March 4: I is for Ink/Color Mediums

Hello Stamplings!

And welcome, March! A month of hope and new beginnings and religious holidays and spring breaks and sometimes snowstorms! It's a lot for one little month and we all can admit, a lot more dramatic than Ms. February!

Here at the Playhouse, a new month means a turnover of I.D.E.A.S.* and for this first Monday of the month, I am featuring inks/color mediums, specifically Lindy's Magical color powder. Lindy's is like Brushos, only schparkly!

Onefer
This is not the first thing I did with my Lindy's, but it's my favorite, so I'm putting it first. While I had the powders out, I did some smooching because I haven't done that in ages and I love how the little vases turned out.

They looked great on a white card, but Hammy suggested I try black and then the whole crew swooned. After smooching and swooning, the only thing left to do was scoring, so we did a little of that to add a little Jenna Saykwa. I may add a sediment, but for now, I'm loving the simplicity.

Twin Twofer

I wanted to try something new this month and ages ago I heard that it was possible to paint images with powders using water and a paintbrush. I tried it and I have to say, it worked a treat!
I had a couple of stamped bathing babes in my stash from the last time I used the image, so I pulled them out to paint.
Why am I showing both of them? I was curious, given my personality, about how the image painted with the Lindy's powders would compare to the same image painted with my Ziggies. I did simple painting on both, no shading.

Can you tell the difference? Because you can't see the schparkly from the Lindy's Magicals, they look very similar. Lindy's is on the left, Ziggies on the right. Or is it the other way round? Just kidding!

After wards, I put them through an embossing folder and for once, I'm sorry I did that ... at least with this particular e/f. Is it just me, or does it remind you of the designs that companies put on paper towels or the like. ('The like' being a euphemism for toilet paper.)

Never mind the e/f; this was a fun exercise and I tried something new! I have a few stamps and dies with a stained-glass look and I think they would be fun to paint with the Lindy's Magicals.

Christening

Hammy is very busy having a good time getting acquainted with the new little guy, who now has a name!

Thank you to everyone who suggested a name for him! Some of you thought it would be fun if the new buddy was a girl, so Hammy could have a girlfriend, but he went there, did that years ago while on vacation! As far as pets, hamsters don't get along like that. They are very solitary and if you do want to own two of them, it works best if they are the same gender.

So I narrowed the names down to masculine names and added a few names that Hammy and I came up with. We ended up with names of English origin with an "an" in them, as a tribute to Annie. After about an hour staring at the same seven names, the little guy pipes up and says, "Why don't you ask my Mum?" Well, duh!

So I asked Annie and all of us were delighted when she picked
STANLEYIt fits him!

*New Month of I.D.E.A.S.

Here is your calendar for March if you'd like to play along! Please let me know in your comment if you do play in any week, so I can pin your design to the Pinterest board for inspiration!

Reminder: you do not need to use your NBUS to play with the I.D.E.A.S.schedule.

~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse
and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!
Mwah!
*Life is too short!
Stanley is the perfect name for him Darnell, hope he's behaving in your newly refurbished playhouse!
Never tried painting with ink powders but why not? The watercolouring worked well by the look of your card. :)
These powders appear to have been well named because I've been reading here and there about how magical they are - such a shame we can't get the shine to show up in the blog photos. Might just mean that we will NEED to buy some of them ourselves to see the effect 🤣🤣
I haven't played with my inks in so long, they're most likely all dried up by now, but I love the look of the colorful vases on black. The girls at the beach both look fun done on embossing and how cute that Hammy and Stanley have each other LOL Happy Monday and thanks for the great ideas!
What a happy post! Love your use of the schparkly schtuff. Looks great smooshed and painted. I will have to remember that whenever I get back into my crafty space. Welcome to the funhouse Stanley. It's a blast! Darnell I hope you have a wonderful day. :)
Ooooh! Love the drama of the sparkly vases on the black background. That is a cute little girl on the beach but I'm with you--maybe not that e/f. Your March sounds a bit like Indiana's March. Was it in like a Lion for you?
Your smooched vases are gorgeous even though the camera wants to hide the schparkle! So dramatic on the black background! I can't see any differences in the bathing beauties. Your coloring is spot on for both! Stanley is a perfect name for the little guy. I'm sure Hammy is enjoying his company. Hopefully they won't get into trouble together.
Oooo - love the trio of smooshed vases atop the deep black, Darnell - soooo dramatic!! And your pair of beach babes look amazing with either medium & embossed too! Awww Stanley - cute name for such a sweetie!!
I think it's possible that I have some powders in that are NBUS. You've inspired me to take a look around. I love the beautiful smooshed vases on black. That contrast is fabulous. And I see no difference on my screen between the powders and the Zig markers. Both look great. Have a fun week!
The vases just pop against the black and are lovely. Such a cute beach baby image and the coloring is great with both mediums. This reminds me to use my Lindy's and I like the smooshing look. Stanley is a great name and he is such a fun buddy for Hammy.
Cute beach card I like the added texture. But Stanley has won my heart. 🥰
I'm speechless with your first card, Darnell! WOW!!! I would love so much having a painting as this hanging on a wall!!! AWESOME card!!! And the scoring is the ice on the cake! Very very very well done with your Lindy's Magical powders and the smooching!
Fun card with the baby at beach and that embossing on the whole surface. I can't see any difference, but I know that I have to change my glasses...
Stanley is just perfect for the new hamster!
Hugs
Your 1st card is so dramatic with the black background Darnell, and shows off our challenge colors perfectly! And I can totally imagine the spharkle!! I can't tell the difference in the two bathing beauties, but I bet you sure can in real life...those magicals really do shine like crazy! And Stanley is the perfect name for Hammy's new friend...LOVE it! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Color Hues my friend...we love seeing you in the gallery!! Hugs. Linda (DT) Oops...I mean Marcia (DT) (Sometimes I forget my name! Bahahahaha!!!!)
The colors of the vases are beautiful and they pop nicely from the black background.
As for the colored images, I don't see a huge difference, but the colors on the card to the left might look a bit brighter, at least on my computer screen? Stanley is a great choice of name:)
Great cards Darnell. Welcome to Stanley!
All the cards are beautiful, Darnell. Parchment and water don't get on well at all, but on rare occasions I don't use parchment, I love painting with mica powder on card xoxo
Terrific cards! Can't tell the difference between the bathing beauties
though! Hi Stanley! You are a cutie pie!
I nearly swooned over your vase card Darnell - SO gorgeous! Very glad that you have Stan's name sorted and I hope (said in severe accents) that the boys will get along nicely and that there will be no rough play. The sunbathing twins look exactly the same on my screen but I love the idea that one of her is schparkly. Excuse me, I'm just off to see if there's enough The Like in the downstairs loo... The Like made me cackle like a hen! Vicky x
Great cards, Darnell. I especially love your first card, so striking. I sound like Stanley is settling in well with Hammy. I suspect Hammy might lead him astray and the two will get up to mischief in the Playhouse.
Hi Darnell! I finally made my way here to see your brilliant I.D.E.A.S! It truly is BRILLIANT! Would love to play along, but not sure if time/health will allow it. Your smooched vases are adorable and I can only imagine how schparkly it is IRL. TFS your results with painting the powders… they do look the same, minus the schparkke, of course.
Have a wonderful week! Hugs, Trina 💙
I love those vases and they are especially showy on black, Darnell. I can only imagine the shine. Which I have to do with the bathing beauties too. On the screen they look nearly identical. Great job of coloring them.
Hello Stanley. Every time I hear that name I remember the fun I had with Flat Stanley. If you're not familiar it's a children's book and I had the privilege of taking my granddaughter's Stanley on many Gulf Shores excursions. Here's to fun excursions in the playhouse with those two rascals.
Those vases are gorgeous! I need to have a Brusho play and cut a few vases for myself. I'll have to add a little sparkle from other sources, though.
Glad you decided on a name for the new little hamster. Looking forward to hearing about Stanley's adventures.
Your smooched vases look terrific on the dramatic dark background, very chic! The coloring experimenting paid off on both cards, they're adorable. He looks like a Stanley! I'm sure he and Hammy will be the best of pals!
LOVE your first card ... so dramatic and artsy, my friend. LOVE the black with scoring. Perfect CAS design that lets those beautiful vases be the star of the show. Great colouring with your magicals. I couldn't tell the difference from you zig-coloured image.
It's great to meet Stanley! Great name ... totally is "him"! :) Hopefully Hammy and Stanley will be best buds and there won't be any of the jealously thing. :) You've already been buy my blog, so you know I played along with IDEAS today. Having fun with it! xx
Has it been a month already? Good grief, time flies. I'm swooning with the rest of your crew over those simple vases on black. I love the look! I need lessons with my Lindy's. I'm too heavy handed with them and the first thing I made is still sitting in the bag o' backgrounds. It appears you know exactly what you're doing! Adventurous of you to try the watercoloring. I've heard you can do that, but haven't tried it. I cannot tell the different between your Zigs and the Lindy's, but I'll bet the shimmer shows IRL. It takes nerves of steel to emboss an image panel after coloring but, hey, you went there. I had to laugh about the paper towels. I can see it. Cute little bathing beauty. Speaking of cute, I like that Hammy's new friend is a boy, and his name is perfect!
Stanley is a great name for Hammy's new friend! He is so cute! Love your cards. Because of the effect of the embossing folder, My first thought when I saw the card with the little girl, was not the pattern on paper towel, etc, but that she's sitting under a slatted patio roof and it's reflecting the slats on her (she'll get a striped tan if that's the case). Love the first card with those beautifully coloured little vases - the smooshing turned out perfectly. The colours are so striking on the black card base.
Love your sweet girls, very nice colors from the Lindy's! And while I was team "girl", I can appreciate that Hammy has a best bud!
Darnell it is so nice to see that you joined us at the Color Hues! You Lindy's powders were a perfect choice for the colours this challenge and I really like those vases. The second two cards and just the sweetest and isn't it great that we can paint with powders. You feel like a scientist when you are mixing up the wells of paint--lol! You have a cute little family of hamsters at the Playhouse! Thank you so much for sharing with us at the Color Hues!
Hi Darnell, I just love the way that you make challenges for yourself and keep your craft - and posts, so interesting! Your cards are beautiful, I love the stunning impact of sparkle and color on the vases. You've inspired me to get my Brushos out to play. We are so glad that you chose to play with us at Color Hues!
How lovely that Hammy now has a new friend called Stanley, the name suits him really well. I love both your cards Darnell, and the drama of the black card with the Lindy's, beautifully smooshed on your wonderful vases, and the added lines ground them perfectly. I think the comparison of the two different mediums on the second card lets us see that the Magicals work very well, and that apart from the sparkle which hardly ever shows up in photos, the colours of the Magicals and the Ziggies are very similar, and so pretty for your beach babes. I think the EF is pretty and it reminds me a bit of an Artexed ceiling. I have a card which I have just put up which is for Week 1 of the I.D.E.A.S. schedule. x
Darnell, what an awesome card you created with the black background and your lovely lindy vases. So, CAS....Hammy and Stanley are just too cute together.
The first card has such great contrast that is simply stunning. I love the three embossed lines that support your beautiful vases. Coloring them with magic powders gave such spectacular effects.
The following cards are beautiful and embossing them in EF added a lot of interest to these images. ZIGGIES and Lindy's Magicals coloring and looks great in both cases.
hugs,
Love the vases on the black - they just "pop"
Great little experiment - I don't mind the EF. I'm sure you thought of this but can you run through without ef and correct if you don't like so much??
Love the name Stanley - I look forward to seeing what fun Hammy & Stanley get up to in the playroom.
Oh what a stunner your black card is Darnell!!!! what a beauty!
Love your bathing beauty - she's cutie. I did pick which one you had used the Lindy's on...
Stanley is a very masculine name - just hope he's a good wee companion for Hammy.
I'm playing catch up here, now the arm is somewhat more recovered :)
