorgeous card in autumn colors Auntie! I love that stamp and you have colored it with your Ziggies so nicely, love the no line look. Hammy did a great job with his schplatters too! lol Your off season cards are so pretty and makes me long for summer to come back. I love your vibrant colors and that jar is so cute! Glad you posted these! Oh no, spilling beads and sequins is never fun! I can imagine how the beads feel on the feet when you find a rough one. Owie! Hope you are able to find the rest without stepping on them! Hugs, Brenda

  33. I really love your lantern flower card. They are so delicate, yet strong at the same time. Your jars of flowers are also sweet. The stenciling provides some really fun backgrounds. Stenciling is one of my favorite techniques. Why don't I do it more often then??? Spilled sequins and beads are a right of passage for a crafter, aren't they? I guess a vacuum would be the best course of action so that you don't keep feeling them underfoot.

  34. Love your pretty lantern card Darnell..love your snippet jars too…. Your posts always make us a smile..I can just imagine all those sequins on the floor

  35. Hi Darlene! I think you are the most-loved Queen of blogland and that makes hammy of course your funny footman. How happy I was to see your beautiful card in the gallery at Color Hues! The lantern blooms look so pretty boasting your no line watercolor look. And lovely that you added marker details. You rocked these colors!

  36. Love that orange and green and such lovely softness from the watercolour. it looks like a perfect painting and the splatters are perfect. Congrats to Hammy on that one. I feel for you with that spill, my heart sinks just looking at it xx

  37. Oh wow the flower lantern card is gorgeous.

    Can't wait to see what hammy creates with his new shoes!

    OH no! hope all found now - they would hurt! They do tend to go everywhere and be found for months after - I had a friend play with pink glitter once at my house - we kept finding it for months after in all the kitchen drawers!I'm sure you can work out what happened.

  38. Hi Darnell, Hope all is well and you’re not still stepping on sequins by now. LOL I am in California as I type this, a bit unexpectedly and are enjoying the cooler temps and Fall colors for a few more days. as for your beautiful card for Color Hues…What a great save with your Zigs. I really love how this turned out, Hammy’s splatters and all. Hugs and thanks for playing along with us at Color Hues I am always excited to see you in the gallery!

  39. I have to say the way your lantern card worked out is spectacular! Love that watercolor! There is always a flower season somewhere and these pretty little jars of flowers will always be welcome. I have some volunteer impatiens blooming in a pot. It took till fall for the seed to sprout and grow and produce flowers. So cute! A spill like that would be a total loss in my room. I could sweep them up, but I'd never be able to fit the dog hair into the container, ha! Sorry.

  40. I just love laternflowers and these look almost freshley picked; so well-coloured! And the flowers and jars are cards that anybody likes, whatever the season; they look so fresh! Always a pain to try to pick everything up and no fun to hoover it away...we all have had our share of those... Enjoy the cooler weather and the weekend!

  41. Smack me! I don't recall ever seeing a Chinese Lantern flower in real life or on a card. Your card is just wonderful. Hope your feet are not getting owies still. Hugs!

  42. Love your beautiful Chinese Lanterns Sis - I just harvested mine from the garden - they are just so magical! And your flower jars are so pretty, almost making me want it to be summer again! Hope you've gotten all those nasty dots off your floor - been there, done that! xx

  43. Wonderful Chinese Lantern card Darnell - Physalis. I used to grow them in a previous garden, along with Honesty - Lunaria. Both to dry and arrange as dust collectors. And your Mason jar cards are delightful - great use of little snippets. You always come up with such lovely cards. BTW, I feel for you with the spillage, absolutely my sort of trick.

    Hugs

  44. Psst. If you want to get the rest of the sequins and beads up, AND save them at the same time - use something like a pop sock or fine hosiery over the tube of a vacuuum cleaner.. When you want to turn the vaccuum cleaner off, do so holding the hose end over a solid waste bin or a jar and the sequins and beads will just drop into the container ready to be saved - until the next spillage. xx

  45. So glad you are well and busy with lots of projects Darnell and impressed at your ability to find ANYTHING to watch on TV!! I love those lanterns (and have failed to grow them each time I've tried!) and love the way you coloured them after the serendipitous stamp/spritz issues ;) The flowers in the colourful mason jars are just gorgeous and the stenciling in the backgrounds are a lovely touch. I spend a good few minutes day dreaming about what a hamster would look like with custom-made daubers on his feet... and then oooooops! Perhaps tiptoe out and go and watch TV while Hammy sorts out the sequints!! Mwah! Vicky x
