Hello Stamplings!
Happy August! I'm just gonna leave it at that. Let's just enjoy every moment!
And make cards!
My Onefer today is a CASE (copy and share everything) of a card I've been meaning to make since, geez, quite a while ago.
The original was made by my friend Trina and you can find it here on her blog, Phamtastic Design. (By clicking over, you will become acquainted with Trina, if you are not already familiar with this talented card artist!) It took me a while to figure out how to do her card justice and still put my own spin on it.
The flower is NBUS from the Hero Arts die set called, "D1856 Bouquet." The die-cut sediment is from WPlus9 and the stitchery dies are from MFT. Hammy did a great job of winking, so he wanted a closeup:
Challenges:
- Simply Clean and Simple: Anything goes.
- Snippets Playground: Anything snippets goes. I used snippets of white and gold for my die cuts.
- NBUS: A/G, never-before-used-schtuff.
I was planning to make and post my usual Twofer Christmas card, especially now that we are in August. (Oh, sorry, I wasn't going to remind you of that.) But then I saw the new challenge at Less is More is "One Layer" with an autumn theme, so I distracted myself and made this quickie:
This stamp set is from PTI's "Autumn Hills." I heat-embossed it in gold on a burnt orange card base. Using colored card for the base gave this QACAS design all the oomph it needed. "Wait. What?" asked the pipsqueak, "How about if you give that house a coat of white paint to add a little more oomph to your oomph?"
Well, slap my pancake, what a great idea! So that's what I did, using my white Gelly Roll pen and what a difference it made!
Challenges
- Krafty Chicks: Stamp Act.
- Less is More: OLC.
- Stamping Sensations: A/G.
- We Love Stamping: Masculine.

Had to share:
That's me on the left with my dear friend, Susan. We have been friends for over 45 years. We recently got together for dinner with our Misters and we couldn't believe how alike we had dressed ... down to the same exact pair and color of Tom's shoes! Longtime girlfriend/ships can make you twinsies!
While fashions have changed for women of our age,
~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!
Such an elegant card in the Autumnal tones Darnell, lovely to see you at Stamping Sensations (your card would also fit very nicely at We Love Stamping masculine theme).
Two lovely makes again, Darnell. I've swung by from LIM to admire your fabulous One Layer card, love your spot colouring too
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday
Super cards as ever, and a great photo of you and your friend of many years. The last photo was certainly a reminder of just how much fashions have changed for women over a 'certain age' and I bet those two weren't as old as they appeared in black and white 🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteTwo super CAS cards Darnell, Hammy did a great job with the twinkling on the bud!
ReplyDeleteI agree about long time friendships. My best from Grammar school lives quite some distance from us now but when we do manage to get together it's spooky how similar our lives have been in the interim!:)
Two wonderful card, Darnell. I love the design on the first one, a great version of Trina's card. Your second card is so striking in the colours you've used and the added white is a perfect finishing touch. xx
ReplyDeleteLove your take on that fabulous rose card. It's gorgeous. Your gold embossing is perfection and that coat of white is ingenious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect pair of cards today! I love the simple elegance of the CAS card and that pop of white on the house is perfect for the 2nd card! Love the pic of you and your bestie - so cute how you both dressed alike :) Enjoy your week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWhat a super card and love the rose Darnell and shown off beautifully with the double frame and sweet little sequins and sentiment..a wonderful CASEing of Tina's pretty and elegant card. The bright orange twofer Autumn card looks fabulous with the gold embossed image with just a touch white on the sweet little house..perfect. How lovely to meet up with your friend for dinner and you both look very cool and summery in your tops and cut offs, and two sets of matching feet! I love the 'friends' of yesteryear too...how sweet. x
ReplyDeleteAs usual BOTH cards are fabulous, love the pretty pink rose and the gold embossed of the autumn card, autumn will be here before you know it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining our challenge at Simply Clean & Simple.
Beautiful cards and a beautiful friendship. How could this week start any better? Thanks ever so much for sharing Darnell!
ReplyDeleteHello Dolly!
ReplyDeleteLovely CASE and an even lovelier orange card. Love love love it.
(I now have to find that stamp over here - you are such a nuisance as now my wish list has reached halfway down the second loo roll.)
Nice happy smiley pic of you and Susan -
Remember - the most valuable antiques are old friends!
xx
Two great CAs cards! Love the twinkle on the first and the serene feel of the 2nd! Super to have a friend for such long time! Enjoy your friendship for many years to come! Hugs, Gerrina
ReplyDeleteI remember Trina's card and your have CASEd it beautifully, Dolly! Love the added sparkle and the photo that shows it! The little white house on all that autumn orange is so pretty and perfect for a OLC! I find them very difficult. LOL, I'm so glad the styles have changed but not the friendships!
ReplyDeleteYour case is simply stunning. So simple and so impactful. The shine is beautiful. The autumn card is great too. The house does stand out painted white and that is a cool stamp. I hope your pancake is ok. I love that you posted pictures of you and Susan when you first met, then 45 years later!
ReplyDeleteBOTH are great Darnell, but I'm in love with the second card and that autumn feel to it. Maybe it's because it's still so hot and we NEED autumn and winter now. Beautiful cards!
ReplyDeleteLynn
Two fabulous cards ....I love the pretty rose with the embossing and the sparkle and I think that white pop on the second card really 'makes'it! It's lovely. Already becoming a bit autumnal here of late :( Nice pic of you twinnies! xx
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards Darnell...you and your friend really do look similar, with long term friends you are never stuck for conversation...
ReplyDeleteAnne
Fabulous cards, like that rose and all the sparkle and the white CAS background is perfect for it, like the embossed card, very elegant. How funny that you and your friend dressed alike, looks like you had a good time!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you with your friend! I once team-taught a class with one of my best friends, and we regularly wore very similar outfits and exactly the same shoes! Love both of your cards. The first one is very elegant, but I'm pinning the second one to remind me to pull out that old PTI stamp. I've never used it with gold embossing, but I just love that CAS design. The gold embossing with the white gel pen really elevates that card!
ReplyDeleteTwo very beautiful cards Darnell, I love the simplicity of the designs, and the rose is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo of you and your friend, and you do look alike, take care hugs Kate x
Love all the cards, Darnell! Your card and Trina's are different
ReplyDeleteenough! The red one is gorgeous! What a coincidence with the shoes
you and your friend are wearing! Boy am I glad fashions have changed!
Fabulous cards, Darnell. I especially love the red card. The gold embossing really catches the eye. How fun to meet up with friends...and the shoe thing is too funny.
ReplyDeleteYou've done Trina proud with your CASE of her card, Darnell. High five to Hammy on the winking! This autumn card is CAS perfection! Love the vibrant orange with the fancy gold. You two gals look pretty snazzy, right down to your matching shoes!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards in your post today. The rose card is so elegant in its simplicity. I love it! The Autumn card radiates warmth with that intense orange hue. Love the white house in the golden scene, too. And BTW, you look way too young to have been someone's friend for 45 years.
ReplyDeleteYou and Susan look like twins……how lovely….love the burnt orange card with the oomph oomph white house, and the rose one is very serene, Hammy did good on the sparkle. Happy August xxx
ReplyDeleteTwo stunning cards Darnell, and with Hammy's contributions they are extra amazing... love the schparkle on the rose - fabulous work there Hammy!
ReplyDeleteThat is one amazing stamp that you used so stunningly on the second one, and the white on the hose is perfect..
Thank you for sharing your orange one with us at We Love Stamping, and using the theme for the month
Blessings
Love your take on Trina's card. Especially the winking!
ReplyDeleteIsn't if lovely to have long time friends. You obviously share the same taste. I've had a friend for a very long time too - since we were 4!
Love the white house too!
Two stunning cards Darnell. I love the simplicity of them both.
ReplyDeleteSue xx
What a beautiful rose card with a lovely gold sentiment you've submitted as homework to the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND. Thanks for coming to play. I'll see you up in the treehouse for a cocktail later!
ReplyDeleteYour OLC autumnal card is just perfect, especially with the white coat of paint!
Nice picture of you and your good friend too!
Enjoy YOUR day! xxx
Super cards and love the rich feel of the Autumn card. Fun photo and how true-I met my friend of 50 years last week and we were both in jeans, trainers, no makeup……and chatted like we were teenagers again! Hugs x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful CASE of Trina's card, Darnell. And that bright orange is indeed an autumnal card color. Congratulate Hammy for his bright idea to color the house. It really makes it stand out on an outstanding card.
ReplyDeleteSome of my family were recently talking about how women dressed in the olden days. My grandmother never wore slacks, let alone jeans. I'm sure glad that has changed.
Two beautiful CAS cards Darnell, the first is a lovely take on the original inspiration. The second card with the rich burnt orange base, beautifully embossed in gold looks fabulous, I love autumnal colours, just not ready to think about autumn yet as we haven't really had a summer!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for joining in at Stamping Sensations.
Your Autumnal one looks gorgeous with the gold embossing and the white house! A perfect card for a male, thanks so much for joining us at We Love Stamping with this make!
Wonderful CAS card with the rose bud and the great layering. But my favourite is the autumn one - such a brilliant idea to add white to the house - it is CAS perfection!
ReplyDeleteBoth are stunning cards Darnell, your first card is CAS perfection, but so is your second, I love the layers done in the same colour and the little house in white, just fabulous. As for your friend, it did make me laugh, how wonderful to have a friendship like you do.
ReplyDeleteFaith x
Two fabulous cards as usual Darnell. I just may have to CASE your Autumn one, or both, at some point. Thanks for the love and for the giggle regarding women's fashions. Thank goodness we're a little more "civilized" with fashion. BTW - how's mother nature treating your migraines?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty embossing!! and I love the white chapel! Gorgeous one layer card! Thanks for sharing with us at LIM!
ReplyDeleteAugust is already flying by at neck breaking speeds. Love your CASE card Auntie, it is just stunning and love the sparkle that Hammy did! Your autumn card is just gorgeous too, love how the white house pops. Love that stamp, it has such a cozy feel to it or maybe it is the orange paper...I don't know, I just know I love it! I also love the photo of you and your friend! How fun that you were twinning that evening! My long time (53 years thus far) friend and I used to "twin" with our clothing when we where in high school together. Love that you both match with your clothing, right down to your Toms! Such a great photo of you both! Yes, fashion changes all the time, but thankfully friendships have don't! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteTwo beauteous beauties! That goes for you and your girlfriend, too. I have one of those sister-friends about the same time span. They say you start to look like your dog or your spouse... well, that happens just the same with girlfriends. Your rose card is so clean and pretty, and I must say Hammy did an amazing job with the winking. Did he photograph it, too? 'Cause he's very good! Your autumn card is one of my favorites of yours in a long time! Wow! Just for starters I love the color, but the stamp in gold with the house in white -- stunning perfection!
ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous makes Darnell love the colour and image on your autumn card and the simplicity of the first card .....say no more before we know it we will be putting Christmas 🎄 up time is going so very fast xx
Beautiful CASE of Trina's card, and the WoS does amazing things to a pretty bud! Your second fall card is quite fantastic too, especially your brilliant idea of adding white pen -- wow! A fun CAS card made even more perfect -- kinda like that friendship you got going!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pair of cards, Darnell and I particularly like the rich colours on the autumn card. I have that stamp somewhere in my stash and you have encouraged me to search it out. I love how you have identified the similar dress you have with your friend. I find that fashions hold little sway for me these days and comfort is far more important lol!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are keeping well.
Hugs
