... your table is ready.
Hello Stamplings!
How are you? In America we all moved our clocks ahead one hour before we went to bed last night. Apparently there is an army of tiny trolls who come into our homes in the night, collect the hours, and then keep them in a secret place until fall arrives and then they reverse the process and give us our hours back.
I think there should be exceptions or exemptions or exclusions. Like if you've reached retirement age, you get to keep your hour. The last thing I need in a day is less time!
So Justin Case you need help waking up or staying awake today, I made you this:
Can I just say up front that the gold paper I used for the wooden die-cut frame (from Hero Arts) does not look holographic until it gets in the sunlight. It's rather magical, but I'm entering a gold and green color challenge with it and, honest, I didn't use rainbow paper! And the top bud is celery green, not yeller.
While we've been having endless rain, I've been die-cutting endless little croci bits from my NBUS BontaniCuts Crocus from The Greetery and gluing the bits into little flowers. These two were made in just green shades for the above-said challenge because I have my artistic license. You'll be seeing the others dressed in color on a future blogcast. The schparkly gold background panel, gold heat-embossed sediment, and die-cut frame were all in my Stasherooni.
Challenges
- Color Hues: Green and Gold.
- Cut It Up: This Makes Me Happy: Springtime!
- HLS Anything Goes With Dies.
Twofer
Hammy and I pulled out all the stops for this one. The background snow was created using transparent gloss paste through the Tiny Dots stencil from Memory Box. Then (after I placed a snowy hill mask in place) Hammy used his new blending shoes to create the blue sky.
On watercolor paper I stamped and clear heat-embossed the NBUS scarf-wrapped cat from Stampers Anonymous "Snarky Christmas." I painted him with my Ziggies and fussy-cut him. I was really tempted to just cut off his teeny-weeny arms and legs, but after fortification with a bit of potato liquor, I forged ahead.
I then popped him up on foam lifters and added googly eyes and the sediment. It still seemed to need something to keep the focus on the cat (duly winked by Hammy), so I added the frame. I also gave his feet a shadow in the snow, but the sunlight washed them out.
Here is a closeup of the glazed snow and winked cat:
Challenges
- Christmas Kickstart: All wrapped up for Christmas in scarves.
- Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers: I is for Ink.
- Stencil Fun: A/G with option of CAS.

You haven't had a Nellie fix in a while:
Like today's Christmas cat, Nellie likes to be swaddled, but sometimes her blankie gets askew and it's too dang cute. Don't ask me how many photos we have like this. You just have to take one look at her face to know it's been too many as far as she's concerned.
~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!
Many of you have asked how we are faring with the storms and flooding that have hit California. We are fine, but it's really bad in some areas, with more to come.🙏
If I'm not back before the end of the week, have a Happy St. Patrick's Day!
*Life is too short!
Hi Darnell, firstly Nellies sure is the cutest photogenic little lady.. many photos like we have of the cats. Two super fabulous cards too...simplicity with the lovely die cut frame (that changes colour!!) and the cozy kitty is just you... I can hear you talking to Hammy about her as you colour, cut and create a fantastic card... Must say too I just love to read your scripts - you have an amazing way with words.. Have a wonderful day, hugs Robyn. ps Watson is doing amazingly well.. nearly his old self but with 3 legs
ReplyDeleteTwo super cards Darnell, but my favourite has to be the second one…… SO cute! Talking of cute, Nellie looks super cute in her blankie.
ReplyDeleteClocks don’t go forward until the end of the month in the UK, so we haven’t lost an hour yet. Just had a thought…. If I popped over the the US for a few days at the end of the month, I wouldn’t lose an hour at all this spring. 🤣
Wow Darnell - you must have a magic touch with that gold paper! I don't get a rainbow on mine, darn it! Pretty, delicate flowers too! But that scarfed kitty - what a stitch; really makes me smile!!
ReplyDeleteJust love your very shiny wood embossed gold frame with those sweet crocuses and the soft gold glitter paper for the background Darnell, and then that oh so cute swaddled cat out in the snow and such a wonderful ink blended sky, and I adore that wonderful fun sentiment. Nellie is so cute all wrapped up in that pretty blanket..no wonder you can't resist taking lots of photos. x
ReplyDeleteI think your golden frame (that looks very holographic) is beautious. The cat in your second card appears to be visiting Minnesota as we have received about 80 inches of snow (so far) this winter. It is piled so high that it is hard to see around corners when driving, unless you pull into the intersection. Risky stuff! Your cards, and descriptions of said cards, gave me a smile today. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove that Hello card... I think you made the best use of your time in the rain, crafting makes everything better.
ReplyDeleteNellie is just soooo cute!
Terrific onefer -- a really brilliant and beautiful card! Amazing twofer -- love the cuteness, and sparkly snow bits.
ReplyDeleteAnd Nellie? Well she's just adorable, especially once you get passed her annoyed look
Too cute Darnell and the cards aren't bad either ;) - your snarky cat in particular!!! So schparkly! You are so lucky to have such a talented imaginary hamster - love Hammy's wearin' o' the green BTW! That first card has a fair amount of schparkle too - love that wooden frame (it's on my "I want/need that" list now)! A friend posted a photo on FB that you might appreciate recently, I'll add it to the next post I share with NBUS so you can have a giggle over it too! Hugs, Kate
ReplyDeleteHere in Italy (and Europe) we will move our clocks at the end of the month. I hate all those one more/one less.. Time is an illusion create by humans! :D
ReplyDeleteAwesome card with that holographic frame and the crocus looks so pretty!
Love so much also the second card, that cat with googling eyes and the big scarf with that fun sentiment is just hilarious!
Adorable Nellie, how sweet!!!
Aww, Nellie is so cute, Max wouldn't tolerate swaddling unless he was the perp! His favourite trick is to jump up at the fleece blanket over the snug sofa to drag it down onto a cushion then makes his own nest!
ReplyDeleteMirror card is definitely a nightmare to photo but the frame looks fab with the die cut crocus,(or is that croci?) none the less. Thanks for bringing a little bit of spring to Color Hues. :)
Ooh Nellie is super cute and l like her blanket lots of photos l can imagine she’s just super cute, your cards are adorable and it does look magical with the frame round the first card, your cat images are always a delight to see lovey finished to both cards that’s a great story to tell my grandchildren with the trolls taking the hr and bringing it back at fall we do ours at the end of this month too enjoy your day x
ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous cards as ever and it has to be a very close contest for 'who is the cutest' between the wrapped cat and gorgeous Nellie 🤣🤣. Take care and look forward to getting that hour back later in the year.
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful cards Darnell, I love the gorgeous gold backing on the first card and the wonderful snarky cat on the second.
ReplyDeleteSue xx
Your first card is simply gorgeous. Love that holographic style paper. The sparkly background adds to the beauty. The second card is a lot of fun and got a giggle. I'm glad you are able to wade to the playhouse to have fun creating. Although, seriously I sure hope CA gets a break from all this nasty weather. Have a good start to your week. Crafty hugs!
ReplyDeleteJust when I was marveling over the wonderful colors and sparkle of the first card, I scrolled down and just cracked up over card #2! OMG, that is the cutest image and card idea with a fun sentiment! Almost as cute as Nellie snuggly under her blanket! Happy wearing o' the green later this week!
ReplyDeleteLoving that beautiful gold reflective frame. And Oh My, that bundled up cat--so cute and fun. Great sentiment for that image. Nellie is so cute peeking out of her blankie.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are awesome (no surprise there) but your second card brought an instant chuckle! Great job on the snow and who doesn't love googlie eyes lol. Thanks so much for joining in the fun at our STENCIL FUN challenge! Good Luck and we hope you’ll come back often.
Triple B ... OUR NEW CHALLENGE BLOG which is all about butterflies, birds & blooms.
I love your spharkly frame Darnell...it sets off those green croci just perfectly!! Such a fun die set and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having a good time playing with it!! And it worked perfectly for our color challenge at Color Hues, so it's a WIN WIN!! I love your snarky little kitty too and especially the sentiment...too funny! And you and Hammy did a great job on that background! Wonderful cards my friend and thanks so much for playing along with us at The Color Hues Challenge!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteSuch really awesome cards, Darnell - thanks for sharing them. I like the shimmer and shine and the pretty croci. :-) Some day we'll have some growing here - if the snow ever goes away! Great cutting, and everything else, on the second card. You and Hammy did well. Thanks, also, for sharing the picture of Nellie - so sweet. Glad you are safe from your weather.
ReplyDeleteYep, the hour was stolen at my house too. Rain keeps falling as well here, but it could be snow so I'm not complaining. Wow, this card is gorgeous Auntie! I love the magical gold paper frame, the glittery cardstock and of course your beautiful Crocus. Your twofer just makes me smile! I love the cat image but I love the sentiment even more. It is perfect! Love how Hammy inked the sky and love the dimensional snow. So cute, so funny and love how it makes me smile from ear to ear. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteForgot about Nellie, what a cute photo! What a cutie little sweet girl! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful glow from that frame, Dolly! I'm loving that crocus die and your green crocus (or is croci?). Love the crazy cat all wrapped up! He looks quite impish! Nellie is her usual adorable self. I'm glad you aren't part of the awful weather related disasters in CA. Stay safe and dry, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThe first card is absolutely gorgeous, the second is so cute and
ReplyDeleteNellie is just so ultra cute and adorable!
Fantastic cards Darnell. LOVE that second one and those eyes! Precious - and a great background with the paste snow.
ReplyDeleteLynn
Oooh, lots of sparkle today! The card base on #1 gets a big WOW, and the unexpected holographicness of the frame is a bonus. Your second card is too funny and cute! What a great way to make the snowflakes and add some dimension in the process. The cat is a hoot! I honestly thought for a minute that his scarf was real somehow. The sparkle really shows in the close up. Thanks for finishing up with your MOST adorable Nellie! Yep, we have lots of those blankie photos, too. It's raining like crazy today here. I'll be in my stamp room looking out. The news from CA is heartrending.
ReplyDeleteBet that first card is spectacular in real life, all that sparkle, love it. Your second card makes me shiver just looking at it. I have an empty pot of that transparent gloss texture paste on my desk as a reminder to replace it as it is my favourite paste. For some reason though, it seems to be hard to find, over here anyway. Amazon have it but they want £12 for 1 pot! Love those googly eyes. California seems to be getting a lot of unusual weather these days. Hope things settle down to a normal spring soon. Thanks for sharing the pic of Nellie too. Our clocks change in 2 weeks, can't wait xx
ReplyDeleteThat frame looks awesome in the sunlight. I love the snow stencil...both cards are lovely and will be well received...Nellie has a look for sure...so cute.
ReplyDeleteI have a NBUS crocus set too, Darnell, but now yours isn't. That gold frame is magical in its tranformation and really lights up the card. I'm loving the scarf-bundled cat. I knew right away what challenge he was for. Yay for not amputating his limbs. That just reminded me of an old series of jokes. You know the ones. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Darnell, I certainly hope the rain stops soon! What a year you all are having out there. As for your fabulous cards....The first card is absolutely beautiful and I love the gold frame, as for the second...it is so cute, and I love the sentiment. Oh, and Nellie steals the show. Thanks for joining us at Color Hues and please take care.
ReplyDeleteWow, that turned out to be one fancy frame! Wonderful spring card, Darnell. That snarky cat with his google-y eyes and FUN sentiment just makes me smile! So happy to hear all is well in your little corner of California. Prayers for all those dealing with the insane weather there.
ReplyDeleteLoving these gorgeous cards Darnell - I do hope that you hare not as badly affected by the rain as parts of NZ were!! The croci are stunning, the way you have used them, and what a fabulous frame!!
ReplyDeleteAs for Hammy and his blending shoes, is there anything that wee fellow cannot do!! He is very talented :) That is such a fun card :)
Blessings
Maxine
Both cards are adorable, Darnell xoxo
ReplyDeleteDarnell if you can find a way to get that hour back could you please share you strategy? I could really use the help as I am still trying to catch my breath or sleep--one of them! I love your fabulous gold background and the gold frame looks amazing. Shiny and sparkly are the hardest to photograph--you did good! The second card made me smile and I would love a cozy scarf like that to keep me warm in the winter. Hope you are doing well and thank you so much for sharing with us at the Color Hues!
ReplyDeleteOh that cutie pie, Nellie! The first card is just gorgeous & how amazing that the gold cardstock looks holographic in the sun! Cute 2nd card with the fun sentiment! Glad you don't have issues with the flooding & hope it stays that way. My sister had a temporary pond on her patio, but luckily drained away without harming the house. Brings back memories of the atmospheric river that came straight at us some years ago--so scary!
ReplyDeleteYour first card is gorgeous! love the paper and your second card is adorable
ReplyDeleteHave a great day
Marilyn❤️
That frame die cut really does look magical in the photo. And love your commentary on the trolls keeping the hour! Made me chuckle. Thanks for joining us at Happy little stampers. Happy crafting!
ReplyDeleteCatherine x DT
Nellie looks adorable inside her blanket but frustrated! You outdid yourself on these two cards. The first one is beautiful. It just shines and stems look great inside the frame. The snow sky is awesome and Hammy did a wonderful job of adding color to the sky.
ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous cards!! How amazing that the gold frame picks up all those rainbow colors in the photo; it is really beautiful and frames those crocuses perfectly! And your kitty is a little crazy looking, but also cute at the same time. I do love the snowy background. Thanks for playing with Cut It Up Challenge.
ReplyDeleteFab projects!!!
ReplyDeleteI always adore your creations!
I can also identify with the snuggle dog - ours likes to tap you on the shoulder until you lift up the duvet so he can sleep UNDER the covers!
I also have a skinny pig (bald guinea pig) who loves to crawl up the sleeve of my hoodie and sleep in there...sheeeeesh the things we do for our pets!!
Thanks for breaking out your inks to play with Edna and the sisterhood of snarky stampers!!
First Sis - I'm so glad to hear you are not in any of the rainy, snowy, flooding, landslide, fire places of California - you must have chosen the perfect area in that state to live!!?? It's quite horrifying actually.... Two lovely cards here today - that holographic frame is something in the sun framing the simple die cut stems - And I love your Christmas Cat! I think I have that set and have yet to get it out - so fun with the stenciled glitter on him! I don't know how you ever get any work done with that cute little Nellie walking around your house!! Happy St. Pats! Julia xx
ReplyDeleteLove the christmas sentiment and the pic of Nellie. Thanks for the Nellie fix.
ReplyDeleteLove the snarky cat against the beautiful blue snowy background - sure would love to see Hammy and his blending shoes in action. What a perfect sentiment!
ReplyDeleteLove your explanation of where our hours go - at least they give them back to us. But I don't appreciate it nearly enough as I've been out of sorts ever since they took my hour away. So the flip side of that is that I should be in an extremely good humour and full of sorts when they bring my hour back in the fall. Meanwhile I'll just say that I love your snarky cat against the lovely snowy background. Hammy did a great job with his new shoes - perhaps he'll lend them to Tessa one day.
ReplyDeleteTwso great cards Darnell..love the crocus popping its head around the fabulous frame and your 2nd card really made me smile..the look on the owl's face is brilliant and those big blue eyes are to die for...
ReplyDeleteAnne
Hello lovely lady, I hope you are safe and well. Love your card - the googly eyes are such a winner for me. Thanks for playing at Christmas Kickstart AND The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers, Jo x
ReplyDeletethat cat made me howl :)
ReplyDeleteI love the simplicity and your frame is fabulous. The only good thing about daylight savings is that it is a precursor to spring. Thank you for joining our Cut it Up This Makes Me Happy challenge.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Larelyn (CIU owner)
I despise time changes. And I mean DESPISE. What I love though is your wonderfully inky card you made for our Snarky Sisterhood Challenge! Congrats on your win and we hope you join us as our guest!
ReplyDeleteAnother two gorgeous cards Darnell. Love that holographic frame. xx
